Jelly Roll makes his “SNL” debut as “Hacks” Hannah Einbinder cameos to introduce him with host Jean Smart

The musician performed two songs from his upcoming album “Beautifully Broken” during the season 50 premiere of “SNL.”

The musician, 39, made his Saturday Night Live He made his debut on September 28 when he appeared as the musical guest on the comedy series’ 50th season premiere, hosted by Jean Smart.

Jelly Roll’s first appearance included a surprise appearance in the form of Smart’s Hacks Co-star Hannah Einbender, who appeared alongside the host to introduce the singer for his song “Liar” from his upcoming album, Beautifully broken.

Dressed in a gray embellished denim jacket, black top and black pants, Jelly Roll showed off his impressive vocals in a performance that featured his band performing behind him in a unique lineup on each side and the singers then standing on a slight raised platform behind each belt line.

Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, later sang “Winning Streak,” another song from his upcoming LP.

The star previously expressed his excitement about his SNL Gig and writes in a post: “The premiere of the 50th season of SNL. BRB will cry for a few hours and call every family member I have. I bring therapeutic music to my favorite show of all time. God is good.”

Jelly rolls SNL The appearance came shortly after the star recently revealed that he wants to pursue acting projects.

When speaking to PEOPLE and Weekly entertainment On the red carpet before the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 15, the father of two said he specifically wanted to get into a television series so he could return to the awards show in the future after first calling in the event “the coolest experience.”

“It’s crazy, man,” he said. “I want to be on a TV show now so I can come here every year, dude. I call all my country music friends and tell them, ‘We’re missing the mark, dude. We have to be at the Emmys.’ “

During the annual awards show, Jelly Roll performed as part of the In Memoriam segment, where he sang his original song “I Am Not Okay.”

SNL announced the cast for its groundbreaking season earlier this month.

Returning cast members Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker have been promoted to the main cast after two years each as leads, while Punkie Johnson, Chloe Troast and Molly Kearney have all stepped down. Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline have since been added to the sketch comedy show’s roster.

Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, James Austin Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson and Bowen Yang round out the rest of the cast.

Saturday Night Live airs weekends at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC. Jelly Roll’s latest album, Beautifully brokenwill be available for purchase and streaming on October 11th.
