BET Hip Hop Awards Names Travis Scott 2024 I Am Hip Hop Award Honoree

The BET hip At the Hop Awards, Travis Scott is honored annually with the I Am Hip Hop Award. The award is given to artists who have had a significant cultural and creative impact on the genre. The 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards premieres on Tuesday, October 15th.

“Travis Scott is a visionary artist who continues to push the boundaries of music, culture and live performance,” Connie Orlando, EVP, Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy, said in a statement. “With his unmatched creativity and tireless passion, he has redefined what it means to be a captivating, inspiring entertainer in the hip-hop genre. We look forward to celebrating him at the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards.”

Scott has won a total of six BET Hip Hop Awards this year, including Best Hip Hop Video for “Type Shit” featuring Future, Metro Boomin and Playboi Carti, and Best Collaboration for “At the Party” with Kid Cudi and Pharrell Williams. The rapper is also nominated alongside Dave Meyers for best live performer and video director of the year. His Playboi Carti collaboration “FE!N” is up for Song of the Year and his album Utopia is nominated for Hip-Hop Album of the Year.

Utopia was released in July 2023 and marks the Houston artist’s first full-length solo release since then Astroworld was published in 2018. “Utopia is something that people think is so far-fetched and unattainable, a perfect state of mind. “But you create it yourself,” he said at the time. “There are people who make Utopia a reality every day. They may not be the richest people with the stupidest cribs, but it’s a utopia wherever they are, and that’s the greatest thing you can have.”

Scott added: “With every album where I live in these worlds, I try to show people experiences where utopian things can exist and you can enjoy yourself and have a good time.” They can create energy that spits out magical things – new cures, new buildings, new ways for people to progress. People need to realize that Utopia is real.”
