Find out about roster situations around the NBA

Find out about roster situations around the NBA

As expected, the majority of NBA teams made their roster cuts on Saturday and did not wait until Monday’s deadline to finalize their regular season rosters.

Completing these moves on Saturday will ensure that players on non-guaranteed contracts will receive clear waivers on the Monday before the regular season begins. If a team had waited until Monday to waive a player on a non-guaranteed contract, he would not have cleared waivers until Wednesday and the team would have had to pay two days’ salary.

After Saturday’s flurry of roster moves, here’s the state of play around the NBA…

Teams whose rosters fall within regular season limits

Of the 30 NBA teams, 29 have rosters that meet the league’s regular roster restrictions. These state that clubs cannot promote more than 15 players on standard contracts or three on two-way contracts.

The following 14 teams are right at the limit with 15 players on standard contracts and three on two-way contracts:

  • Atlanta Hawks
  • Brooklyn Nets
  • Chicago Bulls
  • Dallas Mavericks
  • Denver Nuggets
  • Los Angeles Clippers
  • Los Angeles Lakers
  • Milwaukee Bucks
  • Oklahoma City Thunder
  • Portland Trail Blazers
  • San Antonio Spurs
  • Toronto Raptors
  • Utah Jazz
  • Washington Wizards

Just because these rosters appear ready for the regular season doesn’t mean they’re completely set. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see one or more of these teams make a small change before Monday’s regular-season roster deadline. This could be as simple as swapping one two-way player for another.

The following 11 teams are promoting 14 players on standard contracts and three on two-way contracts:

  • Boston Celtics
  • Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Golden State Warriors
  • Houston Rockets
  • Indiana Pacers
  • Memphis Grizzlies
  • Miami Heat
  • New Orleans Pelicans
  • Philadelphia 76ers
  • Phoenix Suns
  • Sacramento Kings

Some of these teams are in luxury tax jurisdictions or have minimal flexibility below the tax threshold. Therefore, they will open the season with an open roster spot to either keep their projected tax bill under control or maintain some financial flexibility. However, this is not the case for everyone. The Rockets For example, they are completely exempt from taxes and could easily expand their squad if they wanted.

Four other teams are within the regular season limits. These teams are as follows:

  • Charlotte Hornets: 15 players on standard contracts and two on two-way contracts.
  • Detroit Pistons: 14 players on standard contracts and one on a two-way contract.
  • New York Knicks: 12 players on standard contracts and three on two-way contracts.
  • Orlando magic: 15 players on standard contracts and two on two-way contracts.

The Hornets, PistonsAnd magic will likely fill their open two-way slots sooner rather than later. In fact, Detroit already has its eye on two players – Alones Williams And Cole Swider – for his openings. There is no cap savings created by keeping a two-way slot open, so I would bet on Charlotte and Orlando adding another two-way player in the coming days.

The Pistons also have an open spot on their 15-man roster, and it’s perhaps no coincidence that they’re also the only team in the NBA that still has cap room. Bringing in a 15th player, even if he is on a non-guaranteed contract, would slowly eat away at that cap space, a scenario they would likely want to avoid in order to maximize their ability to take salary cuts during the season.

The Curtsy face one of the most restrictive hard cap situations in the NBA, with just $3.58 million in cap space below the second cap threshold, which they cannot exceed at any point in the 2024-25 season. They can’t even promote two more veterans at minimum salary, so they’re expected to sign a veteran to a minimum contract and promote a two-way rookie to the standard roster – Ariel Hukporti is the leading candidate and would count against the rookie minimum cap ($1,157,153) instead of the veteran minimum ($2,087,519), allowing the Knicks to stay under the hard cap.

The Knicks are permitted to carry only 12 players on standard contracts for up to 14 days each and up to 28 days total during the regular season. It looks like they’ll likely use those first 14 days in the first two weeks of the season, meaning they won’t have to add the 13th and 14th teams until the first week of November.

Teams that still need to take action before Monday’s deadline

Only one NBA team still needs to make the necessary cuts to stay within regular-season roster limits:

Minnesota Timberwolves: 16 players on standard contracts and three on two-way contracts.

As a result of the Karl Anthony cities trade, the Timberwolves carry 15 players with fully guaranteed contracts and one (PJ Dozier) to a partially guaranteed deal. Dozier is guaranteed to receive at least $1 million of his minimum salary contract, which is valued at about $2.09 million on Minnesota’s books.

It sounds like the Wolves would like to keep Dozier, who will likely become a veteran forward Keita Bates Diop the strange man out. Bates-Diop was a throw-in in the Towns trade and was not at practice on Saturday.

If they waive Bates-Diop, Minnesota will have to pay his full guaranteed salary of $2,654,644, along with associated tax penalties, allowing the front office to continue exploring the trade market to find a taker for him (or a separate one). to find deal) to avoid this scenario. The Wolves must reduce the number of players on standard contracts to 15 and finalize their regular season roster by 4:00 p.m. local time on Monday.

10 contract signings were reported, but they never materialized

A few weeks ago, we looked at the reported deals in Exhibit 10 that had not yet closed and found that most of them would become official before opening night.

As expected, that was indeed the case. Of the 11 players we highlighted, nine ended up signing Exhibit 10 contracts as reported and were subsequently released. A tenth player, Boo Buiedid not complete his expected contract with the Suns, but instead signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Knicks.

That leaves only one reported agreement (Exhibit 10) that was not finalized – a former security guard from Missouri Sean East II I never signed with him Lakers.

East and the Lakers could technically complete this deal as late as Sunday or Monday, but that seems unlikely since the team would face a cap hit if East were signed and waived this late in the offseason. With just $45,000 of headroom below the second tax threshold, it’s unlikely the Lakers will be cavalier enough to make even a small increase in their team salary.

How Smile 2 connects to the original film

How Smile 2 connects to the original film

This article contains spoilers from Smile 2which is now in the cinema. Since suicide is also discussed, please be careful.

Smile 2 is a direct sequel to Smile (2022), but the trailers have left fans wondering how the new film connects to the original. Smile 2 follows pop star Skye Riley as she attempts to fend off the Smile Demon that is Dr. Rose Cotter plagued in the first film. The Smile creature, which clings to the hosts and drives them to suicide, is the main antagonist in both films, but Smile 2 brings with it an entirely new cast.

That’s not shocking. Finally, Rose, the protagonist of the original film, dies at the end. Rose kills herself in front of the original film’s protagonist, so fans expected a sequel that would follow Joel’s story. Since the second film drastically changed the main cast, some fans are wondering about the franchise’s timeline. Fortunately, Smile 2 explains the connection between Rose Cotter and Skye Riley.

Skye becomes the host of the Smile Demon two cycles after Joel

Fans first see the end of Joel’s story

As mentioned, Smile 2 follows the main protagonist Skye Riley. Skye is a famous pop star who has been in recovery for a year. Not only is she struggling to stay sober after years of drug abuse, she is also recovering from a car accident that killed her boyfriend and left her seriously injured. Skye is preparing for a comeback tour, but she’s still struggling with the trauma of her boyfriend’s death and the physical pain left by her injuries. Skye’s large audience makes her the highest stakes host the Smile Demon has ever possessed.

“I’m really happy with the result:” The director of “Smile 2” explains the film’s brutal opening scene

Director Parker Finn wanted to do something special with the opening scene.

Fortunately, Smile 2 does a little legwork to connect the events of Smile (2022) and the sequel. Skye has no connection to Dr. Rose Cotter (Smile main protagonist) or the next host of the Smile Demon, Joel. Even though Skye doesn’t interact with them, the film still manages to set up a meaningful timeline.

What happened to Joel?

After Rose’s fiancé and her sister turn their backs on her, Rose goes to her ex-boyfriend Joel. Joel is a detective who manages to help Rose track down some of the Smile Demon’s victims before her. Joel does his best to help Rose, but unfortunately he watches Rose die at the end of the original Smile. Not only does he watch the love of his life die before his eyes; He also becomes the new host of the malicious entity.

Smile 2 does not focus on Joel as the main protagonist, but rather addresses what happened to him. The film begins with Joel driving through a small, quaint neighborhood. He looks stressed and anxious, suggesting that he has been suffering from the manipulation of the curse for almost a week and his time is running out. As he drives, he passes the image of a burning woman, likely one of the many tactics the Smile Demon uses to torment him.

“Best horror film of 2024”: Smile 2’s Rotten Tomatoes score beats the original film

The first Rotten Tomatoes score for “Smile 2” has been revealed.

Joel pulls up to a run-down house and watches as an expensive car pulls up into the driveway. Joel jumps at the man as he gets out of the car and holds a gun to the back of his head. Joel forces the stranger to take him inside, where they meet a second man sitting in a shabby living room. Joel calls them murderers who were never caught. Although he doesn’t elaborate on how he knows this, it’s safe to say he knew about the men thanks to his career in law enforcement.

Joel kills the man who let him into the house by stabbing him in the chest. The second man shoots Joel in the arm and Joel shoots back. Unfortunately, Joel lands a shot that kills the second man. Joel planned to kill himself in front of the dangerous drug dealer and hand over the Smile creature to him. After all, he is a bad person. At least Joel can make sure the next victim is someone deserving. Joel accidentally killing him ruined this plan.

After the confrontation, Joel realizes that he is not alone with the two men. A third person crept in, a young man named Lewis. Lewis was only there to buy drugs from the men. Joel apologizes to Lewis because he didn’t know anyone else would be there. He insisted that the demon was not meant for Lewis. Lewis doesn’t know what he means by that.

Joel’s death, explained

A close-up of Joel's face as he watches Rose die

Shortly after Joel finds Lewis, a group of men storm the dilapidated house. Joel has to escape through a window to escape the men. He runs across the yard when one of his pursuers leans out of the window through which he escaped. To avoid being shot, Joel runs into the street. At that moment, a large SUV crashes into Joel and turns left. The car drags Joel’s body across the road, leaving a large blood stain in the shape of a smile.

The scene is horrific. The longer the camera lingers on Joel’s remains, the more detail the audience can see. The car accident not only killed him, it tore his body apart. Joel’s blood smear becomes the main symbol for Smile 2 Logo, indicating that his death was just the prologue to a much larger story. Lewis must have witnessed Joel’s death because the Smile creature’s curse passed on to him.

Skye Riley’s connection to Lewis, explained

The short answer: Lewis is her drug dealer

Lewis begins to smile in an eerie manner in Smile 2.

Lewis has the misfortune of meeting Joel because he is trying to replenish his drug supply. Lewis is a drug dealer who shares a past with Skye Riley. He’s probably the one who used to supply her with hardcore drugs. Skye has been sober for a year but still struggles with severe pain, especially in her back. She was seriously injured in the car accident. The intensive rehearsals for her upcoming tour are causing her great pain. In the middle of training, she doubles over in pain and reaches for her back. She does this several times throughout the film.

However, because Skye has a history of substance abuse, her doctors refuse to prescribe her strong painkillers. To relieve her pain, she relies on over-the-counter medications, but they are not strong enough. Desperate for some pain relief so she can move forward with tour preparation, she turns to Lewis for help. She doesn’t want hard substances like cocaine, she just wants Vicodin.

“So many exciting places”: Smile 2 director teases the future of the horror franchise

Ahead of the debut of “Smile 2,” writer-director Parker Finn previews the possible future of Paramount Pictures’ hit supernatural horror franchise.

Skye visits Lewis’ apartment after her mother drops her off at her apartment complex. When Skye arrives, Lewis is manic and confused. He even attacks her when she gets there, clearly believing that she is a trick of the Smile Demon and not a real person. Lewis tries to get grounded long enough to give Skye the drugs she came for, but the Smile Demon sees his chance to adapt to a new host. Lewis ultimately kills himself in front of Skye and passes the curse on to her.

The first film features several other victims of the curse. Rose and Joel even manage to hunt down a survivor, a prison inmate. He tells them that the only way to save Rose’s life is for Rose to kill someone else. However, cycles become harder to track the further back they go, so we’ll stick with the most recent cycles.

“Smile 2” creates a phenomenal connection between the two films

Despite having two completely different casts, the sequel works

Smile 2 is an ambitious film that reinforces the influence of the Smile Demon. If Skye Riley falls victim to the curse, she risks dooming thousands of fans to a terrible fate. The film opens up a lot of potential for future installments, but shifting the focus to an entirely new group of characters was a risk.

Luckily, the film does a phenomenal job of giving fans a resolution to the original film. Joel’s death is connected to Lewis’ death, and Lewis’ death is the catalyst for Skye’s fight against the Smile Demon’s manipulation. Everything it took Smile 2 to make sense was a well thought out prologue.

The warming trend appears to be continuing this week

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Temperatures will rise back above normal in the coming days. At the end of the weekend we still have nice weather. That’s good news for local events like Boo at the Zoo and Feast on the Levee. Morning low temperatures will remain near normal through midweek, but daytime high temperatures will be several degrees above normal throughout the work/school week. While we don’t have 90° degrees in the forecast, the mid and upper 80s are still way too warm for late October.

FIRST ALARM PREDICTION: Sunday October 20th(WAFB)

The high pressure remains locally under control. This keeps the weather forecast warm and dry. Northerly winds will continue to bring low humidity and dry conditions. Fire weather concerns remain as we continue to experience mild drought conditions. Outside our region of southwest and northern Louisiana, drought conditions are more severe.

Viral video shows man reviving a snake

Viral video shows man reviving a snake

Have you ever seen a dead or dying snake and thought, maybe I can save this snake? I’m going to try cardiopulmonary resuscitation. NO? Well, a viral video from India shows a man trying to do just that. In fact, it seems his heroic (if eccentric) efforts actually worked.

Desh Gujarat reports that a young man, a “rescuer” named Yash Tadvi, rushed to the scene in Vadodara, India, after someone found a snake “in critical condition” and called for help. “Upon arrival, [Tadvi] found the snake seemingly lifeless but immediately began resuscitation.” Desh Gujarat Claims. “Remarkably, he managed to revive the snake.”

In the video, you can see Tadvi holding a lifeless snake, then wrapping his mouth around its head and starting to blow air into the snake’s body. Soon the snake starts wiggling around.

Watch a man revive a snake by performing mouth-to-mouth CPR here:

Is that real? Would that even work? We have so many questions.

Tadvi said, “The snake seemed to be dead, but when I held it, I felt that it was still alive. Then I started cardiopulmonary resuscitation. I felt immense relief and joy when the snake came back to life and I handed it over safely to the forest department.”

Bravo for this man Think Try CPR on a snake.

Georgia upset No. 1 Texas in a game marred by Longhorns fans throwing trash onto the field

Georgia upset No. 1 Texas in a game marred by Longhorns fans throwing trash onto the field

CNN

The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs defeated the No. 1 Texas Longhorns 30-15 on Saturday night in Austin as the Bulldogs ran back Trevor Etienne scored three touchdowns in a game marked by Texas fans throwing trash onto the field.

The incident began late in the third quarter when Texas trailed 23-8. The referees called a pass interference penalty that initially negated an interception and a 36-yard return by Longhorns safety Jahdae Barron that had brought the crowd to its feet.

Texas fans expressed their frustration with the call by throwing water bottles and other trash onto the field at the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium being cleaned up by cheerleaders and other team personnel.

After discussion, the referees reversed the decision and two plays later, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to the running back Jaydon Blue. The Longhorns were now down 23-15 after hitting the extra point.

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) said in a statement that officials were allowed to gather to discuss the game and that although the original call “was not properly carried out, it is unacceptable for debris to be thrown at any time.” “The incident will be reviewed by the agency that oversees the SEC’s “athletic policies and procedures,” the conference added.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart told reporters after the game that he feared the incident could set a “precedent.”

“I will not comment because I want to respect the wishes of the SEC office,” he said. “But I have to say, now we have a precedent: If you throw a lot of stuff on the field and endanger athletes, there’s a chance that the decision will be reversed, and that’s unfortunate because to me that’s dangerous.”

Texas was back in the game after Georgia scored 23-0 Halftime lead, the Bulldogs extended their lead when Etienne scored his third touchdown of the night in the fourth.

Bulldogs running back Trevor Etienne ran for three touchdowns during the game.

According to the AP, citing sports technology and betting company Sportradar, Texas’ 15-point loss was the biggest defeat for a team ranked No. 1 at home since 1982.

This also ended the Longhorns’ perfect record, falling to 6-1. There are now no undefeated teams in the SEC, marking the first time since 2007 that every team in the conference has lost a game before the end of October, according to ESPN Research.

“Unfortunately we didn’t play our best football tonight, but we were still competitive,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian told reporters afterward. “Hopefully we can get another blow against them, they are a good football team… The beauty of this format is that losing a game like this doesn’t kill us, everything we want is still ahead of us.” The challenge for Our goal is to regroup.”

Texas will do it probably lose their top spot in the AP poll after the loss and may be replaced by the Oregon Ducks or maybe even Georgia.

Nic Nemeth [Dolph Ziggler] Reflects the legendary WWE Money in the Bank cash-in

Nic Nemeth [Dolph Ziggler] Reflects the legendary WWE Money in the Bank cash-in

Nic Nemeth, formerly known as Dolph Ziggler, has thanked WWE fans for his cash-in at Money In The Bank 2013.

At Slammiversary in July, Nic Nemeth was crowned TNA World Champion for the first time after defeating five other men in an elimination match. Since then, the star has successfully defended the gold medal against the likes of Mustafa Ali, Moose and Josh Alexander.

This isn’t the first time Nemeth has held a world title, however, as he became a two-time World Heavyweight Champion in the WWE under the name Dolph Ziggler over a decade ago. His first reign lasted just a week in 2011 and came about under strange circumstances. Adam Copeland seemingly defeated the star with a spear, but then-GM Vickie Guerrero deemed the move illegal and awarded the gold to Ziggler instead.

However, Nemeth’s second reign was more legitimate. The star won the Money In The Bank briefcase in the 2012 edition of the multi-man ladder match. He then went on a losing streak, but ultimately won when he beat Alberto Del Rio to great applause from the fans.

Nemeth reflected on the memorable win during an appearance on Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw and thanked fans for making the achievement happen in the first place.

“The reason for this reaction and this moment was 100% the fans. For example, back then I was the guy with the briefcase who was always trying to make money – getting kicked in the face or something.

“It got to a point where they thought they were either going to take it away from me or, when I wanted to cash in, that I wasn’t going to get it. I would lose the match or something. But the reason why the crowd was so big in advance was Vince.

“He said, ‘Listen, I know you’re losing a lot’ -[I’m like] About 99% of the time – but he says, “I know you’re losing a lot, and now with this briefcase you’re going to lose even more, and it’s going to be a bigger deal.” But the next day, after you finally cash that in, everything changes.” So we did that, kept it [losing] more and more.”

“I’ve never heard anything like that” – Nic Nemeth aka. Dolph Ziggler on the crowd’s reaction to money in the bank deposit

When Nemeth actually cashed in, he was shocked at how well the moment was received, saying he had never heard anything like the ovation he received for his win.

“[I] finally cashed in. I was like, ‘Man, I hope people are into it.’ They seem kind of lively and fun.’ I’ll never forget my music hit – it had a two second delay – and it’s like a stab all over my body.

“I said, ‘Whoa! what’, and I still had to stay focused and be in the moment, go there to do it. But I’ve never personally heard anything like that.

“It was because they stuck with the guy who kept losing and failing to make money. They said, ‘Okay, we’re going to help this guy,’ and they did. We got it and they lost their minds. It was so much fun.”

Nic Nemeth’s next defense will be defending the TNA World Title against Joe Hendry at Bound For Glory on October 26th.
