CBS moderators criticized them for violating VP debate rules, fact-checking Vance and muting microphones

As the Republican vice presidential nominee, Vance faced off against Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, in the debate on Tuesday night ahead of the 2024 election.

Vance argued that President Joe Biden and Harris’ open border policies have led to economic, health and education crises in cities like Springfield, Ohio, a city that Vance said has been negatively impacted by illegal immigration.

“The people I care about most in Springfield, Ohio are the American citizens whose lives have been destroyed by Kamala Harris’ open border. It’s a shame,” Vance said.

Before moving on to the next question, Brennan turned to the audience to fact-check Vance, saying, “Just to be clear to our viewers, there are a large number of Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio who have legal status have a temporary protected status.” ”

When both Brennan and O’Donnell tried to move on quickly, Vance interjected, pointing out that the debate rules should not provide for fact-checking. Vance then explained the Biden administration’s “CBP app” that provides legal status to immigrants “at the push of a button with an open border staff from Kamala Harris,” pointing out a difference between others seeking legal immigration through green card applications .

“This is the flirtation of illegal immigration, Margaret, by our own leadership and Kamala Harris opened that path,” Vance continued.

As Vance continued, Walz also attempted to comment before their microphones were muted.

“The audience can’t hear you because your microphones are turned off,” Brennan then said.

Many people took to social media to comment on Brennan’s fact-checking and microphone muting.

“The CBS anchors just muted JD Vance’s microphone as he called them out on their lies about Kamala Harris’ open borders policies,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said on X. “Disgraceful. “

Political commentator Collin Rugg noted that Vance himself fact-checked Brennan and O’Donnell.

“JD Vance is fact-checking CBS anchors after they tried to fact-check him about the Haitian migrant crisis in Springfield, Ohio,” Rugg said.

TikTok libs called the situation “unbelievable.”

Outkick founder and political commentator Clay Travis praised Vance for his handling of fact-checking.

“This is JD Vance destroying the CBS anchors,” Travis wrote on X alongside video of the exchange.

The Trump campaign also responded to the fact-checking and muting of the microphone.

“@JDVance just reviewed CBS News’ @NorahODonnell and @margbrennan’s ‘fact check’ on Kamala Harris’ app that allows illegal aliens to enter this country,” the Trump campaign’s X account, Trump War Room, explained. “They were so upset that they cut off his microphone.”

Others questioned the bias shown by CBS News toward Vance in the way questions were asked during the debate.

“CBS doesn’t think anyone is watching this? When they ask Vance for an answer, they load the question to hide Walz’s final answer,” said author and political commentator Andy McCarthy. “When they ask Walz to answer, they say, ‘However you want to answer, big guy.’ And Vance is still in charge.”

Washington Examiner Commentator Quin Hillyer also asked whether ” ANYONE in the mainstream media has a damn clue about how to be even remotely fair or what journalistic ethics entails?”

Both Vance and Walz were praised for their polite interactions with one another during the debate.

Tuesday night’s debate is the only scheduled debate between Vance and Walz.
