Israel informed the United States of its plans for a ground operation, despite opposition from President Joe Biden, who said: “We should have a ceasefire now.” Joe Biden also said he has spoken to both sides and supports “collective negotiating efforts” to achieve peace.

A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the White House had warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of a larger and longer-term ground operation that could risk a direct confrontation with Iran.

Benjamin Netanyahu sent an indirect warning to Tehran in a video message, saying “no place” in the Middle East was beyond Israel’s reach. He also appealed to the Iranian people, saying Israel wants to live in peace with Iran, while accusing the ayatollahs of “funding” districts across the region to “destroy” Israel.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday that Israel’s “crimes” would not go unpunished and that it would respond at a time and place of its choosing. Tehran said it does not want all-out war but is not afraid of it.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah deputy chief Naim Qassem vowed to continue the fight against Israel, saying the group was prepared for a long war despite losing a number of senior commanders to Israeli attacks. Kassem also said that its fighters would defend Lebanon in the event of a ground invasion by Israel.
