Redding Rancheria Tribal Health introduces free vending machines

Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Systems offers free supplies at vending machines at all locations.

The Harm Reduction vending machines are stocked with items such as Narcan, Fentanyl and Xylazine test strips and needle disposal containers.

“It’s really in the tradition of our ancestors that we’re all here and we have an obligation to take care of everyone, and so we should make an effort. This vending machine is just a small part of our attempt to help those in need when they need it,” said Glen Hayward, executive director of the Redding Rancheria Tribal Health System.

The machine also contains everyday items such as diapers, protein bars, protein shakes and hygiene kits. There is a vending machine on each campus and the items are available to anyone who wants access to the supplies.

Hayward says the machines have been so successful that their customers have even submitted inquiries; Rancheria Tribal Health Systems has done its best to accommodate requests and rotate them.

The machines are restocked every two weeks and are funded by the tribal medical system and a grant through their medication-assisted therapy program. They would like to expand to more locations if their program remains as popular as it is currently.
