The 370 Acts of Parliament created include legislation to abolish tuition fees and bridge tariffs, to give communities the right to buy land and to make it an offense if you fail to clean up after your dog.

But not all laws were successful.

MSPs have had two attempts to ban fox hunting. Offensive behavior in the Football Bill, aimed at tackling sectarianism, had to be repealed and the Gender Recognition Reform Bill was blocked by the Westminster government.

The Supreme Court also ruled that draft legislation to incorporate the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the European Charter of Local Self-Government into Scottish law in some respects exceeded Parliament’s powers and needed to be reconsidered.

At events marking the 25th anniversary, some people questioned whether Holyrood needed an audit chamber for better oversight.

Others argued the committee system needed to be strengthened, with elected conveners to ensure MSPs didn’t just rubber-stamp the wishes of the government in question. Holyrood’s Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee is conducting an inquiry into what could help committees work better.

Alabama football injury report: Update on Kendrick Law after Georgia game

Alabama football injury report: Update on Kendrick Law after Georgia game

Alabama football eked out a narrow victory on Saturday, fending off a furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt by Georgia to claim a 41-34 victory at Bryant-Denny Stadium. However, the Crimson Tide had one of their top wide receivers leave the game with an injury.

Kendrick Law left the game limping and did not return. After the game, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said Law suffered a “lower body injury” but could not elaborate on how long he would keep the junior out.

“I don’t know what he’s going to be,” DeBoer said. “But it’s unfortunate because I thought he really had a great week or two of training and was building a lot more as well. He was really excited before the game.”

Law had one catch for 19 yards on Saturday. He is also one of the Crimson Tide’s best run blockers.

DeBoer praised Law’s performance before leaving the game.

“I thought he did a good job just helping our offense,” DeBoer said. “Maybe there are things that don’t show up in the statistics, but unfortunately he wasn’t able to be with us the whole game.”

Alabama led 30-7 at halftime, but the Bulldogs came roaring back and claimed a lead late in the fourth quarter. But a circus-like deep catch for a touchdown by wide receiver Ryan Williams and an interception by Zabien Brown secured the victory late.

The Crimson Tide travels to Vanderbilt next Saturday.

The problem with the messed up Netflix show about the brothers.

The problem with the messed up Netflix show about the brothers.

Ryan Murphy has done it again (derogatory). Fresh from the popular success of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Storythe man behind it American horror story, JoyAnd Nip/Tuck is back with another deeply questionable true crime series. This time it’s about the murder of Kitty and José Menéndez by their sons Erik and Lyle in 1996 in Beverly Hills. The case caused a media sensation at the time. The prosecution argued that the brothers committed their crime to secure a huge inheritance, and the defense argued that they killed their parents in self-defense after years of grotesque sexual abuse at the hands of their father.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story it is a real crime made for a mass audience and is therefore inevitably sensationalized. Just as inevitably, Ryan Murphy and his co-creator Ian Brennan made the rounds justifying the series’ existence, reassuring people that they had the best intentions, and making a lot of noise about the sensitive way things were handled. “This season is about abuse,” Murphy said at the show’s New York premiere, “who is believed and who is not believed.” In Brennan’s words: “We finally have a vernacular for thinking about sexual abuse and mental health and to discuss things that didn’t exist back then.”

And inevitably, the show has also received significant backlash. When Dahmer came out, the families of the victims came forward and said that Murphy and Co. never contacted them during the creation of the program and that they found the series retraumatizing. The Menéndez family has strongly condemned this new show for being both lewd and defamatory, and critics have widely panned it, with particular focus on a scene in which the brothers incestuously shower together. This strikes me as particularly surprising considering there is no evidence that any of this happened, and one thing about true crimes is that they are at least supposed to be true. But laxity towards facts is not really the core problem The story of Lyle and Erik Menendez. The problem with this season of Monster is that it has no idea what portrait of the people at the center of the story it wants to paint.

I think Ryan Murphy knows that the “right” way to approach a story where it’s unclear whether certain things happened or not is to leave it ambiguous. That was certainly the reasoning here: in a trial, a jury is given two completely different perspectives on the same events and has to navigate with the two possibilities in mind at the same time. It doesn’t work here for several reasons. The first reason is that Murphy isn’t a good enough storyteller to be able to pull this off. The series as a whole is a mess. There are astonishingly long dinner party scenes that seem to serve only so that Nathan Lane, as journalist Dominick Dunne, can provide a vague background on the socio-political events in LA in the 1990s. It’s a shame that they put OJ Simpson in this role, also because they decided not to show his face, and so all the scenes he’s in bizarrely show us his legs or his back instead, but also because it meant that I was thinking about the excellent OJ: Made in America documentary series whenever he appeared. Murphy’s take on this period was far worse than the 2016 production The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Storyand here it’s even worse.

The second reason The story of Lyle and Erik Menendez doesn’t work is that the specific nature of the two possibilities I want you to keep in mind – whether two boys brutally murdered their parents in cold blood for money, or whether they did it because they had endured a lifetime of horrific sexual abuse – That means that in a series where the brothers are the protagonists and where we largely follow their perspectives, the characterization is a nightmare. Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) in particular is a cartoon devil, inventing the brothers’ abuse in some moments, a pitiful little boy in others, with little to no framework to help the audience understand whose point of view we’re in You can see different moments in these films of his.

It’s a headache to watch this show and understand what tone it deems striking. One episode consists of 29 minutes of a genuinely harrowing statement from one of the brothers about how his father raped him, filmed in one take. Elsewhere, Milli Vanilli’s “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You” plays as the two brothers are sent away to separate prisons for the rest of their natural lives, or we hear “Don’t Dream It’s Over” as the boys walk toward them her house to murder her mother and father. The show attempts to capitalize on the Tarantino-esque, aestheticized violent appeal of two young, rich, conventionally good-looking boys in ’80s prep gear and carrying shotguns while sensitively portraying the devastating effects of intergenerational sexual trauma. It is a doomed venture.

But the third and most important and obvious reason it doesn’t work is that the Menéndez brothers are real people. This is as big a true crime minefield as you can imagine. The defendants are alive, still in prison and serving life sentences. They still maintain their innocence and claim that they were victims of the worst abuse I have ever heard of. But instead of proceeding cautiously in this case, Murphy has decided to happily trudge through the minefield and take it in stride when the mines explode and he gets, shall we say, from the real people involved in these cases, or from critics, slaughtered by spectators. Erik Menéndez has already harshly criticized Murphy, accusing him of “disheartening slander” and “vile and appalling character portrayals.”

Cynically, however, Murphy’s approach makes sense. Why not do that when experience tells him he will miraculously escape unscathed and still get the support for another show? It seems that’s the lesson Netflix and Murphy have learned Dahmer It didn’t “seem that the real people involved in these cases were pretty traumatized by the poor taste of what we did, maybe we shouldn’t have done it,” but rather, “a lot of people were watching.” “Let’s go again.” Not surprising, I guess, but still disgusting.

If that was the calculation, then they were right. A lot of people actually watched Monster. Not as many as Dahmerbut it was still #1 on Netflix the week it was released. So tastelessness and moral dubiousness be damned, I guess we’ll be doing it all again in two years. Time.

Strictly fans were left stunned when the first eviction spoiler leaked online, despite the boss’s efforts to keep the secret under wraps

STRICTLY fans have shared their shock after learning who has been axed from the show after the results were leaked online.

The spectacular show lasted over two hours and was full of glitz, glamour, fancy footwork and a real mix of criticism and praise from the judges.

The first elimination will be shown on the results show tonight, but an infamous mole has spoiled the result once again.

The Sun has decided not to reveal the celebrity who was evicted, but those who saw the name are stunned at who ended up in the dance-off.

One viewer fumed: “How can they seriously save who they saved?!”

A second retweeted the spoiler results on his X account, writing: “Give up… This makes me so sad.”

A third posted: “Sorry but what a spoiler is this,” followed by sad emojis.

This person shared: “I read the #StrictlySpoiler and found out who was eliminated. Kind of shocked.”

While another added: “People who post spoilers for rival TV shows #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing really are the worst.”
Like why???”

Love Island star Tasha Ghouri and her pro partner Aljaz Škorjanec top the leaderboard with a solid score of 65 – as last week’s results were added to tonight’s.

Tasha’s father broke down in tears as the pair broke the record for the highest scoring Viennese waltz in Week 2 in Strictly history.

Meanwhile, there was an extremely emotional moment for actor and singer Shayne Ward, who bravely opened up about the “difficult week” he’s had.

Strictly Come Dancing – Chris McCausland massively attacks Craig Revel Horwood after brutal goal.mp4

After making his dance floor debut with Nancy Xu last week, Shayne found himself the victim of cruel trolls.

He admitted: “It’s been a very tough week. I just focus on the people who love me, that’s all that matters.”

Head judge Shirley Ballas also pointed out the difficult time Shayne was going through behind the scenes.

“Well, here I am head judge and I feel a bit like Mother Hen,” she told him after his tango with Nancy.

“I’ve seen how your week has gone, and it hasn’t been the most pleasant in any way.

“But I want you to keep your confidence because you’re a great dancer, you concentrate hard, you’re willing to learn and I know how nervous you get backstage.”

“You’re just a wonderful, wonderful hard worker.”

While Tasha and Aljaz topped the leaderboard, Miranda star Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola took second place with 62.

’80s punk icon Toyah Willcox finished at the bottom along with Neil Jones, earning a combined score of 30.

Strictly will be back for the first results show of the series on Sunday evening.

In addition to the professionals, judges Shirley, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke will also appear.

Priyadarshan on reuniting with Akshay Kumar

Priyadarshan on reuniting with Akshay Kumar

Yas Island: Filmmaker Priyadarshan says he is thrilled to work again with Akshay Kumar, star of his comedies like ‘Hera Pheri“,”Bhool Bhulaiyaa” And “Bhagam Bhag“, for the horror comedy”Bhoot Bangla” after a break of 14 years.

Their last film together was “Khatta Meetha“, a political satire from 2010.

“Every film I did with him was a superhit. People say you are the reason Akshay (does comedy) but I don’t believe in all these things. I took advantage of his sense of humor (on screen).

“We are working after 14 years and I hope it works. It’s a challenge. We can’t live up to (audience’s) expectations, but I’m trying my best,” said the filmmaker PTI in an interview on the sidelines of the IIFA Awards here.

Priyadarshan told Kumar, with whom he has also worked, “De Dana Dan” And “Garam masala“, is a “director’s delight”.

“He is a disciplined actor. According to Amit ji (Amitabh Bachchan), he is a man who is a dedicated actor and comes on time. He listens to the director,” he said.

The veteran director is also looking forward to the release of the third part of the horror-comedy series.Bhool Bhulaiyaa“, which will hit the big screens this Diwali festival.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3The film is directed by Anees Bazmee, who also directed the 2022 sequel. The second part was a spiritual sequel to Priyadarshan’s 2007 film of the same name, which starred Kumar and Vidya Balan.

“Anees Bazmee has done a good job with the second part of ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’. I think he will do well in the third part too,” said Priyadarshan.

While the first part of the franchise was directed by Kumar, Kartik Aaryan was a part of the second ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’.

For the third installment, Aaryan has reprised his role as Rooh Baba, who has to face the ghost of Manjulika, the iconic character played by Balan, star of the original 2007 ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’.

Triptii Dimri is the new entry in the franchise while Tabu and Kiara Advani were the lead actresses of the second part.

Priyadarshan said he was “not interested” in making sequels to his own films. However, he was asked to direct the second part of his hit films, including “Hungama“,”Malamaal Weekly“,”Garam masala“, And “De Dana Dhan“.

“I believe a film can be made (only) once, and if the film works really well, people enjoy it. Expectations (are there), maybe you get the first ones (audience numbers), but there’s always that thing that ‘it worked’. “It doesn’t live up to the expectations of the first part.”

“That is the criticism we are faced with. I think it’s better to make a movie than sequels. I prefer other people to make sequels (of my films).” At the IIFA Utsavam on Friday evening, Priyadarshan was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema Award.

Hoher Return on Investment (ROI)

Inhalte in Kurzform

What might come next as Hezbollah suffers from Nasrallah’s assassination and Israel considers the possibility of a ground attack on Lebanon?

What might come next as Hezbollah suffers from Nasrallah’s assassination and Israel considers the possibility of a ground attack on Lebanon?

CNN

The past 48 hours in the Middle East – in which Israel killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and continued to bomb the Iran-backed group across Lebanon – have renewed fears that this long-running conflict could escalate into a larger regional war.

The killing of Nasrallah in a series of massive Israeli airstrikes on his underground headquarters in Beirut on Friday represents a significant escalation in the conflict between Israel and the Lebanon-based militant group, which has been firing on Israel since the start of the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

It is also the latest in a series of major blows for Hezbollah, which has now lost several commanders and was already reeling after its members’ pagers and walkie-talkies exploded earlier this month, killing dozens of people and maiming thousands.

Israel has warned that a “new era” of war would begin if its “center of gravity” shifts north, referring to the Lebanese border. One of its stated war goals is the return of tens of thousands of its own civilians who were displaced by cross-border fighting.

Lebanese government officials say hundreds of thousands have been displaced inside Lebanon due to recent fighting, while more than a thousand have been killed since airstrikes escalated last week.

Israel has raised the possibility of a ground attack into Lebanon, which, if carried out, would be the fourth Israeli invasion of the country in the last 50 years.

Hezbollah has vowed it will “continue its struggle to confront the enemy,” while Iran, which supports the group as part of its network of regional proxies, has pledged its solidarity.

Here’s what we know so far and where it might go next.

Israel reportedly struck Hezbollah targets in the Lebanese capital Beirut and elsewhere in the country on Friday and Saturday, including the attack on the capital’s southern suburbs that killed Nasrallah.

Some of the strikes occurred in densely populated areas, with residential buildings being leveled. Israel has said Hezbollah stores weapons in civilian buildings, which the group denies, and accuses Hezbollah of using residents as “human shields.”

Lebanese civilians say they cannot heed Israeli military warnings to avoid places where Hezbollah operates because the group is extremely secretive. The warnings often come just a few minutes before a building is hit.

Residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs are fleeing Israeli bombardment. Many sleep in public places and no longer have space in makeshift accommodation.

Smoke rises from a building following an Israeli airstrike in Beirut, Lebanon, September 28, 2024.

The latest attacks came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a ceasefire proposal brokered by the United States and France that called for a 21-day pause in fighting on the Israel-Lebanon border.

The White House said it had “no knowledge of or involvement in Israel’s Friday attack on Beirut.” US President Joe Biden called Nasrallah’s death a “measure of justice for his many victims”, including Americans, and called for de-escalation in conflicts across the Middle East.

The US sees the possibility of a limited ground attack in Lebanon as Israel moves troops to its northern border, CNN previously reported, citing a senior administration official and a US official. However, the officials stressed that Israel appears to have not yet made a decision on whether to carry out a ground attack.

Israel Defense Forces spokesman Peter Lerner said earlier Saturday that the military was preparing for the possibility of a ground attack, but that it was only one option being considered.

In the wake of Nasrallah’s assassination – and the attack on pagers and walkie-talkies – Hezbollah’s remaining leaders will likely ponder how to meet, communicate and respond.

Some of the factors that will influence this response – such as the extent to which Israeli strikes have depleted the group’s ammunition – remain unknown. However, analysts say the setbacks the group has faced are unlikely to completely weaken it.

“Hezbollah has suffered the biggest blow to its military infrastructure since its founding,” said Hanin Ghaddar, senior fellow at the Washington Institute and author of “Hezbollahland.”

However, the group still has qualified commanders as well as many of its most powerful forces – including precision-guided missiles and long-range missiles that could cause significant damage to Israel’s military and civilian infrastructure, Ghaddar said.

To date, there has been no major rocket fire from Hezbollah that has caused significant damage to Israeli targets. And even after Nasrallah’s assassination, the group has yet to launch a major retaliatory strike on a scale that could overwhelm Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system and compromise its power grid.

Israel's Iron Dome air defense system fires to intercept missiles fired from Lebanon, seen from Safed in northern Israel, September 28, 2024.

But recent developments open up the potential for change.

According to Jonathan Panikoff, a former senior intelligence official specializing in the region, Hezbollah will almost certainly respond.

Another important question is to what extent Iran might interfere.

The state appeared wary of falling into direct conflict with Israel, even as its long-running shadow war has become even more public in recent months – and observers say direct Iranian retaliation is also pushing the US further into the conflict could pull in.

A senior U.S. official said the U.S. believes Iran will intervene in the conflict if it believes it is about to “lose” Hezbollah. According to this official and another person familiar with the intelligence, the combined impact of Israel’s operations against Hezbollah had already driven hundreds of fighters from the battlefield.

The Iranian embassy in Lebanon called Nasrallah’s killing a “serious escalation that changes the rules of the game” in a social media post on Friday and said the perpetrator would be “appropriately punished and disciplined.”

Iran’s envoy to the United Nations also called for an emergency Security Council meeting on Saturday to “strongly condemn Israel’s actions.”

But the scope for diplomacy appears to be limited, especially since months of work on a ceasefire agreement for the war in Gaza have brought little lasting progress.

Aaron David Miller, a former US State Department Middle East negotiator, pointed out to CNN the ongoing conflicts between Israel and Hamas, between Israel and Hezbollah and between Israel and Iran: “None of these wars of attrition are going to end any time soon… there are no transformative, diplomatic Hollywood endings.”

“At best it is a question of deterrence, management and perhaps, if Hezbollah, the Israelis and the Iranians are open to it… agreements that contain the conflict,” he said.

North Dakota St. dominates Illinois St. 42-10 to open Valley play

North Dakota St. dominates Illinois St. 42-10 to open Valley play

NORMAL, IL (Valley News Live) – The North Dakota St. Bison started Valley play on Saturday with perhaps their most complete win of the season, a 42-10 win over Illinois St. on the road.

NDSU rushed for 307 yards, including 100 from Marty Brown, making him the first Bison rusher with consecutive 100-yard games in two years.

Sheyenne graduate Barika Kpeenu also scored two touchdowns, one through the air and one on the ground.

And unsurprisingly, Cam Miller was once again doing Cam Miller things under center, going 20/23 passing for 216 yards and three touchdowns.

It is Miller’s 15th career 200-yard passing game, which now ranks as the most ever for a North Dakota St. quarterback.

Now the Bison will look to avenge last year’s loss to the Fighting Hawks when UND and North Dakota St. face off at the Fargodome on Oct. 5 at 2:30 p.m
