Gary Woodland’s 65 put him in contention at the Shriners Children’s Open

Gary Woodland’s 65 put him in contention at the Shriners Children’s Open

LAS VEGAS – Former U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland completed 54 holes of the wind-delayed Shriners Children’s Open knowing he will have his best chance to win since brain surgery more than a year ago. Best of all, Saturday was coming to an end.

Woodland had three birdies on his final six holes and extended his bogey-free streak to 28 holes by posting a 6-under 65 that gave him a share of the clubhouse lead over Las Vegas-based Kurt Kitayama, who also scored a 65.

They were one shot behind JT Poston and Doug Ghim when play was suspended due to darkness. Thirty of the 66 players who made it the previous Saturday failed to finish.

Poston had an eagle in the final portion of the second round for a 65, and his only subpar hole in the third round was an eagle on the par-5 ninth. That put him at 15 under par through 13 holes. Also at 15 under was Ghim, who had four straight birdies and faced a 5-foot par putt on the 17th hole when it was too dark to continue.

Woodland underwent surgery in September 2023 to remove a lesion in his brain that was located in a tract that was causing fear and anxiety. It was a long road as he progressed health-wise, familiarized himself with the proper medications and tried to get his game in order.

He also returned to Randy Smith, the PGA Hall of Fame swing coach in Dallas. Now Woodland feels the pieces coming back together.

“I feel a lot better,” Woodland said. “This is a big help. But I have seen some signs. I’ve been back together with Randy Smith for a few months now. I’m starting to drive it better, play irons and control the golf ball in a way I haven’t in a long time, which is nice. Then the putts start and start to produce some good results.

“I’m excited and happy to be here – and really happy to be finished tonight so I can get some sleep tomorrow.”

The third round was scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. local time, with Woodland expected to begin around 11 a.m. It’s better than getting up before dawn, which he’s had to do twice this week.

The next step is to determine where it stands.

Harris English and Alejandro Tosti of Argentina were also at 14 under with four holes to play, including the reachable par 4 and the easiest of the three par 5s. Six other players were under 13 and still had holes to play.

Winds have calmed significantly since Friday, when gusts reached speeds of nearly 50 miles per hour, causing a four-hour delay that caused stop-and-start and the last two days to be suspended due to darkness. A TPC-Summerlin course that was all about perseverance is now once again a test of who can make the most birdies.

“The conditions will be pretty simple. I think you saw that in some of the results,” Poston said. “Guys are making birdies. I think it’s just a matter of staying aggressive but also staying patient if the putts don’t fall too early because there are still a lot of holes left.”

The second round didn’t end until midday Saturday and the average was 3-under 139. Among those who didn’t make the cut was Tom Kim, the two-time defending champion, who was trying to become the first player since Steve Stricker in the John Deere Classic (2009- 11) won the same PGA Tour event three years in a row.

Also missed were the three FedEx Cup fall winners – Patton Kizzire, Kevin Yu and Matt McCarty.

Aiken YMCA is hosting a free trick-or-treating event for children

AIKEN, SC. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Aiken YMCA hosted its annual Trick-or-Treat on the Trails event Saturday.

It’s one of the many Halloween activities that will take place over the next few weeks.

It typically helps raise funds for the YMCA’s programs, including “A Place to Dream.”

Organizers say they typically see 800 to 1,000 children at the event and had a large turnout this year.

But this year the organizer made it free with the aim of helping the community.

“We opened our place to the community and saw how much they were struggling. We decided to make it a free event,” said executive director Samantha Whittaker. “Above all, we wanted this time to be normal for the children.”

She said the path was damaged but was cleaned by volunteers.

On Sunday, the North Augusta YMCA will host a Trunk or Treat from 6 to 8 p.m

Next week, Community centers in Augusta host Halloween events with candy, fun and more.

  • End of third quarter: Georgia 23, Texas 15

The Bulldogs are on the move and looking for a rebuttal. Carson Beck hit Oscar Delp for a 43-yard gain, just after another big chunk play, and Georgia finds itself near the red zone.

  • Touchdown Texas!

The Longhorns are in the end zone after Quinn Ewers finds Jaydon Blue out of the backfield for a 17-yard score.

What a wild turn of events in Austin!

  • After a lengthy discussion, the officials take down the flag

In a bizarre moment after Texas fans rained water bottles onto the field, officials huddled together and decided it wasn’t pass interference after all.

Upon return, the Longhorns will have the ball at the Georgia 9-yard line.

  • Big Texas INT called back

The Longhorns had a pick and a long interception return on that play that was negated by a defensive pass interference call, and Texas fans are not happy about it.

Georgia’s defense remains strong on the edge of the red zone as Texas QB Quinn Ewers misfires on fourth-and-6. The Bulldogs will have it back at their own 30-yard line.

  • The Longhorns got out of the shadow of their own goal post with a deep ball from Quinn Ewers to Matthew Golden.

  • Landing at Iowa State

  • Touchdown Texas!

Quinn Ewers caps an eight-play, 55-yard drive with a short TD throw to Isaiah Bond.

After a two-point conversion from Ewers to Bond, the score is 23-8.

  • Quinn Ewers is back as QB for Texas

We’re back in the second half and the Longhorns are on the move. They are now past midfield.

    Ewers is back at quarterback.

  • LSU touchdown

The Tigers took a 24-10 lead shortly after that tip-ball interception by Whit Weeks.

  • Halftime: Georgia 23, Texas 0

The Bulldogs go for another field goal at the end of the first half.

Texas has 38 total yards so far. Georgia’s Jalon Walker has 7 tackles, 3 sacks and 2 QB hurries.

  • Fumble recovered by Georgia!

Now Arch Manning fumbles the ball after being hit in the backfield and Georgia’s Jaylon Walker grabs the ball.

The Bulldogs have another short field to work with.

  • With less than two minutes left in the first half, Texas got the ball back at their own 20.

Arch is still in the game at QB.

  • UCF takes the lead over Iowa State

The Golden Knights just took the lead over No. 9 Iowa State with a pick 6 from UCF’s Brandon Adams.

There is just over a minute left in the first half.

  • Arch Manning replaces Quinn Ewers

Looking for a spark, Steve Sarkisian turned to backup QB Arch Manning. But the Longhorns also couldn’t move the ball much with him under center and have to pass it back to the Bulldogs.

There are just over 2 minutes left in the half.

  • Georgia adds FG

The Bulldogs get three more points after a short drive.

    It’s 20-0.

  • Georgia touchdown!

Just like that, it’s 17-0. And again it’s Trevor Etienne stretching to the goal line after a 15-yard run.

So far in Austin it’s only been Bulldogs.

In the caption to her followers, she said: “Chelsea is in the news today – this is a photo from a better time – here is the family comment:

The longtime comedian added a broken heart emoji and “#love #alanon 10/19/24.”

Chelsea was charged with four felonies: operating a drug trafficking operation, child neglect, possession of meth and possession of THC.

Police were called to her home in Marinette, Wisconsin by Chelsea herself on September 10, court documents obtained by In Touch revealed.

Emergency dispatchers reported hearing an argument in the background and a woman telling someone to “get the fuck away from her.”

When police arrived, Chelsea reportedly tried to downplay the situation and insisted everything was fine, before later admitting that she and boyfriend Jacob Nelund had gotten into an argument.

“I tried to ask her more questions and you could tell Chelsea wasn’t being honest at all. “This was a repeat of what happened a few weeks earlier when I was at her house for a similar incident,” a police officer wrote in a report.

Among the items in her home, officers found a meth pipe with residue inside.

A box of hypodermic needles was allegedly found in the child’s room.

Did Arch Manning play today? Updated stats and more to know as Quinn Ewers takes on Georgia

Did Arch Manning play today? Updated stats and more to know as Quinn Ewers takes on Georgia

No. 1 Texas begins Saturday and faces its biggest test yet as No. 5 Georgia travels to Austin to face the Longhorns. Texas is currently undefeated at 6-0, while the Bulldogs are 5-1 with their only loss coming against No. 7 Alabama.

Arch Manning is preparing for his highest-profile regular-season game in college, even though he may not see the field. The sophomore, who started two games this season, returned to backup status last week as Texas defeated Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.

A win on Saturday would further solidify Texas’ status in the SEC, as the Longhorns are currently the conference’s only undefeated team.

NCAAF Headquarters: Live NCAAF Results | Updated NCAAF Rankings | Complete NCAAF schedule

Did Arch Manning play today?

Manning replaced Quinn Ewers in the second quarter of Texas’ game against Georgia on Saturday night. Ewers did not appear to be injured, so Manning was apparently benched.

The decision was made by Steve Sarkisian when the Longhorns were down 20-0 at home. Ewers was 6 of 12 for just 17 yards and an interception before Manning came in.

Manning didn’t draw much attention on his first drive, completing only one of his four passes, with Texas’ only first down coming as a result of a penalty. He finished the half but was replaced by Ewers early in the third quarter as Sarkisian looked for answers he could find offensively.

Arch Manning season stats

Here are Manning’s numbers before Saturday’s game.

  • Completions/attempts: 55/78
  • Degree of completion: 70.5%
  • Overtaking places: 901
  • Passing touchdowns: 9
  • Interceptions: 2
  • Rushing yards: 82
  • Rushing touchdowns: 3

Manning’s stats remain the same as last week as he has not appeared in a game since September 28th. In his two starts, Manning totaled 583 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions, leading the Longhorns to two easy victories.

Texas QB depth chart

rank name
1. Quinn Ewers
2. Arch Manning
3. Trey Owens

1. Quinn Ewers

Ewers missed two games with an oblique injury but regained his starting spot last week despite Manning’s play. In a game in which Texas ran for 177 yards and three touchdowns and the Longhorns’ defense held Oklahoma to three points, Ewers only had to throw for 199 yards and a touchdown for the win. On Saturday night, Ewers will likely have to have a big game for Texas to score against Georgia’s very strong defense.

In four games, Ewers has 890 passing yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions as Texas has won every game by at least 19 points this year.

2. Arch Manning

Against Oklahoma, Manning didn’t play a snap for the second time this year, as he appeared in four of Texas’ first five games of the season. Expect more of the same on Saturday, as Georgia and Texas are expected to deliver a close game that will keep Manning on the sidelines barring another Ewers injury.

3. Trey Owens

This season, Owens has played in just one game, totaling 19 pass yards on two attempts. The freshman will be an option for a redshirt season as long as both Ewers and Manning stay healthy this year.

Watch Wisconsin’s football coordinator jump into Lake Michigan after his win

Watch Wisconsin’s football coordinator jump into Lake Michigan after his win

play

(This story has been updated to add more information)

EVANSTON, ILLINOIS – Brady Collins kept his word.

The Wisconsin football team’s strength and conditioning coordinator said if the Badgers beat Northwestern on Saturday, he would jump into Lake Michigan.

After Wisconsin defeated the Wildcats 23-3 on Saturday to improve to 5-2, Collins did just that.

“I loved it,” said safety hunter Wohler. “This is Coach Brady. He brings that energy and juice every day. He told us during the week, ‘If we win, I’ll jump into the lake,’ and he kept his promise.”

As his team walked along the shores of Lake Michigan in front of the Lanny and Sharon Martin track and field facility, which will be the temporary home of the Northwestern football team for the next two years while the new Ryan Field is built, Collins took a slight detour.

He climbed down a steep rocky slope to get to the water.

His players could be heard encouraging him in a video posted to the official Badgers Football Twitter account.

However, it didn’t seem like he needed much convincing. After finding a spot he liked and probably the safest around the rocks, he took the plunge.

“Coach Brady, he’s the foundation of everything we do, especially in the weight room,” quarterback Braedyn Locke said. “He brings energy and intensity every day.” We all love Coach Brady and he loves us all.

Collins waved his arms in the water to get his players excited in front of the crowd. The players then burst into cheers.

The mood right now is good for the Badgers, who won their third straight game on Saturday and have outscored their last three opponents by a combined score of 114-16.
