Would Disney+'s Percy Jackson ever introduce the multiverse to bring back the movie characters? Rick Riordan weighed in

The Sea of Monsters is about to get one Book-to-film adaptation in the form of the second season of the show. As fans of Rick Riordan’s novels know, the author has created his own book universe based on mythology. Here’s what Riordan said about the idea of having his own multiverse:

I mean, Marvel hasn’t gone into the multiverse – how many films did they set there before introducing this concept? So I think if that happened, that would be the future.

During a conversation with PeopleRick Riordan also addressed the question of whether actors like Logan Lerman and Alexandra Daddario could return if a multiverse were actually established. Here were his thoughts:

It was a very conscious decision that we said, “Okay, we’re not going to delve into the footage.” I don’t want anything to overshadow the new young cast and take anything away from them. This has to be their moment and we have to give them room to breathe and be these characters without having to worry about everything that came before.

It’s no secret that Rick Riordan wasn’t a fan of the original Percy Jackson Movies, and neither were the studio and the fans, when you thought about it The franchise fell apart after two films. He also compared the films to putting his life’s work through a “meat grinder”. So maybe he has a right to pay attention to the new series and leave the films untouched. The author also said the following:

I’m at a point in my career where I have the time and energy to be part of the process and make sure my voice is heard. I now understand how things can go so horribly wrong with adjustments.

That’s not to say that Percy Jackson’s paths haven’t crossed in the past and present. When the TV series was in the works, Logan Lerman shared he was ‘happy’ to let fans see how the series is being made under the direction of Rick Riordan, letting them know that he’s unlikely to join the cast, but “who cares.”Lerman and the new Percy, Walker Scobell, also met and took a photo together at an event celebrating the launch of Hulu on Disney+ earlier this year.
