Big Ten in updated coaches poll, AP Top 25

Week 5 of the college football schedule further clarified the Big Ten Conference and which teams stand above the rest.

For another week, No. 3 Ohio State proved to be the class of the conference, defeating Michigan State 38-7 in East Lansing. Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard, who was injured before returning against the Spartans, finished the day completing 21 of 31 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Sherrone Moore’s Wolverines squad stayed at Michigan State and held off a 21-point fourth-quarter lead against Minnesota – with the help of a controversial onside kick – to defeat the Golden Gophers 27-24 and remain undefeated in Big Ten play.

According to a new clip, it is already being predicted that the Minecraft film will be a “massive flop”.

The Minecraft movie trailer did a good job setting up low expectations for the new film, and the latest clip didn’t manage to change that.

Minecraft is the latest in what could be a long line of game and toy adaptations (à la Barbie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie) and aims to bring the famous 3D world to life.

After the reaction to the first Minecraft trailer proved to be bumpy, a new clip has now been released that further increases the cynicism. The clip, released on September 28, shows the new film’s main group meeting Jack Black’s Steve, who shows them how to use the crafting table.

The clip is another look at the combination of live action and computer-generated elements that caused backlash when the trailer was released. Unfortunately, the new teaser couldn’t beat the wave of negative reactions.

The majority of online comments seem to condemn the action film even more, with many bashing the clip’s dialogue, costumes and atmosphere.

“After seeing the teaser and now this latest clip, my instincts are telling me this is headed for a massive flop,” said one X user.

“Borderlands and Minecraft are in a race to see who can make the most negative millions of dollars this year,” said another.

A third added: “This might actually be the worst movie ever made,” while one user agreed: “My god this is written like a cheap direct-to-video movie.”

It’s unclear whether films of this type are destined for box office success or whether Minecraft really has the potential to become a flop. In 2023, both “Barbie” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” topped the list of highest-grossing films, while “Borderlands” was a bomb in 2024, only 32 on a budget of $120 million grossed $.9 million.

With that in mind, things could go either way for Minecraft. But one thing is certain: if this is the reaction so far, those in charge will have to find a way to get the potential audience on their side.

Negative bias: Confusion reigns over the government’s position as Chalmers suggests who appointed the council

Negative bias: Confusion reigns over the government’s position as Chalmers suggests who appointed the council

There is confusion over Labour’s position on negative gearing after Anthony Albanese again refused to rule out future changes, while Treasurer Jim Chalmers appeared to confirm the government had ordered the modeling that ignited the political storm.

Mr Albanese capped a chaotic week with another round of vague and non-committal answers as he addressed the Government’s plans for tax relief.

Just a day after confirming that Labor would not take action to withdraw concessions for the next federal election over fears that housing supply would fall, the Prime Minister refused to close the door on accepting any changes after that close.

Asked whether the pre- and post-election negativity would remain intact, Mr Albanese turned to talk about Labor’s existing $32 billion housing agenda, key parts of which have stalled in the Senate.

“Just for clarity, what we do is what we submit to Parliament,” he said on Friday.

Mr Albanese and Treasurer Jim Chalmers confirmed this week that Treasury officials were planning to make changes to tax write-offs, but declined to specifically confirm who had requested them.

Mr. Albanese suggested on Thursday that the Treasury had taken on the role model of its own accord when he said the officials were not “schoolchildren being told what to do by teachers at the front of the class.”

“The Treasury doesn’t need to be instructed,” he said.

But in his speech in Beijing on Friday, Dr. Chalmers revealed that the government had requested the work – without explicitly saying so.

“When it comes to negative changes in debt, it is not at all unusual for governments or treasurers to seek advice on contentious issues that are in the public eye, including in Parliament.”

“This is not unusual for treasurers,” said Dr. Chalmers.

Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor seized on the comments, saying either Mr Albanese was lying or Dr. Chalmers kept it secret.

Dr. Chalmers reiterated his statement earlier this week that the government has an ambitious housing agenda and that changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax “are not part of it”.

“We have made it clear that our policy is to increase supply,” he said.

“Our policy is to invest $32 billion in this effort. And these changes (to negative gearing), which we receive advice on from time to time because they are public knowledge or enshrined in Parliament, are not part of that policy.”

The question of who requested the modeling is significant because it concerns how serious Labor is about reviving a version of the policies that Bill Shorten pursued in the failed 2016 and 2019 elections.

Treasury officials continually develop policies as part of their routine oversight of the national economy.

But if they were explicitly told by the government to consider negative gearing changes to the options for dealing with the housing crisis, that would suggest Labor is genuinely open to it.

The bombshell decision to change the stage three tax cuts was based on Treasury advice given by Dr. Chalmers ordered late last year as the government sought answers to the cost of living crisis.

WA Treasurer Rita Saffioti said leaving negative gearing untouched was the right move.

“We need more housing in this state and we don’t want to change attitudes that would impact housing,” she said.

“We want to ensure we continue to put more money into housing and continue to incentivize those building or investing in housing in Western Australia.”

Can you remember the last time you read an entire book?

Can you remember the last time you read an entire book?

When was the last time you read a complete book? This question may worry you a little, but we are actually losing the reading habit and shifting to video content. For many people, the trend of reading books may date back months, years, or even decades.

Bill Gates, multiple owner of Microsoft, emphasized how important reading a book can be and how it can change your life forever.

Gates reads 50 books every year and carries a bag full of books with him during the holidays. Gates also mentioned that whenever he starts a book, he always finishes it. “I refuse to stop reading a book halfway through, even if I don’t like it,” Gates told The Times in 2017. He also stated that his voracious reading habits were crucial to his success.

As technology advances, the traditional methods of accessing information are changing. With increasing dependence on gadgets, human participation in various aspects of life is decreasing.

We are surrounded by gadgets like cell phones, tablets and laptops more than ever. These devices constantly impair our ability to read and increase our dependence on them to consume information, especially through visual and auditory means.

The trend has changed quickly and sending voice notes is preferred over chat apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.

GROWING TREND FOR BINGE WATCHING

The dominance of visual media is widely recognized. YouTube’s growth is helping other applications take over the storage space. Binge-watching is quickly gaining popularity on other Reel-supporting websites. This is generally accepted today.

According to Amazon Fire TV’s latest annual streaming trends report, Indians spend an average of over four hours watching content on their Fire TV devices. This data highlights a clear trend in viewing habits and shows that a significant portion of viewers are enjoying streaming entertainment for extended periods of time.

In recent years, digital streaming platforms have been flooded with a variety of binge-watching, signaling a profound shift in television and film consumption.

Services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and ZEE 5 have revolutionized the way audiences interact with content, offering unprecedented access to an extensive selection of series and films that fuel marathon viewing.

According to statistics, the number of smartphone users is 1 billion, 90 percent of them prefer to watch videos online. Additionally, people are spending more time watching videos, movies, TV shows, and audio books.

Marketing firm In-Mobi’s latest Mobile Marketing Handbook-2024 report suggests that an average Indian spends more than 4 hours, which is one hour more than the international average.

The increasing impact of extra screen time is directly related to our minds, which in turn leads to the development of several diseases. This also affects mental performance and creativity and reduces attention span.

AGE OF DIGITALIZATION

Smartphones and streaming sites have also influenced our deep understanding of things and the way we deeply understand different things. Microsoft Corporation conducted a study on our attention span and found that we cannot hold our attention for longer than 8 seconds, which also highlights the influence of a digital lifestyle.

We beat up the goldfish that study says has the shortest attention span.

The Californian university professor Dr. Gloria Mark explains that short video culture has contributed to the greatest reduction in attention spans. Longer viewing of videos and prolonged visualization on the screen also have a negative effect.

Now people have moved on to listening and visualizing, which for a long time took the place of reading. This change is determined by social, technical and psychological reasons.

Reuters has published a report that 71 percent of Indians watch news online while only 29 percent prefer reading newspapers.

With the rise of podcast culture, a change in reading behavior can be observed; Special platforms serve to strengthen the podcast culture. It is often seen how people connect podcast culture with the heritage of radio.

Along with podcasts, audio books are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to traditional reading. Listening to audiobooks relies more on auditory processing than visualizing text, which may not stimulate deep thought or stimulate the mind as intensely as reading.

According to the Statista report, the number of podcast users worldwide has increased by 95 percent in the last five years, so the number of users will rise to 50 million in 2024.

According to a survey by Audible, an Amazon company, users’ listening hours have increased by 39 percent since 2021. People now prefer audiobooks and podcasts over reading printed content. A big reason for this is that audiobooks and podcasts can be listened to anywhere without having to carry physical books or copies.

COVID-19 has boosted the e-book and audiobook culture in India.

READING stimulates the imagination

Neuroscience suggests that reading influences our minds and rewires its functions for better thinking. It’s more of a mental training. Reading also helps us understand the perspective of others, which may differ from ours, thus increasing our emotional quotient.

Neuroscience experts suggest that reading content that challenges your perspective on life and the world around you can improve your ability to concentrate and adapt to complex situations. Reading activities strengthen your ability to imagine alternative paths and remember details, scenes, and thought processes in difficult situations.

The benefits of reading are not only limited to cognitive skills but also promote youthfulness of mind. Reading can prevent memory loss, reduce the risk of stress, and prevent various types of dementia in older adults.

One should not forget that reading also has many benefits. Reading refines people’s imagination, which increases creativity and promotes thinking. That’s why reading should also be encouraged so that we don’t remain slaves to machines in the future.

Reading also allows us to think more creatively and increase the artistic performance of the human mind, as suggested by various reports.

Take an example of a fantasy novel. As you read it, you may imagine magical realms with dragons and wizards. Fantasy could light up the darkest parts of your brain and fully engage you.

CHANGE IN EDUCATIONAL PATTERN

According to a report by Statistics, the number of smartphone users in India has crossed 100 million, with 90 percent of them watching videos. In this technological world, the methods of educational studies are also changing. Video lectures and digital media have now replaced books and articles.

While visual and audio materials make understanding and learning easier, they also have an impact on students’ learning habits.

According to Unacademy, India’s leading online learning company, they have more than five million active learners studying with them. At the same time, the number of people learning on streaming platforms like YouTube is much higher.

More and more video platforms are seeing increased user engagement as students prefer watching instructional videos rather than studying traditional books.

However, if this trend continues, our reading and writing habits will gradually be limited to educational work and other professions that have to do with reading and writing.

Scientists and researchers are concerned about the declining trend of reading, raising the question of whether we will break the habit of reading in the near future.

(Rodrigo Abd / Associated Press)

(Amir Bibawy / Associated Press)

Kamala Harris’ focus on child care builds on generations of feminism

Kamala Harris’ focus on child care builds on generations of feminism

Earlier this month, former President Trump was asked a revealing question at the Economic Club of New York: What would he do about child care?

Trump’s awkward response: “Childcare is childcare” and then talking about tariffs — reflected how rarely men in the centers of power are asked to take care of this essential work that has historically been assigned to women. A few weeks later, Vice President Kamala Harris proposed a plan to prevent families from overspending 7% of their income for childcare.

Hearing that child care is a key issue in a presidential election is not common politics. It is, in fact, the culmination of the work of generations of feminist activists.

When we think of feminism, valuing care work may not be the first thing that comes to mind. In U.S. schools, feminism is often taught as a fight for freedom from housework and housework, led by predominantly white, middle- and upper-class women like Betty Friedan. From this perspective, the success of feminism should be measured primarily by the number of women pursuing a career.

But there were other forms of feminism before, after and alongside this focus on paid work. In 1942, union organizer Kitty Ellickson founded wrote an influential essay about a term for a reality women still live in, the “double day” – doing most of the care work while working for pay means doing two jobs for the price of one.

The solution, Ellickson wrote, was for the women’s movement to demand this of employers adjust “A man’s world for women.” From this perspective, true gender equality meant challenging the idea that “men’s work” outside the home was more important than the work done at home. It also meant shorter workdays and access to affordable childcare. Not surprisingly, these ideas emerged from the labor movement—women who worked in mines and factories were less likely to equate their work with liberation.

Nor was work an attractive feminist vision for those whose work lay outside the home…in other people’s homes. Sometimes this work was not paid at all: the first domestic workers in this country were enslaved women. Even today, women of color are often the ones who are often underpaid, unprotected housework This remains when middle or upper class women go to the office. According to a 2022 report, more than half of domestic workers across the country are women of color, with Black and Latino women being overrepresented.

Dorothy Bolden, a black domestic worker in Atlanta and a contemporary of Friedan, began washing diapers for her mother’s employer at the age of 9. She fought against the invisibility of nursing work and nursing staff by organizing 10,000 Starting in the 1960s, domestic workers demanded higher wages and better working conditions. She told Georgia legislature that cleaning ladies and nannies also had families: “I have to dress my children.”

In the 1970s, welfare rights activists went further, arguing that mothers deserved government subsidies: if care work was real work, society must recognize its value through pay. Leaders at the National Welfare Rights Organization, including Johnnie Tillmon, noted that while our culture idealizes white housewives because they care for their children full-time, Leader denigrated Black mothers and portrayed them as welfare-dependent burdens on the system. As mainstream feminist organizations moved to advocate for universal daycare, welfare rights organizers demanded justice for those who would staff the centers. warning against the creation of an army of “institutionalized, partially self-employed mothers.”

This combination of insights from Black women leaders—that family care work needs financial support and that professional care workers need fair working conditions—reflects a deep vision of racial, gender, and economic equality that is often missing from mainstream feminism.

Although Harris is sometimes criticized for shifting issues, he has long been an advocate for family care grants and justice for caregivers. As a senator for California, she supported the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act in 2019, which would have guaranteed overtime pay, sick days, and meal and rest breaks, and initiated a study on how to make health, retirement and other benefits more accessible. Their recently proposed 7% cap on child care costs may fall short of the domestic worker pensions and guaranteed income for single mothers that previous radicals had envisioned, but their decision to put this issue front and center can move our national consciousness toward Direct progress.

Harris has supported care work without anchoring it in the “traditional” family, focusing on interventions that help a wide range of households, such as: paid family leaveaffordable Long-term care and an expanded one Child tax credit. This is in line with the National Welfare Rights Organization insistence that single parents deserve the same respect as other families and that the organization advocates for policies to support caregivers regardless of their family structure.

Both Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance, have done so expressed Support for expansion Child tax credit. Still, Vance attacked Work and childless women, degraded Day care and suggested that involving Grandma or Grandpa was a solution to child care costs. Aside from targeting and shaming women, these statements make it hard to believe that a second Trump presidency would recognize that paid care work is an urgent need for many types of families and that caregivers deserve equal rights.

True equality for women – for all of us, regardless of race and class – depends on parental support and the fight for professional caregivers, mostly women who, in the words of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, “make all other work possible.” Maybe this kind of feminism has finally had its day.

Serene J. Khader, Professor of Philosophy at the TCUNY Graduate Center and Brooklyn College is the author of the forthcoming book, “Faux Feminism: Why We Fall for White Feminism and How We Can Stop.”

To access other Control Center pages, swipe up or down on your Control Center or tap the corresponding page icon at the far right of the Control Center screen.

How to customize apps and features in your Control Center

You can also enlarge the controls for easier access. Some controls can be turned into tiles, while others – such as B. “Music” – can become its own Control Center page. How to resize your apps and features.

Where to watch Chiefs vs. Chargers: TV channel, NFL kickoff time, live stream, spread, odds, prediction

An AFC West showdown awaits in Inglewood late Sunday afternoon as the Los Angeles Chargers host the Kansas City Chiefs. Both division rivals enter Week 4 with winning records.

For the Chiefs, they moved to 3-0 after a road win in Atlanta in prime time. After starting the first two weeks perfectly, the Chargers suffered their first loss of the season in Week 3 against the Steelers. To make matters worse, they were also decimated by injuries in the loss, including quarterback Justin Herbert, who left the game early after his ankle sprain aggravated. Herbert is officially considered questionable for this matchup, while pass rusher Joey Bosa and offensive tackle Rashawn Slater have been ruled out.

To better prepare for the Week 4 showdown, we’ll go over some other key storylines, give our prediction, and of course let you know how to watch this game on CBS and Paramount+.

All NFL odds come from SportsLine Consensus.

Where to watch Chiefs vs. Chargers?

Date: Sunday September 29th | Time: 4:25 p.m. ET
Location: SoFi Stadium (Inglewood, CA)
TV:
CBS | Electricity: Paramount+ (click here)
Consequences: CBS Sports App
Opportunities: Chiefs -7, O/U 39.5

A key for each side in the AFC West showdown

Chiefs: Will Travis Kelce get back on track?

It was a remarkably quiet start for Travis Kelce. The Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end has just eight catches for 69 yards in three games. To put that into clearer context, these are the fewest receptions and receiving yards in a three-game stretch in a season in his career. As Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid noted, the way the defense emphasized Kelce contributed to this slow start. However, their offense runs most efficiently when Kelce is involved, and this matchup against the Chargers could go a long way toward getting him back on track. In the past, Kelce has owned this division rival. In his last five games against the Chargers, Kelce had 40 receptions, 640 yards and six touchdowns.

Chargers: Can the Chargers keep Herbert up?

The Chargers are without Rahsawn Slater because of a left pectoral injury. Meanwhile, right tackle Joe Alt is questionable with a knee injury, meaning Los Angeles could lose its two starting tackles on Sunday. As for Slater, Justin Herbert is under pressure with the tackle on the field 31% of the time in his career, compared to 36% of the time when he is off. So that’s a rough recipe for an already banged-up Herbert, especially against a Chiefs defensive front that produced the fifth-highest rate in the NFL over the last two seasons.

forecast

This line started at Chiefs -3 but has grown to Chiefs -7 because of all the injuries the Chargers have suffered. In addition to the Los Angeles offense potentially having to keep Herbert out of harm’s way with two backup tackles, the Chargers will be without star safety Derwin James due to a suspension. There are just too many struggles against the Chargers to expect them to keep this game competitive. Since their bye week is in Week 5, they can make it and fight the next day.

Expected score: Chiefs 27, Chargers 17
The choice: Chiefs -7

How do online casino bonuses work?

How do online casino bonuses work?

(MENAFN – King Casino)

Online casino bonuses have become a key marketing strategy that online gambling platforms use to attract new players and retain existing players.

These bonuses can significantly improve your gaming experience by offering additional benefits such as free spins, deposit matches or even cashbacks.

However, they often contain terms and conditions that you must fully understand to get the most out of them. Here’s a comprehensive guide to how online casino bonuses work, what types are available and how to make the most of them.

Types of online casino bonuses

Welcome bonus

This is the most common type of bonus offered to new players when they sign up and make their first deposit. A welcome bonus is usually a percentage of your first deposit.

For example, a 100% welcome bonus on a $100 deposit gives you an additional $100 to play with, effectively doubling your balance.

No deposit bonus

A no deposit bonus is granted without you having to deposit any money. These are smaller bonuses, often between $5 and $25, that allow you to try the casino for free. However, they usually come with strict wagering requirements and winning limits.

Free spins

Free spins are popular bonuses that allow you to play slot machine games without spending your own money.

They are often bundled with other bonuses or given as standalone promotions. While free spins allow you to win real money, they usually come with wagering requirements and caps on the amount you can win

Reload bonus

Similar to the welcome bonus, existing players are offered a reload bonus if they make further deposits after the first deposit.

This bonus is usually a percentage match, although it may not be as high as the first deposit bonuses.

Cashback bonus

Cashback bonuses reimburse a percentage of your losses over a set period of time, usually a day, a week or a month.

For example, if you get a 10 percent cashback on $100 in losses, you’ll get $10 back. These bonuses often come with fewer restrictions than other types, making them popular with regular players.

Loyalty and VIP bonuses

Online casinos often run loyalty programs where players can earn points or rewards based on their playtime and spending.

Earning points can lead to exclusive rewards such as personalized bonuses, free spins and even cash prizes.

VIP programs may offer advanced benefits such as faster withdrawals, dedicated account managers, and luxurious gifts.

Referral bonus

Some online casinos reward players for referring new users. When a friend signs up and makes a deposit using your referral link, you can receive a bonus which can be in the form of free spins, cash or bonus credit.

How do the wagering requirements work?

One of the most important aspects of online casino bonuses is the wagering requirement, also known as the playthrough requirement. This is the number of times you must wager the bonus (or deposit and bonus amount) before you can withdraw any winnings.

For example, if you receive a $100 bonus with a 30x wagering requirement, you will need to wager $3,000 ($100 x 30) before you can withdraw any bonus winnings. Different games contribute differently to meeting these needs.

Slots typically contribute 100%, but table games like blackjack or roulette may only contribute a fraction, say 10-20%.

Important terms and conditions to pay attention to

While online casino bonuses can boost your balance, they are not free money with no strings attached. Key terms to look out for include:

Maximum bet limits

Many bonuses set a maximum wagering limit as long as you meet the wagering requirements. Wagering above this limit may result in the bonus and any winnings being forfeited

Time limits

Most bonuses are time-limited and require you to meet the wagering requirements within a certain period of time, for example 7 days or 30 days.

Game Restrictions

Some bonuses only apply to certain games, particularly free spins tied to specific slot machines. Likewise, some bonuses may exclude certain games from counting towards wagering requirements.

Competitions

No deposit bonuses and free spins often have maximum winning caps that limit how much real money you can withdraw from bonus winnings.

Bonus Abuse Prevention

Online casinos have measures in place to prevent players from taking advantage of bonuses. This could include disqualifying players for creating multiple accounts or using certain betting strategies designed to game the system.

How to Maximize Casino Bonuses

Read the fine print

Before claiming a bonus, read the terms and conditions carefully. Pay attention to wagering requirements, game contributions and time limits to avoid unpleasant surprises

Choose bonuses with low stakes

Bonuses with low wagering requirements (e.g. 20x or less) are cheaper as they allow you to meet the playthrough requirements more easily.

Focus on legitimate games

To meet the wagering requirements quickly, you should stick to games that contribute 100% to the playthrough. Slots are usually the best option, but look at the specific games that are suitable for them.

Plan your bets

If there is a maximum betting limit, adapt your betting strategy to it and still enjoy the game. Do not try to rush the wagering requirements by betting large amounts if this is against the bonus rules.

Benefit from VIP programs

If you are a regular player, joining a loyalty or VIP program can provide long-term benefits such as exclusive bonuses, faster payouts and personalized offers.

Online casino bonuses can significantly improve your gaming experience, provide added value and extend your playing time. However, it is important to understand the terms and conditions associated with each bonus, particularly wagering requirements and gaming restrictions.

By carefully choosing the right bonuses and playing strategically, you can maximize your chances of converting bonus funds into real money while enjoying the thrill of online gambling.

Always remember to gamble responsibly and view bonuses as a fun addition to your casino experience rather than a guaranteed way to win money

Elizabeth Román brings marginalized voices to Western Mass reporting

Elizabeth Román brings marginalized voices to Western Mass reporting

MassLive recently asked readers to identify people they believe are Hispanic and Latino leaders in Massachusetts who are committed to making a difference across the state.

Profiles of these managers will be released during Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th. These are people that readers have identified as inspirational and who may be doing good for their communities. They are recognized for their achievements, leadership and commitment to effecting change.

Elizabeth Roman of New England Public Media. (Don Treeger / The Republican)Don Treeger

Elizabeth Roman

Age: 40

Community: Springfield

Your story: Elizabeth Román began her journalism career at age 19 when she was an intern at The Springfield Republican — and later became a full-time reporter. She spent nearly 20 years at the branch and in 2018 became editor of El Pueblo Latino, a Spanish-language weekly newspaper owned by The Republican.

Román wrote thousands of articles about the Latino community and expanded her repertoire by becoming editor-in-chief of the book Nuestra Historia: A History of Latinos in Western Massachusetts.

In 2020, she co-founded Colectivo de Medios Latinos, a digital collaboration with other Latino journalists in the region that provides breaking news online in Spanish during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two years later, Román joined New England Public Media (NEPM) in Springfield as a senior editor, editing reporters, working to expand the diversity of sources in news reporting and looking for opportunities to create more Spanish-language news content.

She was later promoted to editor-in-chief of Daily & Digital News and oversaw “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered.”

Román also works with reporters to cover events and social issues in Western Massachusetts, helping reporters distribute stories and edit their work.

“As a Puerto Rican woman born and raised in Springfield, I strive to bring the voices of often marginalized or forgotten people on the air. Our reporters are able to honor and highlight the contributions of people of color in our region and change the narrative in the media that often only focuses on the negative,” Román said.

Román said NEPM can also highlight inequities and struggles that people in Western Massachusetts face, including in the areas of education, health care, mental health and housing.

In her words: “Be curious about the world around you and how it relates to the community in which you live. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and delve deeper into topics that are important to you, but also be open to exploring topics that you may not have interest in or know nothing about. Challenge yourself to interact with and interview people who may have very different beliefs and opinions than you.”

We are always open to more inspiring people. If you would like to suggest someone else who should be recognized, please fill out this form this form.
