Jujutsu Kaisen Ending Explained: What Happens to Sukuna’s Finger?

Jujutsu Kaisen ends its story of curses rather vaguely, so here’s a look at what happens at the end.

As a battle shonen manga, Jujutsu Kaisen focuses primarily on combat and a complex energy system. The story takes place in a world where negative emotions create curses. These curses take many forms and threaten humanity.

While there are wizards who combat the curses, the root of the problem remains. In the final battle in Shinjuku, the wizards gather to defeat Sukuna, Kenjaku and Uraume. Kenjaku falls first, followed by Sukuna and then Uraume, who takes his own life.

Additionally, the manga contains many plot points after Sukuna’s death. Here’s a closer look at Jujutsu Kaisen’s ending and what it means.

Wizards have successfully reset the jujutsu world

After Sukuna’s death, the wizards discuss each person’s role in the battle. While most of the credit goes to Yuta, Kusakabe notes that Mei Mei had it the easiest. However, Ui Ui snaps at him and says Mei Mei did all the hard work regarding the new shadow style.

Due to a binding vow, only certain people can use this. The inventor, Sadatsuna Ashiya, made it this way to prevent the technology from leaking and cursing users. Mei Mei monopolizes the technique because it is valuable to wizards who do not have an innate technique.

She says it can become a power on par with the three major wizard clans. Master Tengen told Mei Mei about their whereabouts. She plans the downfall of the Kamo and Gojo clans. Afterwards, all the wizards busy themselves with redesigning the jujutsu world and the students take on new missions. Meanwhile, the Culling Game players restart their careers and try to return to their normal lives.

At the end of Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna’s finger can be seen

The reason Jujutsu Kaisen has a vague ending is the existence of Sukuna’s finger. The final finger is sealed in a wooden box somewhere. Before the Battle of the Strongest, Sukuna had the power of 19 fingers and consumed the skull of his original body to make up for the lack of a finger.

The magicians hid the last finger from him until the end. As a final measure, Nobara used resonance to ensure that the box and the place where it is stored reminds us of Chapter 1 when Yuji first found the finger.

Furthermore, when Sukuna meets Mahito in the final chapter, he says that he will choose a different path in life if he gets the next chance. Therefore, if Sukuna’s finger is placed there, there is a possibility that he could return again.

But when he comes back, he won’t go down the same path of meaningless revenge. The last remnant of the King of Curses is now used to ward off weaker curses from this area. Even if the manga ends happily, the never-ending cycle of curses continues.

The finale of Jujutsu Kaisen features several unresolved storylines

While Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 271 gives Sukuna a fitting farewell, the story in general leaves many unanswered questions. Aside from the general questions like Yuji’s domain, Uro’s whereabouts, Usami’s identity, and many more questions, even the final chapters leave some confusing plot points.

Mei Mei says that the three major clans tried to make her brother “defective” but doesn’t elaborate. Additionally, Takaba and someone with a similar appearance to Kenjaku talk jokes in Chapter 270.

So we’re left wondering if Takaba and Kenjaku were alive the whole time and if the others were aware of it. Higuruma’s former employee returns to her house and meets a strange-looking man. He has unusually large eyes, which makes it unclear whether he is human or cursed. However, the two seem to know each other quite well, so the woman isn’t surprised at all.
