What we know about JD Vance’s wife

When Ohio Senator and Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance takes the debate stage tonight, he will do so after extensive preparation with his team, including the woman he has relied on both personally and professionally: his wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance.

Usha Vance traditionally stayed out of the spotlight, working as a litigator at a national law firm until her husband was named vice president in July.

Here’s what we know about her:

The couple met at Yale Law School, which they both attended. They met after being paired together for a writing assignment, USA Today reported. Their wedding took place a year after they graduated.

In his autobiography, “Hillbilly Elegy,” Vance called his wife his “spirit guide” and reminded him that not every perceived slight is a reason to declare war.

Where is Usha Vance from?

Usha Vance is the daughter of Indian immigrants and grew up in California.

Her mother is a provost at the University of San Diego and her father is an engineer and lecturer at San Diego State University. USA Today reported that Usha Vance’s great-aunt is the oldest professor in India and, at 96, still teaches physics at the university.
