Kumaraswamy accuses Lokayukta SIT chief of bribery and corruption | Latest News India

Former Karnataka chief minister and Union minister HD Kumaraswamy accused Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M Chandrashekhar and the head of the Karnataka Lokayukta’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing a 2007 land fixation case, of corruption and extortion.

Kumaraswamy demanded the suspension of Chandrashekhar and accused the Congress government of misusing the government machinery for political purposes. The allegations came after Lokayukta police questioned Kumaraswamy for nearly an hour and a half on Friday in connection with the 2007 case. The case is related to 1.11 hectares of land in Gangenahalli in north Bengaluru that was acquired by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) for a plot.

Kumaraswamy produced several documents to support his claims, including a complaint from a junior police officer who accused Chandrashekhar of the demand 20 crore and another complaint was lodged with former Home Minister Rajneesh Goel alleging harassment against the ADGP.

“Chandrashekhar is using his position to settle personal scores,” Kumaraswamy said.

He also alleged that Chandrashekhar had sought permission to question officials of the Governor’s Office about leaks related to a pending criminal sanction against the former CM. “What post was Chandrashekhar promised by the government? Why isn’t action being taken against him? “The police are being used for political revenge,” Kumaraswamy accused.

“Chandrashekhar has sought permission from Lokayukta ADGP Manish Karbekar to investigate officials in the governor’s secretariat for information leaks. Who is Chandrashekhar? On whose instructions is he acting? Is it the CM or other ministers? “This suggests that the police are being abused by the government,” he said.

The union minister also accused Chandrashekhar of being involved in a racket led by businessman Vijay Tata in which large sums of money were extorted from traders and builders. “An FIR was lodged against Chandrashekhar but no action was taken. Vijay Tata more than blackmailed 100 crore from PACL Ltd with Chandrashekhar’s help. He even owns an illegal 38-storey building near Manyata Tech Park,” Kumaraswamy alleged.

Chandrashekhar is originally an IPS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre. He was included in the Himachal Pradesh squad in 1998 but later came to Karnataka as a deputy for five years. “He falsely claimed that the weather conditions in Himachal were unsuitable and created fake documents to proceed in Karnataka,” Kumaraswamy alleged.

Kumaraswamy further announced that he would submit all relevant documents to the Union Home Minister and formally lodge a complaint against Chandrashekhar. “I would like to ask DG&IGP Alok Mohan: What is your intelligence (department) doing? Why hasn’t this officer been suspended yet?” he asked.

Reacting to these serious allegations, ADGP Chandrashekhar in a letter to his Lokayukta colleagues dismissed the allegations as “false and malicious” and aimed at obstructing the work of the Lokayukta SIT. “An accused of Crime No. 16/4 of SIT, HD Kumaraswamy, made false and malicious allegations and threats at a press conference. As you know, the SIT had sought criminal sanction from the relevant authority for the accused. This defendant is on bail…he did this to prevent us from carrying out our duties. It appears that his aim is to create fear among the SIT officials by attacking me,” Chandrashekhar said in his letter.

The ADGP also informed its team that they would continue their work undeterred by political pressure. “But a defendant, no matter how high and powerful, is a defendant. Let us not allow such accusations and threats to demotivate us. As head of SIT, I promise you that I will work without fear or favor and bring all criminals and accused in our cases to justice. I also promise you that I will protect you from outside influences.”

Chandrashekhar ended his letter with a quote from Irish writer George Bernard Shaw: “Never wrestle with a pig, otherwise you will both get dirty, and the pig likes it.” He added: “If we engage in a fight with pigs , we get dirty because pigs thrive in dirt.” So we shouldn’t wrestle with pigs. Satyameva Jayate.”

When asked about Kumaraswamy’s allegations against Lokayukta ADGP, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “Kumaraswamy has made mistakes and hence he is making false allegations against others. “It is not right to comment on officials. I don’t want to react to Kumaraswamy’s statements.”
