“It’s a huge honor:” Louis Jamernik takes over as North Dakota Hockey’s next captain

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) – He’s now a captain, Captain Louis V. For his final season in Grand Forks, fifth-grader Louis Jamernik V joins the elite as the new captain of the North Dakota hockey team.

Jamernik is excited about the unique opportunity to lead this team.

“It’s a huge honor,” said Jamernik. “When you look back at the history of this program you see how special it is, it’s absolutely huge, and to be voted in by your peers is even more special, so yeah, I’m excited for this year.

“In this locker room, everyone is a leader and in our leadership group we rely heavily on each other to carry the load, so it’s not just me or anything like that, it’s everyone.”

Jamernik manages to play hockey and get a degree in commercial aviation, which surprises head coach Brad Berry.

“He is a great young man who invests in his life every day, but he cares about our program,” Berry said. “He cares about the people in the locker room and he’s done a really good job of balancing his own life with a lot going on and also the team, so again he’s a great choice for a leader of our team .” selected.”

As he rises to new heights, Louis values ​​the opportunity to not only play for this team, but also to be its captain.

“Every day I pinch myself,” Jamernik said. “Ralph built this place for us and it is a great honor and privilege. Every day we walk through that front door we must remember how special she is and we must bring her with us every day. You can never take a day for granted as this is my fifth year. I don’t know where the time went.”

But before he ends his college career, he has one goal in mind: bringing home the ninth green banner.

“That’s all,” said Jamernik. “That’s why we play hockey, to win games and win championships, and that’s another reason North Dakota is so special because we have a history of championships. We have the guys, I know we have what it takes, so I’m looking forward to it.”

North Dakota begins its season with an Oct. 5 appearance against Augustana with puck drop at 6:07 p.m. at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
