The Xbox September Update is here, bringing a host of new features and changes to the Xbox experience on PC, mobile and consoles.

The most important new feature is the ability to pre-download a game’s upcoming updates on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One. This means that on the day the update is released, you don’t have to go through a long download, but you can start taking action straight away.

This could be an absolute game changer, especially for live service games that often receive a lot of new content. Unfortunately, the feature is currently only supported in a few select titles. The latest Xbox Wire blog post lists Sea of Thieves, Minecraft, And Cassette beasts below, but says to “expect many more titles to support it soon.”

If you want to try this feature, make sure your Xbox is up to date and then go to the My Games and Apps window. From there, click on “Manage” and “Updates”. This gives you an advance overview of all updates for your library that are available for download.

There are also changes to the Wishlist system, which will now notify you when a game you want is released, added to Xbox Game Pass, or available to try for free during a Free Play Day promotion. If you are not a fan of this change, please note that you can turn off these notifications in your notification settings.

The Xbox mobile app is also being revised. Features of the separate Xbox Game Pass app will be integrated, although this application will no longer be available for download in November. This means that with the Xbox app you can finally manage your Xbox Game Pass membership and browse the Xbox Game Pass catalog in one place.

Finally, Game Bar Compact Mode is now rolling out for PC gamers. This mode is specifically optimized for smaller displays and handhelds, which is good news if you own something like the Asus Rog Ally X.

Some improved game management features will also be available for the Xbox app on PC. This includes the ability to easily view and install add-ons, as well as some interface changes that make it easier to keep track of everything that’s installed. Considering how bad the Xbox app is on the platform, small improvements like this can only be a good thing.

The University of Wisconsin fires the porn industry’s former chancellor, who wanted to stay on as a professor

The University of Wisconsin fires the porn industry’s former chancellor, who wanted to stay on as a professor

The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents voted unanimously Friday to fire a communications professor who wanted to keep his job after he was fired as chancellor of one of the system’s campuses for producing pornographic films. Joe Gow, who had served as UW-La Crosse’s chancellor for nearly 17 years, argued last week that he should be retained in a teaching position on campus. But the university’s lawyers argued that he behaved unethically, violated the terms of his employment contract, damaged the university’s reputation and compromised its mission. The regents met in closed session Friday morning before publicly voting to fire Gow. There was no public discussion before the board vote. Gow said he is considering filing a lawsuit to keep his teaching job. He did not immediately respond to a message Friday morning. Gow has been on paid leave from his faculty position since the regents fired him as chancellor in 2023, shortly after university leaders became aware of the videos posted on pornographic websites. The case has drawn national attention both for the salaciousness of a high-ranking university official making pornographic films and speaking publicly about them and for the questions it raises about free speech rights. Gow argued that his videos and two e-books he and his wife Carmen have published about their experiences in adult films are protected by the First Amendment. The university’s attorney argued that Gow’s videos themselves were legal, but that they were not protected by his employment contract. Zach Greenberg, an attorney at the free speech advocacy group Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, called the regents’ decision “a major blow to…” academic freedom and the right to free speech.” “FIRE has said time and time again: Public universities cannot sacrifice the First Amendment to protect their reputation,” Greenberg said. “We are disappointed that the UW has caved to donors and politicians by alienating a tenured professor.” Republican lawmakers already view the Wisconsin university system as a liberal incubator. Last year they forced the company to scale back its diversity initiatives. System President Jay Rothman has tried to avoid further angering conservatives as he seeks approval for an $855 million increase in the next state budget. Gow’s hope of teaching in the classroom again was rejected by his department head, Linda Dickmeyer. She said because Gow hasn’t taught in 20 years, he will be assigned general education courses, but she refuses to allow him to return to teaching in any role. Gow was criticized in 2018 for inviting porn actress Nina Hartley to give a talk on campus. She received $5,000 from tuition fees for her performance. He came up with the idea of bringing her to campus after filming a pornographic video with her, the university said. Gow and his wife’s e-books were written under the pseudonyms “Monogamy with Benefits: How Porn Enhances Our Relationships” and “Married with Benefits.” Our real-life adventures in the adult industry.” But they also star in a YouTube channel called “Sexy Healthy Cooking,” in which the couple cooks meals with porn actors.

Jannik Sinner doping case: WADA appeals ITIA ruling and demands ban of up to two years

Jannik Sinner doping case: WADA appeals ITIA ruling and demands ban of up to two years

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has announced that it will appeal the finding of “no fault or negligence” in Jannik Sinner’s anti-doping case.

WADA is seeking a “ban of one or two years,” banning the world No. 1 tennis player and two-time Grand Slam champion from participating in the sport at all levels. Just three weeks ago Sinner won the US Open in New York.

The athlete has reached out to his camp for comment.

Sinner tested positive for Clostebol, a banned anabolic steroid, twice: on March 10 while in competition at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, and on March 18 out of competition.

An independent tribunal convened by the ITIA and led by Sports Resolutions ruled in a hearing on August 15 that Sinner was “not at fault or negligent” for those positive tests, but still found that Sinner had committed two anti-doping violations , for which he was responsible for being stripped of his ranking points, prize money and results from that event.

It accepted the Italian world number one’s explanation that Sinner’s physiotherapist Umberto Ferrara had brought an over-the-counter healing spray with Clostebol to Indian Wells. His coach, physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi, cut his hand and then used the spray on the cut. Naldi then performed massages on Sinner, which resulted in transdermal contamination with the Clostebol from the healing spray.

Sinner separated from Naldi and Ferrara on the eve of the US Open.

WADA is now challenging the decision that Sinner is not to blame for his violation. A statement released today, Saturday September 28th, said: “The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) confirms that it will appeal on Thursday September 26th in the case of the Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, who was found by an independent court of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) to be neither at fault nor negligent because he tested positive for Clostebol twice in March 2024 banned substance was tested.

“In WADA’s view, the finding of ‘no fault or negligence’ was incorrect under the applicable rules. WADA is requesting a ban of between one and two years. WADA does not seek to annul any results except those already imposed by the trial court.”

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner was penalized after testing positive for a banned substance twice

In response, the ITIA issued its own statement.

“The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) recognizes the decision of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to appeal against the “no fault or negligence” verdict in the case of Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, made by an independent, by Sport Resolutions on August 19, 2024. “Under the provisions of the World Anti-Doping Code, WADA has the final right to appeal against all such decisions,” an ITIA spokesperson said.

“Once we reached agreement on the facts following a thorough investigative process, the case was referred to a tribunal completely independent of the ITIA to determine the extent of the culpability and therefore the sanction given the unique circumstances and the absence of a comparable precedent .

“The trial was conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the World Anti-Doping Code; However, the ITIA recognizes and respects WADA’s right to appeal the decision of the independent arbitral tribunal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”

In the ITIA’s full decision, Professor David Cowan said: “Even if the administration had been intentional, the small amounts likely to have been administered would not have been.” […] any relevant doping or performance-enhancing effect on the player.”

A positive Clostebol test results in a mandatory interim suspension from tennis, but two other independent courts upheld Sinner’s appeals against those suspensions, which were active between April 4th and 5th and April 17th and 20th. The success of these appeals meant that the two positive tests and the associated suspensions were only made public after the ITIA investigation into the Sinner case had concluded. This led to accusations of double standards from some of Sinner’s tennis colleagues, but is in line with ITIA protocol.

In a statement released at the end of the investigation, Sinner said: “I will now put this very challenging and extremely unfortunate period behind me.” The best men’s tennis player in the world must now get back to it.

1 spectacular semiconductor stock down 21% that you’ll wish you had bought on the dip

1 spectacular semiconductor stock down 21% that you’ll wish you had bought on the dip

Micron just released another fantastic set of quarterly financial results powered by artificial intelligence.

When it comes to artificial intelligence (AI) chips, Nvidia is rightly the focus. Its data center graphics processing units (GPUs) are the best in the industry for developing AI models and helped the company gain a whopping $2.6 trillion to its market capitalization since the beginning of 2023.

But the AI landscape is growing rapidly and other semiconductor companies are also seeing significant demand for their hardware. Micron technology (MU -2.17%) is a leading provider of memory and storage chips, which are critical for the development of AI in the data center, but also for processing AI workloads in computers and smartphones.

Micron just released its latest financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2024 (ended August 29), and saw incredible growth across the company thanks to AI-driven demand. The stock is currently trading 21% below its all-time high (set earlier this year). Now could be a good time to buy for the following reasons.

AI has increasing storage capacity

Memory chips complement the data center GPUs provided by Nvidia. They store information in an operational state so it can be accessed immediately, which is essential for data-intensive AI workloads. AI has extremely high capacity memory chips, and Micron’s HBM3E (High-Bandwidth Memory) solutions are among the best in the industry.

In fact, Micron’s latest HBM3E 36 gigabyte (GB) devices offer up to 50% more capacity than any other device on the market while using 20% less energy. By 2026, the company’s data center storage solutions are completely sold out, which isn’t surprising since Nvidia is using its HBM3E in the new H200 GPU and possibly the upcoming Blackwell-based B200 GPU as well.

Micron believes it can maintain its technological supremacy in the HBM segment as the company is already working on HBM4E. The official launch is still a few years away, but it will provide a significant leap in capacity to drive the next stage of the AI revolution. Staying ahead is crucial because the market for HBM in the data center was worth just $4 billion in 2023, but Micron expects it to exceed $25 billion in 2025 will – a whopping growth of 525% in just two years!

But Micron’s AI capabilities extend beyond the data center. Companies are racing to bring AI personal computers to market for consumers and businesses, and Micron says most of them have a DRAM (memory) capacity of at least 16 gigabytes, and up to 16 gigabytes in the premium models to 64 GB. Last year, the average DRAM content in the PC industry was 12 GB, so the capacity requirement is increasing sharply, which has a direct positive impact on Micron’s sales.

The smartphone industry is experiencing a similar change. Most Android-based device manufacturers have recently launched AI-enabled models, and in many cases they come equipped with it twice the DRAM capacity of last year’s models. Micron’s LP5X memory is used by all Tier 1 Android smartphone manufacturers worldwide, making it the leader in this segment by a wide margin.

Micron’s sales are increasing rapidly

Micron reported fourth-quarter revenue of $7.75 billion, up 93% from the same period last year. This represents an acceleration from the company’s 81% revenue growth in the third quarter, showing how quickly demand is increasing.

The result was even stronger beneath the surface, driven by $3 billion in computing and networking (data center) revenue, up a whopping 152% year-over-year.

Tight supply of HBM chips for the data center also contributed to a sharp increase in Micron’s gross profit margin in the fourth quarter. It stood at 35.3%, a sharp increase from 26.9% just three months earlier and an even larger jump of 10.8%. reduce in the same quarter last year (when the company was struggling with a supply glut).

As a result, Micron’s earnings per share (EPS) came in at $0.79, a significant improvement from $1.31 Loss per share compared to the same period last year.

Micron expects to achieve further strength across the board in the upcoming first quarter of fiscal 2025 (ending November 30). Revenue is expected to be $8.7 billion, up 85% year over year, with earnings per share of $1.54.

Micron stock looks like a great value right now

Micron posted total earnings per share of just $0.70 for fiscal 2024 as the company suffered losses in the first half of the year. Therefore, it is difficult to value the company based on its profit over the last 12 months. But Wall Street expects Micron’s earnings per share to rise to $8.79 in fiscal 2025.

Based on Micron’s share price of $110.64 as of this writing, this means the company is trading at a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of just 12.6. From some perspective, that’s a 60% discount to Nvidia’s forward P/E ratio of 31.3.

I’m not trying to compare Micron to one of the hottest semiconductor stocks in history, but if you believe Nvidia will sell more data center GPUs, then Micron should also see parallel growth in its HBM3E solutions. Additionally, Micron has the added advantage of a potential AI-driven wave of demand in the personal computing and smartphone segments.

For these reasons, I think the valuation gap between the two stocks is likely to narrow. Ultimately, Micron shares would have to gain 28% from here to regain their all-time high of around $141, which they reached in June. Plus, loud The Wall Street JournalThe consensus price target for Micron shares is $157.71, implying even further upside potential beyond the record high.

Given the strong results Micron just reported and its guidance for the coming quarter, now seems like a good time to buy its shares.

Brighton reverses parking increases in war on cars that have driven away visitors

Brighton reverses parking increases in war on cars that have driven away visitors

Brighton is reversing a crackdown on drivers that has driven visitors away from the seaside resort.

The Labour-run East Sussex council is cutting parking fees, which rose to as much as £33.50 a day under the previous Green government.

The Greens had claimed that high prices would help create a “car-free” city that would be more attractive to visitors.

But Brighton and Hove City Council has now admitted the charges were so high that they were damaging the local tourism industry by putting off day-trippers.

Cllr Trevor Muten, cabinet member for transport, said parking fees had “increased to the point where they are becoming more of a deterrent than an incentive for some visitors”.

He added: “We have more than 200 different permit tariffs and the demand for parking has spread from the city center to the outskirts of the city. “We need to change.”

A review carried out by the council this month found it was expected to lose out on £1.16m in parking revenue by April 2025 due to high charges.

“Anti-car reputation”

Cllr Alistair McNair, leader of the opposition Conservative group on the council, told The Telegraph: “Parking revenues have fallen and the council has a reputation for being anti-car.”

“We hope that residence permit holders will also receive a reduction in their fees and that this city will become car-friendly, which also means family and disabled-friendly.”

But he warned: “While this reduction in parking fees is welcome, it is a gamble as revenue could fall even further because the city’s reputation has been damaged for years.”

Brighton is one of several British cities that have tried to reduce incentives for driving in recent years by charging residents for parking permits on top of council taxes and increasing fees for on-street parking.

But the council’s Labor leadership, which took power in May last year, is moving away from the approach taken by a minority Green government between July 2020 and May 2023.

Cllr Samar Bagaeen, an independent opposition councillor, welcomed the council’s “u-turn”.

“The council’s parking approach has been both flawed and counterproductive for several years, damaging the city’s night-time economy,” he said.

“Prices have risen exponentially in all car parks over the last decade, meaning even parking for an hour represents very poor value for money.

Steady decline since 2021

Brighton and Hove City Council said the use of council car parks has fallen steadily since 2021 and average hourly charges are higher than most other cities.

Last year it was estimated that higher charges had reduced the council’s parking revenue by up to £1.2 million.

The council has now announced that rates will be reduced at its car parks in The Lanes, Regency Square, London Road, Trafalgar Street and Norton Road.

Hourly and evening rates will also be reduced to support the night-time economy and encourage people to use underutilized parking spaces.

“Brighton and Hove has a busy night-time economy and it’s important we do everything we can to increase footfall and help these local businesses thrive,” Cllr Muten said.

Other cities have introduced higher parking fees to reduce car use.

In the London borough of Southwark, the Labor council increased permit costs by up to 368 percent to force a “reduction in vehicles.”

Lambeth Labor council has vowed to make the borough “diesel free” and in May last year increased one-year permits for diesel engines to up to £140, a price increase of £42 compared to 2022.

If you are unable to watch EPL matches locally, you may need another way to watch the games – this is where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to prevent your ISP from throttling your speeds on game day by encrypting your traffic. It’s also a good idea if you’re traveling and connected to a Wi-Fi network and want to add some extra privacy to your devices and logins.

A VPN allows you to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to gain access to the game. Most VPNs, like our Editors’ Choice ExpressVPN, make this really easy.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you are streaming. You should make sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even if VPNs are legal, the streaming service can terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Quick tips for streaming the Premier League via a VPN

  • With four variables at play – your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN – your experience and success streaming EPL games may vary.
  • If you don’t see your desired location as the default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “Search by city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble receiving the game after turning on your VPN and setting it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log in to your streaming service subscription account and ensure that the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing range. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file in your account. Second, some smart TVs – like Roku – don’t have VPN apps that you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll need to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you use (such as your phone) so that every device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main page for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases, with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you may be asked to confirm a numeric code or click a link that is sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. A VPN on your router also helps here, as both devices then appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember that browsers can often reveal a location despite using a VPN. Therefore, make sure you use a privacy-focused browser to log into your services. We usually recommend Brave.

Vice presidential debate rules for next week’s showdown between Walz and Vance have been announced

Vice presidential debate rules for next week’s showdown between Walz and Vance have been announced

WASHINGTON – JD Vance and Tim Walz’s microphones will remain active during Tuesday’s vice presidential debate, even when it’s their opponent’s turn. This is according to debate rules published by CBS News on Friday and agreed upon by both campaigns.

However, CBS News reserves the right to turn off contestants’ microphones if the anchors deem it necessary.

The agreement represents a departure from the Sept. 10 presidential debate between Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump, in which the microphone was muted throughout for the candidate who did not answer a question.

Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz are scheduled for an Oct. 1 vice presidential debate in New York City.

Leading up to the presidential debate, there was much disagreement over whether the microphones should be hot or muted. The Harris campaign unsuccessfully pushed to keep both Trump and Harris’ microphones active. However, the two sides agreed on the issue of the VP debate.

Here are additional rules and guidelines for the debate, which will take place at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City. CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell and Face the Nation anchor Margaret Brennan will moderate the debate.

Husband develops obsession with decades-long tryst with wife – Chicago Tribune

Husband develops obsession with decades-long tryst with wife – Chicago Tribune

Dear Eric: I am 80 years old and have been married to the best woman possible for 33 years. We connect and are soulmates. My question is: Why have I been jealous lately of her affair with a 17 year old high school student even though she was 27 and a teacher? This was mentioned a long time ago in our past relationship report. Why has this reactive jealousy consumed me now? I want to know a lot of details about this encounter, but I realize that this will only delve me deeper into my obsession. My constant rumination is putting a strain on my side of our marriage. What can I do?

– Past repeat

Dear Repeat: Whenever seemingly random events from the past enter my mind, I always think of the moment in a crime drama when a body floats to the surface of a swamp, only to be discovered years after the first crime. Like the plot of a crime drama, these mysterious feelings always involve more questions than answers and are never really about what they initially seem to be about.

What your wife did wasn’t appropriate, but it doesn’t sound like this new obsession is about ethical violations. I don’t think it’s even about what happened in the past. If you have the resources, talking to a counselor or therapist about this fixation can help you get to the bottom of what you’re really stressed about. Maybe something is changing in your marriage, maybe you’re worried about yourself or your body. These things are normal and it is possible to change the way you think about them so that the movies stop playing in your head. Your local aging department may also be able to point you to free or low-cost counseling options for seniors

It’s also important to draw a clear line between what’s going on in your head and what’s going on in your marriage. Tell your wife that you can’t stop fixating on this event and also what you plan to do to remedy it. Don’t make your obsession their problem, but if there’s something in your marriage that needs to be addressed, disclosing what else is going on in your head will pave the way for a healthier discussion.

Dear Eric: About three years ago, a work friend “T” and I quickly became close. T profusely confessed her (platonic) love. I, an untrusting person who usually keeps others at a distance, thought I had found a new “best friend.”

But every now and then, and completely unexpectedly, T slips into “bad girl” mode.

She will make derogatory comments about my appearance, snap at me over seemingly trivial things, and act annoyed and angry during our encounter. In group situations, the irritation seems to focus on my behavior and not that of others.

We had an argument before, after which I ended the friendship. A year later we reconciled when she contacted us. But on a recent weekend trip together, their “bad girl” reared its ugly head. When I told her how it made me feel, she apologized and said it was because I wasn’t listening to her enough.

These episodes are also a painful reminder of my sister, who has a personality disorder and exhibits similar behavior towards me. I eventually had to distance myself from her for my own well-being.

It’s difficult to form close friendships in middle age, and I don’t want to give up my friendship with T, but I can’t continue to feel like her emotional punching bag. Any ideas on how we can handle this situation without losing the good part of our relationship?

– Undermine and over it

Dear Undermined: At some point before I met you, T realized that she should be aggressively mean when she didn’t get the attention she wanted. And she learned that to get someone to like her, she should bombard someone with love. None of these lessons are true, and now you are suffering because of them.

Worse, because T’s behavior mimics your sister’s, it’s likely causing you to put up with it longer than you otherwise would. This is a terrible situation to be in and I’m sorry.

Try talking to T in a non-mean girl moment while setting a clear boundary. Even if she doesn’t feel listened to, offensive language or behavior is a no-go. Tell her that she needs to control herself to maintain this relationship. Ask her if she understands how you feel about this and what her plan is to put your friendship on a healthier course.

If T doesn’t respect your boundaries, your safest bet is to limit contact with her. I hope she can be the best friend you deserve, but for your own well-being, she may be best as an arm’s length friend.
