Tips, odds and predictions for Gameweek 6

Tips, odds and predictions for Gameweek 6

This article is part of our Soccer Picks series.

The schedule for the rest of the season is being determined. After the UEFA Europa League got its own week last week, that will change in the future. In addition, the Conference League also starts next week. After this weekend, the UEFA competition is in full swing, while the EFL Cup is still ongoing and the round of 16 takes place at the end of October.

Sometimes rest can be helpful for the weaker teams and can give you an advantage when betting. Sometimes.

Want more Premier League betting? Check out Kits & Wagers, a weekly betting show where Adam and Chris Owen offer six bets from six different games. Adam also has his own Corners & Wagers show where he only talks about corners.

Record: 7-6. $140 more on $100 bets.

EPL Best Bets for Crystal Palace at Everton

2-3 goals between Everton and Crystal Palace +100

Premier League goal tape betting can be found at DraftKings Sportsbook. If you need to log in, click through our DraftKings promo code Deposit bonus page.

This feels similar to recent games in the Premier League, where two slightly weak, mediocre teams are fighting for a draw. It feels like another 1-1 game, which is why these odds are pretty low at +400 to hit. If Everton take the lead you know they will give up a goal. If Crystal Palace scores, Everton are likely to concede another.

I made this bet a few weeks ago in the game between Palace and Leicester City and it lost after Palace escaped with a PK in stoppage time in a 2-2 draw. I feel the same way here, as neither offense really works and both defenses allow at least one goal. Palace kept a clean sheet against Manchester United but that was a completely different game. Neither of these teams will completely dominate for 45 minutes. I’m also willing to take on corners due to a likely back-and-forth contest, but I’d like to try a different scoreboard bet where 1-1 and 2-1 are the most likely outcomes.

EPL Best Bets for Leicester City at Arsenal

SGP: Arsenal beats Leicester + Arsenal O2.5 Corners 1H + No BTTS = +140

Premier League SGPs are available at BetMGM. If you haven’t registered yet, you can use it BetMGM bonus code ROTOBONUS for a risk-free bet.

Arsenal are without Martin Odegaard and that’s all you can ask for as a fan after traveling to Tottenham, Atalanta and Manchester City in the same week. A home game against Bolton in the cup allowed Mikel Arteta to rotate most of his squad and this tie is one of the better of the season.

Leicester City have fought for three points in total and perhaps should have more, but this clash is a very different one. Even at home, they have been outclassed by Tottenham and Aston Villa in most of those games, and they are unlikely to make a trip to the Emirates unless Jamie Vardy can come through with a counterattack.

I expect Arsenal to be more like last season’s team, who dominated possession and were up front from the start. Steve Cooper will probably have his team hold back as much as possible to keep an eye on counterattacks.

The big question with this bet and assuming Arsenal keep a clean sheet is whether David Raya will be healthy enough to start, having been great at the start of the season.

EPL Best bets for Tottenham Hotspur at Manchester United

SGP: “Yes” Both teams score + Both Man Utd/Spurs O3.5 Corners = +100

In the game of the weekend, both teams play home games in the Europa League. Manchester United disappointed with a 1-1 draw against FC Twente on Wednesday, while Tottenham picked up a fine win against Qarabag despite losing early on Thursday.

United have been playing better of late but you could argue that is based on the game plan after beating Southampton and Barnsley 10-0 on aggregate. Still, they are at least limiting their opponents more than last season, which should be helpful at this point. Tottenham have often controlled games this season but have struggled to consistently take three points and convert chances.

It could be a game where both teams struggle to score again, but I think both teams make enough mistakes that there will be plenty of opportunities. United’s goal allowed against Twente also sticks in my mind as it involved a lot of mistakes on their part.

In the end I would be surprised if either team won 2-0, so I expect both teams to score. I also think there will be a lot of back and forth movement leading to corners on both sides. I think both teams could score more than five or six corners. So if you want more money, you should choose this route.

If you’re looking for boosts and can’t decide on one, check out the ones from RotoWire Sports betting promo codes.

I ask Eric: The husband is obsessed with his wife’s decades-long affair with her student

I ask Eric: The husband is obsessed with his wife’s decades-long affair with her student

Dear Eric: I am 80 years old and have been married to the best woman possible for 33 years. We connect and are soulmates. My question is: Why have I been jealous lately of her affair with a 17 year old high school student even though she was 27 and a teacher? This was mentioned a long time ago in our past relationship report. Why has this reactive jealousy consumed me now? I want to know a lot of details about this encounter, but I realize that this will only delve me deeper into my obsession. My constant rumination is putting a strain on my side of our marriage. What can I do?

– Past repeat

Dear repeat: Whenever seemingly random events from the past enter my mind, I always think of the moment in a crime drama when a body floats to the surface of a swamp, only to be discovered years after the initial crime. Like the plot of a crime drama, these mysterious feelings always involve more questions than answers and are never really about what they initially seem to be about.

What your wife did wasn’t appropriate, but it doesn’t sound like this new obsession is about ethical violations. I don’t think it’s even about what happened in the past. If you have the resources, talking to a counselor or therapist about this fixation can help you get to the bottom of what you’re really stressed about. Maybe something is changing in your marriage, maybe you’re worried about yourself or your body. These things are normal and it is possible to change the way you think about them so that the movies stop playing in your head. Your local aging department may also be able to point you to free or low-cost counseling options for seniors.

It’s also important to draw a clear line between what’s going on in your head and what’s going on in your marriage. Tell your wife that you can’t stop fixating on this event and also what you plan to do to remedy it. Don’t make your obsession their problem, but if there’s something in your marriage that needs to be addressed, disclosing what else is going on in your head will pave the way for a healthier discussion.

Neither Gojo nor Itadori could have been the protagonists of Jujutsu Kaisen with the ending that Gege Akutami gave to a character

Neither Gojo nor Itadori could have been the protagonists of Jujutsu Kaisen with the ending that Gege Akutami gave to a character

With Jujutsu Kaisen Since the book is slowly losing momentum and is almost coming to an end, the leaks for the final chapter have already caused a stir. The biggest mistake Jujutsu Kaisen Slowly, the serious lack of focus on the characters and the unanswered mysteries became apparent. Despite spending so much time with them, we know little to nothing about them and their characters are not fleshed out enough.

Gojo reveals in Jujutsu Kaisen that Yuji is actually alive. [Credit: Mappa]

Yuji Itadori, the beloved protagonist, had been through a lot since the Shibuya arc, but that was about it. Fans are confused about where or what his domain extension is or what he might end up doing. Likewise, the famous Gojo Satoru, who is also known to non-anime fans, died far too early. So if the fan favorites couldn’t get the spotlight Jujutsu Kaisenthen who did it? Unfortunately the answer is Sukuna.

Spoiler alert!!!

Spoilers for the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen and the Shinjuku Showdown Arc!

The main characters are great but irrelevant

The majority of the characters Jujutsu Kaisen have been well received by the masses. From their eccentric personalities to their attractive looks, Gege Akutami nailed most aspects. Yuji Itadori is a charming protagonist who later suffers a lot and we see him become the hardened protagonist he is now.

Gojo Satoru isn’t just an all-powerful mentor; The pressure to be the strongest is enormous and he has lost too much. Megumi Fushiguro, the boy with so much potential, struggles to find his place in the world of jujutsu sorcery. Maki has suffered so much abuse and oppression at the hands of the elitist, misogynistic Zenin clan. However, in the long run, none of this matters.

After the Shinjuku Showdown arc, the plot started to fall apart. After Gojo Satoru’s tragic death, everyone else was left to pick up the pieces. Sukuna was essentially invincible and it was impossible to give him an advantage after taking over Megumi’s body.

Fans witnessed the deaths of several characters, some of which were incredibly unnecessary, before Yuji finally defeated him. In the end, surprisingly, it was Sukuna who developed the most. He admitted defeat and was a comforting figure to Uraume, something we never thought possible. But why did Gege lose focus on her main characters and elevate Sukuna?

The flaw in Gege Akutami’s character writing

Gojo is trapped in the Prison Realm by Jujutsu Kaisen.

Fans were rightly excited about the return of fan favorite Gojo Satoru, but the strongest wizard was killed off in a disappointing way. It almost felt disrespectful to his character and we all know Akutami notoriously dislikes him. Still, this isn’t a good excuse for how incomplete the author left the storylines of several other major characters. Instead, Akutami gave Sukuna a very powerful conclusion, even though fans were looking forward to his demise for several chapters as he gleefully murdered many.

Sukuna’s conclusion in the manga is undeniably quite interesting. The King of Curses has always been a fascinating character that you love to hate after a while. Unlike Mahito, he learns what loss and defeat are and accepts them. However, it doesn’t really explain why the main characters are incomplete and their development is almost nil. The main trio is largely reduced to the ambitious “power of friendship” trope. Sukuna Ryomen is essentially treated as the main character in the end, despite the lack of Heian-era lore and the hasty defeat.

George Clooney, Brad Pitt’s shout of fame

George Clooney, Brad Pitt’s shout of fame

Do you love movies? Live for TV? USA TODAY’s Watch Party newsletter features the best picks delivered right to your inbox. Register now and be one of the cool kids.

Getting George Clooney in a movie is usually a good deal. The same goes for Brad Pitt.

you together? in the same film? C’mon, that’s a BOGO fucking bargain. The “Ocean’s Eleven” partners are back on the same screen – and streaming to boot! – with the Apple TV+ action comedy “Wolfs”, one of our new viewing recommendations at the end of September. If you need a proper Netflix binge, we recommend the romantic comedy “Nobody Wants This” with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. And yes, that title is terrible. But this is much better: My Old Ass is a coming-of-age dramedy that brings together Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella. (Remember the little girl from the ABC country soap “Nashville”? That’s her!)

Now for the good stuff:

Watch George Clooney and Brad Pitt together in “Wolfs” on Apple TV+

Brad Pitt (left) and George Clooney star in the action comedy as rival go-betweens - and reluctant partners "Wolves."

“Wolfs” (now streaming on Apple TV+) stars Clooney and Pitt as rival “fixers” hired to do the same job, two old dogs with no desire to learn new tricks. (Fun fact: I met Clooney’s pooch once over Zoom during the pandemic. It was great.) While the film is stylish and cool, it hits a lot of the usual buddy comedy tropes, but its two leads are just a joy, watching them together and jokingly and staring each other down as their characters go from enemies to partners as their night gradually goes wrong. (Check out my ★★★ review.)

There are actually a lot of good options when it comes to streaming new movies. That’s why I’ve put together a guide for your weekend viewing pleasure. Movie releases like Civil War and Challengers — two of the year’s best films, I might add — are worth catching up on if you haven’t had the chance yet, but be sure to check out original films, too. like the heartwarming Will Ferrell documentary Will & Harper and the Rosemary’s Baby prequel Apartment 7A.

Stream Nobody Wants This on Netflix with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody

Podcast host Joanne (Kristen Bell) falls in love with Rabbi Noah (Adam Brody) in the Netflix comedy “Nobody Wants This.”

Remember how I said a week ago that The Penguin was the best new show of the year? Well, Nobody Wants This (now streaming on Netflix) is an absolute delight right after the Batman villain. Bell stars as the host of a saucy podcast who falls in love with a recently single rabbi (Brody), which causes problems for both the agnostic woman and the very Jewish man when they get together, but the show also explores surprises meaningful way of how much our previous relationships influence and inform our new ones. TV critic Kelly Lawler is also a fan, calling the show “absolutely delicious” and the two leads “electric and sexy” in her ★★★½ star review.

My colleague Erin Jensen interviewed Bell and Brody about how “Nobody Wants This” is about opposites attracting. Bell likes the series so much because “it actually exposes so many of the problems that arise when someone isn’t right for you, and you actually have to ask yourself, is it worth fighting for?”

Watch “My Old Ass” in the theater (no, not mine, the movie)

Elliott (Maisy Stella, left) meets her 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza) and tries to get advice from her in the coming-of-age dramedy “My Old Ass.”

Whether you’re young or old, you’re sure to connect with the captivating (and cleverly named) “My Old Ass” (in theaters now). Stella plays a Canadian girl who goes mushroom hunting with her friends at the age of 18. Her wild trip also includes meeting her 39-year-old self (Plaza). Their conversations, first in person and later via text and phone, help them both sort things out emotionally, which is especially important for the teenager, who must navigate questions of sexuality, family ties, and her future during her final summer at home.

I spoke with writer/director Megan Park about the universality of the film’s premise. Her goal was to appeal to people “no matter what stage of life you are in, whether you’re 18 years old and you’re leaving home, or you’re 14 years old and just imagining what that’s going to feel like.” Or you’re 70 and looking “To all your adult children and grandchildren.” (And if you’ve never seen Park’s feature debut, “The Fallout,” an excellent and cutting-edge school shooting drama starring Jenna Ortega, check that out, too.)

There’s more good stuff here!

Man found guilty of murder of IUP student in 2020

Man found guilty of murder of IUP student in 2020

A man has been found guilty of killing an IUP student in 2020.

Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi says Terrion Gates was found guilty Friday of second-degree murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery in the October 2020 shooting death of Jayden Wright, 20.

Manzi says the jury reached its verdict within two and a half hours of a three-day trial in which they were presented with expert witnesses, videotapes, cellphone records and other evidence.

Prosecutors allege Gates and three others conspired to rob Wright at the Carriage House Apartments. Manzi says the three other co-defendants only intended to rob Wright, but Gates “escalated the situation” by bringing a gun and said he “fired the fatal bullet.”

Gates will be sentenced on November 15th. He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The cases against Gates’ co-defendants, Isaiah Moore, Delmar Chatman and Isabella Edmonds, are ongoing.

The University of Wisconsin fires the porn industry’s former chancellor, who wanted to stay on as a professor

The University of Wisconsin fires the porn industry’s former chancellor, who wanted to stay on as a professor

The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents voted unanimously Friday to fire a communications professor who wanted to keep his job after he was fired as chancellor of one of the system’s campuses for producing pornographic films. Joe Gow, who had served as UW-La Crosse’s chancellor for nearly 17 years, argued last week that he should be retained in a teaching position on campus. But the university’s lawyers argued that he behaved unethically, violated the terms of his employment contract, damaged the university’s reputation and compromised its mission. The regents met in closed session Friday morning before publicly voting to fire Gow. There was no public discussion before the board vote. Gow said he is considering filing a lawsuit to keep his teaching job. He did not immediately respond to a message Friday morning. Gow has been on paid leave from his faculty position since the regents fired him as chancellor in 2023, shortly after university leaders became aware of the videos posted on pornographic websites. The case has drawn national attention both for the salaciousness of a high-ranking university official making pornographic films and speaking publicly about them and for the questions it raises about free speech rights. Gow argued that his videos and two e-books he and his wife Carmen have published about their experiences in adult films are protected by the First Amendment. The university’s attorney argued that Gow’s videos themselves were legal, but that they were not protected by his employment contract. Zach Greenberg, an attorney at the free speech advocacy group Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, called the regents’ decision “a major blow to…” academic freedom and the right to free speech.” “FIRE has said time and time again: Public universities cannot sacrifice the First Amendment to protect their reputation,” Greenberg said. “We are disappointed that the UW has caved to donors and politicians by alienating a tenured professor.” Republican lawmakers already view the Wisconsin university system as a liberal incubator. Last year they forced the company to scale back its diversity initiatives. System President Jay Rothman has tried to avoid further angering conservatives as he seeks approval for an $855 million increase in the next state budget. Gow’s hope of teaching in the classroom again was rejected by his department head, Linda Dickmeyer. She said because Gow hasn’t taught in 20 years, he will be assigned general education courses, but she refuses to allow him to return to teaching in any role. Gow was criticized in 2018 for inviting porn actress Nina Hartley to give a talk on campus. She received $5,000 from tuition fees for her performance. He came up with the idea of bringing her to campus after filming a pornographic video with her, the university said. Gow and his wife’s e-books were written under the pseudonyms “Monogamy with Benefits: How Porn Enhances Our Relationships” and “Married with Benefits.” Our real-life adventures in the adult industry.” But they also star in a YouTube channel called “Sexy Healthy Cooking,” in which the couple cooks meals with porn actors.

Toronto Argos defenseman DaShaun Amos hopes to match the physical performance of the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday

Toronto Argos defenseman DaShaun Amos hopes to match the physical performance of the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday

TORONTO – DaShaun Amos and the Toronto Argonauts defense plan to fight fire with fire on Saturday night.

Toronto (7-7) hosts the Montreal Alouettes (11-2-1) at BMO Field. The Argos are currently just four points ahead of Hamilton in the battle for third place in the East Division, while the Alouettes can secure home field advantage for the conference finals on November 9th with a win.

Watch the match LIVE Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT on TSN1, TSN5, TSN.ca and the TSN app.

Even if Toronto wins, Montreal would still clinch the top spot if the Saskatchewan Roughriders beat the Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday night.

Montreal ranks third in offensive scoring (25.7 points per game), although it ranks eighth in net yards (346.1) and last in rushing (82.4). But quarterback Cody Fajardo has a CFL-leading completion percentage of 73.5 and is 7-2-1 as a starter this year.

Montreal doesn’t outdo itself either and has committed the fewest turnovers (19) and interceptions (eight). The Alouettes also lead the league in pass efficiency (106.4) and 30-plus yard completions (29), as well as third in touchdown passes (23).

“A very physical offense,” Amos said Friday. “They want to play more tyranny, they want to control the narrative.”

“We put a lot of emphasis on physicality, effort and toughness this week because we know they are going to play a physical game.”

The 30-year-old Amos has been active in football all season and has seven defensive takeaways at the CFL level (five interceptions, two fumble recoveries). The veteran defensive back also has a defensive TD for the second straight game.

Amos is quick to dismiss credit for his stellar campaign.

“First and foremost, it is my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” he said. “Otherwise, the guys around me make me better every day, they keep me at a certain level.”

“The team is doing a great job of putting us in a position to make plays and practice our strengths. So just go out there, play football the best way I can and make the plays that come to mind.”

Toronto lost a 33-31 home decision to Hamilton last week. The Tiger-Cats secured the victory in the three-game series – their first since 2019 – on Marc Liegghio’s game-winning 48-yard field goal.

Hamilton’s Bo Levi Mitchell completed 31 of 40 passes for 362 yards and a touchdown. Afterward, Toronto head coach Ryan Dinwiddie criticized his defense, saying it was “too soft” despite stopping the Ticats at the one-yard line five straight times and forcing a field goal in the contest.

Dinwiddie believes the defense responded well to his criticism.

“I trust the guys on that side of the ball, they played well for us,” Dinwiddie said. “We had moments where we didn’t play good football, but it wasn’t a good performance.”

“I thought our offense and our special teams did enough to win the game.”

Montreal gets its first start of the season from Toronto starting quarterback Chad Kelly. He missed the previous two meetings while serving a CFL-mandated suspension before being conditionally reinstated in August.

Toronto is 2-3 with Kelly at center.

Kelly last faced Montreal in the 2023 East Division final. The Alouettes forced nine turnovers – including four Kelly interceptions and two returns for touchdowns – in a 38-17 upset win at BMO Field.

“You can’t live in the past, I think you have to learn from it,” Dinwiddie said. “We can’t be careless with football and try not to do too much.”

“That’s what got us in trouble in the East final…Take care of the football, make the routine plays and get the ball into the hands of our playmakers.”

Canadian Ryan Hunter moves from left guard to tackle on Toronto’s offensive line while Isiah Cage is out (oblique/hip). Fellow Canadian Dylan Giffen will take Hunter’s place.

Canadian receiver Dejon Brissett (knee) and returner/receiver Janarion Grant (chest) both return to Toronto. Meanwhile, Canadian safety Marc-Antoine Dequoy (head) is off the injured list for Montreal.

Montreal earned a 24-12 victory over Ottawa last week. Not only did the Alouettes remain undefeated on the road (6-0-1), they also became the first team to beat the Redblacks at TD Place this season.

Toronto is 5-2 at BMO Field but just 1-5 in the East Division. The Alouettes are 5-1 in the conference.

Toronto’s only conference win, however, was a 37-18 decision in Montreal on July 11. The Alouettes won the series opener June 28 at BMO Field 30-20.

Montreal is allowing a CFL-low 19.6 offensive points per game. Linebacker Tyrice Beverette has a league-high 114 defensive tackles (including a league-best 92 tackles), while teammate Darnell Sankey is second overall with 100 (including a league-best 89 defensive tackles).

An interesting matchup will be Toronto’s second-ranked ground game (118.4 yards per game) against Montreal’s No. 8 run defense (112.1 yards). But the Alouettes boast the league’s second-best pass defense (254.8 yards per game) and have allowed just seven completions for 30 yards and 14 touchdowns, both CFL lows.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Sept. 27, 2024.

WADA calls for ban for Jannik Sinner “between one and two years”

In a surprise turnaround, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has appealed an independent tribunal’s decision to clear world number one Jannik Sinner of guilt after he failed two tests for a banned substance earlier this year.

Last month, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) ruled Sinner had “no fault or negligence” for testing positive for the banned substance clostebol twice in March 2024. ITIA supported the Italian’s defense that his physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi accidentally contaminated him with the steroid. Sinner has since stopped working with Naldi.

On Friday, WADA rejected the independent tribunal’s rulingon the grounds that it was “not correct under the current rules”. WADA appealed to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). issued a statement demanded that Sinner be banned from professional tennis for “between one and two years”..

“WADA is seeking a ban of between one and two years,” the statement said. “WADA does not seek to annul any results, except those already imposed by the Arbitral Tribunal of First Instance. As this matter is now pending before CAS, WADA will have no further comment at this time.”
