Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 update lands on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 without some key features

• A UI 6.1.1 update for Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 is now available in Europe.

• The update lacks new AI features like “Sketch to Image” and “PDF Overlay” found on other Galaxy phones.

• The update offers other improvements, such as a new method for answering calls, improved video skimming and more security.

In early September, Samsung announced One UI 6.1.1 with several new Galaxy AI features for its current and older flagship phones and tablets. The update was initially available for the Galaxy S24 series and was eventually expanded to the foldable devices and flagship phones of 2023. Around the end of September, the update reached the Galaxy Z Fold 4, bringing features like Sketch to Image and new Portrait AI features. Now Samsung is rolling out One UI 6.1.1 for its 2021 foldable Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3.

Multiple Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 owners report on Reddit that they have received the One UI 6.1.1 version in Europe, which includes the September 2024 security patch. Unfortunately, unlike the update to the Z Fold 5 and Fold 4, the 2.2 GB XH9 firmware for the Z Fold 3 does not bring any significant new Galaxy AI functions. Therefore, you won’t get access to Sketch to Image, PDF Overlay, and Instant Slow-Mo.

But there are other improvements, like a new way to answer incoming calls, the ability to scroll through videos by double-tapping the right side of the screen, and a more powerful auto-blocker with stronger protection against malware and security threats. Samsung highlights many improvements related to Samsung Health in its release notes, including more detailed sleep analysis, the ability to create your own workout routines, and new wellness tips.

A nice multitasking improvement is the ability to move a picture-in-picture window to split-screen view by dragging it to the side of the screen where you want to play it.

While none of the changes are significant, they should help improve the overall experience of using your foldable Galaxy. If you own the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Flip 3, get the latest available update from Settings > Software Update > Download and Install. The firmware is expected to be released in other countries in the coming days.

The Android 15-based One UI 7 is expected to be the next big update for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3, bringing several new features, slick new animations and other fundamental changes. Samsung is expected to begin public beta testing of One UI 7 starting this month, with a public release expected in early November. After One UI 7, Samsung’s 2022 foldable devices will receive security updates for another year before they reach end of life.
