“Romeo + Juliet” on Broadway starring Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler is sold out

Romeo + JulietSam Gold’s new Broadway adaptation of the Shakespeare classic, starring Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler, sold out its first three preview performances last week, filling Circle in the Square beyond its seating capacity and achieving the highest average ticket price of $178.94 Week.

The Modern Dress adaptation, one of a half-dozen new productions to arrive in New York in recent weeks, was standing room only and grossed $441,258 for the three previews last week. Romeo + Juliet opens on October 24th.

The overall average ticket price for Broadway last week was $112.57.

Also got off to a strong start in the race, Sunset Blvd.Jamie Lloyd’s revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, starring Nicole Scherzinger and Tom Francis, packed the St. James in its first opening and earned box office returns $304,934. Opening night is October 20th. And McNealthe new play, starring Robert Downey Jr. in his Broadway debut, received mixed reviews but filled every seat at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater and grossed handsomely $1,151,402 for seven shows.

Other newcomers take a little longer to find their way around The hills of California, Jez Butterworth’s wonderful new move that opened last week scored a goal $390,470 for six previews and the opening performance with invited guests on September 29th, filling 88% of the seats at the Broadhurst.

Also in the preview last week, Yellow facestarring Daniel Dae Kim and premiering tonight at the Todd Haimes Theater, was popular $313,112which fills about 89% of the venue’s seating. Our cityFeaturing a large cast including Jim Parsons, Katie Holmes, Richard Thomas, Zoey Deutch, Ephraim Sykes and more, the Barrymore was at 79% capacity and revenue $632,063. Opening night is October 10th.

Left on the tenthThe Susan Stroman-directed romantic comedy, based on the memoirs of Delia Ephron and starring Julianna Margulies and Peter Gallagher, premiered at the James Earl Jones Theater and grossed box office $361,709 for four performances, with a capacity of 79%. Opening night is October 23rd.

Some other important numbers for the week ending September 29th: Covid has struck The roommate again, this time against Patti LuPone (her co-star Mia Farrow was sick a few weeks ago).
