Has Strictly been hit by scandal after Amanda Abbington’s claims were partially confirmed?

For their part, this year’s participants were eager to draw a line in the sand and move on.

At a press event ahead of the release of the new series, which marks the show’s 20th anniversary, 1980s pop star Toyah Willcox said the Strictly team had “done absolutely everything” to make this series a good experience for to make them.

Former Love Islander Tasha Ghouri agreed and said it was “about moving forward”.

Meanwhile, DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles said it was “important” that complaints were heard.

“And they were, so everything seems fine to me.”

When the show began earlier this month, there was no mention of Strictly presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman’s controversies.

This is perhaps not surprising. Millions of people watch Strictly to escape – and it perhaps didn’t feel like the right time to talk about some of the very serious claims that have been made.

There was also a warning from the woman behind Strictly, who urged critics of the show to “be careful”.

“It would be a shame if it got picked apart and died,” Strictly co-creator and first executive producer Karen Smith told BBC News.

“Because journalists, if they continue to select and continue to criticize, they could end up destroying the show that they talk about for weeks and months of the year.”

So the show goes on for now – and that’s not surprising either.

Strictly is the BBC’s crown jewel and despite its fluctuating ratings, it remains one of the biggest shows on television.

It’s hard to imagine what could replace it in that Saturday night prime-time slot, particularly in the run-up to Christmas, and the BBC hopes Monday’s report draws a line under what has been a difficult few months.
