Maine head coach Jordan Stevens reacts to ranked win over No. 21 UAlbany

ORONO, Maine (WABI) – Maine’s 34-20 road win over No. 21 UAlbany showed what can happen as the program progresses under head coach Jordan Stevens.

“Our ability to maintain our focus and energy throughout the game was the best thing we have achieved this year. It definitely gives us some momentum. If we do these things right, we can compete in the fourth quarter. That’s the big thing. We just want to be able to win the game in the fourth game. I think we are one step closer to that goal and increasing the confidence of our players,” said Stevens.

Maine’s success in the red zone was highlighted by two touchdown catches by Cooper Heisey, a touchdown run by Jaharie Martin and a trick play in which Montigo Moss threw into the end zone on a two-point attempt.

“Tigo is a great athlete, he can catch the ball, he can throw, he can punt, he can do those things. “He’s always been the guy that was involved in that play that was about getting the reverse and then getting the pass, so it was a pretty cool moment,” Stevens said.

The victory locker room was a real eye-catcher for the celebrating Black Bears.

“When we win a game, we are happy about the victory. It is important that we understand this. We expect to win games. We’re not here to participate. We’re out here to compete. We’re out here to win. When we do that, we want to be happy about it and be able to celebrate together. “There’s nothing better than sitting in the locker room with the football team after a win,” Stevens said.

They are now 3-2 on the season and have a record of 1-1 in CAA play.

Maine now has a bye week before heading to Delaware on Saturday. Oct. 12 at 1 p.m

The Black Bears will be back in Orono to face Villanova a week later at the same time for the homecoming game.
