After an even cooler start Friday morning, temperatures will gradually warm up over the weekend. Expect near-average conditions in mid-October with lows in the 50s and highs in the low 80s.

Today and tonight: You’ll be reaching for a jacket again early Friday as temperatures dip into the low 40s across the region and even top 30s near the LA-MS state line. With mostly clear skies, you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of the full Hunter’s Moon during the early morning drive until it sets around 8:30 a.m. On Friday there will be mostly sunny skies with some high clouds. Temperatures this afternoon will be several degrees higher than Thursday, near 79° in Baton Rouge. Winds today will be light from the northeast at 5 to 10 miles per hour and there will continue to be no humidity or rain.

If you have Friday night plans or are going to a high school football game, you’ll want to have a jacket handy. Once the sun sets at 6:29 p.m. tonight, temperatures will drop quickly. It will be a very fall evening in Louisiana with temperatures in the low 60s by 10 p.m. By daybreak Saturday, conditions will cool another 10 degrees, to the low 50s.

Next: This weekend will be very pleasant for outdoor activities, although a light jacket may be necessary in the early morning and evening. Each day begins with temperatures in the low 50s and full sunshine each afternoon brings warmer temperatures into the low 80s. There will be no showers to avoid and the humidity will remain comfortable throughout the weekend. The gradual weakening of temperatures will continue through early next week, with highs reaching the mid-80s. There are some signs that high clouds will spread into the sky from midweek, potentially limiting further warming. However, there is no sign of rain in Storm Station’s 7-day forecast.

Breakdown and prediction for Mississippi State football vs. Texas A&M

Breakdown and prediction for Mississippi State football vs. Texas A&M

Mississippi State football (1-5, 0-3 SEC) hosts #14 Texas A&M (5-1, 3-0) this Saturday in Starkville. It’s a big home game for the Bulldogs, who are looking to end their losing streak with a big upset and kick off a strong finish to the 2024 season. But is this realistic for MSU? Let’s take a look at the Aggies and make a final prediction for the match…

Mike Elko knows how to coach defense, and his Aggies are strong on that side of the ball in his first season. In three conference games, A&M is allowing just 311 yards and fewer than 16 points per game. It starts at the beginning with one of the best D-lines in the country. Nic Scourton has 4.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss at the rim, and Shemar Turner is a force on the inside. If you can combine a great front with a strong secondary, you’re in great shape, and A&M offers tight coverage on the back end as well. Moving the ball against this group will be an arduous task.

Texas A&M has had some ups and downs on offense so far this season. Le’Veon Moss has been outstanding in the backfield with over 600 yards and six touchdowns, but his OL doesn’t have much offense in front of him on a regular basis. The passing game led by Conner Weigman was also quite inconsistent. But what helped the Aggies was their ability to achieve big things. They’ve completed 19 plays of 20-plus yards in three SEC games, and that’s been crucial for them when it comes to putting points on the board. It’s been a struggle for the MSU defense to prevent big plays, but they’ll have to do it against A&M.

Mississippi State is playing better football right now. There’s expected to be a good atmosphere at Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday, and for many years Texas A&M would be exactly the type of opponent I’d say they’d be willing to upset. But I think the Aggies are a bad pairing. I think MSU will struggle to hold its own against A&M’s defensive front and won’t have the big play opportunities it had last week. And the Bulldog defense has shown no reason to believe it will slow an opposing offense. I think the Aggies will win comfortably.

Mississippi State loses 37-19

I trolled my dad and tricked him into sending me money for weeks

I trolled my dad and tricked him into sending me money for weeks

There are different ways to get your parents to give you money, and for Chidi* it turns out catfishing is one of them.

The 23-year-old talks about discovering his father’s feminine side and why pretending to be a woman was the perfect punishment for his father’s actions.

As told to Boluwatife

You should know two things about my father: He’s an unrepentant womanizer and as stingy as they come.

I only found out about womanization a few years ago, but that stingy part? I always knew that from my father. More specifically, I knew that my father was often hesitant to spend money, but I thought it was because he didn’t have much of it. That wasn’t exactly a far-fetched idea, considering he’s a civil engineer with a wife and six children to support.

In addition, he was hardly there because he was working on one construction site or another. I assumed he had to constantly make an effort to care for us.

It became increasingly clear to me that it was no coincidence that I received money from my father; it required serious planning. Several times I saw my mother sitting across from my father at the dinner table and discussing things after we (the children) had cleared the plates.

These discussions often centered around money—how much she needed to pay a bill and why exactly the bill was necessary. It was like a budget presentation and approval meeting. My father wouldn’t drop anything if she didn’t “defend” her needs well enough.

I remember in 2015 I almost missed the deadline to pay my WAEC registration fee because I accidentally gave him two different dates as the payment deadline. He assumed I had lied about the money and refused to pay until my teacher visited him.

The university was no better. My father never answered my calls, just in case there was money involved. He only replied to my text to let me know when he had sent me the usual £5,000 he sent once or twice a month. I didn’t think much about his attitude because it wasn’t strange – the whole family knew he hated spending money. But in my senior year I made an interesting discovery.

My university was in the same condition as my family home, but I hardly went home because the distance between home and school was too great to visit regularly with my meager pocket money. However, one day in 2022, I left school to attend a party at a nightclub not far from home and surprisingly met my father at the same nightclub.

Luckily he didn’t see me, but I had a good view of him from my seat on the other side of the club. This man danced with a hot babe and held her like his life depended on it.

I couldn’t tell my mother what I had seen because I was afraid there would be problems at home. But I had to tell someone, so I called my younger sister instead, and that’s when I realized I was the least informed person in my family.

Apparently my father had a penchant for pursuing everything in skirts. My sister was still in high school, so she lived at home and had direct access to the books my mother repeatedly accused my father of spending all his money on different women. The times he wasn’t home that I thought were due to hustling? Oga actually enjoyed his life with women.

From what my sister told me, I realized that womanizing had always existed, but my mother never made a secret of it. I think she thought he would grow out of it, but had no choice but to complain loudly when he continued after almost all of the children were grown and out of the house.

I was quite disappointed to find out about my father. This man struggled to support his own family but spent his money generously on his girlfriends. I know how often my mother had to take out loans to finance her grocery business when we were younger. I was angry, but I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t confront him and risk losing financial support for the school.

But then, a few months later, I found an opportunity to take revenge on my father.

I don’t remember what I did on Facebook that day, but I unexpectedly found my father’s second Facebook profile. I say second because he already had one that we all knew about. This new profile only contained his middle name and a shortened version of his last name, but from the profile picture I was sure it was him.

My friend Ada* was in my dorm room that day and I showed her the profile and complained that my dad had probably created a secret Facebook account to trick women into thinking he was single.

Ada jokingly suggested opening a fake account to trick him, and what started as a joke quickly became true. I opened a new account, pretended to be a girl, and uploaded Ada’s pictures to make my claim realistic. I sent my dad a friend request, and when I woke up the next day, he had accepted it.

The next week I was in a “talking phase” with my dad – of course he thought it was a great baby. Whenever he asked for pictures or video calls, Ada would take over. The second week I started billing him. Surprise, surprise, he sent money. The first amount my father sent was ₦50,000. He had never given me £50,000 before as his actual child. I shared the money equally with Ada.

The scam lasted three weeks and my father sent a total of ₦250,000 to his “mystery wife”. The amount was so high because I asked him to send £100,000 for the supposed plane ticket to bring his baby to our city so they could finally meet.

Ada and I had claimed that the “baby” was a university student in another part of the country, which is why we were able to extend the meeting to three weeks. The “baby” was supposed to travel to our state during the semester break and meet with my father. Of course, we blocked him immediately afterwards and shared the money.

After we blocked him, I called my sister and tried to get a feel for how things were at home, but she said everything was fine. My father didn’t act as if anything strange had happened and just carried on as normal.

Of course he had to carry on as normal. How do you tell your wife, “My online girlfriend cheated on me”? It was the perfect punishment and I don’t feel bad at all. I would do it again if I had the chance.

That was over a year ago, but I still secretly smile when I see my dad. I’m tempted to tell him that I’m his “online girlfriend” one day, but I’ll keep that a secret for a little longer.

What we know so far about his death

What we know so far about his death

Liam Payne died on Wednesday in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires

Former One Direction star Liam Payne died on Wednesday at the age of 31 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after falling from a balcony.

Many details surrounding the British singer’s death are still unclear, but information from emergency services and other authorities has begun to build a picture of events.

Payne was a global star and part of the popular boy band formed in 2010 on the TV show The X Factor.

His bandmates have published a number of warm statementsThey said they were “completely devastated” by his death.

Why was Liam in Argentina?

Payne was staying in a hotel in the posh Palermo district of the Argentine capital.

According to staff, he had been at the hotel for two or three days and was in the country visiting his former bandmate Niall Horan.

Horan was on tour in Argentina and the pair had been friendly since One Direction’s split in 2016.

Payne posted on Snapchat earlier this month that he was visiting Horan for a chat, saying: “It’s been a while since me and Niall have spoken, we have a lot to talk about.”

He added: “No bad vibes or anything, but we need to talk.”

Payne attended the show and re-posted social media videos of himself and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy singing and dancing at the concert.

We also know that the pop star had visited a friend’s house in Argentina in the days before his death, again with Cassidy.

But by the time Payne fell to his death on Wednesday, Cassidy had already left the country.

What happened on Wednesday?

It was Payne He documents much of his journey on Snapchatincluding pictures of food, plans to play polo and jokes about his hair.

But none of his posts mentioned the Hotel CasaSur, where he had stayed shortly before his death.

We understand that hotel staff made an emergency call around 5:00 p.m. local time (9:00 p.m. CET) on Wednesday asking them to help a hotel guest “overwhelmed by drugs and alcohol” and “destroying his room.” . .

“I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger. But he has a room with a balcony and we’re a little worried that he might do something life-threatening,” the hotel’s front desk manager said in a second call.

Payne’s room was on the third floor and had a balcony about 14 m (45 feet) above a courtyard.

It is believed he fell from the balcony at around 5:07 p.m. local time.

The police arrived a few minutes later. Hotel staff told them that a loud noise was heard in the courtyard where Payne’s body was discovered.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and rescue workers said there was “no possibility of resuscitation.”

Was there an autopsy?

Payne’s body was removed from the hotel at around 8:30 p.m. local time and an autopsy was performed that evening.

It found that he had suffered “multiple traumas” and “internal and external bleeding,” according to the prosecutor’s office.

A preliminary report said he had 25 injuries “attributable to a fall from a height.”

It also added that he may have been fully or partially unconscious when he fell.

It remains to be determined whether there was alcohol or drugs in Payne’s system at the time of death.

Authorities also interviewed five witnesses to reconstruct Payne’s final hours, including three hotel employees and two women who had been with the singer but left the hotel before his death.

The investigators also want to determine “possible involvement of third parties in the events before the victim’s death.”

What was his hotel room like?

Hotel staff emphasized in the 911 call that Payne “destroyed his room,” and police said they found the room in “complete disarray.”

A bottle of whiskey, a lighter, a passport and a cell phone were found.

There were said to be “various broken items” in the room and medications were found, including the anxiety medication clonazepam and other over-the-counter medications.

Evidence and fingerprints were also collected and analyzed in a laboratory.

Local media also published images purportedly from his room showing a television with a broken screen, several bottles, cans, candles, aluminum foil and a half-full glass of champagne.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, substances that appeared to be “narcotics and alcoholic beverages” were found in the room, and pieces of furniture and other objects were broken.

What happens next?

Payne’s death is being treated as suspicious by prosecutors, meaning more needs to be determined about what happened before his death and who he was in contact with.

A toxicology report has also yet to be released and will determine whether he drank alcohol and used drugs before his death.

Police have also seized the star’s laptop and phone, which could provide evidence and eyewitness accounts could help determine what led to his death.

First Liberty Calls on US Supreme Court and Court of Appeals to Uphold Religious Freedom – News

First Liberty Calls on US Supreme Court and Court of Appeals to Uphold Religious Freedom – News

by Jorge Gomez • 4 minutes

This week, First Liberty filed friend-of-the-court briefs in two important cases pending before the U.S. Supreme Court and the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Parental Rights: Choose the religious upbringing of their children

The Supreme Court agreed to a hearing United States v. Skrmettia case involving a Tennessee law that prohibits health care providers from performing sex reassignment surgery or administering hormones or puberty blockers to minors. The key question is whether this law violates the U.S. Constitution, particularly the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

The teenagers who challenged Tennessee’s law won in part in district court. The judge put on hold the state’s ban on hormone therapy and puberty blockers, but not the ban on gender reassignment surgery, because the teenagers were not candidates for such surgeries. But then the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned that decision and upheld the law as constitutional. The 6th Circuit ruling rejected recognition of a new constitutional right in the area of sex reassignment procedures.

Although the case is not specifically about religious freedom or the First Amendment, the outcome could impact Americans with deeply held religious beliefs about sex and gender.

We filed the petition on behalf of Abigail Martinez, a Christian mother in California whose young daughter, Yaeli, was beginning to question her sexuality. The teenager struggled with severe depression for years and an older transgender friend told her the only way to be happy was to change gender. School staff encouraged her to secretly join the LGBTQ club and hide it from her mother. The school psychologist recommended that she change gender instead of treating her depression.

Abigail tried to advocate for Yaeli to receive mental health treatment through the school, but school staff turned her away. In 2016, the state abducted Yaeli from her home. At age 19, Yaeli’s depression had not been resolved by the transition attempt. Her pain was too deep and the hormone treatment made it worse. Yaeli eventually committed suicide.

The government’s intervention in Yaeli’s life against her mother’s wishes denied Abigail the opportunity to treat her daughter’s mental health and save her life.

The families who challenged Tennessee’s law say it violates their parental rights. But as the appeals court noted, there is no deep-rooted tradition supporting the right of parents to reasonably prohibited medical treatments for children.

Our submission argues that Tennessee law does not violate parents’ rights but rather strengthens existing protections the Constitution upholds, such as the right of parents to raise their children consistent with their religious beliefs.

As we emphasize in our letter, “There is perhaps no right more deeply rooted in our nation’s history and tradition than the right of parents to direct the religious upbringing of their children.”

“This is especially true for religious parents like Abigail Martinez,” the letter said. “If her state had passed SB1, she likely would never have lost custody of Yaeli, government officials would not have been able to order gender reassignment treatments over her objections, and her beloved daughter would likely still be alive today.”

The government cannot force Americans to express messages that go against their beliefs

First Liberty also filed an amicus brief State of Kansas v. U.S. Department of Educationa case pending before the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The state of Kansas joins three other states and private parent, student and student-athlete groups in objecting to a Biden-Harris administration rule that seeks to rewrite Title IX to include “gender identity” in the federal definition of “sex.” .”

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a civil rights law that protects students from discrimination based on sex in educational programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. It was written into law to provide equal opportunities and treatment for female athletes in sports from elementary school through college.

We filed the amicus brief on behalf of 30 scholars who raise concerns that the Biden-Harris administration’s rule forces schoolchildren to use other students’ preferred pronouns or risk investigation or discipline. According to the new regulation, school children are not allowed to simply remain silent. This government wants to force them to affirm preferred pronouns, even if it violates their beliefs and forces them to lie.

“They could either reveal themselves as heretical dissenters from gender ideology, betray their religious beliefs by agreeing to use preferred pronouns, or face punishment for their silence,” the letter said.

We declare that the outcome of this case impacts freedom of religion, freedom of expression and freedom of silence – which includes the right not to express messages that are contrary to one’s religious beliefs or beliefs.

“It would be surprising and inappropriate for America’s tradition of civil liberties under the law,” the opinion concludes, “for this court to authorize a government agency to force schoolchildren to use certain pronouns in reference to a specific person, rather than them “I am free to remain silent on this matter.”

Miami legend Uncle Luke regains copyright to 2 Live Crew’s music – NBC 6 South Florida

Miami legend Uncle Luke regains copyright to 2 Live Crew’s music – NBC 6 South Florida

Rap legend Uncle Luke is celebrating a victory in a Miami federal court that awarded him copyright to the music he made as part of the group 2 Live Crew.

Luther Campbell, better known as Uncle Luke, lost ownership of the music catalog decades ago due to bankruptcy.

He won it back in court on Wednesday, and now the songs that caused a stir in the late 1980s and 1990s are back in the hands of their creator for the first time in more than 30 years.

“I was still thinking: Did we win? Did we just win? Did we get our copyrights back?” Luke told NBC6 in disbelief.

Joe Weinberger, owner of the hip-hop label Lil’ Joe Records and Luke’s former lawyer, bought the entire catalog in 1995 in the wake of bankruptcy.

Campbell filed a lawsuit against the label in 2022 when U.S. copyright law allowed ownership of a work to revert to its creator after 35 years. A federal jury decided Wednesday that the music should return to Luke.

“Artists like me can go and reclaim their copyrights when, in my opinion, they have been illegally taken away from us,” he said.

The rapper showed NBC6 several awards he has received for music over the years. But for the most part, the profits made from music were not his property.

“Hearing a song on the radio with your voice, a sample of your music, and you don’t get paid a cent for it, just imagine that. “This is disgusting,” he said. “If people try the music now, the right people can benefit from it.”

Luke’s son and the children of late members Brother Marquis, née Mark Ross, and Fresh Kid Ice, née Chris Won, will benefit from their fathers’ songs.

“You know it means a lot. It means the world. I look at Chris and Mark’s children and my son – that’s their parents’ work. It’s bigger than us, it’s more about the kids,” Luke said.

2 Live Crew is no stranger to controversy or major court case: They’re the ones who brought a free speech case to the U.S. Supreme Court that led to parental advisory stickers on albums.

Chris Christie joins Brian Kahn’s defense in investigation into failed fund

Chris Christie joins Brian Kahn’s defense in investigation into failed fund

(Bloomberg) — Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is helping defend Brian Kahn, a former major client of B. Riley Financial Inc., in an ongoing criminal investigation into the collapse of hedge fund Prophecy Asset Management.

Christie, who once served as a U.S. attorney in New Jersey and later ran for president, has met with prosecutors who are nearing a decision on whether to prosecute Kahn over the fund’s failure, according to people familiar with the matter to be charged in 2020. Kahn worked as an asset manager at Prophecy. Chris Porrino, a former attorney general in New Jersey, is also defending him, said the people, who asked not to be identified speaking privately.

Prosecutors have convened a grand jury in Newark, New Jersey, to gather evidence and consider additional criminal charges related to the Prophecy case. Prophecy co-founder John Hughes pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit securities fraud last November and is cooperating with investigators, court records show. The confidential proceedings could end without charges being filed.

As Bloomberg reported, prosecutors at their trial described Kahn as an unindicted co-conspirator in their case against Hughes. Kahn, the former CEO of Franchise Group Inc., has not been charged and has categorically denied wrongdoing.

Still, his role as money manager for Prophecy has led to accusations from some investors that he improperly used the hedge fund to gain control of Franchise Group (FRG). Kahn also worked with B. Riley on its $2.8 billion acquisition of FRG in August 2023. That deal has since resulted in massive writedowns and a falling stock price for B. Riley.

Neither Kahn nor Christie, who now runs a consulting and crisis management firm, responded to requests for comment. Porrino declined to comment. A spokesman for U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger, an attorney for Hughes and a BRD representative also did not respond to requests for comment. A spokesman for Los Angeles-based B. Riley declined to comment.

In Germany there are retailers such as Vitamin Shoppe and Pet Supplies Plus. B. Riley helped Kahn finance the Management LED buyout of FRG last year. The takeover made FRG one of B. Riley’s key holdings, but poor performance has led to talks of debt restructuring with FRG’s lenders, and B. Riley has said the company will face write-downs of up to £370 million US dollars. B. Riley now wants to sell assets to strengthen his own finances.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating whether B. Riley gave investors an accurate picture of its financial condition and is seeking information about interactions between co-founder Bryant Riley and Kahn.

Bryant Riley said an internal investigation cleared him of wrongdoing. In August, he told investors that he expected the SEC to conclude “that we had no involvement in or knowledge of any alleged misconduct involving Brian Kahn or its affiliates.”

The Prophecy case involves a fund that promised a low-risk opportunity to invest with a number of investment advisors who would provide collateral to protect against losses. Bloomberg reported that Kahn was one of those asset managers. According to the SEC and criminal proceedings against Hughes, who pleaded guilty to a $294 million securities fraud conspiracy, Kahn allegedly racked up “massive” trading losses that Prophecy failed to disclose to investors.

Some investors filed a lawsuit in 2020, claiming that Kahn took their money to help underwrite FRG. Kahn, who resigned as FRG CEO in January, agreed to return more than $200 million to investors, including cash and shares in Franchise Group, Bloomberg reported.

Prosecutors say Prophecy once managed $360 million in assets and Kahn was awarded 86% of it. Kahn, referred to by the Justice Department in court filings as “Co-Conspirator 2,” allegedly covered his losses by using fabricated and forged documents, sources said.

That’s not true, Kahn said. “At no time during my previous relationship with Prophecy did I know that Prophecy or its principals were allegedly defrauding their investors, nor did I conspire to commit any fraud,” he said in a November statement.
