Daniel Ricciardo fans will be thrilled to learn that V8 Supercars bosses are setting their sights on the recently sacked Formula 1 superstar, saying the Australian will be “welcomed with open arms”.

Ricciardo has bid farewell to a “wild and wonderful” 14-year Formula 1 journey after the popular Australian driver was sacked by Red Bull Racing.

The eight-time F1 race winner was sacked by his RB team last Thursday, a result that even the 35-year-old himself had expected after his disappointing 2024 season.

It marks the end of an outstanding journey for the former Red Bull and McLaren star, who over 14 seasons in Formula 1 became one of the most popular and lively figures on the circuit and whose infectious smile lit up the circus.

Ricciardo’s F1 career is now over, but Supercars boss Shane Howard announced the category would “definitely like to have him in one of our cars”.

“I think everyone would welcome Daniel with open arms, absolutely,” Howard told News Corp on Monday.

“Do we want to see Daniel Ricciardo in a supercar?” 100 percent.

“Imagine if he could sit in one of our cars and take part in a new road race in Perth, that would be special wouldn’t it?

“It would be huge. He’s such an incredible driver and such an incredible personality and people just absolutely love him.

“Imagine him racing at Bathurst, wow. That would be really, really cool.

“In due course we would contact Daniel and his management.

“Blake Friend on his management team used to work for us at Supercars.

“At the right time we would reach out, but we would definitely like to have him in one of our cars, we would do that 100 percent.”

Ricciardo has mentioned that he would be interested in racing Supercars, NASCAR and MotoGP in the coming years.
