Kentucky at Ole Miss – UK Athletics

Kentucky at Ole Miss – UK Athletics

preview

After beating Ohio 41-6 last week, Kentucky goes on the road for the first time this season and visits fifth-ranked Ole Miss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss.

Kentucky scored two touchdown runs from Demie Sumo-Karngbaye in the win over Ohio. Wide receiver Dane Key caught seven passes for 145 yards, which was a career high. With the win, the Cats evened their season record at 2-2.

Ole Miss has won all four games and leads the nation in both offensive rating (55 ppg) and defense (5.0 ppg). Lane Kiffin’s Rebels also lead the nation in total offense, averaging 670.8 yards per game.

Cat Scratch: Cat defense must be focused and executed to slow rebels

Kentucky defensive coordinator Brad White knows he and his unit have a tough challenge ahead of them this weekend. The Cats face fifth-ranked Ole Miss, and the Rebels’ offense has been strong through four games, to say the least.

Ole Miss averages 55 points and 670 yards per game. They lead the nation in both categories. White knows the Cats will need to maintain their solid play from recent games as they face Ole Miss.

“It’s just another challenge, it’s another week. We’ll have a lot of them throughout the year,” White said. “The goal is focus, execution, throughout the exercise, in the meeting rooms, taking it out, unwavering commitment and pushing forward series after series. We did that against Georgia, and I think we executed that well against Ohio last week. We must continue to do that. I think the boys understand the challenge. If it’s 670 yards per game, 55 points, 420 through the air, 250 on the ground. They’ve got weapons everywhere, they’ve got a great offensive line, a quarterback that’s playing at a really, really elite level. We know we have to do our best.”

This will also be Kentucky’s first road game of the year and will feature an early kickoff. These are both things the Cats need to consider as they prepare… Read more

Crypto scammer swindles a Bay Area woman out of more than $1 million

Crypto scammer swindles a Bay Area woman out of more than million

Crypto crime continues to explode, often targeting Americans through a worldwide network of criminals who don’t care whose lives they destroy. One victim, a working woman, was willing to talk about the financial devastation.

US savings and retirement accounts are prime targets because America is where the money is.

“It’s a personal drive for me that I don’t want this to happen to others,” said Mary, in her 60s and a professional who ensures her employer complies with all applicable laws, regulations and policies.

Over her life, she amassed a $1.2 million retirement fund, some of it to finance her son’s college education.

The money is gone now.

“It’s absolutely humiliating, devastating, I cried for weeks,” she said.

Mary was initially contacted through LinkedIn, Microsoft’s business and employment-focused social media platform with over one billion members worldwide.

Last March, Kenneth Ouyang, who claims in his professional LinkedIn post that he is a Google artificial intelligence and machine learning engineer, contacted Mary and told her he wanted to talk about AI in the context of her industry.

Ouyang said he wanted to discuss AI in the context of their industry.

“He’s very tech savvy,” she said.

Over several months, they built trust by discussing shared interests such as cooking and outdoor activities. They spoke on FaceTime and WhatsApp. Ouyang even sent a copy of his Seattle driver’s license.

Finally, he brought up his side business, cryptocurrency.

“I had concerns, but I thought, ‘Well, there is crypto in the industry. There are many apps. People do this. They channel money,’” Mary said.

He convinced Mary to give it a try by investing $1,000 in a platform called Xexbit.com. Almost immediately, she received $1,340 in cash back in her bank account.

Further transfers eventually depleted the pension fund, with Ouyang claiming he had co-invested with her. She says he even tried to convince her to take part in what appeared to be a multi-stage crypto Ponzi scheme to attract more investors, but refused.

Still, Mary said she was told she had amassed a $9 million profit. But to get it back, she would have to deposit another 10% into her account; Money she didn’t have.

“That didn’t happen. And they also gave a deadline that it would be due by September 7th,” she said.

Ouyang removed his LinkedIn post and disappeared with all her money. She is in contact with local police, the FBI and the IRS.

With her nest egg gone, she is now thinking about the rest of her life.

“I hesitated and went for it anyway,” Mary said.

Users who fall for carefully crafted crypto scams often harbor ill will toward LinkedIn because they believe they are dealing with reputable organizations and professionals.

Aware of this, LinkedIn told CNBC that increasing fraud resulted in the removal of 32 million fake, fake and fraudulent accounts last year.

Nonetheless, the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Cyber Crimes Unit says social media needs to do a much better job of ridding its sites of scammers.

“Last year, $50 billion was stolen from ordinary Americans by transnational organized crime… the problem is sophisticated fraudsters who know who to target, how to target it, and how to target it in order to stealing everything,” said Santa Clara County Assistant District Attorney James Gibbons-Shapiro.

KTVU reached out to LinkedIn but did not receive a response for comment.

Is Costco’s new chicken packaging making people sick?

Is Costco’s new chicken packaging making people sick?

“The old containers were much better.”

Brooke Sjoberg

Posted September 28, 2024, 11:00 am CDT

Food safety is an important part of any retail store that offers ready-to-eat and hot foods.

But what happens when the storage method could have unintended consequences for customers?

A Costco shopper says he got sick multiple times after eating the wholesaler’s fried chicken.

In a video posted to TikTok that garnered over 583,000 views, nutritionist @thejacked.gentleman says he got sick twice after eating Costco’s packaged fried chicken.

He believes the chicken sitting in the plastic bag allows the bird to develop bacteria that will be transferred to it when consumed.

@thejacked.gentleman Costco “Chicken-in-a-Bag” made me sick twice the next day! I believe that if you let it cool on the counter before putting it in the fridge, bacteria will develop. The first day is fine, but after that I wouldn’t eat it again. #costco #costcobuys #costcochicken #foodpoisioning ♬ Original sound – TheJackedGentleman

“After I switched to chicken in a bag, I got sick twice,” he says in the video. “I don’t think it’s a problem on the first day. When you get it home, let it cool on the counter before putting it in the fridge. I think bacteria are developing.”

He continues: “In the old containers, the chicken used to stay above the juice and not just in the hot plastic juices laden with chemicals and bacteria. I don’t understand it anymore.”

The Daily Dot reached out to @thejacked.gentleman via TikTok direct message and Costco via a contact form about the video.

Has Costco changed its chicken packaging?

Yes. Earlier this year, Costco switched from using plastic clamshell packaging to thinner plastic bags for its fried chicken in an effort to reduce plastic usage and waste. Initially, customers complained that the bag was leaking and were concerned about not storing the bird in their refrigerators.

About the concerns

The poster’s summary that braising the chicken in its own juices might not be too far off. After customers reported leaks, Consumer Reports investigated whether the bags were safe. According to Consumer Reports, experts say that the leaking chicken liquid could itself become a breeding ground for bacteria if it gets onto a surface like a kitchen countertop.

There are also concerns that chemicals from the plastic bag packaging could leach into the chicken itself. Any type of heating over a long period of time can cause some plastic additives to leach into the packaged food and cause the plastic to decompose.

Viewers agree

Some who saw the video were quick to point out that there is plenty of opportunity for bacteria to grow in warm-prepared foods if stored improperly.

“Cooling on the counter allows bacteria to thrive,” one commenter wrote. “Straight into the fridge or an ice bath to cool down quickly.”

“In Australia… we’ve been eating chicken in a bag since I was a kid and I’m middle-aged,” another added. “It should also cool quickly…right in the fridge. They let it grow bacteria.”

“You don’t refrigerate on the counter, you take it out of the bag and put it in the fridge straight away,” said another.

Others shared that they also felt unwell after eating Costco rotisserie.

“No it’s the chicken, I felt sick the first time I tried it,” one commenter wrote. “Never had it again.”

“Wait, I got sick after eating the last Costco chicken I got so I haven’t bought any since,” one user reiterated. “I didn’t think it might just be the case.”

“To be honest, the last two times I also wondered if I had become ill. I thought it was just a coincidence and after watching this I’m even more convinced,” one commenter wrote.

14 Black Movies on Netflix You’re Missing

14 Black Movies on Netflix You’re Missing

In the vast, algorithmically driven wilderness of Netflix, finding the perfect movie can feel like finding a stylish needle in a haystack of mediocrity. But fear not, cinephiles and casual streamers alike – we’ve done the hard work for you. Strap in as we dive into a curated list of Netflix’s most electrifying Black films, each a testament to the power of representation and the undeniable power of Black talent in Tinseltown.

Classic Favorites: The OGs of Black Cinema

Let’s start with a heavyweight contender that needs no introduction: “American Gangster.” Denzel Washington, in all his Oscar-winning glory, delivers a masterclass in intensity as Frank Lucas, the real-life Harlem drug lord who built an empire by cutting out the middleman. It’s a dark, uncompromising look at the American dream gone awry, with Washington’s magnetic performance anchoring a story that’s as much about power and corruption as it is about race in America.

Exciting dramas: thrills of the highest order

For anyone who enjoys high blood pressure entertainment, The Last Thing He Told Me is a conspiracy thriller that questions everything. Mahershala Ali, fresh off his Green Book Oscar, teams up with Julia Roberts in a story that’s part domestic drama, part political intrigue. It’s a slow burn that builds into a full-blown inferno of tension – but don’t google spoilers before diving in, or you’ll find yourself pedaling harder than a Tarantino character.

Action-packed adventures: justice is served hot

If subtlety isn’t your thing and you prefer your social commentary with a side of roundhouse kicks, “Rebel Ridge” is your ticket. With the swagger of a young Denzel, Aaron Pierre takes on the role of a vigilante and takes on a corrupt sheriff in a story that’s as much about systemic injustice as it is about ass-kicking. It’s the kind of movie that makes you want to stand up and cheer – just be careful not to knock over your popcorn in the process.

Inspiring biographies: historians and trailblazers

With Kamala Harris shattering glass ceilings left and right, there’s no better time to dive into “Shirley.” Regina King – because who else? – embodies Shirley Chisholm, the groundbreaking politician who dared to run for president when America was not yet ready to see a black woman in the Oval Office. It’s a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go, wrapped up in a performance that’ll have you Googling “how to start a political campaign” as soon as the credits roll.

Lighthearted comedies: audience favorites that will make you laugh out loud

Sometimes you just need to turn off your brain and let the endorphins flow. Appears in The Upside with Kevin Hart in a role that proves he’s more than just the loud guy in any other comedy. This remake of the French hit The Intouchables reunites Hart and Bryan Cranston as an unlikely duo who navigate life, love and disability with humor and heart. It’s the kind of feel-good film that will leave you with a grin bigger than Hart’s bank account.

Scary thriller: bumps in the night

As the nights grow longer and Halloween approaches, The Deliverance offers a chilling exploration of the demonic possession that keeps you sleeping with the lights on. It’s a frightening reminder that sometimes the scariest monsters aren’t the ones under your bed, but the ones that lurk within your own psyche.

Unique sci-fi comedies: Laugh while questioning reality

For those who like their laughs with an existential crisis, “They Cloned Tyrone” is the mind-bending fun you didn’t know you needed. Jamie Foxx, Teyonah Parris and John Boyega lead a cast that uncovers a government conspiracy so wild it makes “The Matrix” look like a documentary. It’s a genre-bending journey that will have you questioning reality – and possibly your Netflix subscription options too.

Emotional Thrillers: Heart-pounding and heartbreaking

Prepare to have your emotions tested with “His House,” a horror thriller that transforms the refugee experience into a powerful metaphor for trauma and displacement. It’s the kind of film that proves that horror can be more than just jump scares and gore – it can be a powerful tool for exploring the human condition.

Western Excellence: New Frontiers in an Old Genre

Get ready for The Harder They Fall, a stylish, star-studded Western that rewrites the rules of the genre. Director Jeymes Samuel assembles a black Hollywood dream team, including Idris Elba and Regina King, for a revenge tale that is as much about style as it is about substance. It’s a reminder that there’s still gold in the hills of the Western genre – it just takes the right gold diggers to find it.

Comedy classic: nostalgia with a pinch of fear

Look, we’re not saying “White Chicks” is high art. What we’re saying is that sometimes you need a movie that’s so ridiculous and over the top that you just have to laugh. The Wayans brothers’ cross-dressing comedy may not win any awards for subtlety, but it’s guaranteed to provide belly laughs – even if some of them are accompanied by a healthy dose of “I can’t believe they got away with that in 2004.” ”

Documentaries worth watching: Real stories, real impact

For a dose of reality that’s stranger than fiction, “The Black Godfather” pulls back the curtain on Clarence Avant, the music industry Oz who pulls the strings behind some of the biggest careers in black entertainment. It’s a fascinating look at power, influence and the invisible forces that shape popular culture.

Powerful Performances: Acting Masterclasses

Viola Davis. “Ma Rainey’s black ass.” Need we say more? Well, we will. Davis transforms into the legendary blues singer in a performance so raw and real that you forget you’re watching a movie. It’s a masterclass in acting that proves why Davis is one of the most celebrated performers of her generation.

Romantic Comedies: Love in Living Colors

“Breaking In” flips the script to the typical romantic comedy formula: Gabrielle Union plays a divorced mother who finds love with a younger man while balancing career and family. It’s a refreshing take on black love that proves that romance isn’t just for the young and conventionally beautiful, but for anyone brave enough to open their hearts.

Fascinating documentaries: cultural shapers and game changers

Rounding out our list is Tiny Shoulders: Rethinking Barbie, a documentary that examines the creation of the first black Barbie. It’s a fascinating look at representation in pop culture and a reminder that even the smallest steps toward inclusion can have a huge impact.

From laugh-out-loud comedies to thought-provoking dramas, this collection of films showcases the incredible range and talent of Black filmmakers and actors. Each one is a testament to the power of storytelling and the importance of diverse voices in cinema. So next time you find yourself lost in the Netflix scroll, remember: these hidden gems are waiting to be discovered. Press play and let the magic of black cinema transport you to familiar and fantastic worlds. Your next favorite movie is just a click away.

Pittsburgh Steelers DST – Fantasy Football Outlook

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been strong defensively this season, giving up the fewest yards and points per contest in the NFL. They are primed for more success at home against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4.

Although the Indianapolis offense has put up a respectable number of points over the last three weeks, Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson currently leads the league in interceptions thrown. If running back Jonathan Taylor struggles against a Steelers defense that allows the second-fewest rushing yards per game,

Richardson could be forced to throw the ball as he deals with intense pressure from DPOY favorite TJ Watt. Fantasy managers should include Pittsburgh’s DST in lineups of all shapes and sizes on Sunday.

-Jorden Hill, RotoBaller

New York Jets DST – Fantasy Football Outlook

The New York Jets defense pulled off a great draw at home against the Denver Broncos in Week 4. The Broncos have struggled offensively this season, ranking 23rd in points per game and 26th in yards per game through three weeks.

The Jets have one of the most talented defenses in the league and are in a great situation at home against rookie quarterback Bo Nix. With New York considered a 7.5-point home favorite in a game with a low over/under ratio of 39.5, fantasy gamers should be confident heading into Week 4 with the Jets defense.

– Matt T., RotoBaller

Cleveland Browns DST – Fantasy Football Outlook

The Cleveland Browns defense will hit the road to face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4. Cleveland’s defense was solid through three games, recording nine sacks, good for tenth in the league.

The Raiders will call on Gardner Minshew II at center after benching him for Aiden O’Connell last week, but Minshew is on a leash after throwing just three touchdowns and three interceptions in the first three games of the season Thrown and didn’t score a vote of confidence from head coach Antonio Pierce during the week.

However, the Browns’ defense enters Week 4 pretty banged up, as Myles Garrett (foot, hamstring, hamstring), Jordan Hicks (ribs, elbow) and Mike Ford (knee) all missed a few practices this week due to their respective injuries. The Browns are 1.5-point away favorites in a game with a low over/under of 36.5 points, so fantasy managers can feel confident starting the unit as a top-10 option this weekend.

Notre Dame vs Louisville channel today, time, TV schedule, streaming information

Notre Dame vs Louisville channel today, time, TV schedule, streaming information

Last Saturday, Notre Dame football exorcised some of its previous demons by defeating a Mid-American Conference school at home.

Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish can continue that trend in their next game.

This weekend, No. 14 Notre Dame hosts No. 17 Louisville at Notre Dame Stadium in a matchup of top-20 teams.

Required reading:“Chip on our shoulder.” The goal of Notre Dame football is to force Louisville to rarely lose the ball

It will be just the fifth meeting ever between the two programs, all of which have been played since 2014. Last season’s game was probably the most notable meeting in the series’ short history, with the then-No. 11 Irish falling 33-20 on the road to the No. 25 Cardinals in a game that quarterback Sam Hartman single-handedly won was responsible for five turnovers (three interceptions and two fumbles). The loss was Notre Dame’s second loss of the season, eliminating it from College Football Playoff contention.

“Real Time” host Bill Maher suggested that the federal indictment against New York City Mayor Eric Adams for the alleged crimes is “a little harsh.”

“I’m so amazed – not that politicians can be bribed, but that they can be bribed so cheaply,” Maher reacted on Friday evening.

The Democratic mayor is blamed Obtaining illegal campaign contributions This emerges from a 57-page indictment that was unsealed on Thursday. As part of the conspiracy, he is alleged to have defrauded taxpayers of $10 million over the past decade, often taking free or heavily discounted vacations financed by his foreign patrons.

His guest, author and commentator Fran Lebowitz, mocked Adams for allegedly asking for business class airline tickets.

“Eric, you’re stealing! First class! Why business class?” Lebowitz joked.

“But considering the crime is so petty, don’t you think they’re being a little too harsh on him?” Maher asked.

“No, he’s the mayor of New York. “No,” Lebowitz replied.

“Yes I know. I’m not making excuses,” Maher said. “I have seen politicians do something worse. For example, they tried to overthrow the government of the United States.”

“I don’t know if there is that level of outrage from everyone who is so shocked and horrified and this is the worst thing that has ever happened. “It’s a little exaggerated,” Maher added.

Adams released a video statement in which he said all charges against him were “completely false and based on lies,” and he suggested that his criticism of the Biden administration’s disastrous border policies made him a target of retaliation.

“The federal government has taken no action as its broken immigration policies have overwhelmed our protection system without any remedy,” he said in a video statement. “I put the people of New York above party and politics.”

Investigators disputed claims that the case was a political retaliation during a news conference Thursday.

After an abrupt change in leadership, the Marlins continue their series against Jays

After an abrupt change in leadership, the Marlins continue their series against Jays

The visiting Miami Marlins will be without manager Skip Schumaker on Saturday afternoon as they continue their three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Schumaker will miss the final two games of the season due to health reasons, but late Friday several media outlets reported that Schumaker will not return to the club next season.

Schumaker was set to become a free agent after the season. According to ESPN, he told the team’s players after the game that it would be his last competition with the team.

The Marlins’ final game of the season under Schumaker was a stunning 15-5 victory over the Blue Jays, 74-86, in the opening game of a three-game series that will end the season for both teams.

Xavier Edwards had four hits, including a major league record three triples, and four RBIs for the Marlins (60-100).

“I was able to demonstrate my full speed,” Edwards said. “It was nice to open my legs a little.”

The Marlins arrived in Toronto around 5 a.m. Friday after earning an 8-6 victory in 13 innings over the host Minnesota Twins on Thursday. The Blue Jays had Thursday off, but the Marlins played with more energy.

“Very proud of our team,” Edwards said. “We came out to take care of business.”

He is the first player in Marlins team history with three triples in a game and the first in the majors since Yasiel Puig on July 25, 2014.

Jonah Bride hit two home runs and three RBIs for Miami, his first multi-homer game of his career.

It was a good Friday night for the former Blue Jays. Second baseman Otto Lopez, who was born in the Dominican Republic and spent part of his childhood in Montreal, went 2-for-3 with a walk. He played nine major league games for Toronto and was designated for assignment in February. Griffin Conine played in the minors with Toronto until moving to Miami four years ago. He was 2 for 5 with a solo home run and three RBIs on Friday.

Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had two hits and a sacrifice fly Friday night and needs one more hit to become the sixth player in franchise history to score 200 or more hits in a season. He is batting .326, second in the American League to Bobby Witt Jr.’s .332 for the Kansas City Royals.

Alejandro Kirk played 2 of 5 for Toronto, extending his winning streak to 18 games. He is batting .316 (24 for 76) with 13 RBIs during the streak.

Toronto starter Jose Berrios fumbled for the second straight game on Friday, picking up his 17th win of the season and 100th career win No. 100

.

Berrios allowed six runs and six hits in three innings on Friday.

“That was out of character for him,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. “But when you look back on his year, you see he was great. He was consistent.”

Right-hander Yariel Rodriguez (1-7, 4.41 ERA) is scheduled to start for Toronto on Saturday, his first career appearance against Miami.

The Marlins are expected to open with right-hander Xzavion Curry (1-2, 5.02), who has never played against Toronto.
