The United States appeared to have laid the foundation as it looks to continue a quarter-century of dominance this week at the 2024 Presidents Cup in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. While the Americans have won nine consecutive trophies at the event, the international team has not won a Presidents Cup since 1998.

The chances of that streak ending Sunday diminished significantly after the first five games played, as the Americans built a seemingly insurmountable 5-0 lead with four balls to spare. At that point, it was only the seventh victory in a Presidents Cup round in the history of the event. The eighth game followed roughly 24 hours later, when the Internationals responded with a blistering foursome to level the game at 5-5 and give themselves a real chance to cause a significant upset.

In the USA, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are the two best players in the world at the end of the 2024 season. While Schauffele was strong in the Presidents Cup, Scheffler struggled mightily in the team competition before picking up a win on Thursday. The Americans also fielded newcomers Wyndham Clark, Sahith Theegala, Brian Harman and Russell Henley, along with Max Homa, who has struggled this season but is undefeated in the Presidents Cup. Homa gets his first crack on Friday.

Adam Scott leads the international team in its 11th Presidents Cup. Only Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim have had success in the competition with more than one Presidents Cup appearance, while Mackenzie Hughes and Min Woo Lee were making their first appearances.

Regardless of the outcome at Royal Montreal, this Presidents Cup will continue to be a lot of fun. International team competitions typically have loud crowds, and there’s no reason to expect anything different in Canada this year – especially considering how loud the fans were at the TBC Canadian Open earlier this year.

Sisilia Tuipulotu has been one of the stars of Welsh rugby in recent seasons, so it’s no wonder head coach Ioan Cunningham admits her absence is “not ideal”.

“Mr. Based on more than 100 hours of interviews with the biggest names in sports entertainment conducted over a period of more than four years, McMahon bucks a trend by succeeding where so many professional wrestling documentaries fail: It tells almost the whole story. Paul Heyman, himself an industry legend and active WWE performer, perhaps described it best in the opening of “Family Business,” the show’s fifth episode: “The Shakespearean tragedy of this story is the great success that Vincent had.” Kennedy McMahon was driven by his overcompensatory behavior as he rebelled during the first miserable 12 years of his life. “To escape this abuse was his goal in life, to create an atmosphere in which he was untouchable and invulnerable to outside forces and in control of his own destiny.”

Trying to reveal the full story of McMahon, who had never before sat down for so long to discuss his life and career, was undoubtedly an arduous task – one extremely difficult to accomplish in six hours. Those who have been following McMahon and WWE for a long time will find that the film highlights the revelations.

In fact, the filmmakers behind “Mr. McMahon” did not attempt to create a revelation by conducting their own new investigation. Given the nature of wrestling, the parties involved, and the way McMahon has isolated himself over parts of five decades, there is even a rare separation between fact and fiction.

Rather, the goal was to create a comprehensive portrait of the most important figure and villainous character in the history of the wrestling business. This succeeds.

There will certainly be other critics, including WWE general manager Bruce Pritchard, who expressed his displeasure with the portrayal of his former boss in the documentary’s final episode. Pritchard points out that some of McMahon’s more admirable qualities, such as his generosity, are not adequately showcased in the series. There are certainly far fewer amusing anecdotes than in previous documentaries about his former boss.

Although the series is unashamed to delve into McMahon’s most notable, public and lewd transgressions, many of his countless transgressions – particularly alleged shady dealings and numerous crimes while building the WWE into the behemoth it is today – remain on the ground cutting room. In this way, the omissions are somewhat balanced while portraying a man who is portrayed as a pioneering entrepreneur, a far-reaching father, a complicated entertainer, and an immoral bigwig who used his power and authority to maintain his empire.

“I wish I could tell you the real stories. Holy shit,” McMahon admits in “Junior,” the first episode. “…I’ll give you enough to make it halfway interesting. I don’t want anyone to really know me.”

McMahon often, but not always, has the last word when faced with the worst stains on his resume. However, compared to the viewpoints of others and the deftly presented facts of the documentary filmmakers, his statements often ring hollow.

Unsurprisingly, McMahon on Monday released a scathing review of the documentary, which he willingly participated in. He obviously assumed he was “Mr. McMahon” would become a puppet master because he has so many companies, projects and people in his life.

While the vast majority of interviews in 2021-22 were conducted before the revelation of several scandals that have since forced McMahon out of WWE, they are cleverly interwoven with more recent conversations to paint an accurate picture of his ruthlessness, gluttony and inconsistency.

McMahon’s family (wife Linda, daughter Stephanie, son Shane, son-in-law Paul Levesque) and superstar performers (The Undertaker, Steve Austin, The Rock, John Cena) each have their say, along with reporters who held his feet to the fire. TV executives who got his product on the air and creative forces who helped steer the WWE ship through turbulent waters.

Wrestling fans are conditioned to receive fragmented coverage of their chosen entertainment brand in addition to the main actors who star in front of the camera and behind the scenes. So expectations of a series in which McMahon allowed himself and his family to be interviewed in such detail – while simultaneously opening the doors to his company and its superstars – were met with understandable skepticism.

Those hoping for McMahon’s elimination will be disappointed. Those who inherently expect “Mr. McMahon” ignores the avalanche of misconduct surrounding his life and career could be satisfied.

McMahon embraces his narcissism, his megalomania and his immorality like badges of honor, tenets of his immense success. As Heyman notes, the only honest, monogamous relationship McMahon really lasted was with his company.

He gets all the credit for his shrewd, shrewd and shrewd business acumen that transformed WWE from a regional wrestling promotion into a global entertainment giant, but along the way the most unsavory and controversial of his misdeeds are laid bare for the viewer to judge.

It covers lawsuits from John Stossel and Richard Belzer, allegations of sexual assault by former referee Rita Chatterton, allegations of sexual harassment by former employees, the steroid scandal that brought McMahon to court in 1994, the hotel room death of Jimmy Snuka’s girlfriend, and the in-arena death of Owen Hart and Chris Benoit’s murder-suicide. McMahon is currently under federal investigation on allegations that he paid $14.6 million to four women to cover up sexual misconduct dating back to 2006. Janel Grant filed suit for sexual abuse and sex trafficking led to his now permanent Resignation from WWE and TKO Group.

McMahon refused to sit in for a final discussion on these latter topics, and he frequently claims that he cannot recall details of lawsuits, such as the one filed by Rena Lesnar (Sable), which was ultimately settled. However, extensive interviews conducted with the outsized personality provide plenty of material for armchair psychologists. In the sixth episode, “The Finish”, McMahon states that his brain is made up of multiple computers working simultaneously, including one that gave him lewd thoughts during the course of his interview.

While playing the character “Mr. McMahon” distances himself from the man he sees in the mirror – when asked about the similarities between the two, he replies, “None at all”, suggesting that the perception is far from reality – he is repeatedly rejected, sometimes alone. Even moments after making this claim, he seems content to accept the perception as reality.

Contradictions arise throughout the series, as McMahon’s view of his life and business can easily be counteracted by opposing viewpoints and television footage. In the fifth episode, “Attitude,” he explains the countless ways his product didn’t push the boundaries of good taste during the hottest period in advertising, the Attitude Era. A supercut that dismisses each of these claims proves the opposite.

In fact, it was this desire for control—over his family, his business, his history—that drove McMahon, who grew up with it, to the highest heights and to the lowest depths. Even in the final episode of the series, McMahon admits that he never really thought about a succession plan, as it would have led to a reality in which he could lose whatever power he was able to retain until his final breath.

Those unfamiliar with the intimate details of McMahon’s personal and business life receive a thorough education. Die-hard wrestling fans will be familiar with almost all of the stories and controversies, although there is still enough information and revelations to make “Mr. McMahon” to make it an experience that is more than worth seeing.

“Mr. McMahon” premieres on Netflix on Wednesday, September 25th.

Most people have never heard of the Boone County Local Emergency Planning Committee, but that’s who calls the shots when a large-scale disaster occurs.

Members of the committee include police and fire chiefs, health care providers, Boone County Health Department officials and all other first responders and community representatives.

The group met at the Lebanon fire station this week for a tabletop exercise where they worked through the logistics of a simulated chlorine leak in Lebanon.

The state requires an annual tabletop exercise, but the local team opted for the mock threat type, committee Chairman Mike Martin said. Martin is also the director of emergency management for Boone County. He and Deputy Director Russell Dulin led the exercise.

Martin drew on real experiences in Boone County to determine the threat. Three train cars carrying anhydrous ammonia derailed in Lebanon without causing a leak. And in Lebanon there were two chlorine leaks, one at Lebanon High School and one at the Witham YMCA, Martin said.

Therefore, it made sense to expand on the knowledge gained during these experiences.

Thursday’s scenario involved agricultural equipment using an auger in the area of ​​County Road 250 South and John Shaw Road to knock the top off a stopped rail car containing chlorine gas.

Sheriff’s deputies would initially observe the cloud from a distance using binoculars, Sheriff Tony Harris said. They would attempt to determine the substance spilled using a sign placed in the train cars to identify the chemicals contained within.

Firefighters would confirm the information and call the Boone County Dispatch Center to request the establishment of a joint command post. Harris would send his department’s command bus, where leaders of multiple agencies can work together to orchestrate a joint response to a complex emergency.

Martin and the EMA on site would approach the situation from a bird’s eye view and work with government agencies if necessary. Local law enforcement, firefighters and medical providers would assist residents and travelers and report to the command center. A chlorine disaster would likely overwhelm all of its departments and agencies outside the county would be called in to help, the group agreed.

The mock accident site is not a densely populated area, but The Waters of Lebanon rehabilitation and nursing facility is in the path of the greenish-yellow chlorine cloud.

Two of The Waters’ administrators attended the exercise and said it was best to house residents on-site. But because winds can shift and chlorine is particularly corrosive to people with respiratory problems, the group also planned a way to evacuate the facility using buses from Boone County Senior Services or Lebanon Community Schools.

The scenario occurred on an April afternoon when schools were on vacation. The group planned to reroute buses and close Interstate 65 so people couldn’t drive through the cloud. But a highway closure would trigger a traffic nightmare in Lebanon.

The plume from such a leak in this area may also impact the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds and any events held there. And it could flood the Boone County Jail. The sheriff’s administration can work from the command bus and move it around at will, Harris said. Martin also has a command trailer available.

Security

“We can repair the valve under safe conditions,” Martin said of the rail car.

But we don’t have the personal protective equipment to do this in a chlorine cloud, said LFD Battalion Chief Jason Lee.

As a result, the county would call a hazmat team from Hamilton County, and it could take up to two hours for that team to prepare and approach the rail car.

Meanwhile, first responders would help those caught gardening or watching TV in their homes evacuate or find safe shelter.

Martin said his agency could distribute evacuation orders through local media, as well as police and health department radio stations, social media and other means.

“Self-evacuation will be key,” said Lebanon Fire Chief Chuck Batts. “We need a plan for where they can go and off-site decontamination for them.”

Chlorine causes burns and is corrosive to eyes, lungs and skin. It can corrode metals in seconds. But water will wash it away from people. “It really is that simple,” Batts said.

Water can also slow the spread of a chlorine cloud, Batts said. It drizzled during one of Lebanon’s previous chlorine leaks, and the rain helped a lot, he said. Additionally, his department can dump one tanker at a time into a cloud of chlorine while they wait for the Hamilton County hazardous materials team.

Martin would also seek help from CSX Railroad.

The Boone County Health Department would monitor leaks into the surrounding soil and water. And the Salvation Army of Boone County would set up a cafeteria to serve displaced residents and emergency responders during the duration of such an event, said co-coordinator Kristen Linton.

MADISON, Wis. –

The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents voted unanimously Friday to fire a communications professor who wanted to keep his job after he was fired as chancellor of one of the system’s campuses for producing pornographic films.

Joe Gow, who served as UW-La Crosse’s chancellor for nearly 17 years, argued last week that he should retain a teaching position on campus. But the university’s lawyers argued that he behaved unethically, violated the terms of his employment contract, damaged the university’s reputation and compromised its mission.

The regents met in closed session Friday morning before publicly voting to fire Gow. There was no public discussion before the board vote.

Gow said he is considering filing a lawsuit to keep his teaching job. He did not immediately respond to a message Friday morning.

Gow has been on paid leave from his faculty position since the regents fired him as chancellor in 2023, shortly after university leadership became aware of the videos posted on pornographic websites.

The case has drawn national attention both for the salaciousness of a high-ranking university official making and speaking publicly about pornographic films and for the questions it raises about free speech rights.

Gow argued that his videos and two e-books that he and his wife Carmen published about their experiences in adult films were protected by the First Amendment. The university’s attorney argued that Gow’s videos themselves were legal, but that they were not protected by his employment contract.

Zach Greenberg, an attorney with the free speech advocacy group Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, called the regents’ decision “a major blow to academic freedom and the right to free expression.”

“FIRE has said time and time again: Public universities cannot sacrifice the First Amendment to protect their reputations,” Greenberg said. “We are disappointed that the UW has caved to donors and politicians by alienating a tenured professor.”

Republican lawmakers already view Wisconsin’s university system as a liberal incubator. Last year they forced the company to scale back its diversity initiatives. System President Jay Rothman has tried to avoid further angering conservatives as he seeks approval for an $855 million increase in the next state budget.

Gow’s hope of teaching in the classroom again was rejected by his department head, Linda Dickmeyer. She said that because Gow had not taught in 20 years, he would be assigned general education courses, but she declined to allow him to return to teaching in any capacity.

Gow was criticized in 2018 for inviting porn actress Nina Hartley to speak on campus. She received $5,000 from tuition fees for her performance. The university said he came up with the idea of ​​bringing her to campus after filming a pornographic video with her.

Gow and his wife’s e-books were written under the pseudonyms “Monogamy with Benefits: How Porn Enhances Our Relationships” and “Married with Benefits – Our Real Adventures in the Adult Industry.” But they also star in a YouTube channel called “Sexy Healthy Cooking,” in which the couple cooks meals with porn actors.
