Goldie Hawn wants to make a wedding comedy with the Kurt Russell family

Goldie Hawn is still thinking about her idea for a film that would star her longtime partner Kurt Russell and their children.

When Hawn, 78, sat down with Entertainment Tonight at MindUP’s Goldie Hawn Foundation charity event on Friday, September 27, she fulfilled her previously expressed desire to make a film with her entire family.

“Everyone goes to a wedding and everyone decides to break up,” Hawn said of a possible premise for the film. “Oh yeah, it’s a comedy by the way. But it doesn’t exist, it only arises in my head. It’s very funny because weddings are funny and when everyone doesn’t get along and you have to pretend it’s funny. We could do that.”

Hawn previously said during a June appearance on the Let’s talk to Kelly Ripa off camera Podcast that she would like to make a film with her family “before we all get too old.”

Hawn and Russell, 73, have been dating since 1983. The couple share children Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson from Hawn’s previous relationship with Bill Hudson, as well as Wyatt Russell, their youngest son. Russell also shares his eldest son, Boston Russell, with his ex-wife, Season Hubley.

Russell and Oliver, 48, opened up about a possible family collaboration, with Oliver telling ET, “We’ve talked about it because there’s so many in the family who are in this business.” Russell said, “No, we have nothing solid. It’s just an idea that would be fun if it were right.”

“Oh God, I know exactly what she’s talking about and it’s based on a wedding – maybe my sister’s first wedding,” Oliver added of Hawn’s idea. “Perhaps. But it’s not going to happen… it would be a great film about family, about togetherness, about acceptance in all of that.”

Oliver said he is currently developing an animated series that will feature his family members in voice roles. Hawn originally told Ripa she was in the works in June. “I think that’s where we’re going to exist,” he told ET. “Animated is the perfect medium.”

Hawn was most recently seen in the two Netflix series Christmas Chronicles Films released in 2018 and 2020 as Mrs. Claus; Kurt also appeared as Santa Claus in the holiday-themed films.
