“Real Time” host Bill Maher suggested that the federal indictment against New York City Mayor Eric Adams for the alleged crimes is “a little harsh.”

“I’m so amazed – not that politicians can be bribed, but that they can be bribed so cheaply,” Maher reacted on Friday evening.

The Democratic mayor is blamed Obtaining illegal campaign contributions This emerges from a 57-page indictment that was unsealed on Thursday. As part of the conspiracy, he is alleged to have defrauded taxpayers of $10 million over the past decade, often taking free or heavily discounted vacations financed by his foreign patrons.

His guest, author and commentator Fran Lebowitz, mocked Adams for allegedly asking for business class airline tickets.

“Eric, you’re stealing! First class! Why business class?” Lebowitz joked.

“But considering the crime is so petty, don’t you think they’re being a little too harsh on him?” Maher asked.

“No, he’s the mayor of New York. “No,” Lebowitz replied.

“Yes I know. I’m not making excuses,” Maher said. “I have seen politicians do something worse. For example, they tried to overthrow the government of the United States.”

“I don’t know if there is that level of outrage from everyone who is so shocked and horrified and this is the worst thing that has ever happened. “It’s a little exaggerated,” Maher added.

Adams released a video statement in which he said all charges against him were “completely false and based on lies,” and he suggested that his criticism of the Biden administration’s disastrous border policies made him a target of retaliation.

“The federal government has taken no action as its broken immigration policies have overwhelmed our protection system without any remedy,” he said in a video statement. “I put the people of New York above party and politics.”

Investigators disputed claims that the case was a political retaliation during a news conference Thursday.

After an abrupt change in leadership, the Marlins continue their series against Jays

After an abrupt change in leadership, the Marlins continue their series against Jays

The visiting Miami Marlins will be without manager Skip Schumaker on Saturday afternoon as they continue their three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Schumaker will miss the final two games of the season due to health reasons, but late Friday several media outlets reported that Schumaker will not return to the club next season.

Schumaker was set to become a free agent after the season. According to ESPN, he told the team’s players after the game that it would be his last competition with the team.

The Marlins’ final game of the season under Schumaker was a stunning 15-5 victory over the Blue Jays, 74-86, in the opening game of a three-game series that will end the season for both teams.

Xavier Edwards had four hits, including a major league record three triples, and four RBIs for the Marlins (60-100).

“I was able to demonstrate my full speed,” Edwards said. “It was nice to open my legs a little.”

The Marlins arrived in Toronto around 5 a.m. Friday after earning an 8-6 victory in 13 innings over the host Minnesota Twins on Thursday. The Blue Jays had Thursday off, but the Marlins played with more energy.

“Very proud of our team,” Edwards said. “We came out to take care of business.”

He is the first player in Marlins team history with three triples in a game and the first in the majors since Yasiel Puig on July 25, 2014.

Jonah Bride hit two home runs and three RBIs for Miami, his first multi-homer game of his career.

It was a good Friday night for the former Blue Jays. Second baseman Otto Lopez, who was born in the Dominican Republic and spent part of his childhood in Montreal, went 2-for-3 with a walk. He played nine major league games for Toronto and was designated for assignment in February. Griffin Conine played in the minors with Toronto until moving to Miami four years ago. He was 2 for 5 with a solo home run and three RBIs on Friday.

Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had two hits and a sacrifice fly Friday night and needs one more hit to become the sixth player in franchise history to score 200 or more hits in a season. He is batting .326, second in the American League to Bobby Witt Jr.’s .332 for the Kansas City Royals.

Alejandro Kirk played 2 of 5 for Toronto, extending his winning streak to 18 games. He is batting .316 (24 for 76) with 13 RBIs during the streak.

Toronto starter Jose Berrios fumbled for the second straight game on Friday, picking up his 17th win of the season and 100th career win No. 100

.

Berrios allowed six runs and six hits in three innings on Friday.

“That was out of character for him,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. “But when you look back on his year, you see he was great. He was consistent.”

Right-hander Yariel Rodriguez (1-7, 4.41 ERA) is scheduled to start for Toronto on Saturday, his first career appearance against Miami.

The Marlins are expected to open with right-hander Xzavion Curry (1-2, 5.02), who has never played against Toronto.

Kamala Harris calls on Trump to “Punt on 2nd Debate” on a banner flying over the Alabama-Georgia game

Kamala Harris calls on Trump to “Punt on 2nd Debate” on a banner flying over the Alabama-Georgia game

Vice President Kamala Harris has a clear message for former President Donald Trump — and the more than 100,000 people at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday for the Georgia-Alabama game.

CNN reports that the Harris campaign will fly a small plane over Tuscaloosa during the game with a banner reading “Trump’s Punting on 2nd Debate.”

Trump will attend the Alabama-Georgia football game in Tuscaloosa along with Alabama Senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville.

Additionally, the campaign will air a national commercial during the game urging Trump to meet them on the debate stage for a rematch.

“Winners never back down from a challenge,” says the ad’s narrator. “Champions know that it can be done anytime, anywhere. But losers, they whine and complain and take their ball home.”

Earlier this month, Trump said it was “too late” to hold another debate after Vice President Kamala Harris said on the campaign trail that she had accepted an invitation to a face-off on CNN in October.

Harris and Trump took the stage on Sept. 10 for their only debate to date, an ABC News-hosted showdown that was originally agreed to by the Republican presidential nominee and Biden’s campaign.

In that debate, Trump delivered an uneven performance, and a snap CNN poll showed voters viewed Harris as the clear winner. Harris’ campaign team immediately challenged Trump to a second televised contest, and she has repeatedly said at rallies that she can’t wait to get back on stage.

Trump, who is in the home stretch of the presidential campaign against Harris, will take part in his third high-risk game in Alabama. Trump was at the national championship in Atlanta in 2017 when the Crimson Tide beat Georgia 26-23. In 2019, Trump came to Tuscaloosa for the Alabama-LSU game, which was won by LSU, the eventual national champion that year.

Andrew Garfield read the script for ‘We Live in Time’ amid a ‘mid-life crisis’

Andrew Garfield read the script for ‘We Live in Time’ amid a ‘mid-life crisis’

For Andrew Garfieldthe script for We live in time He couldn’t have come at a more perfect time in his life.

“When I read [the script]I was immersed in deep reflections on the meaning of life. As always, but perhaps even more pronounced in this moment,” Garfield, 41, said at a San Sebastian Film Festival press conference on Saturday, September 28. “I thought about life, death, love, meaning and time. … being 39 and 40 years old, kind of having a mid-life crisis, looking forward, looking back, looking exactly where I am and thinking, ‘What now?'”

“This script came in and it was like I wrote it from that place,” he continued. Garfield remembered having to ask himself, ‘How did I write this so well?'” I’m not a writer.'”

Garfield noted that he and playwright Nick Payne had similar thoughts: “There must be something to these things, something universal in this story.”

We live in time follows the love story of the couple Tobias (Garfield) and Almut (Florence Pugh), who are brought together by a chance encounter and learn to cherish moments while also dealing with parenthood and a medical diagnosis.

Garfield explained Saturday that he knew he was ready for the film after reading a scene that involved an ambulance, traffic and a gas station toilet. “It felt like the central action sequence, the Indiana Jones action sequence of this film,” he said.

During the press conference, Garfield was asked a question that portrayed him and Pugh’s characters as heroes. For his part, Garfield noted that he is “struggling.”[s] with that word in our culture right now.”

“Anyone in my life who has gone through something similar to what Tobias and Almut have gone through would reject the idea of being heroic,” he explained. “People in my family and close friends who have been through things of the most horrific nature, things that make you wonder if the universe is justified, those moments where you think, ‘How is everything here set up and how?’ should I continue?’ Those who find a way to move on would strongly reject the idea of being heroic. It’s a necessity.”

A historical epic and a candy-colored fantasy land face each other at the box office. Does this sound familiar? Last year’s “Barbenheimer” is this year’s “Glicked” – but the blockbuster showdown “Gladiator II vs. Wicked” is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this season’s upcoming films. “Wickdiator doesn’t really roll off the tongue, that’s true […]

He continued: “What I love about these two people is that they represent this strange, mysterious, undying, inexplicable desire to live in the face of the most terrible grief and loss.” And how we as humans have this power, this desire, this find a small flame of longing to live again and again. There are probably people in this room who are going through something not unlike these characters, who are facing death and still choosing to live. I find that remarkable.”

When Garfield first read the script, he stated that he did not view the film as a romantic drama. “I thought, ‘This is a great story about death,'” he explained. “It’s really fearless and funny and tries to explore some of the mystery of what it means to fall in love, get married and have a child with someone.”

Kentucky Wildcats Football: 5 Keys to Win Against Ole Miss Rebels

Kentucky Wildcats Football: 5 Keys to Win Against Ole Miss Rebels

The Kentucky Wildcats travel to Oxford, Mississippi for their first road game of the year against the Ole Miss Rebels.

The Grove should be electric when the Cats come to town and Ole Miss is a top-10 team. As always, Ole Miss boasts an explosive offense this year, although the defense is a bit shaky.

The crucial question is: What can Kentucky do to pull off the shocking surprise of the rebels at Oxford?

Let’s explore the five keys to the Cats’ victory.

1. Check the clock

In an explosive offense, it is important to control time by running the ball and using the game clock effectively. For the Cats to have a chance in this game, they need to limit Ole Miss to as few possessions as possible and win the possession battle. Ole Miss currently boasts the third-best offense in the country, averaging over 42 points and 478 yards per game. Kentucky must run the ball well and avoid turnovers to remain competitive.

2. Explosive games included

With over 100 plays for 10+ yards this season, the Rebels excel at making big plays. Under Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss is consistently among the top five offensive teams, especially when it comes to explosive plays. Kentucky effectively contained those plays in a three-point loss at Ole Miss in 2022. For the Cats to be successful this week, they need to keep everything in front of them and prevent bigger explosive plays.

Jordan Prather Imagn Images

3. Win the special teams battle

While I may not agree with it, Wilson Berry is once again the starting player. Despite being a solid player, Kentucky will need to turn the field effectively to beat Ole Miss. So far this season, Berry has averaged just 41 yards per punt, while backup Aidan Laros had a 58-yard punt last week and was an FCS All-American last season. I’m not sure why Laros doesn’t get more opportunities, but Kentucky will struggle if it continues to give Ole Miss favorable field position. Additionally, the Wildcats should utilize their top five kickers and get the points when they can.

4. Limit penalties

Kentucky has repeatedly hurt its penalties this season and ranks among the worst in the SEC. More than 80 yards per game are given up in penalties. In order to win, the Cats basically have to play good football and minimize mistakes. You must concentrate on watching the ball, avoiding grabs and maintaining a clean game.

5. Protect Brock Vandagriff

Vandagriff has shown promise, but his performance has been hindered by the offensive line’s inability to provide adequate protection. When he has more than 2.5 seconds to throw, he completes over 75% of his passes; if it is lower, this percentage falls below 50%. Ole Miss’ defense isn’t what it once was, but they can still boast of being the highest scoring defense in the country, allowing just 5.5 points per game and yet to give up a touchdown this season has allowed. Kentucky has no chance if it can’t score. If Vandagriff doesn’t have the time he needs, it could be a long game. After all, you can only let the ball move so much.

All in all, I expect Kentucky to play Ole Miss really well and keep this game very close. I think Vandagriff is having a bit of a coming out party and throwing for over 200 yards. This Kentucky defense will hold its own and hold Ole Miss to fewer than 28 points in another close loss to Lane Kiffin and the Rebels.

My Prediction: Ole Miss 27, Kentucky 24

Dave Roberts provides comprehensive update on Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman for NLDS

Dave Roberts provides comprehensive update on Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman for NLDS

According to manager Dave Roberts, it’s almost a guarantee that Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman will be in the NLDS’ starting lineup next Saturday.

The first baseman suffered an ankle injury in Thursday night’s series finale with the San Diego Padres. Although the Dodgers won the National League West division in the series finale against their rivals, injuries continued to abound in the clubhouse.

Freeman’s alarming right ankle injury silenced the home crowd at Dodger Stadium. While initially trying to avoid a tag on a play, the first baseman twisted his ankle. His departure was deafening.

Kiké Hernández replaced Freeman to start the eighth inning. After the game, while champagne showers ensued in the clubhouse, Freeman wore a walking boot and used crutches.

The good news is that the X-rays Freeman took were negative. It’s a positive update in what could be another disastrous situation for the Dodgers.

“It’s swollen,” Freeman told MLB.com’s Juan Toribio. “But they are pretty optimistic that I can make it to the playoffs by Saturday. That’s what I’m betting on. I’ve never twisted an ankle so I don’t know. It’s pretty big right now.”

The first baseman will not travel with the team to Colorado. As the Dodgers play their final games of the season, Freeman will do everything he can to make a full recovery.

The Dodgers are optimistic that Freeman will return to the team in full form when the playoffs begin. However, the team was previously optimistic that other key starters would return from injury and this was never implemented.

For example, Dodgers star Tyler Glasnow seemed to be a guarantee of returning to the team. Placing him on the injured list for the second time this season seemed to be a precautionary measure. Likewise, it appears to be a precautionary measure that the Dodgers are keeping Freeman out for the final series of the season.

Fans should hope for the best when it comes to Freeman. Glasnow’s injury situation only got worse. His elbow tendonitis developed into an elbow sprain at the end of the season.

Hopefully Freeman’s twisted ankle doesn’t turn into something serious.

Still, the Dodgers won the division despite the unprecedented number of injuries. It was the 11th division title in the last 12 years, but that meant even more.

The Dodgers won the division as several starters struggled with injuries. The question remains: Can the Dodgers continue their tough fight for the World Series?

Hideo Kojima is ready for a major transmedia push

Hideo Kojima is ready for a major transmedia push

Gamers have known Hideo Kojima for years as the driving creative force behind Konami Metal gears games and more recently Death Stranding. He’s built up a lot of goodwill and his profile has only grown, and now it seems like he’s willing to cash in on everything so Kojima Productions has free rein to do whatever it wants and go beyond the games.

In a recent Variety interview, Kojima spoke about his future career plans and revealed some interesting details. What he wants to achieve consists of three phases: Phase one was to establish something Death Stranding as a large estate, whatever happened. The 2019 game was a critical and commercial success and a sequel is currently in production, scheduled for 2025. He is currently in phase two, where he is expanding his properties “in all possible directions,” namely other media such as anime and films. We already know Death Stranding has a film in the works at A24, but that’s not the only thing in the works: “Several” adaptation projects for the game are in the works, he said. The film is the focus right now because he has another story in his head that he naturally wasn’t aware of.

What Kojima did betrayed about the Death Stranding film is that he won’t be directing it, and neither will Jordan Peele, his collaborator on the star-studded, mysterious Xbox project O.D. Peele is currently busy doing his own thing, but Kojima noted that he has several other Hollywood friends who could be up to the task: Guillermo del Toro, Nicolas Winding Refn and George Miller were all mentioned by name, and he recounted Variety that they “always talk about it.” do something together.” (del Toro and Refn appeared in the first game, while Miller’s likeness is used for a character in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.)

And phase three? Kojima wants to work with “talented people from around the world” to create something completely new and digitally focused. “It could be a movie, a game, or something completely different,” he told Variety. He thinks about it Death film and its upcoming spy game Physint as a gateway to what the third part of his master plan will look like. He has already said that he is making contacts in the film and non-game industries to make this a reality, which may also include another film adaptation. Either way, he says the resources for this endeavor will be digital and could, in theory, be used for any path he chooses.

Honestly, the only thing stopping him is time. Between the three games, the Death Stranding For films and other projects, the 61-year-old designer said he just wants to be able to “do everything I want to do in the rest of my life without wasting time.” And more than that, he feels like he owes it in a way to the people who reached out to him to tell him how much his work resonated with them. Those moments “make me want to spend the rest of my life doing things for people like that,” he said. “I’m not a politician or someone who can change things, but I want to support people with my work. Anything I can do for these people, I want to do.”
