2025 NFL Draft Rumors: Executives Rate “Less Than 10 Consensus First-Round Players Currently” | News, results, highlights, statistics and rumors

Several league executives are unconvinced about the depth of the projected first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Jim Nagy, executive director of the Senior Bowl, reported Monday that after speaking with four executives, there are “less than 10 consensus first-rounders right now.” He added that they believe there is an “unusually small number” of surefire first-round picks.

There is also some uncertainty surrounding the top of the potential draft order, as there is no clear No. 1 quarterback entering the 2024 college football season. Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski discussed the lack of a consistent top player in the most recent top 10 mock draft B/R NFL Scouting Department.

“Colorado’s Travis Hunter is arguably the best pure talent, even if he doesn’t have a clear position and neither of his positions — cornerback and wide receiver — are typically considered for the slot,” Sobleski wrote. “Another quarterback could very well take the spot, but none are currently viewed as a slam-dunk option. No edge rusher offers a complete package either.”

Teams focused on selecting quarterbacks near the top of the 2024 draft as six signal-callers were selected in the first 12 picks. With the reported lower number of consensus first-round picks in 2025, it could be more difficult for front offices to add a passer.

A lack of top talent could also make teams more willing to move up in the first round to select talent that can make an immediate impact. There were five trades on the first day of the 2024 NFL Draft, and that number could continue to rise.

With roughly seven months until the 2025 draft, more players could emerge as potential first-rounders before the end of the 2024 college season.
