Verizon and AT&T wireless customers have found they are unable to make calls, send or receive text messages, or download mobile data. At the time of publishing this article, the issue does not appear to have been resolved.

Throughout the morning, users complained on social media that their phones were displaying “SOS” mode, which allows for emergency calls but nothing else. Mobile phones sometimes offer this if the user does not have a SIM card registered on the device. Resetting the device and other common solutions do not solve the problem. For most of the morning, Verizon did not respond to the reports.

Within a few hours, more than 100,000 users reported problems on the Downdetector website. The problem does not appear to be limited to a particular part of the country; Users in California reported issues, as did users on the East Coast and Chicago, among others.

At 10 a.m., some AT&T users also began reporting problems. Outage maps based on user-reported data found that the outages were particularly common in parts of the country otherwise affected by Hurricane Helene.

After a period of silence, Verizon acknowledged the issue in a public statement. “We are aware of an issue affecting service for some customers,” a spokesperson told NBC News and others. “Our engineers are committed and we are working quickly to identify and resolve the issue.”

However, the spokesman did not provide any information about the reasons for the failure. However, it is not the first major outage of an online service this year. AT&T has experienced an outage before, and the CrowdStrike-related outage of Microsoft services caused chaos and made headlines in July.

Kris Kristofferson is remembered not only for his contributions to film and music after his death, but also for his character.

Following his death at age 88 on Saturday, September 28, fans of Kristofferson have reflected on some other memorable moments in the singer-songwriter’s career, such as when he comforted Sinéad O’Connor after her controversial performance in 1992 Saturday Night Live.

After the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer – who died in July 2023 at the age of 56 – notably ripped up a photo of Pope John II in response to the Catholic Church’s alleged cover-up of child sexual abuse at the time, said O’ Connor was scheduled to perform at a Bob Dylan tribute concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City just a few weeks later.

During the performance on October 16, 1992, as the musician was greeted with both boos and belligerent cheers from the audience, Kristofferson put an arm around O’Connor and gave her a few words of encouragement.

She wrote about the ordeal in her 2021 memoir Memories: Scenes from my complicated lifein which she described the boos and cheers as “a noise the likes of which I have never heard and which I can only describe as being like a clap of thunder that never ends.”

“The loudest noise I’ve ever heard. “I feel really sick and my eardrums are about to burst,” O’Connor wrote. “I walk back and forth on stage for a while. I realize I’m f—ed when I start the song because the vocals are so whispered that both sides will drown me out in the audience battle,” she continued. “And I can’t afford not to be heard; the booers will take it as a victory.”

While O’Connor was scheduled to perform Dylan’s 1979 track “I Believe in You,” she instead decided to sing an a cappella version of Bob Marley’s “War.”

A rep for Kristofferson confirmed to PEOPLE that he died “peacefully” this weekend surrounded by his family at his home in Maui.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our husband/father/grandfather Kris Kristofferson passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 28th. We are all so blessed for our time with him. “Thank you for loving him all these many years and when you see a rainbow, know that he is smiling down on all of us,” the family statement said.

UNODC’s mission is to contribute to the achievement of security and justice for all by making the world safer from crime, drugs and terrorism.

One of the important goals of prison staff is to contribute to public safety through the safe and humane treatment of suspects and offenders and the provision of opportunities for rehabilitation and reintegration. Training prison staff is essential to enable them to mitigate potential prison threats and find solutions to address prison challenges overall. UNODC’s approach to supporting the penal system is based on international norms and standards, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (the Nelson Mandela Rules). From July 18 to 20, 2022, UNODC conducted a three-day workshop on training curricula for prison officers and the Nelson Mandela Rules in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The aim of the workshop was to review the current prison officer curriculum and explain the institutionalization of the UNODC e-learning course on the Nelson Mandela Rules into the regular prison officer curriculum. Twenty corrections system officials attended the workshop.

“Capacity building is particularly important for prison staff working with prisoners convicted of extremism and terrorism. Our priority is to improve the skills of our staff to work more effectively with these prisoner groups. After a thrilling win over Georgia on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium, Alabama football goes on the road this week. The Crimson Tide travels to Vanderbilt on Saturday for head coach Kalen DeBoer’s first SEC road game.

The Commodores are coming off a bye week after a heartbreaking overtime loss to Missouri in Columbia. Clark Lea’s group is 2-2 this season, already exceeding VU’s typically low expectations, but has lost its last two games, against both the Tigers and Georgia State.

Saturday’s game is Alabama’s first afternoon slot of the season. The game is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. CT in Nashville and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.

Before the game, DeBoer and UA coordinators Nick Sheridan and Kane Wommack spoke to reporters Monday in Tuscaloosa. Here are the highlights of the press conference.

– Sheridan opens the press conference. The first question concerns tight end CJ Dippre. Sheridan says Dippre’s size and the difficulty of tackling him make him unique.
