Here’s what you need to know about your spare tire

Here’s what you need to know about your spare tire

A flat tire is always annoying, but a spare tire can help you get back on the road quickly. However, even if you have a spare tire, it may not be operational or safe when needed. Consumer Reports reveals what you need to know before a tire emergency occurs.

According to Consumer Reports, safety is the number one priority when a flat tire occurs. You should pull off the road as far as possible in a safe area.

Next, you’ll want to have a space-saving spare tire, affectionately known as a “doughnut.” It has long since replaced the full-size spare wheel in most passenger cars. If you’re lucky, it might be years before you need one, but it shouldn’t be forgotten.

Your spare tire expires just like your other four tires. You heard right. Replacement tires expire. The last two digits of the DOT number on the sidewall of the donut tire indicate the year the tire was manufactured. If it is more than ten years old, replace it.

Of course, a replacement tire only works if it is properly inflated. Check the pressure and condition of your spare tire every time you check the pressure of your other tires and refill as necessary.

Only 40% of new cars have a spare wheel. Manufacturers remove it to reduce production costs and reduce weight to reduce fuel consumption. So don’t assume you have one.

Instead, you’ll likely be given an air compressor or a can of tire sealant that you can use to repair a damaged tire and take it to a repair shop where it can be repaired or replaced.

Some cars, mostly luxury models, are equipped with run-flat tires that allow you to drive a certain distance, usually 50 miles, at moderate speeds – enough to get you home or to a service center for a replacement. You should not drive around with these tires or a patched tire as it is not a permanent solution.

Another important tip from CR is that no matter the solution to your car’s flat tire, you should learn to use it before you need it. You may need to use it in rain, darkness or other difficult circumstances.

Karl-Anthony Towns trade to Knicks stuns NBA fans as T-Wolves sign Julius Randle | News, results, highlights, statistics and rumors

Karl-Anthony Towns trade to Knicks stuns NBA fans as T-Wolves sign Julius Randle | News, results, highlights, statistics and rumors

Jim McIsaac/Getty Images

The New York Knicks are acquiring Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns via the Detroit Pistons for Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and a first-round draft pick, according to Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, more will be needed to complete the trade.

Fred Katz @Fred Katz

The Knicks and Timberwolves need a third team to facilitate a trade between Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and Karl-Anthony Towns. Both teams are above the first frontcourt, meaning neither can accept more money than they are spending in a deal.

Needless to say, this was stunning NBA news on Friday night, and Towns himself had a reaction to it.

And others were shocked or confused for various reasons.

Bobby Manning @Real Bob Manning

The #Knicks We were always going to have to trade Randle for a center. I thought it was someone like Stewart though… what madness. #Wolves had a tremendous 2nd frontcourt, fiscal concerns about Towns’ contract. He was probably gone at some point. But soon? Wow. https://t.co/8PmurHi1UH

NBA fans won’t have to wait long to see new teams’ players in action, as the regular season begins in less than a month. Additionally, the first regular season game between Minnesota and New York will take place on December 19th in Minneapolis.

Another tropical threat is possible through the Gulf next week

Another tropical threat is possible through the Gulf next week

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The Atlantic hurricane season may have produced fewer storms than expected so far, considering preseason forecasts warned of one of the most active seasons on record, but the storms that have developed have been extremely devastating.

The Atlantic basin is currently as busy as it has been all season.(WAFB)

Of the nine named storms that formed by September 27th, four have reached the US Gulf Coast as hurricanes, including Category 4 Hurricane Helene. Helene is also one of the nine major hurricanes that have struck the Gulf Coast since 2017 land, with seven of the nine hurricanes making landfall at Category 4 or 5 intensity.

The Atlantic basin is currently as busy as it has been all season.

Apart from that, the Atlantic basin is currently as busy as it has been all season. While the latest Helene advisory was being written, we were tracking Hurricane Isaac, Tropical Storm Joyce and two other events in the Atlantic.

Hurricane Isaac

Isaac became the sixth hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season on Friday. The good news is that intensity is likely near its peak Friday evening and is expected to gradually weaken over the open Atlantic over the course of the weekend.

Tropical Storm Joyce

Tropical Storm Joyce is also over the open Atlantic and is also likely nearing its peak. Further strengthening is possible into Saturday, and it is not ruled out that it will briefly become a hurricane. However, conditions are expected to become more adverse in the coming days and Joyce is likely to weaken over the open Atlantic.

East Atlantic wave

The National Hurricane Center is tracking a tropical wave east of Joyce that is forecast to have a 40% chance of development Friday evening. Regardless of development or not, this system is expected to persist over the open Atlantic.

A new threat from the Gulf

NHC is also monitoring a tropical wave moving through the Caribbean. While conditions for development are expected to remain generally unfavorable over the next few days, this could change next week. Various models suggest another storm could hit the Gulf by mid- to late next week, but confidence that it will happen is currently low. Remain calm over the weekend, but be aware that there is a chance of another storm in the Gulf next week. It is far too early to speculate about the possible intensity or course.

Rutgers beat Washington 4-0 for the first time since 2012

Rutgers beat Washington 4-0 for the first time since 2012

Rutgers fought back but failed to pull out a narrow 21-18 win Friday against Washington — last year’s national championship runner-up — to move to 4-0 for the first time since 2012.

Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis and running back Kyle Monangai led the offense.

And when they needed it, several stupid penalties from the Huskies helped the Scarlet Knights.

The nationally televised game against Rutgers was the first Big Ten match of the year after facing Howard, Akron and Virginia Tech earlier in the season.

Kaliakmanis completed 14 of 24 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown.

Monangai posted his third consecutive 100-yard rushing game on a night in which he passed Isiah Pacheco and moved into seventh place on Rutgers’ all-time rushing list.

Monangai ran for 132 yards, including a confident rush in which he blocked several tackles and gained 42 yards in the third quarter.

The Huskies managed to make the game interesting with a drive in the final minute, trailing by just three.

Washington was able to get the ball into Rutgers territory with a series of passes before kicker Grady Gross missed a 55-yard field goal attempt wide left as time expired.

It was his third missed field goal of the game.

The Rutgers sideline spilled onto the field and the lights flickered in celebration as the final whistle blew.

The Blackout Game at SHI Stadium drew 54,079 fans, the second highest attendance in its history.

“You could feel it in this stadium tonight. That’s what Big Ten football is all about and that’s what I want for New Jersey,” said Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano. “This is what I have always wanted for New Jersey, to exist in our state. … Tonight was a good step, but that’s all. It’s a victory. It’s exciting; It is good.”

Monangai’s 1-yard rushing touchdown run with 11:16 left in the second quarter erased a 3-0 Scarlet Knights deficit.

Later in the second game, the Scarlet Knights took advantage of one of the Huskies’ biggest mistakes of the night.

Washington blocked a 38-yard field goal attempt by Rutgers, but it was nullified when Vince Holmes was called for an illegal substitution to breathe new life into Rutgers.

On the ensuing play, Kaliakmanis connected with receiver Ian Strong for a jump-ball touchdown, extending the Scarlet Knights’ lead to 14-3 with 30 seconds left before halftime.

Late in the third quarter, Washington finally found the end zone in a six-play drive that culminated in Huskies quarterback Will Rodgers finding Denzel Boston for a 51-yard touchdown pass.

While the touchdown late in the third quarter pulled the Huskies to within five, Rutgers responded with a touchdown of its own 4:03 into the final quarter as Samuel Brown V powered his way to a 37-yard scoring run to take the lead 21-21 expanded. 10.

The Huskies managed to cut the lead with a drive late in the game in the fourth quarter, cutting Rutgers’ lead to three on a drive that started at the Washington 24-yard line.

It culminated in the Huskies staying alive with a short rush on fourth-and-1 before Rodgers connected with Boston in the end zone.

The Huskies completed the two-point conversion, cutting the lead to 21-18 with 1:40 left.

Washington opened the scoring with a 22-yard field goal, marking the first time since November 25 that Rutgers allowed an opponent to score in the first quarter.

On Friday, the Huskies and Scarlet Knights faced off for the first time since 2017 and was Washington’s first road game against a Big Ten opponent as a member of the conference.

“Hats off to you, Greg [Schiano’s] have done. He immediately put the thing back together. I think the fans and the students are evolving and growing with him,” said Huskies coach Jedd Fisch.

Samsung wants to be the TV for gamers – that’s why the company develops games specifically for TVs

At its official unveiling a few weeks ago, this was PS5 Pro faced backlash for its exorbitant $700 price tag. A major issue for many is the lack of a drive in the updated next-generation system – which is now billed as a separately available accessory along with an optional vertical stand.

It’s clear that the gaming landscape is changing. With its long track record of innovating in the television and phone businesses, Samsung sees an industry ripe for acquisition – an industry that is on the cusp of major change as physical video game discs decline as quickly as DVDs did in the early days Days of streaming.

Convicted murderer in connection with another murder after prosecutor Gascón charged him as a minor in LA County

Convicted murderer in connection with another murder after prosecutor Gascón charged him as a minor in LA County

“Honestly, it was devastating,” says Cynthia Carrera.

LOS ANGELES – Almost five years ago, Cynthia’s brother Alfredo Carrera and his friend José Flores Velázquez were murdered in South Los Angeles simply because they were on the territory of a rival gang.

None of the men belonged to a gang. Alfredo was about to become a father, and Jose, a student at UCI, had just accepted a job at NASA.

“This was a cold-blooded murder. And it wasn’t just one person; two innocent people lost their lives for no reason,” Carrera said.

Seventeen-year-old Shanice Dyer, a member of the East Coast Crips, was charged with first-degree murder by then-District Attorney Jackie Lacey and was scheduled to be tried as an adult. However, that changed when George Gascón took office in 2020.

“The public needs to know what’s going on,” said Michele Hanisee, president of the Association of Deputy District Attorneys in LA County. She explains: “One of the many blanket policies that Gascón implemented on his first day in office was that no crime committed by a juvenile – no matter the circumstances – would ever be referred to adult court.”

As a result, Shanice Dyer was tried as a juvenile. Although she was convicted of two murders, she served less than four years in prison. “It’s still very difficult. And now we find out that this person committed another crime and did this to another family,” Carrera said.

The same woman who killed Alfredo and Jose is now accused of murder again, allegedly as an accessory to the murder of 21-year-old Joshua Streeter. Retired Los Angeles District Attorney Kathy Cady, now a victim advocate, says: “George Gascón refuses to accept responsibility for the fact that his policies led to this murder. He hides behind explanations that make no sense.” Carrera adds: “Gascón’s reform aimed to rehabilitate people and give them a second chance, but since the incident no one has cared about the victims. Nobody ever asked, ‘What can we do for you?'”

George Gascón declined our request for an interview, but his office released the following statement:

“Our hearts break for the victim and his family. This is an unimaginable tragedy. However, it is very unlikely that Ms Dyer would have been placed under any administration. According to the law, there are five factors that a juvenile court would have considered” and weighed in deciding whether Ms. Dyer could remain in the juvenile justice system. Of these five factors, only one factor, the circumstances and seriousness of the offence, supported transfer to adult court. Given this, it is highly unlikely that Ms Dyer would have been transferred to the juvenile justice system even if the court had held a transfer hearing.

  1. She was under the influence of adult men and acted at their direction, suggesting that she did not display a high level of criminal sophistication;
  2. your lack of a serious criminal history at this time;
  3. The amount of time and opportunities that remained at that point to rehabilitate her in the juvenile justice system; And
  4. The lack of any previous opportunities to rehabilitate them in the juvenile justice system.

In March 2022, LADA’s Juvenile Alternative Charging Evaluation Committee (JACE) was founded. Since then, 23 adult court transfer requests have been approved by JACE.

Of the approved cases, five JACE cases were heard in juvenile court.
Four JACE transfer requests were rejected by the court.
1 JACE transfer request was granted by the court.
1 JACE transfer application is currently still in progress.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test, Day 2: Both teams return to hotel

India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test, Day 2: Both teams return to hotel

India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test, Day 2: More cloud cover awaits.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test, Day 2: Fingers crossed. Rain played a big role on the first day of the second match between India and Bangladesh as showers and poor light in Kanpur resulted in only 35 overs being played. The stage is set for a very interesting test if the weather doesn’t spoil the game as predicted in Kanpur this weekend. Bangladesh enter the second day with a record of 107-3, with Mominul Haque hitting 40* after seeing off fiery bowling from India. His partner is Mushfiqur Rahim, who looks solid, and Bangladesh’s experienced lower middle order will follow him.…Read more

Meanwhile, India will be hoping the rain and overcast conditions will allow their bowlers to get something out of the pitch, with the impact of the game not being felt as deeply on the surface so far. India clearly expected the pitch to add some spice and Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first after winning the toss – the first time an Indian captain had made that decision on home soil since 2015.

Overall, both teams will be hoping the weather cooperates after losing 55 overs due to rain on the opening day of the game. Bangladesh played the new ball without too much damage and will want their veterans like Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das to benefit from friendly conditions before the black ground plays a role for India’s spin duo.

The Tigers themselves have opted to go into this game with an extra spinner in Taijul Islam, but India will fancy their chances of opening the game with just two pacers in their opposition. While Ravichandran Ashwin got some spin and uneven bounce, it wasn’t too threatening for the batters and Ravindra Jadeja was left unused.

The weather forecast is for rain both overnight and on Saturday afternoon and with the pitch not looking too difficult to bat on, both teams will be hoping a result is still possible. India will look for quick wickets to make up for lost time, while Bangladesh will likely follow instructions to remain patient and vigilant.

Yesterday on the first day – at every possible pitch – Sharma had deployed Najmul Hossain Shanto’s men to bat, marking a countermove to the captaincy trend on Indian pitches. Since it had rained the day before and the game had to start an hour late, perhaps the idea was to take advantage of the overcast conditions. There was early movement for Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, but Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan were alert to start.

However, Zakir failed to get going and was dismissed for a 24-ball duck after the introduction of Akash Deep, who continued his form of picking up crucial first innings wickets after being introduced as the first change bowler. Zakir was dismissed by another great low catch from Yashasvi Jaiswal at the gully before Shadman Islam was caught LBW after a good recommendation from the Indian team.

Shanto came on at number four and steadied the ship with Mominul Haque, setting up a 51-run partnership before one that didn’t turn caught him by surprise and sent the Bangladesh captain packing. This was Ashwin’s 420th wicket in Asian conditions, placing him second among bowlers with the most wickets in Asia ahead of Anil Kumble. Mominul began to bounce back after a mixed start and played some good shots before the end of the game, while Mushfiqur Rahim got himself into the game at the other end. Bad light forced the umpires to call off the play-offs and with rain also beginning to fall over Kanpur, Bangladesh had to post a solid score of 107-3.

Below are some notes about the 2nd Test India vs Bangladesh:

– Bangladesh resumes 107-3

– An early start is expected and play can continue until 5:30 p.m., light conditions permitting.

– Unfortunately more rain is expected on the second day.

– Virat Kohli needs 129 more to complete 9000 Test runs.

– High hopes rest on Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque.

NASA and Roscosmos argue over increasing leaks in the space station. “Not reached yet…”

NASA and Roscosmos argue over increasing leaks in the space station. “Not reached yet…”

NASA engineers have discovered that part of the International Space Station is leaking. According to the space agency’s inspector general, there are leaks in a tunnel that connects the Russian part of the station to a docking port. The problem is that no one knows what is causing the leaks.

“Persistent cracks and air leaks in the service module transfer tunnel pose a major safety risk,” the report said.

In June, the crack in NASA’s “risk matrix” was moved to the highest level of concern, Ars Technica reported.

NASA and the Russian space agency Roscosmos are working together to solve the problem.

“And NASA and Roscosmos are working together to investigate and repair the cracks and leaks, determine the root cause, and monitor the station for new leaks.”

“Although the root cause of the leak remains unknown, both agencies have narrowed their focus to internal and external welds,” the report said.

According to a report from Ars Technica, in April, NASA “detected an increase in leakage to its highest level ever.” The gain increased to a whopping 3.7 pounds of atmosphere per day, compared to less than a pound in February.

NASA currently plans to decommission the space station in 2030. Until then, however, it is important to keep everything perfect. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case as the report points out problems in troubleshooting the issue whenever it is detected.

The report cites “supply chain issues” faced by NASA contractors that could make it difficult to maintain the space station’s operations until it is finally decommissioned.

If engineers cannot identify and fix the problem, NASA and Roscosmos may have to permanently close the hatch to the affected tunnel. This would cut off access to one of the station’s four docking ports.

However, this could be a point of conflict between NASA and Roscosmos as they do not “agree on the point beyond which the leak rate is unsustainable.”

Specifically, SpaceX will help NASA deorbit the station and crash it into the Pacific Ocean in 2030.
