Couple orders boxes from Walmart without being prepared for delivery

A couple recently found themselves at the center of a bizarre but hilarious delivery situation that has since garnered widespread attention on TikTok.

When customers ordered multiple boxes from Walmart, they were amazed when they received them packed in giant square boxes and also completely wrapped in large plastic bubble wrap. The amusing ordeal prompted the couple to share their experience on the platform at @madebyjewel, which garnered over 767,000 views and countless amused comments.

The video captured the absurdity of the over-packaging: One half of the couple, a man, walked viewers online through the oversized delivery boxes and Walmart’s liberal use of bubble wrap for the merely flat boxes. The humorous juxtaposition of the contents versus the size of the packaging resonated with TikTok users, who found the situation both ridiculous and confusing.

Newsweek reached out to Walmart for comment on the unusual delivery, which has since gone viral online. Jeffrey Essary, who works in global communications at Walmart, responded with a mix of candor and humor, confirming that the company was aware of the situation via social media.

“We found out about the situation through TikTok and immediately began figuring out what was happening on our end and on the client’s end,” Essary said Newsweek. “We focused on how to take care of the customer and give them the best experience, and we tried to solve the problem on the backend so that it doesn’t happen again in the future.”

Essary, who is based in Arkansas, emphasized Walmart’s appreciation for customers who brought the issue and material waste to Walmart’s attention, and said its customer care team is actively addressing the matter.

“Our customer care team is working to make things right with the customer,” he said. “It’s obviously not the optimal experience we would want for them, but we feel like we’ve done everything necessary on our end to make sure that doesn’t happen in the future.”

Essary also noted the positive response to the video, emphasizing how many appreciated the lighthearted nature of the incident.

“It was nice to see a positive response to a peculiar situation there and we are pleased that the customer brought it to our attention,” he added.

Customers’ humorous documentation of the delivery sparked a flood of amused comments.

“I see two boxes for the price of one plus packing materials,” said one viewer.

Another added: “Imagine the delivery man’s relief when he picked up the first box.”

A third viewer shared: “48 boxes AAAAAND bubbles? Win!”
