Spirit Halloween claps back Saturday Night Live because he made fun of the costume shop during a recent skit.

After the late-night comedy series included a segment highlighting the Halloween retail store during the Season 50 premiere on Saturday, September 28, Spirit Halloween took to social media to throw a subtle shade of its own.

“We’re great at bringing things back from the dead @nbcsnl,” the store’s official X page captioned a photo of a costume titled “Irrelevant 50-Year Old TV Show.” The package for the costume reportedly contained “outdated references,” “unknown actors,” and “declining ratings.”

Social media users quickly took to the comments section to praise — and roast — Spirit for the joke SNL included. “This was way funnier than her video,” one person wrote, while another said, “Can you take her time slot one day?”

Saturday Night Live’s hosts and musical guests usually take center stage each week – but sometimes more famous faces steal the show. Tyler Cameron turned heads at Kim Kardashian’s hosting debut in October 2021, joining her in a Bachelor-inspired skit. “The [experience] was incredible,” the Bachelor Nation alum told Us Weekly exclusively weeks after […]

A third commenter added: “Wait, SNL still works?? I thought it would be over in the 90s.”

Hosted by Jean SmartSaturday SNL The episode didn’t shy away from making Spirit the butt of the joke. A pre-pasted sketch showed SNL’s Heidi Gardner, Chloe Fineman And Michael Longfellow as employees filming a fake commercial for the retailer.

“Times may be good on Wall Street, but communities on Main Street are struggling,” Gardner says in a voiceover. “Closed stores, closed stores, empty parking lots. … When hard times come, it’s easy to feel like no one cares. But help is on the way.”

The trio claim that where others see old towns or abandoned K-Marts, they see a place where they can build their store “for six weeks and then flourish.”

“We are here providing vulnerable communities with the things they need most,” Fineman said. “Wigs that give you a rash, disposable smoke machines, and famous character costumes that have been adjusted just enough to avoid a lawsuit.”

Longfellow added, “And thanks to us, the former Auto Zone where a murder occurred is once again a thriving business. …Where a murder occurred.”

The skit then pokes fun at Spirit’s employees, joking that the company provides “six-week jobs for some of the hardest-hit perverts.”

The segment ends with a young girl asking Fineman for one Taylor Swift Costume. “Bet,” Fineman replies with a smile as he hands her the package for “Blonde Woman Singing.”

“That’s not Taylor Swift,” the girl says. “And neither do you,” Fineman replies with a smile as he punches her in the nose.

“Ghost Halloween. If you need us, we are there for you. “For six weeks,” says the threesome. “Because on November 1st we will be gone. And all this trash will end up in the dumpster.”

SNL promises many more big skits in the coming months to celebrate the 50 seasons that have aired. October and November hosts include: Ariana Grande, Michael Keaton And John Mulaneywhile Stevie Nicks, Billie Eilish And Chappell Roan are among the show’s listed musical performances.
