October events planned at Travelers’ Rest State Park

Travelers’ Rest State Park announced its off-season hours and upcoming events this October.

Starting Tuesday and running through April 30, the visitor center will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The visitor center remains closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Free programs on Saturdays in October include wax candle making on October 5th, apple cider pressing on October 12th and a Halloween food drive on October 26th.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks sent the following:

Travelers’ Rest State Park and Visitor Center near Lolo will move to slightly reduced off-season hours beginning Oct. 1 and will host public programs in the fall and winter.

From October 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025, the visitor center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Monday and Tuesday. The visitor center will also be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The park entrance gate remains open to vehicles from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Pedestrian entrances and park paths are open year-round from sunrise to sunset.

Travelers’ Rest is a significant site for Native Americans and an archaeologically confirmed campsite of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The park hosts numerous public programs throughout the year, including some in October.

Free Trekker Kids programs on Saturdays at the state park:

Oct. 5 (11 a.m.-12 p.m.): Wax candle making

Oct. 12 (11 a.m.-noon): Cider pressing with guests from Fort Missoula

“Corpse” of Discovery Special Event:

Oct. 26 (12-3 p.m.): Terribly fun activities for all ages. Please bring a non-perishable food donation for the food bank as entry fee. Costumes are welcome. Activities include pumpkin bowling, creatures of the night, hot apple cider, candy cornhole, a photo booth and more.
