Highlighting the veteran presence in Mississippi through film

Mississippi is the place for movies. Several projects have been filmed in recent years, including in the greater Jackson area. An upcoming film called “Hotel Tehran” is in production in Jackson. The scenes were filmed all over the capital, including at Millsaps College. The film tells the story of veterans who struggle with their experiences in Afghanistan after returning home. The film’s stars include Liam Neeson and Zachary Levi. One person working on the film is Mississippi native John Read, who has worked as a location manager and scout for over 30 years. According to Read, Mississippi’s influence works even behind the scenes at Hotel Tehran. “We have quite a few Mississippians in Hotel Tehran, and it’s a big movie. This is the biggest film we’ve made in the last five to 10 years,” Read said. David Lipper, producer of “Hotel Tehran,” also said that the “immense presence of veterans and active duty personnel” in Mississippi was something the crews working on the film wanted to include. This is the final week of filming “Hotel Tehran” in the Jackson area before heading overseas.
