The ex-wife of ‘the world’s worst animal abuser’ Adam Britton breaks her silence and reveals the moment she learned of his shocking crimes

The then-wife of the famous zoologist jailed for raping, torturing and killing dogs has revealed the moment she found out about his “evil” abuse – and how he begged her to send him dog books even while he was behind bars sat.

Adam Britton’s now-ex Erin told Australian news show 60 Minutes that she was out of town with a work crew when she was told police had stormed her Darwin home.

She had “no idea why or what the crimes were” – until a lawyer told her that her husband was accused of raping and torturing 42 dogs, killing at least 39 of them.

“She told me that there were crimes of animal cruelty and, you know, obviously bestiality,” she recalled in her first interview about the horror crime.

“And when she told me about bestiality, my brain was kind of in denial,” Erin said.

“Hearing this information is the scariest thing you could ever hear about your partner. It was so shocking… I felt sick, I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t think,” she said.

“He’s a psychopath… I still can’t understand how someone could be so twisted, so evil.”

Britton, who worked with David Attenborough at the BBC, was sentenced to 10 years in prison last month for the horrific abuse and possession of child pornography.

Erin has since divorced the British-born zoologist, but says he continued to contact her behind bars to beg for books on dog domestication, breed history and behavior.

“He writes about it as if he can continue his fantasies in his head and that really makes me angry,” Erin said, saying the “disturbing” request had left her head “messed up.”

“He has no awareness of what is right or wrong, I feel like I have lost so much of my life and I feel completely betrayed,” Erin said.

“He just destroyed my whole life.”

Britton, a senior research fellow at Charles Darwin University, began his abuse in 2014 – and only stopped when he was arrested in April 2022 after authorities were sent a video he posted online of himself committing it who had shared abuse.

He discussed sodomy, animal abuse, the acquisition of dogs and methods of disposing of their bodies with users of encrypted messaging services.

A search of Britton’s laptop also uncovered 15 files of child abuse material he had found online, including content depicting young children being subjected to horrific acts.
