NASA launched its Crew-9 mission from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida today, September 28, 2024, at 10:46 pm IST.

The goal of this mission is to rescue astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore, who have been stranded on the International Space Station (ISS) since June 6, 2024 due to complications with their original spacecraft, Boeing’s Starliner.

The Crew 9 mission will transport NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov to the ISS.

What is unique is that only two crew members are used on this flight instead of the usual four, as the remaining seats are reserved for the return journey of Williams and Wilmore. The Crew Dragon spacecraft is expected to dock with the ISS on September 29th.

Williams and Wilmore’s extended stay aboard the ISS was due to technical problems with their Starliner capsule, which experienced multiple helium leaks and engine failures during the docking process.

After careful consideration, NASA deemed it too risky to return the astronauts on the Starliner and opted for an unmanned return of the spacecraft on September 6th.

NASA’s Commercial Crew Program was pivotal in facilitating crew rotation to the ISS. The Crew-9 mission marks the ninth operational flight for SpaceX under this program since its launch in 2020.

After returning to Earth, Williams and Wilmore are expected to reunite with Hague and Gorbunov for a five-month science mission aboard the ISS.

In the event of an emergency prior to Crew-9’s arrival, a contingency plan is in place that allows Williams and Wilmore to use the Crew-8 Dragon capsule, currently docked with the ISS, for a rapid evacuation.

Ken Bowersox, NASA’s associate administrator for space operations, acknowledged the challenges the astronauts faced during this extended mission but expressed confidence in their ability to adapt and thrive in space.

Syracuse, NY – Syracuse football gave up two third-and-long conversions to Holy Cross on a scoring drive early in the game.

Jayden Bellamy had two potential interceptions dropped on separate plays.

But on third-and-14 midway through the fourth quarter, Bellamy finally secured the ball. He made it 33 yards to the end zone to make up for the earlier mistakes.

It was the final scoring play of the game as the Orange defeated the Crusaders 42-14 on Saturday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome.

Bellamy led SU with five tackles, followed by four teammates with four tackles each: Duce Chestnut, Denis Jaquez Jr., Derek McDonald and Devin Grant.

Syracuse (3-1) didn’t have to play its starters until the fourth quarter in its matchup with the FCS program, but that’s exactly what happened Saturday afternoon as a hot start cooled into a room-temperature win.

The game was sloppy on both sides of the ball, but at the end of the game SU’s defense seemed better than its offense or special teams.

Quarterback Kyle McCord finished his first game this season with a completion percentage under 60% and had two interceptions and a fumble. He still threw for 385 yards and four touchdowns, making him the first Syracuse QB with four consecutive 300-yard games.

The offensive line allowed three sacks against McCord, but he exited early with about eight minutes left in the game while SU was ahead 42-14 and was replaced by Michael Johnson Jr.

Starting kicker Brady Denaburg blocked a field goal attempt and then missed a second, both in the third quarter when the Orange could have used the morale boost of the six points. Jadyn Oh replaced him.

But the stats don’t illustrate how chaotic things were at times for the Orange.

Take Syracuse’s second-to-last drive of the third quarter.

Perfectly set up by a wayward Holy Cross punt that went out of bounds at the 20-yard line, the Orange offense looked sloppy.

McCord threw the first down pass right into a block from a Holy Cross safety who was just a few feet in front of him. He then fumbled the ball out of bounds while trying to escape a sack.

McCord successfully got the ball out of his hands on third down and targeted tight end Oronde Gadsden II in the end zone, but the ball went incomplete. Despite seven targets, Gadsden only had one catch all afternoon.

Denaburg came out with a 28-yard attempt. It was blocked and the Orange got away with no points.

What Holy Cross (1-4) managed to do when it scored its two touchdowns and cut the Orange’s lead to one point late in the second quarter rattled the Orange for the rest of the game.

The first touchdown, a 63-yard connection over the middle between QB Joe Pensansky and receiver Max Mosey, came shortly after the Orange had a 21-point lead.

SU’s offense was in full swing all night, starting with a 10-yard rush by LeQuint Allen to start the afternoon.

It scored on its first three drives and moved the ball over 70 yards on each. McCord broke 200 yards on 12 completions in the first 15 minutes.

But when the Orange Offensive came out after Holy Cross touched down, the check engine light came on.

Syracuse failed after five plays and finished with just two net yards as McCord was sacked for a 10-yard loss following a missed block by Enrique Cruz. Punter Jack Stonehouse made his first appearance of the afternoon.

Holy Cross drove 74 yards down the field on its next drive. The Orange defense allowed two conversions on third-and-long balls and only rushed for three each while shifting to a 3-3-5 coverage.

The Crusaders scored again. Pensansky threw the ball to his running back, who made the pass to a tight end in space on the right side.

Syracuse’s three-point lead fell to just one: 21-14.

The Orange scored after a two-minute drill drive capped by a 4-yard reception from Trebor Peña, but those were their last points until LeQuint Allen scored his first rushing touchdown at the very end with a 1-yard rush Season scored third quarter.

Despite the attacking difficulties, Allen had a big day. He finished with 135 total yards, 81 of which came on the ground on 16 carries.

The offensive player, however, was wide receiver Jackson Meeks, the first outside of Peña or Gadsden to hold that role this season. He caught 10 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown in the second quarter.

Some of Syracuse’s younger new faces also made big plays late in the game, which helped the game end better than it could have been.

True freshman edge rusher KingJoseph Edwards had two sacks in the fourth quarter. Davien Kerr had a big return on a punt. Jamie Tremble celebrated his first reception in an orange uniform.

Kinda Alaissami also said her father, a Syrian in his 70s, took a taxi to Beirut airport and saw “bombs exploding all around, so it was very scary, a terrible night.”

It comes as Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed after Israeli airstrikes in Beirut on Friday along with other group commanders.

The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement: “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorize the world.”

Hezbollah said it would continue fighting after Nasrallah’s death, adding that it had fired rockets at sites in northern Israel.

While Israel stressed it was a “precise” attack, preliminary figures from Lebanon’s health ministry said at least six more people were killed and 91 injured.

According to Iranian state media, Abbas Nilforoushan, deputy commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, was also killed in the Israeli attacks on Beirut.

Pittsburgh Steelers DST – Fantasy Football Outlook

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been strong defensively this season, giving up the fewest yards and points per contest in the NFL. They are primed for more success at home against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4.

Although the Indianapolis offense has put up a respectable number of points over the last three weeks, Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson currently leads the league in interceptions thrown. If running back Jonathan Taylor struggles against a Steelers defense that allows the second-fewest rushing yards per game,

Richardson could be forced to throw the ball as he deals with intense pressure from DPOY favorite TJ Watt. Fantasy managers should include Pittsburgh’s DST in lineups of all shapes and sizes on Sunday.

New York Jets DST – Fantasy Football Outlook

The New York Jets defense pulled off a great draw at home against the Denver Broncos in Week 4. The Broncos have struggled offensively this season, ranking 23rd in points per game and 26th in yards per game through three weeks.

The Jets have one of the most talented defenses in the league and are in a great situation at home against rookie quarterback Bo Nix. With New York considered a 7.5-point home favorite in a game with a low over/under ratio of 39.5, fantasy gamers should be confident heading into Week 4 with the Jets defense.

Cleveland Browns DST – Fantasy Football Outlook

The Cleveland Browns defense will hit the road to face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4. Cleveland’s defense was solid through three games, recording nine sacks, good for tenth in the league.

The Raiders will call on Gardner Minshew II at center after benching him for Aiden O’Connell last week, but Minshew is on a leash after throwing just three touchdowns and three interceptions in the first three games of the season Thrown and didn’t score a vote of confidence from head coach Antonio Pierce during the week.

However, the Browns’ defense enters Week 4 pretty banged up, as Myles Garrett (foot, hamstring, hamstring), Jordan Hicks (ribs, elbow) and Mike Ford (knee) all missed a few practices this week due to their respective injuries. Hurricane Helene has left its mark on North Carolina and many residents are trying to make sense of the devastation it left in its wake.

Helene brought heavy rains, strong winds, damaging debris and flooding to the state. Power outages and life-threatening flash floods were reported in the western part of the state.

In many areas of North Carolina, such as Chimney Rock and Asheville, residents experienced heavy rain. The highest rainfall reported was 29.5 inches in Busick Raws, Yancey County, North Carolina, Gov. Roy Cooper’s office said.

The heavy rains prompted Rutherford County Emergency Management to issue an immediate evacuation notice to residents near Lake Lure Dam on Friday morning.

On Friday evening, the county government office provided an update on the dam’s water level.

“The water level in Lake Lure has stopped rising and is beginning to decline,” the county government office wrote in a Facebook post. “Emergency personnel rescued over 25 people through rapid water rescue, EMS, fire and law enforcement.”

Emergency personnel provided an update around 9:00 p.m. local time that the storm had knocked out many phone lines across the county, particularly in Lake Lure.

“Especially that we hear the leaders of the opposition party and the mainstream media branding him a threat to democracy and calling him vile names,” she said. “You’re just fueling a toxic atmosphere and giving all these people the power to harm him.” This has to stop. This has to stop. The country must unite.”

Trump’s session was the first interview she granted to a major media outlet in more than two years, and it came as she was promoting a new book.

Remnants of Hurricane Helene are leaving East Tennessee and Dollywood is returning to its normal schedule, according to park spokesman Wes Ramey.

Dollywood opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. on September 28, allowing guests to enjoy the full Harvest Festival experience after the impact of Helene disrupted park operations in recent days.

Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa and Dollywood’s HeartSong Lodge & Resort will also remain open during regular hours.

According to the National Weather Service, the Pigeon Forge area is under a flood warning until midnight on September 28th. According to the National Park Service on September 27, parts of the Great Smoky National Park in East Tennessee received more than 9 inches of rain in the last few days.

Fulham ended Nottingham Forest’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-0 win at the City Ground.

There was little choice between two teams separated by just a point at kick-off, but Raul Jimenez’s second-half penalty, awarded for Murillo’s foul on Andreas Pereira, proved crucial.

Forest got off to a bright start when Taiwo Awoniyi missed an early chance, while Chris Wood saw a potential opener disallowed for offside in the 25th minute, with a VAR review confirming on-field referee Joshua Smith’s decision .

However, without the suspended Morgan Gibbs-White, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team failed to find the spark as Fulham’s impressive start to the 2024/25 season continued.

The result leaves Forest ninth in the table with nine points, while Fulham overtake their hosts to move up to sixth with 11 points.

How the game developed

It was Forest who had the first chance after a quiet opening when Awoniyi – in his first start of the season – shot wide after a long throw caused chaos in the Fulham penalty area.

Wood then thought he had given the hosts the lead but his shot, which crept just over the line, was disallowed for offside and a VAR check confirmed the decision.

Almost immediately after the restart, another VAR review resulted in Murillo being penalized for stepping on Pereira’s foot. Jimenez made no mistake from the penalty spot, scoring the top right corner for his 50th Premier League goal.

As Forest watched the game, Nuno introduced Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi, and the latter almost found the top right corner after a slalom run into the box.

It was a nervy finish for Fulham, but they held on for eight minutes of stoppage time and survived a late siege of their penalty area to take three vital points.

Nuno’s changes fail

With Gibbs-White suspended following his red card at Brighton last week, Forest boss Nuno was forced to make attacking changes.

He opted for the added physical presence of Awoniyi, who worked with top scorer Wood in a two-pronged attack to unsettle the Fulham defense. Things worked to some extent in the early stages, with a number of set pieces causing problems for the visitors.

Unfortunately for Forest, however, it appeared that Awoniyi’s inclusion prevented Wood from playing his natural game, reflected in the fact that he only touched the ball five times in the entire first half.

Awoniyi was replaced by Elanga immediately after the break as the hosts looked to add more dynamism to the game, but it was Fulham who made the breakthrough before producing a resolute defensive performance.

Despite a positive start to the new season, Forest have now gone six games without a win on home soil and things won’t be much easier for them next time out when they take on in-form Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Fulham are flying high

Marco Silva will have been pleased to see Fulham continue their strong form against a side who went into the game as one of just four unbeaten sides in the Premier League.

The away team had to work hard for the win and were not at their best, but Jimenez – who also scored the opening goal against Newcastle United last week – was there again to secure the points.

Adama Traore, Emile Smith Rowe and Alex Iwobi have all impressed behind Jimenez this season.

But it was their defense that earned the plaudits against Forest, turning away everything that was thrown at them.

Fulham have only conceded five goals this season but they face a big test in their next game when they take on champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
