ARLINGTON, Texas – Arkansas football ended the Arlington era of the Southwest Classic rivalry with an all-too-familiar feeling.

Heartbreak.

The Razorbacks (3-2, 1-1 SEC) blew a fourth-quarter lead and fell 21-17 to No. 24 Texas A&M on Saturday. The Aggies (4-1, 2-0) took advantage of their first advantage of the afternoon and delivered the decisive blow with nine minutes left with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Marcel Reed to Tre Watson.

Arkansas’ defense played well enough to win, but the offense struggled to protect Taylen Green and posted its worst rushing performance of the season with 100 yards on the ground.

The Hogs only had three points after the first quarter, with Green under constant pressure and forced to clear the pocket. A strip sack from Texas A&M’s Nic Scourton was the dagger.

The last meeting between the two schools took place on Saturday at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium. With the 21:17 loss, Arkansas finishes with a 4:9 record in Arlington.

Fumble Arkansas: Recovered by Texas A&M

A strip sack from Nic Scourton ties it up and it’s a fitting end for the Hogs, who struggled up front all afternoon and couldn’t give Taylen Green enough time in the pocket.

Texas A&M touchdown: Marcel Reed 5-yard pass to Tre Watson

The Aggies managed 75 yards in eight plays and took the lead for the first time this afternoon, 21-17, with nine minutes left. Texas A&M gained 52 yards on five carries on this drive.

Arkansas’ field goal is good from 45 yards

Kyle Ramsey drills his first field goal attempt of the afternoon to give Arkansas a 17-14 lead with 13:24 left. A hard run by Ja’Quinden Jackson on third down carried the ball and gave Ramsey about five fewer yards to cover on the kick.

Arkansas’ fake field goal fails

The Hogs attempted another fake, but the play had no chance as Devin Bale was trapped behind the line of scrimmage. It would have been a 50-yard attempt for Kyle Ramsey, but the Aggies now take over with good field position.

Jackson gets his first sack of the season and we get to halftime. Arkansas and Texas A&M are tied 14-14 heading into the locker room.

Texas A&M Interception: Dezz Ricks tackles Taylen Green

Green tried to get a ball down the field in the two-minute drill, but Tyrone Broden was double-marked and Ricks made an easy interception. Now the Aggies have a chance to take the lead at halftime.

That the Aggies immediately capitalized on Arkansas’ turnover, tying the score at 14-14 with 8:58 remaining in the first half. Texas A&M’s defensive line controls the line of scrimmage and just made a key swing play.

Arkansas Fumble: Recovered by Scooby Williams

Texas A&M’s Shemar Stewart botched a read and forced a fumble from Taylen Green. Scooby Williams pounced on it and the Aggies had a first-and-goal from the Arkansas 10-yard line.

Arkansas touchdown: Ja’Quinden Jackson 8-yard run

The Hogs took advantage of the fake punt by finding the end zone just three plays later. Jackson now has nine rushing touchdowns this season and the Hogs lead 14-7 with 4:50 left in the first quarter.

Arkansas rolls on 4th-and-15 and is rewarded with a huge run from punter Devin Bale. It looked like Bale had the choice to stab or run and he chose wisely.

Texas A&M touchdown: Marcel Reed 58-yard pass to Noah Thomas

The Aggies struck quickly on their second drive of the game. Arkansas cornerback Kee’yon Stewart was beaten on a comeback route and then missed an open-field tackle, allowing Thomas to slide into the end zone. The score is 7:7 and there are 10:28 minutes left in the first quarter.

Arkansas touchdown: Taylen Green 75-yard pass to Isaac TeSlaa

It’s a dream start for the Hogs. After two memorable plays early in the game, Green broke away from the pressure and tossed a dime to Isaac TeSlaa down the left sideline, giving Arkansas an early 7-0 lead.
