Trump comes to the Alabama-Georgia game and shouts “USA” and “Four more years”

For the first time this year, Donald Trump is in the building for a college football game.

The former president and three-time Republican presidential candidate is in Tuscaloosa to attend Saturday night’s game between Alabama and Georgia.

Trump began his day in Wisconsin with a rally that was supposed to take place outside but was moved indoors due to a lack of Secret Service staff.

He then flew to Alabama to watch the action between the top two SEC programs.

When Trump arrived, dozens of fans were in the concourse of Bryant-Denny Stadium to greet him.

Trump tossed merchandise to fans and many of them chanted “USA” as he entered the stadium.

Trump also received an ovation when he was shown on the Jumbotron.

Last year he attended a game between Iowa and Iowa State and another between Clemson and South Carolina. He also took part in a game at Alabama in 2019.

FANS BOO TIM WALZ AS HE LEAVES THE MICHIGAN-MINNESOTA GAME: “GET OUT!”

Given recent assassination attempts on the former president, including one on his own golf course, acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe was asked whether “[these] Types of events are particularly concerning as there could be around tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people in attendance at Saturday’s game. Bryant-Denny Stadium holds over 100,000 people.

But Rowe said his teams “know what they need to do to create a safe environment for our protectees.”

Vice President Kamala Harris reportedly arranged for a Trump troll banner to be displayed during the game.

As The Washington Post reported Saturday, a plane with a message reading “Trump’s Punting in Second Debate” is expected to fly over the stadium during the primetime game.

Alabama beat Georgia 27-24 in the SEC title game last season. That gave the Crimson Tide the No. 4 seed in the College Football Playoff and eliminated Georgia, which had been the No. 1 seed and had won 42 of its previous 43 games. History appeared to be repeating itself after Alabama took a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.

3 Chicago White Sox free agents who won’t be back in 2025 and why

3 Chicago White Sox free agents who won’t be back in 2025 and why

The 2024 Chicago White Sox were so bad it’s almost unimaginable. On Friday they lost their 121st game of the season, breaking the record for most losses in a single season in modern history.

Chicago needs to make some serious changes to its roster. Their reconstruction is just beginning. Many expect them to trade their two stars, Garrett Crochet and Luis Robert Jr., either this offseason or before next year’s trade deadline.

Aside from those two, there are a few other free agents who won’t be back on the White Sox roster in 2025, either because Chicago doesn’t want them back or because they don’t want to lose 120 games again.

For more news and rumors, check out MLB Insider Robert Murray’s work The Baseball Insiders Podcastsubscribe The moonshotour weekly MLB newsletter and join the Discord to get the inside scoop leading up to the MLB offseason.

For the White Sox to lose a record 121 games, they have to perform poorly across the board. Their pitching is bad, their hitting is bad, their bullpen is bad. It’s the entire squad. So if a player like Dominic Leone, a veteran right-handed reliever, leaves in free agency, the White Sox will likely part ways with him.

Leone was never a reliever, but he was never typically as bad as he was in 2024 with the White Sox. Leone pitched 19 innings with an ERA and FIP well over 6.00 and a WHIP that was close to 2.00. He was hit often and hard. When he didn’t allow hits, he was a batter.

It just wasn’t a good year for Leone. However, part of this is also due to his environment. It must be exhausting pitching for the worst team in modern history.

However, after such a bad season, I expect both parties to part ways. Leone probably doesn’t want to return to the White Sox unless that’s the only offer he has. Chicago wouldn’t want him back after his disastrous season as the younger talent could likely emerge and produce better results.

This one is pretty shaken. These two parties will not come to an agreement when Leone hits the market this offseason.

While Dominic Leone was considered a replacement due to his poor performance and is expected to leave in unrestricted free agency, the second player on this list still has a few years of arbitration left on his contract. The second player on this list who won’t be back in 2025 is veteran infielder Danny Mendick.

Mendick, 31, hasn’t spent a full season in the major leagues since the shortened 2020 season, in which there was no minor league season to send him to. He split the 2024 season roughly 50 percent with the White Sox and 50 percent with Triple-A. He wasn’t particularly impressive in either situation.

In the big leagues, he hit .197/.243/.318 with a negative WAR. In Triple-A, he hit .263/.330/.514 with 11 home runs. It’s gotten to the point where the White Sox would simply be better off letting him go and join another organization. He offers little to no value in the future rebuild and likely won’t be in the major leagues by the time Chicago is ready to compete again.

I would be surprised to see Mendick in Chicago next season.

While the first two players on this list were included because the White Sox may not want them back, this player will be here for a different reason. It’s 27-year-old starting pitcher Mike Soroka, who will enter free agency at the end of the year.

Soroka, 27, hasn’t had a great season. He failed to record a win and went 0-10, largely due to the White Sox’s terrible offense and struggling bullpen. Soroka posted a 4.93 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. He wasn’t spectacular, but his career isn’t over yet.

With Soroka set to enter unrestricted free agency, multiple teams will likely be interested in signing him, either as a back-end starter or as a long-term backup option. He’s still a viable option in the big leagues, especially considering how many postseason teams have injury-plagued pitching staffs this season. Soroka will likely look to move to another team in a few months.

The only way Soroka wears the White Sox jersey in 2025 is if the White Sox are willing to significantly overpay for him. If not, I expect Soroka to move on to another organization in search of team success.

RHP Reynaldo Lopez (Shoulder) returns from injury to start. He was limited to just 25 pitches in his last start at Washington on September 10th.

With Minnesota’s loss on Friday, the Royals secured a postseason berth. While Kansas City is just 3-8 in its last 11 games since September 15th, it has allowed just 9 runs, or 1.8 runs per game (RPG), in its last 5 games due to no longer keeping an eye on its pitching staff was retained. The under is 4-1 in the last 5 games for the Royals while the under is 18-6-1 in the last 25 games.

Royals at Braves tips and predictions

forecast

Braves 4, Royals 3

Money line

The Brave (-210) are worth a look as favorites in the 2nd game of this crucial series. Atlanta will have to keep up with New York as the two NL East rivals fight for a playoff spot.

The Royals (+170) haven’t been playing great baseball lately anyway, but now that they’ve secured a playoff spot, they won’t be playing with the same urgency as the home team.

Running Line/Against the Spread

Kansas City +1.5 (-130) will probably score, but putting $1.30 on the Royals isn’t recommended when they’ve just secured a playoff spot.

HAPPENand if you like KC, just play it straight with plus money.

Over/Under

UNDER 8 (-115) is worth a look in a game that should have a playoff feel.

Plus, Kansas City has been all about the under lately: 4-1 in their last five games and 18-6-1 in their last 25 games. The minors were also 4-1 in Lugo’s last five appearances.

The Braves’ record in their last five games is 4-0-1.

The urgent need for roof repairs

The urgent need for roof repairs

Schools in the Clinton system are facing a roofing need that administrators say is getting worse and more costly. Total repair costs are currently estimated at over $11 million.

That was the message John Lowe, executive director of technology and support services for Clinton City Schools, delivered to the Clinton City School Board last week.

Both the city and county school systems have had roofing issues for some time, and Lowe said the estimated cost for four of the five Clinton City schools for total roof repairs is about $11,299,600 supplied.

“Going back to the (state) Needs Based Capital Fund, that window opened Aug. 1 and the filing deadline was Sept. 13,” Lowe said. “We met that deadline and I filled out 14 different applications that Dr. (Linda) Brunson was able to sign together with our district representatives. These applications allocate over $6 million for roofing and I included approximately $2.5 million for HVAC needs.

“There is no guarantee that we will receive funding, but in 2021-22 I received almost $900,000, so we can hope for some support from the state in this area,” he continued prices change.”

The $11 million estimate accounts for every school in need, except the newer Clinton High. Among those numbers were cases, Lowe said, that he considered high priority based on their current condition.

“I needed those estimates to support the grant,” Lowe explained. “So you can see some of the updated numbers as well as places that are high priority for me right now. This is Building 300 at LC Kerr, where multiple leaks have occurred in four of the six classrooms. The next equally high priorities are Sampson Middle, both the academic wing and the gymnasium, and then there is the Sunset Avenue wall.

“That wall, I mean, I don’t sleep on it because we have that dividing brick facade,” Lowe confirmed. “If action is not taken, the brick facade above office wing 800 will eventually fall away, from the upper part to the lower part. We have to deal with it.”

The wall project alone, Lowe said, is estimated to cost about $280,000, money he noted is included in his capital expenditure plan. Although there are plans to make the repairs, Lowe said more help is needed.

“My capital expenditure plan for this school year is to bid and rehabilitate that wall, but we’re going to need some assistance from the Needs Base Public School Capital Funds or an infusion of some (money) from the County Commissioners Fund Balance will help us do that because it will be an expensive project,” emphasized Lowe.

The director also explained in detail how the contractors should repair the wall and when funds will be available for the project.

“The recommendation is to take the brick façade off, replace the windows and install vertical metal roof panels as we are getting water through the current brick façade,” he said. “We made every possible attempt to patch it; We replaced the edging on the bottom and coated the wall with a water repellent to try to contain the problem, but we are now at the point where we have no more paving.”

The Sunset wall isn’t the only place Lowe said she’s at her patch limit.

“We’re also running out of pavers for the 300 Hall at LC Kerr,” he said. “As you know, we keep going back up there and covering the shingles even more and now it looks like a patchwork quilt, but then new leaks keep popping up elsewhere. That’s why I’m sharing these estimates to show where we stand in terms of our roofing needs. This really helped me prepare our applications for the Needs Based Public Schools Capital Funds Grant.”

Regarding the scope of the total roofing needs, Lowe’s provided estimates detailing the estimated 2024 construction costs and the 2024 consulting fee, which were equal to the total cost of the project.

• Butler Avenue – (Building 300) construction $243,000, consulting $19,000; a total of $262,000

• LC Kerr – (gym wall) construction $27,000, consulting $4,000; total $31,000; (300 buildings) $148,500, $12,000; total $160,500; (Building 01.15-Kimbrough Road, end of 200 Hall) $196,500, $16,000; a total of $212,500.

• Sunset Avenue – (Elevation Wall) construction $259,000, consulting $21,000; total $280,000; (Triangular building on Kerr Street side) $636,000, $51,000; a total of $687,000; (Auditorium) $315,000, $25,000; a total of $340,000; (700 Hall at Finch Street) $423,000, $33,800; total $456,800; (Combined Auditorium and Finch Street Hall – not charged as a whole) $738,000, $58,800; a total of $796,800.

• Sampson Middle – (Total area of Sampson Middle – not calculated as a whole) Construction $3,720,000, Consulting $335,000; total $4,055,000; (Academic Wing) Construction $2,025,000, Consulting $162,000; a total of $2,187,000; (Gym Wing) $1,695,000, $136,000; totaling $1,831,000.

Based on these figures, the estimated total construction cost is $10,426,000 with consulting fees at $873,600 for a total cost of $11,299,600. While it is a steep hill to overcome, and while plans are underway to address the worst problems, he stressed that urgent help from other sources continues to be needed.

“There is some good news on LC Kerr, as I mentioned, such as our 2021-22 needs-based funds that I just filed this summer, our recent final reports, and my numbers are exactly the same as theirs. The offers were only slightly below our proposal, which was around $57,000.”

While these funds are only intended for the projects listed on their applications, such as new construction, Lowe said the possibility of using these grants for roof repairs at LC Kerr is an option.

“You (NC DPI) immediately said that we would not like to refund these funds, and I responded that I did not want to refund them either, but according to your information, they can only be used to the extent that was suggested in the grant application.” he said. “They said that’s true, but let me discuss this with my boss Dennis Hilton. Dennis then comes back to me and asks: Are there any other roofing projects at the locations that were included?

Lowe continued: “I said, yes, sir, there is; We have an urgent need at LC Kerr Elementary. It’s far more than what we have left, but would that be eligible?” What ultimately came out of it, and I got this in writing from the Office of School Planning, was that we were going to use the $57,000 that we were awarded for can use the LC Kerr project.

“This is helping us tremendously and I had already budgeted a certain amount for this product,” he added. “I hope the project goes through and receives a fair bid so I can shift the rest of my budget toward the wall at Sunset and both of these issues can be resolved with this capital outlay. That is my intention and then we will tackle the others as best we can, hopefully with the help of the district commissioners.”

Duke recovers from a 20-point deficit to beat rival North Carolina 21-20

Duke recovers from a 20-point deficit to beat rival North Carolina 21-20

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Peyton Jones ran 20 yards for a touchdown as Duke took its first lead with 5:42 left, star Thomas scored two touchdowns and the Blue Devils overcame a 20-point deficit to beat rival North Carolina by 21 :20 defeated both teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener on Saturday.

Thomas rushed for 166 yards and Maalik Murphy threw for a touchdown and 209 yards.

The Blue Devils (5-0) snapped a six-game losing streak in this series and beat their neighbors for the first time since 2018. Tre Freeman’s interception with 25 seconds left secured the decisive victory. Shortly afterwards, fans stormed onto the pitch to celebrate and demand the victory bell.

It was an outstanding win for first-year coach Manny Diaz, a former assistant at Texas under current North Carolina coach Mack Brown.

The Tar Heels (3-2) lost for the second straight week despite Jacolby Criswell’s two touchdown passes and running back Omarion Hampton’s 103 rushing yards.

After trailing 20-0, Duke’s first touchdown came when Thomas completed a 29-yard pass into the end zone in the third quarter. His 2-yard touchdown run on the fourth play of the fourth quarter allowed Duke to make it 20-14.

North Carolina’s defense, which had given up a majority of points allowed in a 70-50 home loss to James Madison a week earlier, racked up 97 yards of total offense in the first half. The Tar Heels led 17-0 at halftime.

In the second half, due to a strange sequence, Duke did not take a snap until the first seven minutes of the third quarter had elapsed. The Blue Devils blocked a North Carolina punt, but the ball went beyond the line of scrimmage and was mishandled by the Blue Devils. The Tar Heels rebounded from another string of losses to take a 20-0 lead on Noah Burnette’s 37-yard field goal.

The closest Duke came to scoring in the first half was when Todd Pelino bounced his 47-yard field goal off the right upright in the final minute.

North Carolina: The Tar Heels performed better defensively, but this result will be difficult to understand. It was a chaotic week for the team after Brown apologized for his reaction to the loss to James Madison and North Carolina players were kept away from the media.

Duke: The Blue Devils racked up 297 yards in the second half and had just enough clutch plays to eke out a win despite being 2-for-14 on third down. Duke’s defense was strong in the first month of the season and improved in the second half.

North Carolina: Home Saturday against Pitt

Duke: Saturday at Georgia Tech

Sit ‘Em for Week 4 Fantasy Football: Who Should I Start With Instead? (2024)

Sit ‘Em for Week 4 Fantasy Football: Who Should I Start With Instead? (2024)

Week 4 of the fantasy football season is underway, and while we’ve drafted certain players at a high price, it’s okay to consider benching them despite their name value. We often hear the phrase “start your stallions” and it is a tried and true method, especially early in the season. However, we must adapt as new information, injuries, difficult matchups and/or questionable team situations arise. In this issue I’ll be covering Jordan Love, Javonte Williams and Michael Pittman Jr.

The fantasy football season has been brutal so far with injuries and disappointing cleats. There are better days ahead, but for now, precautions are needed until busts like Javonte Williams and Michael Pittman Jr. show signs of life.

Here’s a look at some fantasy football players who have shown red flags recently and you should think twice about adding them to your lineup in Week 4. If you have any issues or concerns, contact @RotoSurgeon at X.

Be sure to check out all of our 2024 fantasy football rankings:

Quarterback Concerns – Sit ‘Em for Week 4?

Jordan Love – Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings

Jordan Love is back as QB1 for the Packers after suffering a knee injury in Week 1. Malik Willis has performed admirably in his absence, but the former first-round pick is ready to play again. While Love has been training since last week, we shouldn’t rely entirely on his knee and mobility in his first game back. Love will reportedly carry a double-header, which will likely limit his fantasy potential as his rushing upside will be limited.

Additionally, Minnesota’s defense ranks first in total defensive DVOA for three weeks (via FTN). They are first against the run and second against the pass. The Vikings aren’t at full strength on defense, but that’s mitigated by a smart DC like Brian Flores. Love has the advantage of healthy weapons and protection, but in all likelihood you won’t ask too much of her in this game.

Who should you start instead?

Justin Fields – Pittsburgh Steelers at Indianapolis Colts

Justin Fields doesn’t score like Chicago’s Justin Fields, but that’s because he plays an efficient, game-controlling style of football. Fields is currently tied with Bo Nix as QB20 in fantasy football, but that should change in Week 4. Pittsburgh hasn’t forced Fields to come loose often, but that could change this weekend against the Colts in Indianapolis as Anthony Richardson is a formidable opponent.

The Colts are 16th in defensive DVOA so far and will be without star DT DeForest Buckner. Meanwhile, the Steelers will play RB Jaylen Warren, which could emphasize the performance of Justin Fields.

Running Back Concerns – Sit ‘Em for Week 4?

Javonte Williams – Denver Broncos at New York Jets

Javonte Williams remains the Denver Broncos’ starter as he has played no less than 51% of the snaps so far but is averaging 2.2 yards per carry on 24 attempts. The Broncos are not committed to him beyond this season and will need results sooner rather than later given the younger RBs on their depth chart, like Jalel, who could deserve more work.

The Jets’ defense hasn’t been elite through three games, but they still have enough talent to figure it out. Denver surprised the weakened Buccaneers team last week, but it’s unlikely they’ll have similar success in New York.

Who should you start instead?

Chuba Hubbard – Carolina Panthers vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Carolina Panthers offense looks competent with Andy Dalton at center. This is important not only for the pass catchers, but also for Chuba Hubbard and the backfield. Hubbard leads the RB room on a weekly basis and totaled 26 touches in the last game against Las Vegas. Carolina’s offensive line is better than its 2023 version and is evident in Hubbard’s career-high 5.2 average.

Cincinnati’s defense has lost key interior pieces on its line and ranks 24th overall and 17th against the rush. If Andy Dalton plays half as well as he did last week, Hubbard should be in for another big game.

Wide Receiver Concerns – Sit ‘Em for Week 4?

Michael Pittman Jr. – Indianapolis Colts vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Michael Pittman Jr. has rushed for 88 yards on 20 targets in three weeks. He’s a much better receiver than this production suggests, but Anthony Richardson’s growing pains this season will wear on him until their chemistry – and Richardson’s accuracy – corrects.

The Colts face a strong Steelers defense this week that ranks fifth against the pass. Indianapolis has had plenty of ground success thanks to the talents of Jonathan Taylor and the offensive line, but several OL players are injured this week. It makes sense to bench Pittman Jr. with Josh Downs back, Alec Pierce performing and Richardson struggling.

Who should you start instead?

Jakobi Meyers – Las Vegas Raiders vs. Cleveland Browns

Davante Adams is out this week with a hamstring injury, making Jakobi Meyers a good starting option across all formats. Meyers is a talented receiver, but his presence on offense is overshadowed by elite talents like Adams and Brock Bowers. If the Raiders had a better QB than Gardner Minshew, Meyers could produce regardless of the players around him. However, offenses with limited quarterback play tend to consolidate.

The Browns defense is talented, but Myles Garrett is banged up and they were average early in the season. Meyers had 9 targets last week against the Panthers and has seen an increase on a weekly basis. Unless the Raiders’ rushing attack miraculously revives, Meyers will be a crucial part of the game plan.

Adele and Bob Dylan songs banned from YouTube amid legal dispute

Adele and Bob Dylan songs banned from YouTube amid legal dispute

Songs by Adele, Bob Dylan, Green Day, REM, Burna Boy, Rush and many others are currently unplayable on YouTube in the US due to a legal dispute between the platform and performance rights organization SESAC.

Attempts to play many, but not all, of these artists’ songs on Saturday resulted in the following message: “This video contains content from SESAC. It is not available in your country.”

A similar dispute between Universal Music Group and TikTok lasted several months earlier this year before being resolved.

In a statement about this Diversity, A YouTube representative said: “We have been negotiating in good faith with SESAC to extend our existing contract. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we were unable to reach a fair agreement before the deadline. We take copyright very seriously and therefore the content represented by SESAC is no longer available on YouTube in the United States. We are in active discussions with SESAC and hope to reach a new agreement as soon as possible.” Representatives for SESAC did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A source familiar with the situation reports diversity that the previous deal actually doesn’t expire until next week, suggesting that YouTube’s move is a negotiating tactic. SESAC is far smaller than ASCAP and BMI – with around 30,000 members and 1.5 million compositions, while ASCAP has almost 800,000 members – but as the caliber of artists affected by the lockdown shows, it represents a comparatively large percentage of the market.

Performing rights organizations such as ASCAP, BMI and SESAC in the US collect royalties and help protect copyrights on behalf of songwriters and music publishers. They have the ability to block certain public performances of music — which includes everything from streaming to radio to music played in restaurants — although such bans are cumbersome and difficult to enforce, even for a platform as large as YouTube, as the seemingly scattered numbers show prove blockage of SESAC material on the platform at the moment.

Such blocks are legally complex and may affect other copyright holders (for example, a live recording of the British broadcaster BBC’s Green Day is currently available, suggesting litigation), although they may also reflect the sheer volume of videos that are blocked must be. Certain songs by Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and other artists are also affected, presumably because they are featured by songwriters affiliated with SESAC.

Fans quickly noticed the ban and received the following responses from the TeamYouTube account on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

“We hear you,” it says. “Our music licensing agreement with SESAC has expired without agreement on renewal terms, despite our best efforts. “For this reason, we have blocked content on YouTube in the US that is known to be associated with SESAC – in accordance with copyright law.”

Responding to frustrated follow-up tweets from users, the company said: “We understand this is a difficult situation and our teams continue to work to reach an extension agreement” and “We are continuing our discussions with SESAC to “I don’t have exact dates for future updates yet.”

Such suspensions often occur when rights holders (e.g. record labels, publishers and PROs) and a broadcaster cannot agree on a licensing agreement, and typically last no longer than a few days or weeks. But along with the heated UMG-TikTok battle earlier this year, such a dispute between YouTube and Warner Music Group led to Warner withdrawing its videos from the platform for about nine months in 2008 and 2009 before terms were reached became.

In recent years, YouTube’s formerly contentious relationship with music companies has become much more positive, ironically after the company hired former Warner recording chief Lyor Cohen as music chief in 2016. But as music fans learned on Saturday, disputes still arise.

diversity I will have more information on the situation as it develops.

Trump promises to ‘liberate’ Wisconsin from ‘mass migrant invasion’

Trump promises to ‘liberate’ Wisconsin from ‘mass migrant invasion’

In a fiery and rambling speech in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, former President Donald Trump vowed to “liberate” the state from what he described as an extreme influx of migrants, reiterating his tough stance on immigration as the 2024 presidential election campaign comes to a head.

As Trump addressed a crowd at the Prairie du Chien Area Arts Center on Saturday, he took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris, blaming her for what he said was a crisis at the southern border. “I will free Wisconsin from the mass migrant invasion,” Trump declared, adding, “We will free the country.”

The former president’s comments came just a day after Harris visited the U.S.-Mexico border, where she announced plans to further restrict asylum applications. Trump criticized Harris’ border visit and Fox News for broadcasting her comments, claiming: “Everything she says is lies.”

Republican presidential candidate, former U.S. President Donald Trump, watches a video of Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, during a campaign event at the Prairie Du Chien Area Arts Center on September 28, 2024…

Newsweek contacted both the Harris and Trump campaigns via email seeking comment on Saturday’s events.

Immigration remains a hot-button issue in Wisconsin and other swing states, and the former president is hoping to capitalize on voter frustration. Trump reiterated his controversial stance after previously calling illegal border crossers “poisoning the blood of the country.” He also promised to launch the “largest deportation operation in American history” if re-elected.

The event featured mugshots of people who were in the U.S. illegally and accused of crimes, including Alejandro Jose Coronel Zarate. Local police chief Kyle Teynor addressed the crowd and confirmed that Zarate, who was arrested on multiple charges including sexual assault, was not a U.S. citizen and had fake immigration documents.

Current polls show a close race in Wisconsin. According to the latest findings New York Times/Siena College Poll: Harris leads Trump by a slim 49 percent to 47 percent among likely voters in the state.

The timesThe /Siena poll, conducted Sept. 21-26, surveyed 680 likely voters and has a margin of error of about 4 percentage points. FiveThirtyEight polling averages for Wisconsin show Harris maintaining a narrow 2.1-point lead over Trump (48.8 percent to 46.7 percent).

A recent poll from Redfield and Wilton Strategies shows that 47 percent of respondents trust Trump on immigration, compared to 36 percent who trust Harris. That gap has narrowed in recent weeks, coinciding with a sharp decline in border crossings as a result of President Joe Biden’s executive order restricting asylum applications.

Harris’ tougher stance on border security reflects Democrats’ efforts to close the gap and changing public attitudes toward immigration. Gallup reports that 55 percent of voters — including nearly 30 percent of Democrats — support new immigration restrictions, the highest level recorded since 2001.

The contrasting approaches to immigration policy between Harris and Trump reflect broader ideological differences between the Democratic and Republican platforms. The Republican Party is making immigration a top priority, promising to secure the border and end what they call an “invasion.” In contrast, the Democratic platform emphasizes reforming the asylum system and balancing enforcement with humanitarian considerations.

Trump’s border policies during his presidency have focused on reducing unauthorized immigration, including partially building a border wall, expanding enforcement and imposing stricter asylum rules. His controversial “zero tolerance” policy, which led to family separations at the southern border, was widely criticized and eventually abandoned.

Harris supports comprehensive immigration reform, prioritizing humanitarian protections and a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, including “Dreamers.” She advocates modernizing legal immigration systems and portraying immigration as a benefit to the American economy and society.

Trump and other Republicans accused Harris of failing to implement these policies as vice president, blamed her for the increase in illegal border crossings and called her Biden’s “border czar.”

During the ABC News presidential debate, Trump made baseless claims about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, which were debunked. He has also promised mass deportations of migrants, a plan that has drawn skepticism from Democrats and some Republicans because of logistical challenges.
