Portland and Scarborough settle for a draw

Portland and Scarborough settle for a draw

SCARBOROUGH — If you were looking for an example of where Class A South boys soccer stands at the halfway point of the 2024 season, all you had to do was tune in to Saturday’s showdown at the Kippy Mitchell Sports Complex between the host Scarborough Red Storm and their rival, the Portland Bulldogs .

That’s because there were 90 minutes of hard-fought action, with no separation between the teams.

That’s a given this fall.

The Red Storm struck first when junior Khalil Ghosheh scored with 8:44 left in the first half, but the Bulldogs tied it in the final minute before halftime when junior captain Baptista Muanda sank a shot.

Portland had ample opportunity to claim victory in regulation time but failed to finish, and despite some great chances, Scarborough failed to score in either of the two five-minute “sudden victory” overtime periods, and the teams ultimately settled at one Happy with 1-1 draw.

Both teams are now 5-1-1 this season and the fun is just beginning.

“I absolutely think it’s a fair result,” said veteran Bulldogs coach Rocco Frenzilli, who is stuck at 299 career wins. “You want to win, but at the same time you don’t want to lose. I felt like neither team deserved to lose today. It was an even game. We went back and forth. We punched each other in the mouth and got back up.”

“It was a good game, exactly what we expected,” said longtime Red Storm coach Mark Diaz, who has 327 wins in his 26 seasons. “Two great teams, a playoff atmosphere. I’m pretty happy with our performance today. We would like to get the (healing points), but it was only the first round and we will respond to it.”

Too close to call

Portland has made a habit of playing more than 80 minutes in the early stages, outlasting visiting rival Deering 1-0 in overtime in the opening game and then beating South Portland in overtime (1-0) and in the double OT over by visiting Falmouth (2-1). The Bulldogs then took care of Bonny Eagle (7-1) and host Massabesic (8-0) in regulation time before losing to Gorham 2-1.

Scarborough, meanwhile, won their first four games, three of them away. After picking up a 2-1 win in South Portland, the Red Storm defeated host Marshwood (2-1), then beat strong visiting team Gorham (3-0) and then rolled out at Thornton Academy (8-1). . The Red Storm fell from the ranks of the undefeated with a 3-2 setback at Falmouth and got back on track with an 8-0 home win over Sanford on Wednesday.

A year ago, the Bulldogs won 3-0 in the regular season at Scarborough and then earned a 1-0 overtime win in the quarterfinals.

On Saturday, on a seasonably warm afternoon (the kickoff temperature was 70 degrees and it only got warmer from there), both teams had plenty of opportunities to claim victory, but ultimately there would be no resolution.

Portland senior Paulo Joao and Scarborough senior Matthew Booth battle for possession early in the teams’ 1-1 tie on Saturday. Hoffer photos.

The Red Storm got their first chance of the game in the first minute when Ghosheh passed a ball through the legs of a defender to senior Cooper Mallar, but Mallar’s attempt was blocked by Bulldogs senior goalkeeper Marco Cifuentes-Robles.

After senior Paulo Joao narrowly missed the goal for Portland, Scarborough got a few looks, but Bulldogs senior captain Ronan Mas blocked a shot from Mallar in the box after a loss of possession, then Ghosheh’s header went off a throw from junior Carter Blanche just past the goal.

Portland then tried to go ahead, but a Mas free kick that landed in the box was cleared. After freeing himself after a Red Storm defender slipped on the turf, senior David Mawangu was saved by Scarborough senior goalkeeper Seamus Corry.

With 20 minutes to go in the half, the Red Storm had a golden opportunity to take the lead when Ghosheh was released in the penalty area, but Cifuentes-Robles dived and made a great save with his right hand, setting up a Scarborough corner that went to goal Success led That doesn’t lead to a shot.

After junior Denver Bachman sent a free kick over the wall but missed, senior Ibrahim Jabril missed the ball high and Mallar’s shot from the run was blocked by Cifuentes-Robles.

The Bulldogs then returned to the attack, but junior Loic Ramanzani narrowly missed the goal, senior Eliezer Mambueni got a shot from Muanda and missed high, then a cross from senior Isaac Rodrigues-Nkanza landed in the box but went untouched.

Then, with 8:44 left in the first half, the Red Storm got the lead when a ball was inbounded that bounced off senior Matthew Booth to Ghosheh and this time Ghosheh was unstoppable as he ripped off a shot from Cifuentes-Robles got a goal but couldn’t stay out of the net and Scarborough took a 1-0 lead.

“It was a really nice goal,” Diaz said.

After Bachman’s free-kick attempt to double the lead was rejected, Portland pressed for an equalizer and a cross from senior Mateta Antonio set up Joao for a great delivery, but Corry parried it away from close range.

However, the Bulldogs would be rewarded in the final minute when Muanda hit the ball into the goal from a corner kick and after it was thrown back to him, Muanda dribbled in and ripped a ball with his left foot that sailed just past the far post and past a rebounding Corry into the net to make it 1-1 with just 51.9 seconds on the clock.

“In my head I knew I had to shoot,” Muanda said. “I didn’t see the goal, I just shot. I tried to get far into the corner.”

“When (Baptista) hit the ball, we had a great look at the angle,” Frenzilli said. “The only thing I thought about was that their goalkeeper might have started his dive just in time to get his hands on him, but he caught him in the side wall. It was a great boost for us.”

“They got a corner and he hit a nice left-footed shot into the side netting,” Scarborough junior Finn Coburn said. “You have to give them that. It was a beautiful shot.”

“It broke after the corner,” Diaz said. “We need to look at this and fix it.”

Scarborough had a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal in the first half and Portland took three corners while the Red Storm had two corners, but the game was even and that didn’t change in the second half, despite some good ones Opportunities for both teams.

Portland junior Bunga Pedro passes the ball while Scarborough junior Denver Bachman approaches.

Early on, senior Matt Fallona narrowly missed for the Red Storm, while Joao fired a high shot for the Bulldogs.

With 17:38 to play, Rodrigues-Nkanza got free, but his low shot was parried by Corry.

Five minutes later, Joao weaved through the defense and reached the top of the penalty area before narrowly missing.

At 10:48 minutes, Corry parried a shot from Mawangu.

With 9:41 to play, Portland had its best chance of victory when Rodrigues-Nkanza crossed the ball forward to Joao, who looked to take a look into the open goal, but his header went just wide.

In the final moments, a cross from Rodrigues-Nkanza was punched in by Corry and a long free kick from Mas was deflected and tied up by Corry. At the other end, Cifuentes-Robles saved a header from junior EJ Herrick and the clock melted away in regulation time.

In the first OT, a long-range shot from Herrick was parried by Cifuentes-Robles and after a Muanda cross was just out of Joao’s reach, Scarborough took consecutive corners in the final seconds, but a punch from Cifuentes-Robles tied the game stuck.

Then, in the second overtime, the Red Storm had multiple chances to win it.

But they came up short.

First, Cifuentes-Robles beat Herrick with a Ghosheh pass in the penalty area.

After Muanda narrowly missed the ball high for Portland, the ball was deflected to Mallar at the other end in the penalty area, but he missed high.

Scarborough then took a corner kick in the final minute, but a header from junior Finn Coburn off a serve from sophomore Connor Casey went just wide and the game ended 1-1.

“The team played really, really well, but it was tough,” Muanda said. “We wanted to win, but we couldn’t. I feel like the team was tired at the end.”

“I was very happy with how the boys played,” said Frenzilli. “They wanted a different result but I’m sure Scarborough wanted a different result too. They are very good and you have to pay if you have hiccups. We had a lot of hiccups. We have to let them earn their attention, but that’s all we can give them because they are a talented team. I’m happy with the boys’ performance. We could have easily given up after the first goal, but we fought back.”

Cifuentes-Robles made nine saves for the Bulldogs.

“Marco played great,” said Frenzilli. Both goalkeepers had a great performance and did what they had to do to keep their teams in the game.”

Scarborough finished the game with a 10-9 advantage in shots on goal, repelled eight saves from Corry and had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

“It was a tough game against a tough team,” Coburn said. “It was competitive. Both teams had chances. We fought hard. Our defense was strong. I’m happy with the way we played. We were just a bit unlucky. On the last move I missed the header just wide of the goal. We’ll go ahead and get them in the next game. We hope to see them again in the playoffs and if we do, it will be another great game.”

Time to shine

Portland (third in the Class A South Heal Points standings as of press time) is at home next week, playing Sanford on Wednesday and Kennebunk on Saturday. The Bulldogs still have road tests against Windham and Deering.

“We are a strong team,” said Muanda. “I think we are improving significantly in every single game. We want to give our best for the playoffs.”

“Playoffs are going to be crazy,” Frenzilli said. “I would like to get some home cooking if we can get it, but at this point we still have half of our season left. We still have some strong teams ahead of us.”

Scarborough’s path doesn’t get any easier with unbeaten Windham visiting on Tuesday. The Red Storm (fifth in the region) then heads to Bonny Eagle on Saturday next week.

“We just have to keep working and when we get a chance we have to put it in the net,” Coburn said.

“I am proud of the conference that allows me to coach,” Diaz said. “It’s a great conference, the best in the state, and it’s not even close to this big. Every night is a fight. It’s like the (Southeastern Conference) in (college) football. Whoever comes out will deserve it.”

Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand were eliminated in the semi-finals

India’s Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand were eliminated from the semifinals of the 2024 Macau Open after losing in three games to China’s Hung En-Tzu and Hsieh Pei Shan of Taipei in the women’s doubles semifinals.

This was the second semi-final of the season for the Indian pair after the Singapore Open in June, and they have yet to reach a final on the BWF World Tour this year.

Ranked 23rd in the world, Treesa-Gayatri bounced back well from a loss in the first game to force a decider but failed to show consistency, losing 17-21, 21-16, 10-21 in an hour-long match.

They had started the game well, trading points for points with the Taipei duo before Hung and Hsieh took a 13-8 lead in the first game. But the Indian pair pulled back and leveled the game at 15-15. However, Hung-Hsieh took six of the next eight points and secured the opening game.

Three-Gayatri, seeded third at the 2024 Macau Open, showed more urgency in the next game to force a decider. However, they looked anything but good in the decisive third game, as the Taipei pair held their own and took advantage of the game to reach the final.

College Football Picks, Schedule: Predictions vs. Spread, Odds for the NCAA’s Top 25 Games in Week 5

College Football Picks, Schedule: Predictions vs. Spread, Odds for the NCAA’s Top 25 Games in Week 5

Week 5 of the 2024 college football season is underway and that can only mean conference play is in full swing. While the list is highlighted by four matchups with ranked teams, it’s no bigger than No. 2 Georgia’s trip to No. 4 Alabama. Not only are the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide serious SEC contenders, they are also both early favorites in the national championship race. It’s also a great opportunity for first-year Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer to get a decisive win early in his tenure.

However, there are still numerous games on the program before this evening encounter. No. 20 Oklahoma State and No. 23 Kansas State begin a showdown at noon ET that will go a long way toward determining the final Big 12 standings. A surging No. 15 Louisville team travels to No. 16 Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. in a contest that appears crucial to both teams’ playoff hopes, while No. 9 Penn State travels at 7:30 p.m No. 19 Illinois hosts The game could change the entire Big Ten landscape depending on the outcome.

Be sure to stick with CBS Sports all day Saturday for college football coverage from the opening game. Let’s take a look at our expert picks for the best plays in Week 5.

Odds via SportsLine Consensus | Always east

7:30 p.m. | Peacock — Michigan State will be the best team Ohio State has played yet, but I don’t think we’ve gotten a real glimpse of Ohio State’s potential. We’ve only seen a facade of what the Buckeyes’ new offense will look like under Chip Kelly, and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles hasn’t been forced to dig deep into his playbook either. This last part concerns me when it comes to Aidan Chiles and his propensity to turn the ball over. Pick: Ohio State -24 – Tom Fornelli

No. 19 Illinois at No. 9 Penn State

7:30 p.m. | NBC, fubo (Try for free) — The Fighting Illini have been underestimated by oddsmakers at every turn, as they boast a 3-0-1 record against the spread and cover the spread by an average of 10.9 points per game. This is another point where Illinois’ chances of staying afloat and succeeding are underestimated, and while Penn State is the deserved favorite to win, Illinois has a good chance of keeping it closer than that Experts believe. Pick: Illinois +17.5 – Chip Patterson

No. 2 Georgia and No. 4 Alabama

7:30 p.m. | ABC, fubo (Try for free) — There are plenty of storylines in this game, but perhaps the most interesting will be seeing how real these two teams are. Georgia looked very shaky against Kentucky, while Alabama hasn’t played anyone yet. Both should be contenders for the SEC Championship and the CFP, but we’ll know a lot more after Saturday night. Bryant-Denny Stadium should be rocking, but the Bulldogs still have the slightest advantage here. A close win against Kentucky and a bye week gave Kirby Smart enough time to get the message across to his team – and develop a winning game plan – which proves the difference here. Selection: Georgia -2 –John Talty

No. 20 Oklahoma State and No. 23 Kansas State

lunch | ABC, fubo (Try for free) — The battle between these two Big 12 contenders will come down to the ground game. Ollie Gordon II was positioned as the nation’s leading rusher, but Kansas State’s three-headed monster of Giddens, Johnson and Edwards quickly overshadowed the talented Cowboys. OSU proved against Utah that it takes a consistent running game to compete against the Big 12’s best. The Wildcats will prove to be too fast and too good. Pick: Kansas State -5 – Shehan Jeyarajah

3:30 p.m. | CBS, Paramount+ with ShowtimeCBSSports.com, CBS Sports App – Wisconsin is off to a shaky start to the 2024 season, highlighted by two lackluster performances in the first two weeks against Western Michigan and South Dakota. Braedyn Locke is 1-2 in his career as a starter and this is a great opportunity for the USC defense to bounce back after a poor performance on that side of the ball against Michigan. Moss looked like a Heisman dark horse in the first month of the season, and a strong performance would immediately put him back in the conversation. Selection: USC -15.5 –Cameron Salerno

No. 15 Louisville and No. 16 Notre Dame

3:30 p.m. | Peacock — Notre Dame has started a new chapter since its home loss to Northern Illinois in Week 2. The Fighting Irish showed what they’re capable of in a 66-7 win at Purdue on Sept. 28 and will be motivated to reward their fans with a win over a top-15 Louisville team. This is by far the toughest defense Louisville has ever faced, and the Cardinals may struggle to create the explosive plays that gave them the win over Georgia Tech last week. Look for Notre Dame’s defense to frustrate Louisville and eventually break through with the help of Leonard’s dual-threat ability. Selection: Notre Dame -7 – David Cobb

The Galaxy Ring could soon have a new competitor. | Photo credit: Samsung

The smart ring category is hot right now, but is Apple ready to get in on the action on its own?

In the last few months we’ve seen the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Ring and the RingConn Smart Ring, while the Oura Ring (now in its third generation) is the long-standing frontrunner in the race for the best smart rings. Rumors that Apple might be tempted to join the party have been circulating for a few years now, and it appears that Apple is at least somewhat in the planning stages of this form factor.

Here we have compiled everything we know and think we know about the so-called Apple Ring: the leaks and rumors that have surfaced, the predicted price, the possible release date and more. We’ve also added some of the features and specs we’d like to see from the Apple Ring.

Apple Ring: in a nutshell

  • What is that? A supposed smart ring made by Apple

  • When might it appear? TBC, but not before 2025

  • How much could it cost? Expect to pay $399 / £399 / AU$750 or more

Apple Ring: price and release date predictions

Oura Ring 3 on a fingerOura Ring 3 on a finger

Oura Ring 3 on a finger

We don’t have much indication of how much the Apple Ring might cost, but we can take a look at some of the other options on the market. The Samsung Galaxy Ring is available for $399 / £399 and up (Australian pricing is yet to be confirmed), while the Oura Ring 3 is available for $299 / £299 and up (and is not currently available in Australia).

That gives you an idea of the price points we’re talking about. Apple wants to stay competitive, but (as its best iPhones show) it’s not afraid to put a price premium on its products. If we had to guess, we’d say the Apple Ring will be slightly more expensive than its competitors from Samsung and Oura.

Also keep in mind that the best Oura Ring features require a monthly subscription ($5.99 / £5.99 per month). Apple already has the Fitness Plus program that you can sign up for if you own an Apple Watch ($9.99 / £9.99 / AU$14.99 per month). Therefore, it is quite possible that this is also an optional extra for the smart ring.

When it comes to a release date, 2024 and even 2025 seem unlikely given the frequency of leaks and rumors we’ve seen so far; It doesn’t appear that a launch is imminent. We didn’t see an Apple Ring alongside the Apple Watch 10 at the It’s Glowtime event in September 2024, but there’s a chance it could join the Apple Watch 11 in September 2025 if the device shows up as expected.

Apple Ring: Leaks and Rumors

Someone holds the Ringconn Smart Ring against a concrete background.Someone holds the Ringconn Smart Ring against a concrete background.

Someone holds the Ringconn Smart Ring against a concrete background.

The Apple Ring rumors go back a long way, at least to 2020. A patent filed by Apple this year showed that a smart ring would be used to control other devices – with the idea that you could potentially control the channels on your Apple TV could switch by tapping your ring. Of course, patents aren’t always a guarantee of future products, but they show what companies are thinking about and researching.

In 2023, Apple again filed smart ring patents that positioned its potential device as a type of controller for other devices. It seems that each Apple Ring that appears will not only focus on health and fitness, but will also give you new ways to control features on your other Apple devices.

It seems that Apple isn’t limiting itself to finger-mounted wearables either. Another patent from 2023 revealed plans for a type of apple anklet that could be worn around the ankle or around the neck. The success of the Apple Watch is obviously causing Apple to think about how you can track more fitness metrics.

Meanwhile, an industry report out of South Korea suggested in early 2024 that an Apple smart ring was on the way to take on the likes of Samsung and Oura. However, since nothing has emerged in the past few months, either the report’s sources were mistaken or Apple has changed its mind about the future product launch schedule.

We saw another sign that an Apple Ring could be on the way: an Apple survey sent to Apple Watch owners asking how many of them currently wear a smart ring alongside their smartwatch. It may be a bit of a stretch to use this as evidence of an Apple Ring, but it’s not nothing.

And that’s it for the Apple Ring rumors – no hint of pricing, specs, design or anything like that. The lack of details in the rumors suggests that a release could still be some way off, although there was enough excitement at this point to suggest that it is at least being considered.

Apple Ring: What we want to see

Apple Watch Series 10Apple Watch Series 10

Apple Watch Series 10

If an Apple Ring is indeed on the way, what will it look like – and how might it beat existing models? If Apple engineers are reading this, here’s what we want from an Apple Smart Ring.

1. Excellent battery life

Of course, this shows up on every wish list for every device, but decent battery life is a must – especially since the standard Apple Watch won’t last more than a day or two without a charge. In fact, that could be a major selling point for the Apple Ring: continue to track your steps and other activities while your Apple Watch is charging.

2. Premium sleep tracking

Speaking of charging the Apple Watch, many users charge their watch overnight. This means that the smartwatch often cannot be used for sleep tracking, and we hope the Apple Ring can do this very well. In addition, due to its smaller size and lighter weight, a smart ring is better suited for tracking movements while you sleep.

3. Lots of software features without a subscription

We’ve already mentioned Apple Fitness Plus, but we hope that many of the features of an Apple Ring are available without a subscription – like with the Apple Watch. And for those who want additional features like fitness videos, workout plan customizations, in-session metrics, and more, there could be an additional subscription option.

4. A superior design

There are really only so many ways to design a smart ring, but we hope Apple gives the Apple Ring the same aesthetic flavor as shown on the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. We’re thinking about a super slim and super light form factor, a choice of different colors and a smart ring that is one of the most comfortable on the market.

5. Seamless integration of the Apple ecosystem

Apple usually does this perfectly, with iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watches constantly getting new integrations and connections – so we’re hoping this extends to Apple Ring too. It’s unlikely that Apple wants the Smart Ring to replace the Apple Watch, and in fact it could be a useful screen for it (remember, Oura also has an Apple Watch app).

Matvei Michkov inspires Flyers to another preseason win: “He wants to score goals”

Matvei Michkov inspires Flyers to another preseason win: “He wants to score goals”

So what did the mild-mannered, normally reserved couturier do? He immediately challenged Sweezey to a fight and won.

Couturier doesn’t drop the gloves often, and his teammates and coaches have noticed.

“Gigantic. That’s how teams are built, right? It’s a brotherhood. You play for each other,” Flyers assistant coach Brad Shaw said, describing how Couturier’s fight affected the bench and the locker room. “Absolutely perfect leadership at this time. Just what we needed. Not surprisingly, we scored shortly after.”

Just 14 seconds away from the struggling Majors, Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen tied the game at 1-1 by answering Hampus Lindholm’s opening goal with a laser beam from the right circle.

Even though Bruins youngster Matt Poitras regained the lead with a shorthanded goal early in the second period, the Flyers began to find their game. The power play – especially Michkov’s unity – created positive dynamics.

And then Michkov took over.

Less than two minutes after Poitras’ goal, the Flyers had another power play when Poitras hooked Scott Laughton.

With Travis Konecny, Michkov rotated from top to bottom, sneaking behind Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei and placing himself directly on the far goal post. Just seconds later, Olle Lycksell’s brilliant pass from the left circle hit Michkov’s stick and bounced into the net, setting up an effortless power play goal.

“Yeah, I’m just trying to feed him,” Lycksell said with a big smile about his support. “And I think he kind of knows the spots where he should be to turn any situation into a good scoring opportunity, and I feel like he really showed that tonight with the goal there.”

“He’s in the post, he’s kind of getting open out there and that’s not his position to begin with. He knows where he has to be to score the goals and that’s great.”

Couturier, who played on a line with Michkov and Konecny on Saturday night, was more impressed with some of the things Michkov did without the puck.

“He wants to score, he wants the puck and he works hard for it,” Couturier added. “That’s what you want to see in a young man. He just works hard.”

“He’s a cheating guy. He goes into these puck battles and thinks, ‘Oh man, it’s too bad we’re not winning this game,’ and then he leaves the puck battle with the puck,” Shaw joked.

Deion Sanders is “excited” about Colorado football’s complete 4-1 win in the opener

ORLANDO, Fla. – Travis Hunter wore custom cleats in Saturday night’s game against Central Florida – a pair of gold-colored shoes with a graphic on them depicting the mountains and trees of Boulder, Colorado.

They had quite a night. First, he scored a 23-yard touchdown there in the first quarter. He then made an interception and flashed it in a Heisman Trophy pose in the third quarter. After his Colorado team won the game 48-21, Colorado’s two-way superstar even took those cleats off his feet and gave them to someone in the stands here at FBC Mortgage Stadium.

“That’s him, man,” Colorado football coach Deion Sanders said of Hunter’s big night.

In June the first plot details for J-World 4 were released, with the basic premise being that three adults and three teenagers are stranded on an island inhabited by dinosaurs. Official Rebirth Plot details were released in August, confirming that the film is set five years after the events of 2022 Dominationat this point the dinosaur population begins to die out. Against this backdrop, an intelligence team is tasked with obtaining genetic material from three powerful dinosaurs. But after saving a family from a failed sailing expedition, both groups find themselves on an island that hides a dark secret.

What’s no secret is that I’m excited to see what this film has to offer and wonder if it manages to recapture the spirit of the previous entries in the saga. With that in mind, fans will have to wait quite a long time to see the film in its entirety. However, thanks to Frank Marshall’s new contribution, I am comforted by the knowledge that the film is now officially in the can.

Rebirth of Jurassic World is scheduled to hit theaters on July 2 as part of the 2025 cinema schedule. If you want to prepare for the film, you should buckle up and find out about the special features of the film Jurassic Park Universe.

Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, NC devastated by flooding. See photos and video

Chimney Rock and Lake Lure in western North Carolina appear to have been devastated by flooding after Hurricane Helene swept through the area. 2022 census data shows 220 people living in Chimney Rock, with about 1,300 living in Lake Lure.

Air rescue operations continued in Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village on Saturday afternoon as family members desperately searched for details on their loved one’s whereabouts while phone lines were down and internet access was limited.

Rutherford County Emergency Management said crews rescued more than 100 people in the Lake Lure and Chimney Rock area Saturday and rescue efforts would continue into Saturday night.

Rutherford County Emergency Management provided air rescue resources to transport stranded individuals from the area. After evacuation, people will be transported to RS Central High School where they will receive further assistance.

“Please note that mobile and telephone communications in the region are currently extremely limited. We understand the concern and uncertainty this may cause and respectfully ask for your patience as these rescue efforts will take time,” officials said. “Once we receive the names of those rescued, we will make every effort to reach families and individuals who have inquired about their loved ones. Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated during this challenging time.”
