NFL scores, live updates: Chiefs face 49ers in Super Bowl rematch in Santa Clara

NFL scores, live updates: Chiefs face 49ers in Super Bowl rematch in Santa Clara

It’s not often that the NFL sets the stage for a nationally televised game on a Sunday afternoon. It’s also not often that we see a Super Bowl rematch early in the season between two teams that are still eyeing a return to February football.

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers had very different starts to the season. Patrick Mahomes’ numbers are down compared to some of his more statistically spectacular years, but the Chiefs continue to win close games. They are 5-0 after an early bye and four of their five wins have come by just one point. The 49ers, meanwhile, have a dominant offense despite injuries to key players – they’re second in the league in passing yards and third in rushing yards – but blew a 3-3 mark en route to a double-digit lead in the second half after six weeks.

While there are two games (Raiders at Rams, Panthers at Commanders) in the 4:00 p.m. ET window on CBS, national audiences will see Kansas City at San Francisco at 4:25 p.m. ET on Fox.

You can chat about it all with other Yahoo Sports fans and NFL experts using our new game discussion feature in the Yahoo Sports app. You can download the app for Apple here and for Google here and make sure you already have the latest version. Will Cooper Kupp be on the move?

Will Cooper Kupp be on the move?

Last week, Pro Bowl wide receivers Amari Cooper and Davante Adams went from disappointing teams in decline to teams looking for something more.

Will another be added by the NFL trade deadline on November 5th?

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reports on a number of players coming up in trade rumors around the league. The list is led by Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, including New York Jets wideout Mike Williams and seven other players at various positions. Rapoport’s report casts a wide net and is worth your time if you’re trying to get a feel for the excitement surrounding the NFL as the trade deadline approaches in 16 days.

It’s also worth noting that this includes Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert and offensive lineman Nate Davis other Player Rapoport is considering names as potential players that have reportedly drawn interest in trade talks surrounding the NFL. We already discussed the rumors about Herbert and Davis in this article on Sunday.

NFL trade rumors are increasing

It’s hard to imagine the Rams parting ways with Cooper Kupp. The Super Bowl LVI MVP is one of the NFL’s best wide receivers when healthy. Kupp has reliable hands and crisp route-running skills. When healthy, Kupp is a threat in the open field and difficult to guard. But injuries prevented Kupp from reaching his full potential. And with Rapoport pointing out that Kupp is due $20 million in cash over each of the next three years, it’s understandable why Los Angeles’ front office would look to free up cap space and some draft capital from one to collect the team in need of the recipient.

If the Rams decide to trade Kupp, it could have a trickle-down effect for a number of playoff contenders. With the Bears looking for a postseason berth, I’m more interested in the NFL’s trade deadline this year than in previous years.

Check out the other names from Rap Sheet’s list that are reportedly drawing interest in trade talks:

  • Preston SmithGreen Bay Packers defensive end
  • Andre DillardGreen Bay Packers offensive lineman
  • Azeez OjulariNew York Giants edge defender
  • Quinton JeffersonCleveland Browns defenseman
  • Miles SandersCarolina Panthers running back
  • While offensive and defensive players will likely be on the Bears’ shopping list at the trade deadline, I don’t see Chicago and Green Bay doing deals with each other. However, potential moves for Preston Smith and Andre Dillard could impact the Bears’ search for players at those positions on other teams. Something similar could be said about Miles Sanders, whose place on the trade block could impact the market for teams that might target Khalil Herbert in a trade.

Of the names Rapoport lists above, I think Azeez Ojulari and Quinton Jefferson are plausible fits as potential trade targets for the Bears at the NFL trade deadline. In a world where you can’t have too much pass rush help, the 24-year-old Ojulari could be a useful addition. Ojulari has just 11 sacks in 24 games since collecting 8 sacks in 17 contests as a rookie in 2021, but adding another veteran pass rusher could be on Bears GM Ryan Poles’ agenda. As for Jefferson, the 31-year-old defensive tackle could potentially round out the depth on the team’s interior defensive line.

In the end, it will be interesting to see which teams continue to release names on the trading block. I expect the NFL trade rumor mill to continue churning over the next 16 days. And part of me believes the Bears will make (and receive) calls.

Indiana high school party shooting leaves one dead and 10 injured: What we know

A shooting at a high school party in Fort Wayne, Indiana, left one person dead and 10 others injured late Saturday evening, authorities said. The community was shaken and police searched for answers.

The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) reported the incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of Manistee Drive on Stellhorn Road, a suburb in the northeast part of the city.

According to local station WISH-TV, multiple 911 calls alerted police to shots fired and people were reported to be fleeing in all directions. Officers who arrived at the scene described the incident as “chaotic,” the outlet reported.

According to police, investigators learned from witnesses that the shooting occurred during what they called a “high school-age party.”

Early Sunday morning, authorities confirmed that 11 people had been shot, including the deceased victim.

According to police, the ten other victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The exact nature and extent of these injuries were not disclosed.

The department has not released the names or ages of the victims and remains cautious as the investigation continues.

They also did not provide any information about how many suspects may have been involved in the shooting, leaving many questions unanswered.

Local Indiana station WPTA reported that the incident remains under active investigation by FWPD, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the coroner’s office.

The shooting sparked a response from city leaders. Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker issued a statement Sunday afternoon addressing community concerns and the ongoing investigation.

“My heart is heavy today as we try to process the violence that took place in our city last night,” Tucker said. “The FWPD is working tirelessly to learn more about what happened and to bring those responsible to justice.”

The mayor emphasized the importance of community unity in the face of this tragedy. “The safety of our community is critical to ensuring a better future for Fort Wayne,” she said.

“My prayer is that we as residents and neighbors will come together as one and not accept this type of behavior.”

Speaker Johnson criticizes the revelation of American information about Israel’s attack plans against Iran: “Very worrying”

Speaker Johnson criticizes the revelation of American information about Israel’s attack plans against Iran: “Very worrying”

House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed deep concern Sunday over what he said was a major leak from U.S. intelligence detailing Israel’s retaliatory plans against Iran, stressing that he was monitoring the situation “closely.”

Johnson (R-La.), who is campaigning in Michigan, spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and said he would receive a “secret” briefing on the leak later in the day.

“The leak is very worrying. “There are some serious allegations being made there, an investigation is underway and I will be briefed on it in a few hours,” Johnson told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “We’re following it closely.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson arrives for a press conference on October 11, 2024. ZUMAPRESS.com

“I spoke to my friend Bibi, Prime Minister Netanyahu, yesterday to encourage him,” he added. “I think the United States must unequivocally stand with our ally there…we are on the precipice…of a new era of security and freedom for Israel. And I think we are very close.”

Last Friday, alleged documents dated October 15 and 16 made the rounds on Telegram, posted there by an account titled “Middle_East_Spectator.” This Telegram channel has published pro-Iranian material in the past.

The documents were marked with top secret classification markings and others indicating they should only be viewed by the “Five Eyes” alliance between the U.S. and Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

As CNN reported, these documents revealed Israeli preparations for an attack and the number of rockets fired at Ramat David airfield last Tuesday and Wednesday.

One of the documents claimed that Israel was moving munitions in preparation.

Those files also claimed that U.S. intelligence found evidence that the Israeli Air Force conducted significant exercises last week while possibly training for an attack.

The leak has sparked an investigation into how these sensitive files ended up on the Internet, and senior U.S. officials are concerned about whether there are additional documents containing even more damaging information.

Iran fired around 180 ballistic missiles at Israel earlier this month in retaliation for the Israeli strike that killed notorious longtime Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, as well as the previous assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Haniyeh was killed in an explosion in July in Tehran, where he was attending the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Both Hezbollah and Hamas are Iranian-backed proxy terror groups.

The Islamic Republic’s bombing of Israel on October 1 was the second time this year that Iran has directly attacked the Jewish state.

Benjamin Netanyahu makes a statement on the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. X / @netanyahu

Netanyahu has vowed to retaliate, as he did in response to the bombing from Iran in April over the deaths of two Iranian generals.

The world has been eagerly awaiting Israel’s retaliation, fearing it could spark a wider conflict in the Middle East. Some foreign policy hawks have floated the idea that Israel should target Iran’s nuclear facilities.

One of the documents reportedly confirmed that Israel has nuclear weapons – which the Jewish state has not publicly confirmed – and that the US has seen no evidence that it intends to attack Iranian nuclear outposts.

President Biden spoke to Netanyahu about Iran’s attack earlier this month and said publicly that he has a good idea of how Israel will retaliate.

“My view is that there is a chance – and my colleagues agree – that we can probably deal with Israel and Iran in a way that ends the conflict for a while. In other words, it stops the back and forth,” Biden told reporters on Friday.
