Noisy vacations should be the next trend in the workplace

Noisy vacations should be the next trend in the workplace

Last year saw the rise of “quiet vacation” A trend that saw more and more employees taking time off work without informing their managers or logging the days in their HR platform. While quiet holidays are likely to continue to prevail US work culturea human resources manager believes she has a solution.

Jennifer Kraszewski, CHRO at HR software solutions company Paycom, advises employers to embrace “noisy vacation,” a term she coined that focuses on the idea that employees feel encouraged to plan, discuss and commit to their vacation be happy vacation days. Employees should be proud that they are taking time off to recharge, Kraszewski emphasizes.

“Speaking vacation means you can take a vacation without feeling guilty,” she says. “PTO is a benefit that companies offer their employees. Therefore, it is important that employees use this PTO to its fullest extent, and managers should encourage employees to do just that.”

Read more: Why employers should add SAFE leave to their PTO options

According to Paycom, 78% of American workers are not using the maximum amount of PTO available, and 75% wish they could take available days off. It’s clear there’s a vacation problem in the U.S., and while employers may attribute this to understaffing or employees feeling like they have too much work to do, Kraszewski believes it’s time for leaders to stop making excuses to find.

“People are hesitant to take their allotted vacation because they’re worried about coverage of the team or their next promotion,” she says. “But you are more productive and engaged when you can take time off from work.”

For Kraszewski, it’s obvious that the reluctance to completely withdraw from work has evolved into a trend for quiet vacations. Employees don’t want to let their team down or show their managers that they’re committed – either way, they can’t fully concentrate on themselves or their work.

Read more: Do your unlimited PTO policies actually work?

“People want to appear as if they are working when they are actually not working or are doing a little work on vacation,” says Kraszewski. “They want their leaders to feel like they’re working really hard, which leads to more burnout.”

Kraszewski suggests that employers ask company leaders to change their approach to vacation. Instead of viewing PTO requests as a potential burden on the team or evidence of laziness, managers should view them as something positive for the entire team, explains Kraszewski.

Read more: It’s the holiday season – here’s how to handle mass PTO requests

One key action managers can take to encourage a noisy vacation culture is to encourage employees to plan their long-term vacations in advance. This helps managers figure out how to complete necessary tasks while the employee is away and also gives employees something to look forward to. In the meantime, managers can have positive conversations about upcoming PTO as well as more logistical conversations about workload and day-to-day responsibilities: They can ask employees what they’d like to do in their free time and check what work needs to be covered while they’re out.

Combined with the right HR technology, it has become more efficient to track when people are using PTO and what coverage is needed. The last thing managers should do is get caught up in trying to figure out who’s out when. This time can be better spent talking to employees and preparing for absences that might accompany important appointments or meetings.

“If you allow your employees to use the PTO available to them, they will drive away, charge up, come back and have plenty of fuel in the tank to tackle the next challenge on the horizon,” she says. “I know that some of my best ideas and thoughts came when I was unplugged and away from the office.”

‘No quick kills’: Court hears details about a Winnipeg couple accused of making videos depicting animal cruelty

‘No quick kills’: Court hears details about a Winnipeg couple accused of making videos depicting animal cruelty

WARNING: This story contains disturbing details.

Details are emerging about a Winnipeg couple who have been charged after police say they made and sold videos showing animals being tortured and crushed.

Chad Kabecz, 40, and Irene Lima, 55, were arrested Oct. 9 after police executed a search warrant at a home in Winnipeg’s Lord Roberts neighborhood and charged with numerous offenses, including killing or injuring animals and causing harm unnecessary suffering for human animals, Winnipeg police said last week.

During a bail hearing for Kabecz on Tuesday, Crown attorney Sean Sass alleged that Kabecz and Lima, Kabecz’s girlfriend and known online as “Goddess May,” are the owners and operators of a website on the dark web called Goddess May Barefoot Premium be crushing.

The prosecutor alleged that the two made videos of animals, particularly cats and kittens, that Lima crushed with her feet.

“These are not quick kills. As the timestamps appear to show, some of these videos are five minutes long. “It is staged, deliberate torture that results in the death of very vulnerable animals,” Sass told Provincial Court Judge David Ireland Kabecz’s bail hearing.

The court heard that in August, a City of Winnipeg animal control officer notified police about an anonymous tip he received from a user of the “dark web” – online content that doesn’t show up in regular online searches and is specifically designed to be accessed Software is required. The tipster discovered the website Barefoot Premium Crush and believed the couple was from Manitoba.

Winnipeg police began investigating and found an account on the social media site Reddit called “Fit Foot Lover” that they believed belonged to Kabecz.

    Tipster has flagged content

On the Reddit page, Kabecz talked about Lima’s feet and referred to his dark website.

“For anyone following my girlfriend’s infatuation adventures, please DM me [direct message] “I know how to find your newly formed group somewhere else,” one Reddit post reads.

Sass said the tipster continued to interact with Kabecz on Reddit and received instructions on where to find the videos and how to pay. The person took screenshots of the exchange and turned them over to police, Sass said.

Other screenshots taken by the anonymous source show the graphic nature of the destruction site.

The homepage shows “an extremely graphic image that appears to show a bare foot on an animal,” said Sass. “It’s unrecognizable.”

A front-page headline described it as “a place to exchange hard-core crushes barefoot.”

“Previews of May’s work will be posted and her content will be available for purchase. Each member must provide a Barefoot Hard Crush video before participating, for further details please send a DM,” the website reads.

Court hears gruesome details about accused Winnipeg cat killers

At a bail hearing for one of the people accused of killing and torturing cats and other animals, prosecutor Sean Sass said videos of animals being trampled underfoot had been marketed on the dark web.

Sass said asking customers to provide their own crush videos was a way for Kabecz to act as a gatekeeper.

Other posts on the site purportedly written by Kabecz detail a long history of animal cruelty in Lima.

“May is 55 and has loved it since she was a little girl and she does it for her own satisfaction and pleasure,” the website says.

“She crushes barefoot because she enjoys it, because it brings her extreme satisfaction, even to the point of orgasm, without being touched. She’s one in a million.”

Police who searched the home earlier this month seized a cat carrier, several cellphones, a computer, Lima’s diary and a blue Tupperware container seen on video allegedly containing cats, the court heard.

They also collected some blood samples found in the suite, USB drives and other items.

    “Unacceptable risk” with publication: Crown

At Kabecz’s bail hearing on Tuesday, defense attorney Ethan Pollock said his client was innocent until proven guilty.

“The [hearing] “It is essentially a risk assessment where we determine whether or not Mr. Kabecz can be released back into the community under conditions,” Pollock said. “My client can take the position of defense attorney.”

Sass argued that releasing Kabecz “would pose an unacceptable risk.”

“There are animals everywhere, there are squirrels, rabbits, strays, and his comments seem to indicate that they will find them anywhere and just start killing them,” the Crown attorney said.

Kabecz was eventually released on bail on the condition that he stay with his family and have no contact with Lima or animals. He is also not allowed to access the Internet.

He is due back in court on November 5th.

Lima was in court Thursday, but her case was remanded and will be rescheduled.

None of the allegations against Kabecz or Lima have been proven in court.

Texas Senate candidates make campaign stops in Lubbock ahead of early voting

Texas Senate candidates make campaign stops in Lubbock ahead of early voting

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Texas is just days away from polls opening for early voters in the November election. One of the closest races on the ballot: the Texas Senate seat on Capitol Hill.

Political tracker FiveThirtyEight puts incumbent Republican Ted Cruz just four percentage points ahead of challenger Congressman Colin Allred of Dallas.

With a razor-thin lead, both candidates are hoping to win support in cities across the state like Lubbock.

Senator Cruz stopped at the Texas Cafe and Bar today, and Representative Allred visited Texas Tech on Saturday.

“I think every election should be decided by comparing the results of both candidates,” Cruz said. “When Congressman Allred speaks, he claims to be bipartisan. If you look at his record, you can see that he is extreme and radical.”

“Senator Cruz is the only radical in this race,” Allred said. “I have been named by third-party groups as the most bipartisan congressman in Texas.”

Cruz today highlighted his 12 years in the Senate, saying he has continually fought for jobs, freedom and security – the three pillars of his campaign.

“I-27, the Ports to Plains Corridor, will begin in Laredo and go north through West Texas, through the Panhandle, through New Mexico and into Montana,” Cruz said. “I-27 will create thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in investment here in West Texas.”

Allred also highlighted his legislative track record with measures that benefited the South Plains.

“In the legislation that I voted for with the Chips and Sciences Act, the infrastructure bill that Senator Cruz voted against, millions of dollars are flowing into the Panhandle,” Allred said.

While the two candidates have different ideas about how to help rural areas across the state, both acknowledged the importance of reaching out to these regions.

“I’m really looking forward to combating some of what I’m seeing in rural communities, particularly the ongoing health care and infrastructure crises,” Allred said.

Cruz addressed the lack of a farm bill that expired in September and its impact on farmers and ranchers in the South Plains.

“For a farmer, the cost of everything has skyrocketed – the cost of seeds, the cost of new equipment and, most importantly, the cost of energy. There will be a victory in November. I believe that Donald Trump will be elected, I believe that we will have a Republican Senate and a Republican House of Representatives, and if we do that, we will pass a farm bill,” Cruz said.

Early voting begins Monday, October 21st and continues through November 1st. Election day is November 5th.

Steve Harvey gives ,000 of his own money to man dying in family dispute

Steve Harvey was taken aback when he asked a contestant on Family Feud why his tears continued to flow after winning the $20,000 prize.

“He finally won the $20,000 and just fell to his knees and wouldn’t stop crying,” Steve Harvey said. “I talked to him after the show and said, ‘Hey man, you were pretty emotional about the $20,000.'”

Then Steve learns shocking news about the man. “He says, ‘Steve, I’m terminally ill. I have three months left to live and I cannot get insurance due to my illness. I need this money for my family.’”

Japan general election: What would it take to topple the ruling LDP party? | Japan

Japan general election: What would it take to topple the ruling LDP party? | Japan

With months of financial scandals, a cost-of-living crisis and unpopular leaders, some could be forgiven for anticipating the end of Japan’s troubled ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), which has been in power for most of the past seven decades.

The Oct. 27 election will take place a year earlier than many expected after former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida unexpectedly resigned following record-low approval ratings and public anger over his party’s apparent reliance on “monetary politics.”

His successor, Shigeru Ishiba, was chosen by party lawmakers and rank-and-file members last month to revive the LDP’s fortunes and extinguish the flames of a factional war in which Ishiba narrowly fended off a challenge from the party’s right.

But even at a time of political turmoil, polls suggest many expect the party to go into the 465-seat general election reasonably confident that it will be back in office for a fifth consecutive term.

Some polls even showed the LDP would retain its majority, helped by projected low turnout and a divided opposition. A Kyodo News Agency poll last weekend showed the LDP at 26.4%, well ahead of the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party at 12.4%.

However, a new Nikkei poll suggests the party may fail to secure a majority – a result the business daily says would “potentially set the stage for political unrest not seen since 2009.” gave more” when the party last lost a majority in the House election.

The LDP aims to retain at least 233 seats to secure an absolute majority – a modest goal given the current total of 256 seats.

    A prime minister under pressure

The party’s dominance of Japan’s postwar political landscape was not absolute. In 2009, voters ousted the LDP in a surprise result that saw the left-leaning Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) take office under Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama. This time, the traditionally fragmented opposition had achieved a level of unity that made the DPJ a serious electoral contender.

Analysts attributed the DPJ’s victory to the fallout from the 2008 global financial crisis, a widening income gap, a devastating scandal involving the loss of millions of pension records and the LDP’s deeply unpopular Prime Minister Taro Aso, whose approval ratings for the cabinet before the election had fallen to just over 16%.

However, the LDP’s time in the wilderness was short-lived. Hatoyama remained in office for less than a year because he was unable to fulfill his campaign promise to reduce the US military burden on the southern island of Okinawa. His two successors fared little better, and normal service resumed at the end of 2012 with the election of an LDP government under Shinzo Abe.

Tobias Harris, founder of consultancy Japan Foresight, said Ishiba could struggle to introduce legislation if the LDP and Komeito combined lose enough seats to weaken the coalition’s control of key parliamentary committees.

That would “not only fundamentally undermine his claim to be an electoral asset to the party … but also jeopardize any efforts to clean up, modernize and unify the party under his leadership,” Harris said.

Ishiba’s victory in the LDP leadership race raised hopes that a softer version of the LDP would emerge from the upheavals of recent months. He is widely seen as a moderate alternative to the ultra-conservative Sanae Takaichi, his main rival.

The 67-year-old, a soft-spoken former banker whose hobby is building model fighter planes and ships, had indicated that he supported same-sex marriage, reigning empresses and the right of married couples to have different surnames – social and cultural changes , which his party is going through, contrary to public opinion.

Ishiba had also vowed to take tougher action against LDP lawmakers who had plunged the party into crisis after it emerged that they had diverted unreported profits from the sale of party event tickets into secret illicit coffers. There are also concerns about his party’s ties to the scandal-hit Unification Church.

But in an apparent attempt to appease his right-wing opponents within the LDP, Ishiba has backtracked since becoming prime minister, telling parliament last week that the married surname law – in which women almost always take their husband’s name – and changing the ban on gay marriage “requires further consideration.” He declined to comment on any reforms to Japan’s male-only succession laws.

Critics also accused him of not keeping promises to deal with the financing scandal. The LDP has refused to support 12 candidates accused of serious crimes but will not oppose them in the election. Ishiba has said they might even be readmitted to the LDP if they win.

And although a record 314 women will be vying for seats – female MPs currently make up just over a tenth of all members of the House of Commons – the House of Commons is not expected to look dramatically different. About 10% of all candidates come from political families, including Ishiba, who “inherited” his father’s former seat in rural Tottori Prefecture in 1986.

Napa is getting its first Costco, with the long-awaited store reflecting its Wine Country location

Napa is getting its first Costco, with the long-awaited store reflecting its Wine Country location

Excitement is growing among Napa and surrounding areas as the city will open its first Costco, a store that will be tailored specifically to the Wine Country location.

The grand opening of the new club warehouse, located at 280 Riversound Way, off Highway 221, will take place on Friday.

For the past few days, people have been camping out, setting up chairs and tents outside the store, waiting to be the first customers.

Costco management told KTVU that the first campers showed up on Saturday or Sunday last weekend and the line has since expanded.

Customers can expect the store to recognize its Wine Country location.

“The wine selection will be one of the largest at our grand openings,” management said.

SEE ALSO: H Mart, the cult-favorite Asian grocery chain, is opening a new store in the Bay Area

The new building is part of a decade-long residential and commercial redevelopment project called Riversound.

The 154,000 square foot store will include a gas station and electric vehicle charging station at its location.

The store is a key anchor and driving force of Napa’s vision for integrating “light industrial” zones into the city, zones described as more consumer-oriented and less capital and energy intensive compared to heavy industrial areas.

“The new Costco in Riversound is a great example of how modern businesses can bridge the line between retail and light industry,” the city of Napa said in an economic development news release in July. “Although Costco is known primarily as a retail store, it also includes extensive warehousing and distribution operations,” city officials added.

The city also said the retailer will create more jobs for the community and be an important source of revenue.

“Costco is expected to become the largest single source of sales tax revenue for the city. This influx of revenue will provide critical funding for city services and infrastructure improvements, benefiting all residents,” Napa officials said.

The Napa Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday morning at 7:30 a.m

The Napa location is expected to be followed by another major Costco opening in the Bay Area, as the company prepares to open a warehouse in Pleasanton next month.

Bo Nix throws his worst pass of the season, missing two wide open receivers on one play

Bo Nix throws his worst pass of the season, missing two wide open receivers on one play

The Denver Broncos and the New Orleans Saints met Thursday Night Football in Week 7, giving Prime Video viewers the QB battle between Bo Nix and Spencer Rattler they’ve been wanting all season. The duel quickly lived up to the non-existent hype as both teams had to take their first possessions.

On Denver’s first drive, Bo Nix caught two first downs with his legs before throwing three consecutive incomplete passes to set up the punt. One of those throws was really bad, as Nix overthrew an open receiver and underthrew another open receiver on the same play.

Tight end Lucas Krull and wide receiver Troy Franklin had both sneaked behind the defense and got free. Nix, unable to get to his feet despite the fact that he had a clean pocket and two open teammates, put it right between them.

Amazingly, the Broncos scored on their next three drives and took a 13-0 lead midway through the second quarter.

The Death of Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar and the Future of the Middle East

The Death of Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar and the Future of the Middle East

JJust as the elimination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah a month ago opened new opportunities for peace in the Middle East, Thursday’s death of long-secretive Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar accelerates the Middle East’s transformation toward a safer and more prosperous future.

To assess the possibilities, it is important to understand Sinwar’s importance as a leader. There is no doubt that the elimination of Sinwar is an opportunity, not a tragedy. Sinwar was no ordinary terrorist. He was known for his brutality against Gazans and Israelis alike. Sinwar, an early Hamas member, became known among his fellow Gazans in the 1980s as the “Butcher of Khan Younis” for his unique cruelty in punishing Palestinians accused of collaborating with Israel. After Israel arrested Sinwar in 1988, Sinwar spent two decades in Israeli prisons learning to read and speak Hebrew fluently, studying Israeli history and society, and mastering the workings of Israel’s political and military systems.

Even in prison, Sinwar remained a leader of Hamas, which violently seized control of the Gaza Strip in 2007 by expelling the democratically elected Palestinian Authority and often throwing Palestinian Authority and Fatah officials off roofs. And after Sinwar was released in a prisoner swap and returned to Gaza in 2011, Sinwar’s reputation as bloodthirsty increased, including by killing a senior Hamas commander for homosexuality, despite pleas from other Hamas leaders for leniency.

No one should mourn Sinwar’s death, especially not the Palestinians. He treated the residents of Gaza as if they were all ready to be martyrs – only he never asked them if they wanted to be martyrs. In fact, the deaths of over 40,000 Gazans since last year should be attributed to Sinwar, who appeared to have no strategy to win the war he single-handedly started, other than the foolish hope that Iran would save him (which it didn’t was the case). t) or the belief that small protests among far-left groups on U.S. college campuses would pressure Israel to end its election campaign.

Most importantly, the elimination of Sinwar is accompanied by the degradation of Hamas – with the destruction of 23 of Hamas’s 24 battalions as well as a significant part of its military infrastructure (weapons depots, weapons laboratories and production facilities, and tunnels), including 90% of Hamas’s. of Hamas rockets – revives long-dormant possibilities for peace and brings closer the chances for peace and prosperity in the region. They may seem impossible and distant today, but Sinwar’s death creates a moment to be cherished.

None of this will happen overnight. It is hard to believe that Israel would immediately end all military operations, as some optimistic reports suggest, especially given that Hamas still holds many Israeli hostages. But Israel has an interest in ensuring that its remarkable military and intelligence successes are translated into political outcomes. And Israel is in a position to declare that, based on its military successes, it is ready to end the war in Gaza provided the hostages are released. Hamas may not respond immediately, but Israel can reframe the problem and remind the world of the hostages and that it is Hamas that continues to subject Gaza’s population to destruction. Furthermore, as long as Hamas and Hezbollah are unwilling to end the fighting, Israel can continue to destroy their warfighting capabilities and reduce the chance that they could ever again pose an existential threat to Israel’s survival. Israel has already dramatically weakened Iran’s so-called “Axis of Resistance.” This serves America’s interests in the region, as does the elimination of as many terrorists on the US most wanted list in recent months.

The opportunities for viable political, diplomatic and economic plans for long-term peace and prosperity in the region are closer to realization than ever before, but key participants, and in particular Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, must muster the political will to seize these opportunities. He cannot allow nationalists in his coalition to define what is possible.

The long-term political, diplomatic and economic possibilities are enticing, starting with the political stabilization and economic development of a demilitarized Gaza Strip. Gaza is finally ready to free itself from Hamas’ despotic rule, opening up the real possibility for the people of Gaza of a future filled with hope rather than endless wars and despair.

With the exception of a few far-right voices, few in Israel want to be stuck in Gaza forever, responsible for three million Palestinians and facing likely uprisings. Arab states could play a transitional role in managing and providing security and serve as a bridge to a yet-to-emerge viable Palestinian alternative. The Palestinian Authority is too weak and corrupt to play this role today, and comprehensive reforms are required if it is ever to credibly govern a Palestinian state.

But the potential for economic development should not be ignored either, because Gaza’s great economic potential is undeniable. In 2018, one of us, Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, supported Jared Kushner at the Peace to Prosperity conference in Bahrain, which promoted the Abraham Accords and a global investment fund to boost the economies of the Palestinian and neighboring Arab states and finance a 5- Billion-dollar transport corridors have been unveiled connecting the West Bank and Gaza. We have seen firsthand how leading Arab business leaders have sought to capitalize on Gaza’s many natural advantages and the entrepreneurial dynamism of its people.

The potential for long-term political and economic stabilization of the Gaza Strip – as well as a potential Hezbollah-free Lebanon on Israel’s northern border – is strengthened by the extraordinary diplomatic realignment of the Middle East and the increasing alignment with Israel against a common adversary: Iran, today is weaker, deprived of its proxy groups and exposed as increasingly toothless. This realignment was the central tenet of Kushner’s Abraham Accords, and the Biden administration has continued building this emerging coalition with a potential U.S.-Saudi defense deal and associated Saudi normalization with Israel. But treaty or no treaty, the direction is already clear, as Israel, the Gulf Arab states and its allies become increasingly dynamic magnets for business investment, entrepreneurial talent and modernization, while Iran and its allies fall far behind.

In 2018, Sinwar told the citizens of Gaza: “We will tear down the border.” [with Israel] and rip their hearts out of their bodies.” In fact, borders with Israel are being closed across the Middle East, but not in the way Sinwar intended.
