Frank Darabont says Stranger Things 5 brought him out of retirement

Frank Darabont, best known as a helmsman The Shawshank Redemptionrevealed why the fifth and final part of Netflix Stranger Things brought him out of a retirement that had lasted more than decades.

While speaking to The Daily Beast in a retrospective interview marking the groundbreaking film’s 30th anniversary, Darabont said it was a similar line of hope that led him to direct parts of the upcoming season.

“What really brought me out of retirement was that my wife and I really love this show,” he said. “Our content is now so full of terrible people doing terrible things for greedy reasons Stranger Things has so much heart. I really responded to that positivity.”

When asked if this would mean he would get back into filmmaking, the three-time Oscar nominee replied: “Who knows? I didn’t miss the business, but I missed being on set with creative people… It may be done, but we still have time.”

Next to the indelible ShawshankDarabont is known for another Stephen King adaptation, The Green Mile starring Tom Hanks, which he directed and wrote. The director was also the developer and executive producer of the first seasons of The walking dead. His most recent project was directing episodes of the Jon Bernthal-directed crime drama Mob Cityin which he also acted as creator.

The highly anticipated one Stranger Things As the Duffer Brothers noted in an Instagram post back in July, season five is already well into the second half of production. The blockbuster sci-fi teen series will take viewers back to the Upside Down and the brewing war against the ever-present Vecna, although much about the series’ plot is still under wraps. With eight episodes left, there are three new cast members. Although star Maya Hawke recently commented that the lengthy filming process was akin to “making basically eight movies,” showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer have explained that the upcoming installment will have a shorter runtime than Season 4, which is about a Few went episodes that ran well over the hour mark.

Algiers Charter Schools says school bus service may not be available to students until Thursday

Algiers Charter School officials said parents should expect the charter system to not be able to offer guaranteed school bus service until Thursday. They tell WDSU they were able to contact a neighboring service to provide assistance. This after the NOPD confirmed that someone went into the school bus yard behind LB Landry High School in Algiers and took approximately 20 catalytic converters from the school buses. This impacted the fleet on Monday. Approximately 1,400 parents from three different locations were notified that they would need to find a ride for their children or allow them to attend school virtually for a day. While the New Orleans Police Department investigates the matter and considers possible surveillance in the area, Algiers Charter officials said they would do their best to accommodate student pickup and drop-off. “Whether it’s getting some converts quickly or partnering with some neighboring transportation companies and even charter schools. We are trying to get our students back to school,” said Dr. Tammi Griffin, chief executive officer of the Algiers Charter Schools Association.Orleans Parish Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams also released this statement on the matter: “Recently, 20 school buses were destroyed at Algiers Charter, disrupting transportation for students. As the leader of NOLA Public Schools, I ask those responsible to please understand the implications. “Stealing from our schools is not just a crime. They steal opportunities from our students, cause stress for families, and undermine the hard work of teachers and staff. Our students deserve an uninterrupted education, free from obstacles like these. Let’s protect our schools and ensure our children have the opportunity to succeed. Together we can create a safer and stronger future for our scientists.”

Escort, who live-streamed her mother’s murder on Facebook, pleads insanity

Escort, who live-streamed her mother’s murder on Facebook, pleads insanity

A former California escort who stabbed her mother to death while live-streaming the incident on Facebook has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Tonantzyn Oris Beltran, 29, added the insanity plea to her original not guilty plea during a court appearance Thursday.

Tonantzyn Oris Beltran, 29, is accused of killing her mother, 55-year-old Olivia Lucia Beltran Pacheco. Press Jam

Beltran is charged with the January murder of her mother, Olivia Lucia Beltran Pacheco, a respected community activist in Marin County. She violently stabbed Pacheco, 55, on her balcony in San Rafael and was found “standing next to a stabbed female victim with a knife in her hand and wearing blood-soaked clothing,” cops said.

Viewers who saw the livestream before it was taken down reported the situation to San Rafael police. Officers burst through the front door after Beltran refused to respond.

Pacheco was still alive when officers handcuffed her daughter, but died shortly afterwards at a local hospital.

Marin County Superior Court Judge Geoffrey Howard, who is presiding over Beltran’s case, ordered a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether she meets the legal requirements to be considered mentally ill, according to the Mercury News.

If she is found to be mentally ill, Beltran will be committed to a state hospital or psychiatric treatment facility.

On the day she livestreamed her mother’s murder, Beltran had gone to the Santa Rose police station to pick up her impounded car, where officers there noticed she looked like she had, according to a since-deleted TikTok video “some mental health issues.” Posted by daughter.

In another video she posted the same day, Pacheco could be seen begging her Beltran to calm down as she became increasingly unhinged.

“You have to stop hurting yourself and putting yourself in danger,” the mother reportedly told her.

According to the Mercury News, Beltran also has a history of drug and alcohol abuse that has continued since she tried her first drink at age four.

“Drugs gave me escape, relief, false happiness, they were like a bandage to self-medicate,” she said, according to the outlet.

“I was homeless for a while because I felt a lot of hatred towards my mother. I didn’t know where that came from. But I couldn’t change that feeling, even though she seemed like a saint and always loved me very much.”

Beltran’s next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 12.

Joshua Jackson stars as Dr. Nice Guy at Sea

Joshua Jackson stars as Dr. Nice Guy at Sea

“Welcome aboard the Odyssey.”

On Wednesday, Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken challenged audiences to explore the macabre with their FX horror series “Grotesquerie.” Shifting gears to the brighter side of humanity, the same series creators premiered a new medical drama called Doctor Odyssey the following night. The main role is played by Joshua Jackson Dr. Max Bankman. His Yale-trained doctor is tasked with treating medical emergencies aboard a luxury cruise ship.

In the first few minutes of the show’s premiere, Dr. Bankman is introduced to Smokey Robinson’s “Cruisin'” as he gets dressed for his first day on the job. Taking on a new job can often be an intimidating undertaking, but this doctor likes to wear Hawaiian shirts and you just know he’s laid back. Post-COVID, he moves through the next phase of his life by boarding the Odyssey, a beautifully designed and sophisticated cruise ship full of honeymooners and vacationing retirees.

The Good Doctor’s staff may be small, but it’s certainly powerful, as its new medical offices resemble a top-notch hospital with a few caveats. There’s nurse/obvious lovesick Avery (Phillipa Soo), who works with nurse Tristan (Sean Teale), a competitive and egotistical young man whose heart is set on Avery. All three report to Captain Robert Massey (Don Johnson), a respected man who asks his staff to take on the role of guardian angels for the guests who come aboard.

Dr. Bankman easily transitions from country doctor to one of the greatest medics to ever set sail on the high seas. Initially, several notable emergencies require his watchful eye and skills, including a guest who ate too much shrimp, resulting in iodine poisoning. As the series premiere progresses, however, the medical cases increase and it becomes clear that the restrictions of the atmosphere on a cruise ship do not meet the high standards that Dr. Bankman is used to this due to his previous surgical experience.

Doctor Odyssey is presented as a typical medical procedural drama, but when it comes to executive producer and co-creator Murphy, none of his series can ever be described as typical. Jackson sheds some of the nastier roles he’s built up on his resume in recent years (“Dr. Death,” “Fatal Attraction”) and steps into the new era of “Dr. Nice Guy”. As Dr. Bankman is Jackson’s effortlessly charming, personable and quick on his feet, urging his audience to embrace the journey of work-life balance at sea.

And boy, does he look good in white pants.

Doctor Odyssey Sean Teale Don Johnson Joshua Jackson Philippa Soo ABC

The chemistry between Jackson and Soo makes this series premiere captivating as the two get to know each other while drinking on exotic beaches. Your characters live in a floating circus, and in a small moment of intimacy, the doctor shares some traumatic experiences with his nurse, adding depth to a man looking for adventure while showcasing his dance moves. There are moments in the series where the drama is in full swing, particularly when someone says the terrifying words “man overboard” while navigating the waters of ease.

Comparisons are inevitable between Doctor Odyssey and The Love Boat, as each episode promises new guests and new medical problems for Jackson’s character to solve. The premiere gave us an underused Rachel Dratch, but the series promises more prominent cast members like Shania Twain, John Stamos, Kelsea Ballerini, and frequent Murphy collaborators Chord Overstreet and Cheyenne Jackson in future guest roles.

“The body is a miraculous healing machine,” notes Dr. Bankman tells Avery, drawing attention to the many situations he faced in his distinguished medical career. But everything about “Dr. Odyssey” has so far stuck to the surface of the glamorous life on a cruise ship, where anything can happen at any time. The series starts strong, but it will be fascinating to see where the good doctor takes his patients as the season progresses.

“Doctor Odyssey” airs Thursdays on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.

A Las Vegas woman was found dead in the desert after disappearing from a spy shop

A Las Vegas woman was found dead in the desert after disappearing from a spy shop

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AZFamily) – In 1997, a young Las Vegas woman disappeared from a spy shop, leading to a frantic search that lasted months. Store owner John Flowers claimed Ginger Rios left his store that day.

Her disappearance led to so much more being uncovered.

A few months later, Flowers’ wife accidentally reveals to detectives the horror she experienced when her husband killed Ginger Rios. She led investigators to a remote part of the Arizona desert, where not only Rios’ body was found, but also another unidentified victim.

PART 1: True Crime Arizona Podcast: SPYKILLER – The Disappearance of the Spy Shop

It would take years and the invention of the former social platform MySpace to figure out who this second victim was and identify her as teenager Christina Martinez, who investigators believe was killed by John Flowers in his Phoenix spy shop.

Flowers manipulated the legal system, first declaring him unfit to stand trial and then concluding that he was faking it. In the end, he entered into two plea deals for the deaths, but indicated to authorities that there were other victims.

Witnesses, physical evidence and expert psychological analysis have led investigators to believe there are other unknown victims of John Flowers, but he is just years away from serving his prison sentences for the deaths of Ginger Rios and Christina Martinez.

While everyone knew him as John Flowers, his real name is Craig Jacobsen, although he went by 13 different pseudonyms over the course of two decades.

PART 2: True Crime Arizona Podcast: SPYKILLER: A Bizarre Confession

“Spy Killer: The Girls in the Desert” is the latest documentary from True Crime Arizona. It’s the culmination of years of investigations into a deranged spy shop owner, two missing girls, horrific discoveries in the desert and a race against time before the suspected serial killer is released.

While sitting in a prison cell, he wrote an email to the documentary’s host and true crime correspondent Briana Whitney during the production of this documentary. Police believe half of the details he discussed are true, mixed with lies and untruths.

Below is the full email correspondence via the Arizona Dept. of Corrections system:

Hello Craig, thank you for the message. I’m a reporter working on a story about Ginger Rios and Christina Martinez. I hope you can give us more insight and details about how and why they died and tell us more about the crimes from your perspective.

Thank you very much,

Briana Whitney

Answer #2 from Craig Jacobsen:

March 11, 2024:

Hello! I will give you several interviews about all aspects of my life, the countless reasons for countless human murders and I need to be financially compensated. Unfortunately, my criminal life began early with thefts of more than 100 million dollars (San Jose Mercury News, reporter Sandra Gonzales, year 1991, February/March, 10 million theft, my last name was JACOBSON). Next I dealt with cocaine smuggling by private plane from South America to the Florida Everglades. Then I became even more involved in the criminal arena of contract killings by influential organized crime figures with whom I had become friends in federal prison. Again, I made it into the “big time” by opening four spy shops that had ties to the Tokyo sarin gas attacks and the Oklahoma City bombings. My life story, my reasons for intentionally killing several people, and my reasons for wanting compensation are obvious. Surely I will be released no later than 2031 and I will be an incomparable monster! I’m also a paid FBI informant with a code name!

Saving tips for first-time parents

Saving tips for first-time parents

Becoming a parent is a life-changing moment. But parenthood often brings financial challenges. From baby supplies to healthcare, the costs of raising a child can quickly add up and drain your bank account.

First-time parents can feel overwhelmed by these expenses, but with careful planning and smart financial strategies, it is possible to minimize the financial burden. Here you will find savings tips to help you prepare.

The cost of raising a child

The cost of raising a child has steadily increased over the years. According to a Bankrate study, the average cost of raising a child from birth to age 17 in the United States is an estimated $313,939, which is about $18,000 per year. This number includes expenses such as housing, food, child care, education and health care.

Understanding these costs will help you budget more effectively and prepare for the future. The key is to create a financial plan that addresses immediate needs while anticipating future expenses.

“It’s important to start preparing early to minimize stress,” says Rachel Caballero, community development and public relations manager at TruWest Credit Union. “Re-evaluating your budget to identify spending gaps such as beauty treatments that can be done at home and unused services or subscriptions can lead to further savings to prepare for your new arrival.”

How to save money on baby basics

The birth of a newborn often comes with a long list of important purchases such as diapers, clothing, and baby equipment. These costs can quickly become overwhelming, but there are ways to save money without sacrificing quality.

Buy used items

Many baby products such as cribs, strollers and high chairs can be used gently at a fraction of the cost. Look for quality secondhand items through online marketplaces, thrift stores, or parent groups.

“Expectant parents spend way too much money on baby clothes,” says Christine Landis, founder of Peacock Parent Inc. “Babies barely wear clothes. They sleep 80 percent of the time, are swaddled and only need simple onesies and socks. Don’t buy shoes for babies. Sure it will look cute for a photo, but I would rather spend that $30 on a newborn care specialist or a sleep coach.”

Borrow from friends and family

If you have friends or family members with young children, ask if they have any baby gear that they no longer need. Many parents like to lend or give away items that their children have outgrown.

Consider generic brands

Diapers, wipes, and baby formula are available as generic or store-brand products, which are often just as good as name brands but cost significantly less.

Create a registry and limit yourself to the essentials

When making a baby list, focus on the items you really need. Avoid unnecessary gadgets and luxuries and prioritize the essentials.

Tips for saving money on childcare

For new parents, childcare is one of the biggest expenses. However, there are strategies that can help you save on child care costs.

Check out a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

Many employers offer a dependent care FSA, which allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars to cover eligible child care expenses. This can lead to significant tax savings.

Consider a nanny share

With a nanny share, two or more families share the cost of a single nanny. This arrangement can be less expensive than hiring a nanny just for your family and can provide more personalized care than traditional day care.

Take advantage of family support

If you have family nearby, ask if they can help with childcare, even if it’s only part-time. This can significantly reduce the cost of formal childcare.

“If you can’t afford full-time child care, get creative with how you and your family finance child care,” says Annie Cole, money coach and founder of Money Essentials for Women. “For example, family members could commit to certain evenings. Consider joining a parenting group and swapping childcare responsibilities. You and your partner could ask for a flexible schedule at work to free up days or part-days for child care. Also talk to your employer about possible childcare subsidies.”

How to save money on your child’s healthcare

Healthcare costs can add up quickly, especially in the first few years of a child’s life when regular doctor visits, vaccinations and unforeseen illnesses are commonplace. Here’s how you can reduce these expenses.

Choose the right health insurance

Consider your health insurance options carefully before your baby is born. Make sure your plan offers comprehensive coverage for pregnancy, delivery and child care. Compare deductibles, copayments and out-of-pocket maximums to ensure you choose the most cost-effective option.

Explore government food assistance programs

Many states offer programs such as the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), which help offset food costs for low- and middle-income families. Research programs in your area to see if you qualify.

Take advantage of free or low-cost healthcare services

Many local health departments and clinics offer free or low-cost services such as vaccinations and health exams for children. Use these services to save on routine care.

Use in-network providers

Choose healthcare providers within your insurance network to minimize out-of-pocket costs. Also consider looking for a pediatrician who offers flexible payment plans or accepts Medicaid if needed.

Create a Health Savings Account (HSA)

If you have high-deductible health insurance, you can open a health savings account. Contributions to an HSA are tax-free and can be used to cover qualified medical expenses for your child.

Tax measures that save new parents a lot of money

When you become a parent, you gain access to several tax breaks that can help you save money. Here are some tax measures you should consider.

Claim the tax credit for children

The child tax credit allows parents to claim up to $2,000 per eligible child on their federal tax return. Make sure you claim this credit to reduce your tax liability.

Take advantage of the earned income tax credit

If you have a lower or moderate income, you may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit, which can provide a significant tax refund.

Use a care loan

In addition to dependent care FSAs, you may also be eligible for a tax credit if you pay for child care benefits while you work. This credit can be up to 35% of your eligible child care costs, depending on your income.

“Your child care costs and possibly other child-related expenses could help you with your taxes,” says Dawn-Marie Joseph, founder of Estate Planning & Preservation. “The IRS website provides a wealth of information and is very user-friendly. Ask your tax advisor what credits you can receive.”

New parents should avoid money mistakes

As a new parent, managing finances can be difficult, and many make common mistakes that can harm their financial future. Here are some pitfalls to avoid:

Budgeting mistakes

Failure to create a budget can lead to overspending and financial stress, especially when you consider all the additional costs associated with having and raising a child. Be sure to keep track of your income and expenses to ensure you are living within your means and saving for future needs.

“You should track your spending in a budgeting application or at least a spreadsheet,” says Doug Carey, CFA, president and owner of WealthTrace. This way you can continue to budget effectively for your new child.”

No prioritization of retirement planning

While it’s natural that you want to focus on your child’s financial needs, it’s important that you don’t neglect your own retirement savings. Make sure you make regular contributions to your 401(k) or IRA account as you save for your child’s future.

“Even though your expenses will increase when you bring home your new baby, that doesn’t mean you should forget about contributing to your retirement and emergency funds,” says Joseph. “If you need to reduce these contributions for a short period of time, then do it, but get back on track as quickly as possible.”

Neglecting emergency savings measures

An emergency savings fund is important, especially if you have a family. Try to save at least three to six months of living expenses in an easily accessible account to cover unexpected costs such as medical emergencies or job loss.

“This is so important before the baby is born,” says parenting expert and child care author Tammy Gold. “Assess all current costs and forecast future expenses so you can see where you need to adjust your budget. Meet with a financial planner or even a bank representative to learn some savings strategies.”

Conclusion

Becoming a parent is a rewarding experience, but it also comes with significant financial obligations. By taking the time to plan ahead and make smart financial decisions, you can manage the costs of raising a child without overstretching your budget. With the right strategies, you can secure your family’s financial future.

The PlayStation Network is down and PS5 and PS4 players are offline

The PlayStation Network is down and PS5 and PS4 players are offline

Gamers hoping to spend an evening in front of their PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 may be out of luck as Sony’s gaming network suffers a massive outage on Monday evening.

The official PSN service status page confirms issues affecting everything: “Other, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, Web.” If it’s PlayStation, it doesn’t work. For my part, I received “PS5 error code WS-116522-7” when trying to launch a game, and Sony’s dedicated webpage told me that “the system software update failed.”

Screenshot: PSN service status

Players cannot log in, play multiplayer games, or play single-player games that require connecting and logging in online first (offline games seem to work fine).

There is no information about what is causing the issue, which reportedly started around 8:41 p.m. ET, and there is no estimated time when it might be resolved. This doesn’t appear to be related to the bug that was breaking graphics on the home screen of PS5 games – a bug that was only fixed a few hours ago – but as soon as we hear more information we’ll let you know.

Davon abgesehen, Heidekraut wirklich bombardiert.
