The late Johnny Gaudreau’s Blue Jackets teammates are celebrating his daughter’s birthday

All of Johnny Gaudreau’s Columbus Blue Jackets teammates came out to support his widow, Meredith, and their 2-year-old daughter, Noa, following the NHL star’s tragic death.

On Monday, September 30, Meredith shared photos and videos on Instagram from Noa’s second birthday party, which came just a month after Johnny and his brother Matthew Gaudreau were fatally struck by an alleged drunk driver in New Jersey on August 29.

Among the pictures Meredith posted was a group photo of the Blue Jackets team all standing around a large sign that read, “Happy 2nd Birthday, Noa.”

Meredith wrote about the picture on her Instagram story: “We love you all. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

She added: “A truly special group that will forever be a family to me and our babies,” referring to Noa along with her seven-month-old son Johnny and their third child on the way – Meredith revealed she was pregnant with another baby at her husband’s funeral.

Noa’s second birthday party was farm themed and included animal decorations and printed photos of Noa with her late father.

Meredith shared several videos from the party as well as photos and clips from last year, including one of her and her daughter sitting on the couch watching Johnny on TV at an away game. “Dad’s biggest fan,” read the caption on social media.

The Blue Jackets organization has continued to find ways to honor their late star and his brother since her untimely death. The team announced on September 19 that its players will wear stickers on their helmets and patches on their uniforms throughout the NHL season to honor Johnny.

“The decal is blue with a gray border and features GAUDREAU, two doves between the numbers 13, which Johnny wore throughout his career, and 21, which Matthew wore at Boston College, in white,” the team said in a press release.

Blue Jackets players also recently said they will continue to set up Johnny’s locker before every game – home and away – this season.

Head coach Dean Evason told ESPN that the team will also keep Johnny in clips of the team as they prepare for games. “In our videos that we put together for camp, one of the coaches asked, ‘Are we taking Johnny out of all the clips?'” Evason said, according to ESPN.

“I said, ‘Absolutely not.'” Johnny will teach. If he doesn’t check, he will be with us.

Johnny and Matt Gaudreau were killed on the eve of their sister Katie Gaudreau’s wedding when a suspected drunk driver struck the brothers as they were riding their bicycles.

Johnny, an 11-year NHL star with the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, was 31. Matthew, a former NCAA hockey star at Boston College who became an associate head coach for their high school hockey team in recent years, was 29.
