Seattle Seahawks prepare to face tough Detroit Lions

Seattle Seahawks prepare to face tough Detroit Lions

RENTON, Wash. – In his first season at the helm of the Seattle Seahawks, coach Mike Macdonald was not on the sideline for any of the team’s recent victories over the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in the last two seasons.

But that doesn’t mean Macdonald isn’t familiar with the rigorous game planning for Detroit’s high-powered offense and physical ground game. Last season, when he orchestrated Baltimore’s No. 1 scoring defense, his team delivered a tour de force performance with a 38-6 win at M&T Bank Stadium, overwhelming Jared Goff and company by holding them to five third downs on 16 attempts -Conversions limited.

But Macdonald didn’t put much stock in that game as the Seahawks ramp up their preparations for another trip to the Motor City on Monday Night Football. While his former team got off to a fast start last October, shutting out the Lions early to prevent them from attacking, he has a lot of respect for the NFC North juggernaut that coach Dan Campbell has built and knows the will of his current one The group will have their hands full slowing them down in prime time in a hostile street environment.

“They are a really good football team. Hard-playing, well-coached, great variety, but they’re also special teams, so to speak,” Macdonald said of the Campbell’s Lions on Wednesday. “A hard-playing team. This also runs through all three phases. Obviously in certain situations they are very aggressive and willing to take calculated risks, so we have to be prepared for that.”

The Lions haven’t had quite as much bite on the scoring charts through the first three weeks of the season and currently sit 16th in points per game, due in part to unusual turnover issues. But coordinator Ben Johnson’s unit still ranks fourth in total yards per game, bolstered by a top-five rushing attack with top runner David Montgomery and dual-threat back Jahmyr Gibbs , who have already combined for 438 yards and four touchdowns.

Despite struggling more than usual with interceptions in the first few weeks, Goff has remained efficient in a high-octane passing attack, completing 66 percent of his passes with three touchdowns behind a strong offensive line that ranks seventh in Pro Football Focus. Pass blocking grade (72.8) and sixth in ESPN’s pass block win rate (67 percent).

On the defensive side of the ball, Detroit has shown significant improvement, with retooled secondary and star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson terrorizing opponents with a 6.5 sack performance in three games. The Lions have not allowed more than 20 points in any of their games so far and are in the top 10 in both points per game and total yards allowed per game, which the defensive-minded Macdonald’s noticed in the film review.

“Defensive, [they’re] very aggressive. “Seems like they made a little more changes compared to last year,” Macdonald noted. “There’s a difficult simplicity with additions to how they operate defensively and obviously Aidan (Hutchinson) is a really good player that we’re going to need to take into account.”

I’m looking for a 4-0 start for the first time since 2020. Here’s a closer look at the Seahawks’ upcoming Week 4 prime-time opponent, including series history, entries and departures, an in-depth look at the scheme and Macdonald’s assessment of the reigning NFC North champion Lions:

18th regular season meeting. The Seahawks have dominated the all-time series, posting a 12-5 record while winning six straight matchups since 2015 and nine of 10 matchups since 2003. During that span, Seattle also won a playoff game against Detroit in the Wild Card Round in 2016. Most recently, the Seahawks have defeated the Lions in each of the last three seasons, scoring at least 37 points in each game.

Supplements: To solidify the divide on both sides of the football, the Lions signed former Ravens Pro Bowl guard Kevin Zeitler, former Bengals defensive tackle DJ Reader and former Saints first round pass rusher Marcus Davenport early in free agency. The team also brought in former Buccaneers starting cornerback Carlton Davis to pair with first-round draft pick Terrion Arnold and brought in slot cornerback Amik Robertson in free agency and as part of a retooled cornerback group.

Departures: After the most successful season in franchise history, Detroit didn’t go through free agency without losing high-profile players to other teams. Starting right guard Jonah Jackson accepted a multi-year deal from the Rams to join another possible NFC contender, necessitating the move of Zeitler, while trusted No. 3 receiver Josh Reynolds accepted a bigger offer from Denver. On defense, talented veteran safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson returned to Philadelphia, where he previously played in 2022, on a three-year deal, while reserve pass rusher Julian Okwara also signed with the Eagles.

Like the Seahawks, the Lions enter Monday’s main event with an extensive injury list and will begin the week by placing Davenport and linebacker Derrick Barnes on injured reserve on Monday. Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow, who suffered a partial pectoral muscle tear in Week 3, is out and will be replaced by Graham Glasgow, while rookie cornerback Ennis Rakestraw was limited during the week of practice.

Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has put together a strong Lions offense based on multi-tight end formations, bucking the league trend of most teams using 11 players more than 65 percent of the time. So far this season, Detroit has used 12 personnel groupings with two tight ends on the field at a rate of 34.6 percent, the highest rate in the NFL, with more than six percent of those snaps featuring a tight end as an H-back in the NFL have rear field. The majority of the remaining games were played by 11 players at 58.3 percent, which ranks 25th among NFL teams.

After moving closer to a 50/50 split between zone and gap systems in 2023, Johnson has chosen zone concepts on 52 of 85 run plays so far in 2024, more than 60 percent of the time. With the ground game being extremely effective, the Lions were able to further maximize their utilization of the play-action passing game, as Goff ranked third in play-action dropbacks (36), first in play-action yardage (306), and Ranks seventh in play-action yardage yards per attempt (9.7). Interestingly, he ranks 16th in passer rating on these occasions (89.2) and only the Giants’ Daniel Jones has a worse grade on such throws, according to Pro Football Focus.

Now in his fourth season as Detroit’s defensive coordinator, Aaron Glenn has taken on the role of aggressor, sending five or more rushers on blitzes at a rate of 31 percent, the sixth-highest percentage in the NFL through three weeks. That extra paid off in the quarterback hunt, as the Lions ranked seventh in pressure rate (28.4 percent), eighth in quarterback knockdown rate (11.8 percent), and eighth in overall pressure rate (33). take sixth place. However, according to Field Vision, the Lions rarely used sim pressures and only increased them by 5.1 percent.

In terms of coverage, according to Field Vision charts, sticking with past trends, the Lions have chosen Cover 1 with a player under a man 34.6 percent of the time, with only the Broncos, Browns and Jaguars doing so more often this year have the single high look. Detroit also played a fair amount of quarters – or Cover 4 – coverage in 2024, ranking sixth in the NFL with that coverage on 22.7 percent of defensive snaps. Glenn, who leads the league in using Cover 1 and Cover 4 nearly 60 percent of the time, has used Cover 3, Cover 2 and Cover 0 looks sparingly compared to the NFL average.

–On Detroit’s multiple offense anchored by the front line: “I think the gap scheme coupled with the wide zone play-action passes, running the game back on time, [Jared] Goff plays fast, makes quick decisions and gets the ball from his hands to his playmakers. Both runners are really dangerous in their own way. The offensive line is probably one of the best in the league, if not the best, so we have a lot of work to do.”

–On Johnson’s running-game-based offense: “I don’t think they’re so stubborn that they only do one thing to beat their head against the wall, both run and pass. They’re very efficient, but I would say it starts with a running game with this team setup. The drop back play is consistent for the quarterback, it’s clean. They build it up in different ways that do a good job of hiding the look while keeping it consistent. So I would say it would start with the running game.

“Cowboys vs Giants” sets multiple Prime Video and NFL viewership records

The Dallas Cowboys’ nail-biting 20-15 win over the New York Giants set several new viewership milestones for Thursday Night Football (TNF) on Prime Video, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The game averaged an impressive 16.22 million viewers.

This remarkable number marks an all-time high for TNF broadcasts on Amazon, and the company added that the game is also the most streamed NFL regular season game in history.

The game showcased the Cowboys’ resilience on the field and showcased a strong run defense after two disappointing performances against the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens.

It also highlighted the increasing demand for live sports streaming services.

That number isn’t particularly surprising considering the game featured two of the most popular NFL franchises and was only available via streaming and not on live television.

NASA inspector warns of growing cracks allowing air to escape from space station

NASA inspector warns of growing cracks allowing air to escape from space station

Crack crisis

The space agency is increasingly concerned about leaks in a tunnel connecting the Russian segment of the International Space Station to a docking port, according to a new report from NASA’s inspector general.

Worse, officials still aren’t entirely sure what’s causing it.

“Persistent cracks and air leaks in the service module transfer tunnel pose a major safety risk,” the report said. “And NASA and Roscosmos are working together to investigate and repair the cracks and leaks, determine the root cause, and monitor the station for new leaks.”

In April, NASA “detected an increase in leakage to its highest level ever,” releasing 3.7 pounds of atmosphere daily, a massive increase compared to just under 1 pound in February Ars Technica Reports.

“Although the root cause of the leak remains unknown, both agencies have narrowed their focus to internal and external welds,” the report said.

Fixing the problem could be a difficult one because of the “supply chain issues” that NASA’s contractors are struggling with, a problem that could make maintaining ISS operations even more difficult before the agency officially decommissions them in 2030 goes into operation.

Close the hatch

In June, NASA upgraded the cracking problem to the highest level of concern in its “risk matrix.” Ars Technica reported at the time.

If the leaks persist, NASA and Roscosmos could be forced to permanently close the hatch to the affected tunnel, which would prevent astronauts from using any of the station’s four docking ports.

“According to NASA, Roscosmos is confident that they will be able to monitor and close the service module hatch before the leak rate reaches an unsustainable level,” the inspector general report said. “However, NASA and Roscosmos have not reached agreement on the point at which the leak rate becomes unsustainable.”

This is an unpleasant realization given the space station’s already limited shelf life. In 2030, NASA plans to get help from SpaceX to deorbit the station and allow it to crash into the Pacific Ocean. As Ars points out that NASA and Russia have not yet agreed to continue operations after 2028.

Another option would be to make changes to the station to extend its lifespan beyond 2030, which the inspector general said would “require significant funding” and “require acceptance of increased risk due to its components and aging structures.”

The late Lex Cyrus TD lifts Susquehanna Township past Middletown in the Colonial Division

HARRISBURG— University of South Carolina commit Lex Cyrus slipped and fell to the wet turf for a 2-yard loss after catching a screen pass from quarterback Torin Evans in the fourth quarter of the Mid-Penn Conference Colonial Division game Friday night , where it stood at 14 points.

“I think he’s got Fred Flintstone’s feet on him. He tried to run too fast and slipped,” Susquehanna Township head coach Joe Headen said. “So I knew that if we got the ball back and had a chance to play it again, we would.”

In fact, Susquehanna Township got the ball back in the final minutes of regulation and Evans took it to Cyrus in the lowfield on a first-down play near midfield as time expired.

This time, Cyrus stormed down the sideline and into the end zone for a 52-yard game-winning touchdown with 44 ticks remaining in the game and Hanna defeated Middletown 21-14 on a windy, foggy Roscoe Warner Field on Homecoming Night.

Susquehanna Township improved to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the Colonial Division. They will travel to East Pennsboro next week.

Middletown is now 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the division. The Blue Raiders travel to Line Mountain next week.

THE STARS

Cyrus caught 7 passes for 100 yards, scoring the game-winning score. Evans completed 14 of 25 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown. At running back, he hit the rock 14 times for 100 yards. Jarret Kern played a crucial role in the fourth quarter, catching four passes for 51 yards.

Middletown running back Luis Roman ran 18 times for 81 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Genesisia Ross threw an option pass to Nickayus Zenon for 79 yards and a score to lead the passing attack.

GAME DECISIVE MOMENTS

Middletown took a 14-7 lead by capping a 17-play, 80-yard drive with 8:53 remaining with a 22-yard TD by Roman with 50 seconds left in the third quarter.

Hanna responded, marching 30 yards in six plays, sparked by a 21-yard catch and run by Cyrus. Jayden Riley ran the final two yards to make the score 14-1 with 10:25 left.

Unable to get a critical first down that likely would have expired time and sent the game into overtime, Middletown hit the ball to Hanna at its own 34 with 2:14 left in regulation Playtime.

Evans hit Kerns for a third down and eight for a new set of downs at the Hanna 48 and found Cyrus for the game-winner on the ensuing play.

YOU SAID IT

“We streaked the whole game. We tried and faced a lot of adversity. Finally, at the biggest moment when we needed it, we did it. I feel like we let it go to our heads. It wasn’t a problem in the second half. It took a minute, but we did it,” – Lex Cyrus, Susquehanna Township senior.

“Definitely a tough win but sometimes you have to win ugly and we had to prove to ourselves that we could do it. Today we proved that we can come back, score and win the football game.” – Torin Evans of Susquehanna Township.

“I watched (Middletown) play last Friday and saw a lot of determination from them. I told these guys all week that it wasn’t going to be easy. Tonight showed us a lot about this team. They could have let things slip, but they stuck with it. There were leaders out there and no one ever backed down.”– Susquehanna Township head coach Joe Headen.

After Barbie, Mattel is making a Matchbox Cars movie with John Cena

John Cena in a car-themed movie sounds like a good fit to us

After Barbie, Mattel is making a Matchbox Cars movie with John Cena

  • John Cena will star in the upcoming Matchbox Cars film, rekindling childhood nostalgia for many.
  • The Matchbox film follows Barbie’s blockbuster success, which grossed almost $1.5 billion worldwide in 2023.
  • Production on the Matchbox Cars film is in the works, but a release date has not yet been announced.

If you were like me as a child, you might have played with Matchbox cars, pushing these tiny model creations across the carpet and imagining what it would be like to drive them in real life. There will soon be a film about her, starring John Cena.

The film Matchbox Cars follows the phenomenal success of another film from Mattel’s extensive toy range: Barbie. This film became the biggest box office hit of 2023, grossing almost $1.5 billion worldwide. The film received nine Golden Globe nominations and eight Academy Award nominations, winning two and one, respectively.

The Matchbox line of die-cast toys was invented by automotive enthusiast Jack Odell in 1953 and thanks to Apple Original Films a film about it is being brought to life. It will join several other Mattel toy films in the works, including one about Hot Wheels and even Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.

Read: John Cena’s Daily Driver is a Honda Civic Type R

The Matchbox film will be produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger and Robbie Brenner, while Sam Hargrave, the man behind it, will direct extraction And Extraction IIwith Chris Hemsworth.

However, no details regarding the film’s plot have been released Cena looks like a great addition to the film. The professional wrestler and actor has been a car enthusiast his entire life and still owns the 1989 Jeep Wrangler that he purchased with his first-ever WWE salary. He also owned a stripped-down Ultima Evolution, a Superlite Ford GT replica, a Radical race car, a 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a black Lamborghini Countach and several American muscle cars. He drives a 2024 Honda Civic Type R every day.

While there is no official word on the Matchbox movie’s release date, the announcement is fresh and filming hasn’t even started yet. So it looks like we’ll have to wait a while before we see Cena zooming around in miniature form.

The University of Wisconsin fires the porn industry’s former chancellor, who wanted to stay on as a professor

The University of Wisconsin fires the porn industry’s former chancellor, who wanted to stay on as a professor

The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents voted unanimously Friday to fire a communications professor who wanted to keep his job after he was fired as chancellor of one of the system’s campuses for producing pornographic films. Joe Gow, who had served as UW-La Crosse’s chancellor for nearly 17 years, argued last week that he should be retained in a teaching position on campus. But the university’s lawyers argued that he behaved unethically, violated the terms of his employment contract, damaged the university’s reputation and compromised its mission. The regents met in closed session Friday morning before publicly voting to fire Gow. There was no public discussion before the board vote. Gow said he is considering filing a lawsuit to keep his teaching job. He did not immediately respond to a message Friday morning. Gow has been on paid leave from his faculty position since the regents fired him as chancellor in 2023, shortly after university leaders became aware of the videos posted on pornographic websites. The case has drawn national attention both for the salaciousness of a high-ranking university official making pornographic films and speaking publicly about them and for the questions it raises about free speech rights. Gow argued that his videos and two e-books he and his wife Carmen have published about their experiences in adult films are protected by the First Amendment. The university’s attorney argued that Gow’s videos themselves were legal, but that they were not protected by his employment contract. Zach Greenberg, an attorney at the free speech advocacy group Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, called the regents’ decision “a major blow to…” academic freedom and the right to free speech.” “FIRE has said time and time again: Public universities cannot sacrifice the First Amendment to protect their reputation,” Greenberg said. “We are disappointed that the UW has caved to donors and politicians by alienating a tenured professor.” Republican lawmakers already view the Wisconsin university system as a liberal incubator. Last year they forced the company to scale back its diversity initiatives. System President Jay Rothman has tried to avoid further angering conservatives as he seeks approval for an $855 million increase in the next state budget. Gow’s hope of teaching in the classroom again was rejected by his department head, Linda Dickmeyer. She said because Gow hasn’t taught in 20 years, he will be assigned general education courses, but she refuses to allow him to return to teaching in any role. Gow was criticized in 2018 for inviting porn actress Nina Hartley to give a talk on campus. She received $5,000 from tuition fees for her performance. Pittsburgh doctor explains “chroming,” a dangerous social media trend involving children

Pittsburgh doctor explains “chroming,” a dangerous social media trend involving children

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – There’s a social media fad called “chroming” that a doctor in Pittsburgh wants parents to know about.

The new “snort” called “chroming” is a dangerous, re-emerging practice that is on the rise among the youth. “Chroming” uses items you probably have at home and is harmful to children.

“This describes children sniffing every available hydrocarbon they can get their hands on,” said Dr. Anthony Pizon, chief of medical toxicology at UPMC and professor of emergency medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.

We’re talking everything from permanent markers, paint thinners and metallic paints to aerosol deodorants, compressed air dusters and hairspray.

“Children get intoxicated. And the symptoms are typically similar to what you would see with, say, alcohol poisoning. The children are drunk, have an unsteady gait and are sedated,” Pizon said.

He said this practice of inhaling fumes from common household items has been around for decades, but new research suggests trending social media videos may be the reason for its comeback.

“Unfortunately, a lot of kids are exposed to it, especially because of its appeal on TikTok,” Pizon said.

He said short- and long-term “chroming” could pose serious risks.

“Sometimes people take this to the extreme and put the compound in a bag and put the bag over their head and they can obviously suffocate. Some of the compounds they inhale can cause cardiac arrest, which would be very serious. And “Then there are many other side effects that you can see from it: kidney damage, electrolyte imbalances, seizures, lung injuries, muscle weakness,” Pizon said.

“It’s not a particularly common thing that causes or leads to hospitalization. But we definitely see children and adults using these substances regularly,” he added.

Pizon said the term “chrome plating” comes from people getting metallic paint on their hands and face after, for example, inhaling metallic paints on a rag.

He said “chroming” and inhaling “whippits,” also known as nitrous oxide, go hand in hand because the products are legal and easy to obtain.

While videos of these two dangerous trends are circulating on social media platforms like TikTok, searching for “chroming,” “whippits,” or “whiptok” on TikTok will direct you to substance use resources and helplines.

Pizon said his advice to parents is to be curious.

“You just have to be as interested in what your kids are doing and aware of what they might have access to in their room. Be aware that these leached compounds may be under their bed. And if parents have these products at home, there is a long list of products to dispose of when they are no longer needed,” he said.
