The rot, the carnage and what’s in the basement

The rot, the carnage and what’s in the basement

Before I get to the meat of this review, I would like to make a request: Can we please nominate Harold Perrineau for an Emmy? His appearance on today’s episode of OUT OF on MGM+ was simply outstanding.

That’s what the episode itself was like. Much of it dealt with the fallout from Tian-Chen’s tragic death last week. Through Boyd’s flashbacks, we get a few more glimpses of this horrific scene. It’s cruel and hard to watch. In a series with a lot of blood and violence, this was still one of the most horrific moments we’ve ever seen.

As day breaks in Fromville, they find Boyd in the barn, muttering to himself in Chinese. After being released, he rushes towards Tian-Chen’s body, crying. “I’m so sorry,” he says. “I am so sorry.” It’s heartbreaking.

They later hold a funeral for her after Kristi and Jade do their best to make her body presentable. It’s a really moving scene. There are a lot of them in this episode. Kenny and Jim return to town with the bounty of vegetables they found, only to learn the terrible news. Poor Kenny lost both his parents to this place. When Boyd later reveals that he was forced to watch and repeats the line Tian-Chen told him, Kenny collapses again.

But it’s not just an emotional episode. There are also some pretty big reveals and two new mysteries to unravel. We’ll start with that.

  • The first new mystery is Fatima’s very scary pregnancy. She was sick. She can’t keep the food down and even the smell of it makes her sick. She spits blood. There’s something wrong with her teeth. They visit Marielle and she says everything seems normal, but she doesn’t exactly work with the latest medical technology. Later, when Fatima sees the bushels of spoiled vegetables, she smells them and we immediately know that it smells good to her. She grabs a handful of the blue-rotted roots and begins to eat ravenously. I think it’s safe to say that that’s whatever is inside her not a human baby. I have a very bad feeling about it.
  • The second big mystery occurs at the very end of the episode, when the phone rings in Jim’s house. He records it nervously and at first all we hear is noise. Then a little boy’s voice comes from the other end. “Dad,” says the boy. “It’s Thomas.” Thomas, who died as an infant when he fell off the changing table. I’m not sure what to make of it, but I feel like it’s just the evil of the city whoever He turned his head – and just as his daughter Julie turned him off because he couldn’t pull himself together.

The big reveal is also something of a new mystery, although I think it brings us closer to an answer. When Tabitha was awake in the real world, she used the address in Victor’s lunchbox to find his home. Here she met Victor’s father and apparently passed out because she wakes up a little later on the couch. Victor’s father is understandably suspicious and nothing Tabitha says can allay his suspicions. Your story is too far away. But when she mentions the children locked in the tower, his behavior changes.

We learn that before his wife and children disappeared, she was having visions – nightmarish visions of children trapped in a tower – after they dropped acid one last time. “I think I was sent here to find you,” Tabitha tells him. “I think you were sent here because of what’s in the basement,” he replies ominously.

He takes her to the basement where he keeps dozens and dozens of paintings, all painted by Victor’s mother. They show us Fromville and its monstrous residents as well as the creepy children and the boy in white. It reminds me a little of Victor’s childhood drawings.

Here we see the Faraway trees, the stone slabs from Jade’s tunnel adventure, a fanged monster, a lighthouse, the forest. I’m sure fans will study these images in detail and will likely come across more clues and interesting tidbits.

I’m once again very impressed with this season. The F-bombs have all but disappeared, which is a pleasant change from the almost incessant rants of last season. Again, the swearing doesn’t bother me, it just feels like laziness in the writing when the characters say the F-word so frequently.

The characters also do a little better when it comes to communication, although I wish Boyd would talk to Jade about what he saw in the tunnels. And Kenny’s idea of burning the monsters in their sleep isn’t a bad one. I might prefer catching one to Boyd’s idea.

One thing is for sure: when the credits rolled, I was hungry for more. I’m glad they put out this weekly publication so we can all talk about it and make our predictions and make our fan theories and everything else, but sometimes I wish I could just mess up the whole thing at the moment.

Trump, 78, makes startling comment about his “beautiful” beach body at Wisconsin rally

Former President Trump, 78, told his supporters at a rally in Wisconsin that if he didn’t run for office he would be “sunbathing on the beach” with his “beautiful” body.

Trump often talks about his opponents’ looks at rallies, but this time he took the opportunity to praise his own appearance.

The strange comments came as he talked about what life he could lead if he didn’t run for president.

“I could have sunbathed on the beach,” Trump said.

Former President Trump, 78, told his supporters at a rally in Wisconsin that if he didn’t run for office he would be “sunbathing on the beach” with his “beautiful” body

“You’ve never seen such a beautiful body,” he continued.

Attendees laughed in response to his boast, and some people cheered and clapped.

Trump then went on to say his body was “way better than Sleepy Joe’s.”

This wasn’t the first time Trump compared his appearance to that of an opponent.

In August, he claimed at a rally in Pennsylvania that he was “better looking” than Kamala Harris.

He began by reflecting on Harris’ appearance on the cover of Time magazine, whom he had previously compared to his wife Melania.

Trump then went on to say his body was “way better than Sleepy Joe’s.”

Trump commented on the image’s resemblance to classic Hollywood icons Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor, then contradicted a Wall Street Journal columnist who commented on Harris’ beauty earlier this month.

“I look a lot better than her,” Trump said, sparking laughter from the crowd. “I look better than Kamala.”

One MAGA supporter saw humor in Trump’s comments, writing on social media: “Comedians around the world will study this man’s brain for years. They work for years to be funny and never come close.”

However, many others attacked the president for his and Harris’ fake looks, with one mentioning the previous comparison he made between Harris and Melania.

“Trump literally said the picture of Kamala in Time magazine was so beautiful that she reminded him of Melania. Now Trump says he’s better looking than his wife?’

Trump had previously discussed Harris’ appearance in the magazine, which was an illustration, with Musk during their conversation on X Spaces.

“She looked a lot like our great First Lady Melania,” Trump told Musk.

“She didn’t look like Kamala, but of course she’s a beautiful woman, so we’ll leave it at that,” he said.

Maya Rudolph returns as Kamala Harris in the premiere cold open of “SNL” Season 50 with Dana Carvey and Jim Gaffigan

Maya Rudolph returns as Kamala Harris in the premiere cold open of “SNL” Season 50 with Dana Carvey and Jim Gaffigan

Mamala is back!

Maya Rudolph returned to the “Saturday Night Live” stage to reprise her Emmy-winning role as Vice President Kamala Harris for the milestone premiere of the show’s 50th season.

“Well, your funny aunt has returned,” said Rudolph.

The comedian, 52, appeared on Saturday as the Democratic presidential candidate, 59, in a hilarious skit with Andrew Dismukes and Jim Gaffigan, who portrayed ABC anchor David Muir and Harris’ running mate Tim Walz, respectively.

“I have to be honest here, guys. When Kamala Harris called and asked to be her vice president, I said, ‘Um, yeah,'” Gaffigan – as Walz – said. “This is personal for me. I love this country. And as a former teacher, I need the money. This suit is from Costco!”

“SNL” alum Dana Carvey also made a triumphant return to 30 Rock to play President Joe Biden for the first time in nearly eight years.

“A lot of people forget that I’m president — myself included,” Carvey said, echoing Biden’s look at the camera. “But guess what… and by the way, I think I did a pretty good job. I have passed more bills than any president in history, but there is still much work to be done. And guess what…and by the way…”

Andy Samberg was hired to play Douglas Emhoff during the show’s cold open. NBC/SNL

Andy Samberg starred as Harris’ husband Douglas Emhoff.

James Austin Johnson reprized his role as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, while Bowen Yang starred in his portrayal of Ohio Senator JD Vance.

Rudolph was a cast member on “SNL” from 2000 to 2007. She first played Harris in a September 28, 2019 episode for the NBC sketch comedy that parodied the Democratic primary debate, alongside host Woody Harrelson as Joe Biden, Larry David as Bernie Sanders, Kate McKinnon as Elizabeth Warren and Bowen Yang as Andrew Yang.

The Bridesmaids actress’ portrayal of Harris became an instant hit, earning her a 2020 Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. The imitation even won Kamala’s heart.

“That girl played by @MayaRudolph on @nbcsnl? That girl was me,” the then-California senator posted after the debut on X, formerly Twitter.

She returned to “SNL” a few times to play the vice president – also known as “Funt”, America’s funny aunt – after the 2020 election, alongside Jim Carrey, who took over the role of Joe Biden in October 2020, including during her moderation work in March 2021, which earned her another Emmy as Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

This won’t be the last time we see Rudolph as Harris on “SNL” either.

According to Deadline, the star is set to play Harris in several episodes of Lorne Michael’s late-night comedy program in the run-up to November’s presidential election, altering her schedule.

In July, sources told the network that Rudolph had paused production on the third season of her Apple TV+ comedy series “Loot” was scheduled to shoot on August 26th due to scheduling reasons. The show is reportedly set to resume production in January 2025.

“SNL” fans begged for Rudolph’s return after President Biden dropped out of the race on July 21, but her comeback wasn’t guaranteed.

During an August appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” with RuPaul filling in for Kimmel, Rudolph revealed that no one had contacted her from the show.

“Will we see Kamala on ‘SNL’ soon?” RuPaul asked.

“It’s interesting that you brought that up,” Rudolph replied, “because no one asked me.”

She was eager to play Harris again, but was confused when headlines broke about her return.

“I have never experienced anything like this in any of my previous work. “It’s been an incredible, exciting time for me that feels so much bigger than myself or anything I’ve ever done,” she said on the late-night talk show.

“I’ve played her on the show before, but the moment it was announced that she was going on, I think I was at home watching ‘The Bear’ and it was announced that I was I agreed to be on ‘SNL.’ I was like, ‘What have I done?’ Everyone’s just ready for it!”

Rudolph acknowledged how special it would be to bring the imitation back to Rockefeller Center.

“I spent so many years on ‘SNL’ watching other people play presidential candidates and thinking that there was no one else in the race who looked like me. To think that we are here now and that I would ever be close is incredible,” she told RuPaul.

Rudolph ended her interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” by teasing her “SNL” comeback, telling the studio audience, “I mean, I don’t know. We’ll see!”

On Friday, September 27, Rudolph appeared as herself in a promo for SNL’s 50th season. She didn’t mention Harris, but brought up a Southern accent, a possible reference to the memes criticizing the presidential candidate’s accent at certain rallies, and teased: “Rumor has it there’s a very special guest coming to these parts this week. “, which led many to assume she would reprise the role.

Excited by the excitement of the long-standing rivalry between the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia, former President Trump participated in a wide-ranging interview about college football and the intersection of politics.

In an exclusive OutKick interview with Clay Travis, Trump highlighted the “energy” of Saturday night’s Alabama-Georgia game.

“This is really big football and it’s great to see,” Trump said.

The stadium crowd cheered as Trump was shown on the giant television screens and a video board watching the game with Sens. Katie Britt, Tommy Tuberville and Steve Daines of Montana.

When asked about his appeal to younger voters, Trump said his campaign was “way up.”

“We are way up there with young people. It’s an honor. They are very smart. And her.” [Kamala Harris] insulted them and said they weren’t smart, and I’ll be honest, they were a lot smarter than them,” he said.

“There has never been such energy as there is now. And I guess I am, but it’s also like that when you look at our country and what happened. Our country is in bad shape and is in a very dangerous place right now. But we love our country, and we will make it great again.

The changes to the NFL’s kickoff caught Trump’s attention, with the Republican candidate praising college football for sticking to the previous rules.

“Big college football is as big as the NFL,” he said. “I don’t know what they do with the kickoff return in the NFL. And of course I don’t want to get into controversy, but it looks so bad.”

“And it occurred to me that they didn’t do that in college and they shouldn’t,” he said. “And I think the NFL should go back. And maybe she’s a little more dangerous, but I doubt she’s more dangerous. It’s football.”

“I think they made a terrible mistake with this,” he said.

Trump turned his attention to Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Gov. Tim Walz, who was in attendance at the game between the two on Saturday Minnesota and Michigan in Ann Arbor.

“He was booed out of the stadium,” he said. “And you saw the hand we were dealt – it was a little different.”

“We have to wait and see what happens on November 5th. “I think it’s the most important day in the history of our country,” Trump said. “This will be the biggest election we’ve ever had because our country is in a bad place. I have always said that they are destroying our country, no, they destroyed it and we will bring it back.”

“I think he did really well. And I think he’ll do really well. He’s a winner, he’s a champion,” Trump said when asked about his performance. “And there are a lot of people who are jealous of him, so they will always say no matter how well he does, they will remain as negative as possible.”

“I think he’s doing fantastically well,” he said.

Lincoln Parks and Recreation is giving away hundreds of free trees

Lincoln Parks and Recreation is giving away hundreds of free trees

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Even in the middle of a Husker game, Lincoln residents couldn’t turn down an offer to plant more trees in the ground around the city at Pioneers Park on Saturday.

Thanks to the large turnout for this year’s tree raffle hosted by Lincoln Parks and Recreation, 250 trees were cut down to just under 30 in 45 minutes.

Participants were able to receive a free tree of their choice on a first-come, first-served basis. The aim of the raffle was to give trees to local homeowners so that they could then plant them on their property.

In the 15 minutes before the event, a line formed around the building.

“There is a canopy that has been lost due to elm dieback, emerald ash borer dieback, but also summer storms like July 31,” said Mike Comstock, Lincoln Parks and Recreation. “Just another way to help residents get trees and encourage them to plant them in their gardens.”

The raffle took place at Pioneers Park as part of the park’s Wild Fall Festival, which includes outdoor activities such as hikes on the property’s trails.

Although it was the competition’s fifth year, it was the first to be held in collaboration with Pioneers Park and the Wild Fall Festival. A partnership that those with Parks and Rec said will continue into the future.

Storm kills at least 64 people as devastating floods hit North Carolina

Biden approves disaster declaration for North Carolina

President Joe Biden agreed to a disaster declaration for North Carolina, where at least 10 people died and flooding caused widespread destruction across the state.

The approval makes federal funding available to people in 25 counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the White House press office said in a statement Saturday.

“Aid may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property damage, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster,” the statement said.

Once the ongoing damage assessments have been completed, additional districts and forms of assistance could be added.

Historic North Carolina village underwater after devastating damage from Helene

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A historic village in western North Carolina is under water after suffering the brunt of devastating flood damage from Hurricane Helene.

Branches, logs and a dumpster floated through Biltmore Village in Asheville, known for being built and owned by a single person.

Resident Tammy Borgesen was among dozens of people standing outside a downtown hotel, one of the few places with Wi-Fi access, hoping to connect with loved ones.

“We were trying to get an email or text message to let everyone know we were OK,” said Borgesen, who had water but no electricity at home.

The water level reached several meters and in some areas reached the top of street signs. Rapid water poured over the front steps, flooding buildings and small businesses, while Asheville seemed to be nearly leveled by Helene.

More than 200 people have been rescued from floodwaters in North Carolina, Gov. Roy Cooper’s office said in a statement Saturday. According to the Department of Transportation, more than 400 roads are closed in the state, hindering travel and rescue efforts.

The Galaxy Ring could soon have a new competitor. | Photo credit: Samsung

The smart ring category is hot right now, but is Apple ready to get in on the action on its own?

In the last few months we’ve seen the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Ring and the RingConn Smart Ring, while the Oura Ring (now in its third generation) is the long-standing frontrunner in the race for the best smart rings. Rumors that Apple might be tempted to join the party have been circulating for a few years now, and it appears that Apple is at least somewhat in the planning stages of this form factor.

Here we have compiled everything we know and think we know about the so-called Apple Ring: the leaks and rumors that have surfaced, the predicted price, the possible release date and more. We’ve also added some of the features and specs we’d like to see from the Apple Ring.

Apple Ring: in a nutshell

  • What is that? A supposed smart ring made by Apple

  • When might it appear? TBC, but not before 2025

  • How much could it cost? Expect to pay $399 / £399 / AU$750 or more

Apple Ring: price and release date predictions

Oura Ring 3 on a fingerOura Ring 3 on a finger

Oura Ring 3 on a finger

We don’t have much indication of how much the Apple Ring might cost, but we can take a look at some of the other options on the market. The Samsung Galaxy Ring is available for $399 / £399 and up (Australian pricing is yet to be confirmed), while the Oura Ring 3 is available for $299 / £299 and up (and is not currently available in Australia).

That gives you an idea of the price points we’re talking about. Apple wants to stay competitive, but (as its best iPhones show) it’s not afraid to put a price premium on its products. If we had to guess, we’d say the Apple Ring will be slightly more expensive than its competitors from Samsung and Oura.

Also keep in mind that the best Oura Ring features require a monthly subscription ($5.99 / £5.99 per month). Apple already has the Fitness Plus program that you can sign up for if you own an Apple Watch ($9.99 / £9.99 / AU$14.99 per month). Therefore, it is quite possible that this is also an optional extra for the smart ring.

When it comes to a release date, 2024 and even 2025 seem unlikely given the frequency of leaks and rumors we’ve seen so far; It doesn’t appear that a launch is imminent. We didn’t see an Apple Ring alongside the Apple Watch 10 at the It’s Glowtime event in September 2024, but there’s a chance it could join the Apple Watch 11 in September 2025 if the device shows up as expected.

Apple Ring: Leaks and Rumors

Someone holds the Ringconn Smart Ring against a concrete background.Someone holds the Ringconn Smart Ring against a concrete background.

Someone holds the Ringconn Smart Ring against a concrete background.

The Apple Ring rumors go back a long way, at least to 2020. A patent filed by Apple this year showed that a smart ring would be used to control other devices – with the idea that you could potentially control the channels on your Apple TV could switch by tapping your ring. Of course, patents aren’t always a guarantee of future products, but they show what companies are thinking about and researching.

In 2023, Apple again filed smart ring patents that positioned its potential device as a type of controller for other devices. It seems that each Apple Ring that appears will not only focus on health and fitness, but will also give you new ways to control features on your other Apple devices.

It seems that Apple isn’t limiting itself to finger-mounted wearables either. Another patent from 2023 revealed plans for a type of apple anklet that could be worn around the ankle or around the neck. The success of the Apple Watch is obviously causing Apple to think about how you can track more fitness metrics.

Meanwhile, an industry report out of South Korea suggested in early 2024 that an Apple smart ring was on the way to take on the likes of Samsung and Oura. However, since nothing has emerged in the past few months, either the report’s sources were mistaken or Apple has changed its mind about the future product launch schedule.

We saw another sign that an Apple Ring could be on the way: an Apple survey sent to Apple Watch owners asking how many of them currently wear a smart ring alongside their smartwatch. It may be a bit of a stretch to use this as evidence of an Apple Ring, but it’s not nothing.

And that’s it for the Apple Ring rumors – no hint of pricing, specs, design or anything like that. The lack of details in the rumors suggests that a release could still be some way off, although there was enough excitement at this point to suggest that it is at least being considered.

Apple Ring: What we want to see

Apple Watch Series 10Apple Watch Series 10

Apple Watch Series 10

If an Apple Ring is indeed on the way, what will it look like – and how might it beat existing models? If Apple engineers are reading this, here’s what we want from an Apple Smart Ring.

1. Excellent battery life

Of course, this shows up on every wish list for every device, but decent battery life is a must – especially since the standard Apple Watch won’t last more than a day or two without a charge. In fact, that could be a major selling point for the Apple Ring: continue to track your steps and other activities while your Apple Watch is charging.

2. Premium sleep tracking

Speaking of charging the Apple Watch, many users charge their watch overnight. This means that the smartwatch often cannot be used for sleep tracking, and we hope the Apple Ring can do this very well. In addition, due to its smaller size and lighter weight, a smart ring is better suited for tracking movements while you sleep.

3. Lots of software features without a subscription

We’ve already mentioned Apple Fitness Plus, but we hope that many of the features of an Apple Ring are available without a subscription – like with the Apple Watch. And for those who want additional features like fitness videos, workout plan customizations, in-session metrics, and more, there could be an additional subscription option.

4. A superior design

There are really only so many ways to design a smart ring, but we hope Apple gives the Apple Ring the same aesthetic flavor as shown on the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. We’re thinking about a super slim and super light form factor, a choice of different colors and a smart ring that is one of the most comfortable on the market.

5. Seamless integration of the Apple ecosystem

Apple usually does this perfectly, with iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watches constantly getting new integrations and connections – so we’re hoping this extends to Apple Ring too. It’s unlikely that Apple wants the Smart Ring to replace the Apple Watch, and in fact it could be a useful screen for it (remember, Oura also has an Apple Watch app).

Bills vs. Ravens praise all-time touchdown scorer for “Sunday Night Football”

Sunday of the fourth week of the NFL comes to an end with “Sunday Night Football” between the Buffalo Bills (3-0) and Baltimore Ravens (1-2) at M&T Bank Stadium, kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.

Beyond distribution and totally Bet I’ll take a look Bills vs. Ravens props for touchdown scorer at any time on “Sunday Night Football.”

Here are my two Sunday Night Football picks for the Bills-Ravens.

Gilles Gallant’s Bills vs. Ravens touchdown scorer props

Khalil Shakir

All-time touchdown scorer (+240, Bet365)

Khalil Shakir has become Josh Allen’s primary safety valve on underlying routes out of the slot.

This season he has scored touchdowns in two of three games played, and if last year’s playoff run is included, he has scored four touchdowns in his last five games.

He leads the Bills in target share against zone coverage and to top it off, both of his touchdowns were against man coverage – making him an even more lethal option.

The Bills will likely need to have a lot of passes in this matchup, so I love Shakir at +240 to add another score.

The studio wanted Joker 2 immediately. Todd Phillips explains why it took 5 years

Nobody could have predicted the success of 2019 Joker. Not only did the film reach the $1 billion mark worldwide and earn a Nomination for Best Picturebut it also triggered one important discussion about mental health, This makes it one of the defining films of the last decade. Of course, Warner Bros. – the studio behind the film – immediately wanted a sequel. Why did it ultimately take so long for the sequel to appear? Joker: Folie À Deuxbe released? Well, writer/director Todd Phillips just explained it all to CinemaBlend.

I recently met with Todd Phillips to talk about this Folie À Deux. During our conversation, I brought up the studio’s push for more Arthur Fleck, and he said this:

They did it like any studio would say, “Hey, we should do another one.” I understand where that’s coming from, but if you remember the time frame, COVID came pretty quickly.
