Longboat Key’s reopening delayed due to discovery of gas leaks

Longboat Key Fire Chief Paul Dezzi said Saturday afternoon that plans to gradually reopen the island were stalled by the discovery of gas leaks.

2024 MLB Playoffs schedule: Postseason dates, game times, matchups, teams as bracket is finalized

2024 MLB Playoffs schedule: Postseason dates, game times, matchups, teams as bracket is finalized

Major League Baseball’s 2024 regular season will conclude in the next 36 hours (the Braves and Mets are currently scheduled to play a potentially pivotal doubleheader on Monday). The playoff picture is mostly formed as 10 of the 12 teams in the postseason field have secured their spots. The Braves, Mets and Diamondbacks will clinch two of the final three spots and then the 2024 MLB postseason begins.

Fittingly, the baseball playoffs begin on October 1st this year. The four best-of-three Wild Card Series take place this week, and the League Division Series quartet begins on Saturday, October 5th. We know the four teams that will host the Wild Card Series: the Astros, Orioles, Brewers and Padres. And we know the four teams that bowed out for the LDS round: the Yankees, Guardians, Dodgers and Phillies. However, none of the Wild Card Series matchups have been decided yet and we will at least know the full AL seeds by Sunday night.

As a reminder, the 12-team playoff round is divided into four rounds. Eight teams will play in the best-of-three wild card series, with the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in each league hosting the No. 6 and No. 5 teams. The numbers 1 and 2 in each league will receive byes into the League Division Series, which begins on Saturday, October 5th.

The 2024 World Series begins on either Friday, October 25th or Tuesday, October 22nd. The start date will be moved up if both the ALCS and NLCS finish in five games or fewer.

Got it? Good. Below is the complete schedule for the 2024 postseason. MLB should announce the game times for the Wild Card Series either Sunday night or Monday.

Willie Anderson was a four-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro selection while playing twelve seasons as an offensive lineman for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Anderson has made it clear that he believes he belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and why he believes there is a “bias” against right tackles.

Earlier this week, he explained to TMZ Sports why he believes protecting the blind side isn’t the only thing that’s important in football and why this might be the right time for him to join Canton.

“Look at the right tackle guys we faced on the line of scrimmage. I think the guys I faced and the work I did… I think there’s only one or two right tackles in the Hall of Fame.” “If it’s not one or two, it’s under five Anderson said.

“I think it’s been very misrepresented because people have a misperception of it because scouts have said, ‘Left tackle, left tackle,’ but when you play football you realize both tackles are important.”…. I still think there is a bias towards right tackles.”

Anderson theorized in an interview on “Up & Adams” in July that the movie “The Blind Side” would keep him out of the Hall of Fame.

He told TMZ Sports he only used it as an example because the game featured left tackles at the time.

Is this small-town theater in Maine really the best in the state?

Is this small-town theater in Maine really the best in the state?

The last few years have been really tough for the cinema industry. Not just because of the pandemic. Theaters were struggling before the first positive cases reached the United States.

For decades, the prices for cinema tickets and cinema concessions had risen steadily. But despite the ever-increasing costs, nothing new was offered to moviegoers. A ticket gave them a cramped seat in a darkened room that often smelled of stale popcorn and the chance to see the film.

But a few years before the pandemic hit the United States, movie theaters underwent a major shift. They began changing their seating from simple seats to seats that resembled a recliner. Some of them even have LARGE, super comfortable reclining style seats built in. Some theaters not only changed their seating, but also expanded their food offerings.

Most, if not all, theaters in Maine have adopted these changes.

But would you believe that a theater in Maine, located in a very small town, has offered this experience for the last 15 years?

The Magic Lantern Theater on Depot Street in Bridgton offers premiere performances and has an attached pub. As far as we can tell, it was one of the first places in Maine (if not the first) where you could get a meal and an adult beverage with your movie.

The theater, which opened in its current building in 2008, is now owned by the Maine 4-H Foundation. For this reason, it should come as no surprise that the theater does a lot for the western Maine community. They offer free family movies and support local nonprofits.

Ticket prices are on par with most other theaters, and Wed’s Pub offers typical bar fare like chicken fingers, fries, and burgers.

Did she just catch her landlord lying about not finding any mold?

Did she just catch her landlord lying about not finding any mold?

A tenant went viral after she caught her boss allegedly lying about a suspicious growth in her closet.

Sheridan Ellis (@sheridanellis) recently posted a series of videos to her TikTok account, where she has almost 27,000 followers. In the first videos, she showed viewers the corresponding form and thought about what they should do. She then exposed her landlord for planning to lie to her about his findings.

As of Sunday morning, her most-viewed video detailing her plight had more than 2.7 million views.

Tenant finds worker lying

In a video, Ellis said they initially told her they would send a professional to test the “growth.” However, she wasn’t home when they arrived, so she thought about how she could follow their conversation from a distance.

“I was at work watching and recording with my dog camera as they made a plan of what to tell me so they wouldn’t lose their job,” she explained. After collecting this evidence, she said she went to Home Depot to purchase her own mold testing kits. In her opinion, this confirmed that it was indeed mold in her closet.

“I know I’m not a mold expert, but this doesn’t look like Pepper Jack or Gouda to me,” she said of her findings.

To make matters worse, Ellis said another tenant had a similar problem and was told the mold was just dust. “She lost $7,000 worth of things,” Ellis explained.

The tenant said that despite the evidence she collected (more on that below), her apartment still denied that she had mold. But not only did Ellis have video evidence of this, she also said she developed a rash that covered her neck and shoulders.

“I recorded everything. I have a whole album of things,” Ellis said. She encouraged viewers not to move into her apartment complex, the Ross + Peak Apartment in Dallas, Texas.

While I was at work I checked my camera and watched them walk around – not testing anything – and made a plan on what to tell me 🙃 #cushmanandwakefield #cushmanwakefield #dallas #rosspeak #mold #apartment #leasing #CAMPfacility #CAMP ♬ Original sound – Sheridan Ellis

Wait, what did the tenant record?

In Ellis’ evidence video, which she said she shot with her dog camera, she caught three people in her apartment discussing what to tell her about the mold.

“I asked my apartment complex to test the mold in my HVAC cabinet that resulted from a leak that they never fixed,” she wrote in the text overlay. “I was told they didn’t find anything, so I checked my camera…”

In the recorded video, a woman who was not named appeared to suggest telling her the truth. But then another worker intervened.

“I wouldn’t even do that [do] all of that,” said the man. “I would just say… ‘The growth, the organic growth that we found, we cut out and removed.'”

He continued, “You guys are going to clean their air ducts or whatever.” At one point the man almost suggested calling the thing they found in the closet “mold,” but then he stumbled over his words and said, “Yes.” I preferred to call it “organic growth” because “none of us are scientists.”

In fact, he doubled down on this again towards the end of the video. He said telling the tenant, “Less is more.” The housing workers nodded in agreement.

In a follow-up video, Ellis showed viewers the shape in question. She considered why her apartment would lie to her about the mold and confirmed that workers had told her they found “organic growth” (instead of mold) in her closet. However, she said there was “so much mold and organic growth” that workers had to cut through an adjacent wall.

She also said the mold was allegedly located in a locked HVAC closet that only housing workers with a special key had access to.

“So, yeah, what would you do – just hypothetically?” she jokingly asked the audience.

What happens if there is mold in your home?

According to a Texas-based legal blog, tenants can receive compensation for damage caused to their home by mold. But the mold shouldn’t have gotten that far, the blog said. Because “the law states that landlords in Texas are required to eliminate conditions that “substantially impair the health and physical safety of a regular tenant.”

However, the law in question is somewhat questionable as to when the complex must remove the mold. It noted that landlords have a “reasonable” amount of time to fix the problem, although it appears Ellis’ videos documenting her predicament were taken over a long period of time. However, it generally said that mold problems should be addressed no later than seven days after a tenant’s first complaint.

Tenants like Ellis whose apartment complexes refuse to help have certain rights, according to the blog. For example, it was suggested that someone like Ellis should either terminate her lease, file a lawsuit, or ask a third party to fix the mold problem and then “deduct the cost of the repairs from your rent.” It also states that anyone experiencing health problems due to the mold should contact a personal injury attorney immediately.

Others weigh in

And based on the evidence Ellis had, viewers suggested she wait to pay rent until the issue was sorted out. Most viewers said she should let the matter be resolved in court.

“Please do not pay the rent directly to them, but go to your court and file a tenant’s claim. Your rent will be held in escrow directly with the court until the issue is resolved,” one woman suggested.

“This lawsuit is going to be epic,” said another.

“Sue them,” a third viewer echoed.

Other viewers noted that the management of her apartment also lied to her.

“Our apartment flooded last year due to the apartment’s negligence and I had to threaten lawyers and do a bad Google review to get out of our lease,” one person shared.

“This happened in my apartment where there was mold and I got so sick that I was ignited so violently with the gas,” another added.

The Daily Dot reached out to Ellis for TikTok comment. We contacted Ross + Peak Apartments via the online messaging portal.

What is the best playoff lineup the Philadelphia Phillies can field in the NLDS?

What is the best playoff lineup the Philadelphia Phillies can field in the NLDS?

The Philadelphia Phillies enter the 2024 playoffs with one of the deeper lineups of any postseason team.

This has been a key part of their success this season, and they enter Saturday’s game with a combined OPS of .752, ranking fourth in the MLB.

However, the way manager Rob Thomson has deployed the lineup may not be the optimal design.

With every run counting even more in October, how should the Phillies put together their lineup for postseason play?

Kyle Schwarber’s leadership is the best way to maximize his abilities.

He leads the team with a walk rate of 15.2 percent, which also ranks him third in the MLB.

This is the guy you want at the top of your lineup; The guy who can work counts, gets on base more often than most while also hitting for an immense amount of power.

Schwarber set the major league record for leadoff home runs this season and has 38 total with two games left to play.

Schwarber at the top of the lineup creates good conditions for the rest of the strong offense to do more damage.

With an optimal lineup setup, your best all-around hitter will bat second, behind the player who gets on base most often.

Bryce Harper is undoubtedly Philadelphia’s best all-around hitter.

Harper enters Saturday’s game with a .286/.374/.527 line on the year with 72 extra-base hits, 87 RBI and an OPS+ of 150 and will once again be ranked in the top 10 for National MVP voting League, an award to be won he has won twice so far.

Harper brings power and contact to the lineup and would see more plate appearances one spot higher in the lineup than he did in the regular season.

If you’re still with me, perfect.

Alec Bohm was the club’s leading contact and gap-to-gap hitter this season with 44 doubles and two triples.

He has only had 85 strikeouts, for a strikeout rate of 14.2 percent, a career high and well below league average.

Bohm batting behind Schwarber and Harper, assuming Harper doesn’t rush Schwarber, gives the young third baseman the opportunity to drive in multiple runners, something he has surpassed with 95 RBI this year.

Bohm has developed into the perfect hitter needed to play third in a lineup, now he just needs to be put there.

Don’t worry, Trea Turner stans, he’s coming.

Nick Castellanos is the best remaining power hitter, with Schwarber and Harper already firmly entrenched in the first and second spots.

He ranks third on the Phillies in ISO with .174 and third in home runs with 23.

Even in baseball’s new age of analysis and statistical evidence for the perfect lineup construction, the fourth spot still requires power, and Castellanos is the best remaining option in that regard.

After finishing fourth in the lineup, you start over and do it again.

The remaining player with the best walk rate is second baseman Bryson Stott at 9.4 percent.

While he does a good job of getting on base, he is another member of Philadelphia’s roster with fewer than 100 strikeouts this year, coming in at 92.

Stott is one of the better players in the sport at putting the bat on the ball, and it’s very rare for the left-hander to swing and miss.

Stott gets on base with a walk or at least puts the ball in play, setting up the rest of the lineup well.

With a lineup so deep that Trea Turner is ranked sixth should Being the norm is a fantastic luxury.

Batting Turner second in the lineup this season has done more harm than good to the team, and his skill set is much better suited to the sixth spot in the lineup.

Turner is fast, but in his 30s his speed begins to decline.

He still put together a solid season with a .294/.337/.465 line, 45 extra-base hits, 60 RBI and a 123 OPS+.

Batting Turner sixth would go a long way toward giving this team more wins.

One of the few players in the everyday lineup who hit at his optimal position in the lineup, the best catcher in baseball, JT Realmuto.

In an optimal setup, seventh place works just like third, but slightly worse.

Realmuto has less gap-to-gap ability than Bohm, making him the perfect choice for the shot here.

Realmuto, who enters Saturday’s game with 18 doubles and a triple in just 98 games, would be much closer to 30 doubles if he hadn’t done that Mid-season knee surgery.

“Wait, left field?” Yes.

An every-day lineup is a lineup that features right-handed pitchers every day.

As much as Thomson wants to force Austin Hays into an everyday role, he’s not cut out for it.

Brandon Marsh, on the other hand, does.

Marsh enters Saturday’s game with a season line of .252/.333/.425 with 16 home runs, 60 RBI and an OPS+ of 111.

He sacrificed batting average for more power, but in 2024 batting average no longer matters.

He ranks fourth on the team in ISO at .172, just behind Castellanos, making him the perfect second cleanup hitter.

Here’s the thing: Johan Rojas is by far the worst hitter on the team.

But what Rojas brings is elite speed and one of the best center field gloves in all of baseball.

These two things more than make up for what he lacks on the plate and make every production he makes icing on the cake.

His speed allows him to hit weak groundballs for infield hits more than most, putting him in the “second leadoff hitter” class.

The Phillies were one of the best teams in baseball this year, but if they had constructed their roster better, 100 wins would have been an easy feat.

Doing this in the playoffs would significantly increase their chances of making the World Series.

England vs Australia: Tourists beat rain to win fifth ODI and win series 3-2

England vs Australia: Tourists beat rain to win fifth ODI and win series 3-2

England’s bid to win the comeback series against Australia failed as the tourists braved the rain in Bristol to win the crucial fifth one-day international.

The hosts, who overcame a 2-0 deficit to level the series, scored 309 points after being put in the game, with Ben Duckett scoring 107 – his second ODI century – and captain Harry Brook scoring 72.

But that was a disappointing result given a brilliant start that took England to 202-2 in 25 overs.

Brooks’ dismissal began a familiar collapse, as eight wickets fell for 107 runs – all of them spinning – and his side was dismissed in the last over.

Australia were similarly aggressive early in their chase, with openers Travis Head and Matt Short hitting 78 in the first seven overs.

Head was caught at extra cover for 31 and Short fell behind on 58, but their attack had put Australia well ahead with the rain clouds gathering.

The game threatened to end in farce as England tried to slow down the action and ensure that the 20 overs required to compete were not bowled in time.

That would have meant no result and a drawn series, but after Steve Smith had scored 36 to keep Australia short of the Duckworth-Lewis Stern target, rain came four balls into the 21st over.

At this point Australia were 165-2, 49 runs above par, and the players did not return – the tourists won the series 3-2.

England’s attention now turns to a three-match Test series in Pakistan, with seven of those teams eliminated on Tuesday.

The series premiere begins on Monday, October 7th in Multan.

Maya Rudolph returns as “fun aunt” Kamala Harris with Jim Gaffigan as Tim Walz

Maya Rudolph returns as “fun aunt” Kamala Harris with Jim Gaffigan as Tim Walz

Saturday Night Live kicked off the premiere of its 50th anniversary season with a mix of political satire and star power, thanks to host Jean Smart and musical guest Jelly Roll.

The fans were eagerly waiting to see how SNL would address the upheaval among Democrats following President Biden’s July 21 exit from the 2024 presidential race. The answer was blunt: Maya Rudolph’s anticipated return as Vice President Kamala Harris and Jim Gaffigan’s debut as Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, brought a perfect dose of Midwestern witty humor.

While the episode didn’t focus on that too much SNLThere were nods and nods during the monologue for the 50th anniversary Weekend updatewhich also covered the biggest news of the summer – from the famous hippopotamus Moo Deng and New York Mayor Eric Adams’ legal drama to the Harris-Trump debate and the Diddy criminal case.

But no need to worry, SNL Fans! You can expect a more extensive celebration with a three-hour primetime special set on February 15, while a biopic of the show starring Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase and Dylan O’Brien as Dan Aykroyd hits theaters this weekend.

In the meantime, here’s a recap of last night’s episode.

The 13-minute cold open introduced a new group of political figures: Maya Rudolph reprized her role as Harris, Jim Gaffigan debuted as Walz, Dana Carvey returned as Biden and Andy Samberg played second gentleman Doug Emhoff. Meanwhile, actors James Austin Johnson and Bowen Yang portrayed Donald Trump and JD Vance, respectively.

Andrew Dismukes, as ABC News anchor David Muir, kicked things off by watching each candidate’s rallies.

“Well, your funny aunt has returned,” Rudolph’s Harris announced at the beginning. “I’m so happy to be campaigning in every swing state I’m in, which I’ll just call Wisconsin-Pennsylv-Georgia because I’ll protect your Va-Georgia.”

She added: “This election is about moving forward. You see, Donald Trump is stuck in the past, but it’s like me saying to my husband Doug when he left his phone at Chili’s, ‘We’re not going back!'”

Leaning into his “Big Dad Energy,” Gaffigan’s Walz quipped, “I haven’t been this excited since I got a 10% discount on a leaf blower from Menards.”

Rudolph always made people laugh: “My campaign is like the song ‘Espresso’ by Sabrina Carpenter,” she joked. “The lyrics are vague, but the mood is striking.”

Samberg’s Emhoff delivered a memorable line aimed at Republicans who have questioned his masculinity: “If supporting my wife means being a little spoon, then you can kiss my little butt.”

Johnson’s Trump, meanwhile, lamented Biden’s absence and said: “Oh, Joe, we miss Joe Biden.” What we wouldn’t give if he was standing next to me and was old. We had it in the bag, but then they made a change.”

Yang’s Vance chimed in with jokes about Trump’s relationship with his children: “Trump told me, ‘JD, you’re like a son to me because I don’t like you, but I’m sticking with you.’

The skit ended with Carvey’s Biden mocking his lame-duck presidency, saying, “A lot of people forget that I’m president, myself included.”

On Weekend update At the desk, Colin Jost and Michael Che jumped straight into the 2024 presidential election and the indictment of Adams.

Jost highlighted Trump’s recent rally, where the former president insulted Harris and quipped, “I can’t believe Trump admitted he lost a debate to a mentally disabled person.”

The segment also featured Devon Walker as Adams, who defended himself against accusations of accepting lavish gifts by saying, “New York City needs me in first class.”

Bowen Yang starred as Moo Deng, a viral baby pygmy hippo from Thailand who laments the pressures of newfound fame. Jost compared Moo Deng’s complaints to those of singer Chappell Roan, with Yang’s hippopotamus character cheekily replying: “I’m 10 weeks old, Colin. Of course I know Chappell Roan.”

Che later mentioned rapper Diddy’s charges of sex trafficking and extortion. Diddy’s lawyer, Che, said he wasn’t sure he could keep his client away from the trial if his case went to trial.

“Because you can’t stop a man from wearing so much baby oil,” Che joked. Jost then addressed how Diddy’s lawyer tried to distance his client from R. Kelly, who was convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking in 2021, adding: “First of all, if you settle your client first, it’s never a good sign. “ is R. Kelly. I have to agree, it’s true: Diddy has nothing to do with R. Kelly at all. I mean, R. Kelly’s songs are good.”

“Ghost Halloween”

A commercial highlights Spirit Halloween’s talent for taking over empty storefronts in low-income communities.

“100,000 Dollar Pyramid”

Walker shined as Michael Strahan, hosting a parody $100,000 pyramidwith Kenan Thompson’s Mark Robinson taking the spotlight.

“I love Lucy”

Smart plays a dramatic actress who almost played the lead role I love Lucywhich hilariously shows how the 1950s sitcom would have faltered without Lucille Ball’s comedic touch.

“Talk Talk”

Yang’s Charli XCX hosts a bizarre, hilarious boiler room show with topical humor and Sarah Sherman as Troye Sivan.

Musical guest Jelly Roll performed “Liar” and “Winning Streak” from his upcoming 10th studio album. Beautifully broken. He was introduced by Smart and her Hacks Co-star Hannah Einbinder.

Packers vs. Vikings live updates: NFL scores, game stats, news, highlights, where to watch the week 4 game

We’re on the road from Lambeau Field battling for first place in the NFC North between the 3-0 Minnesota Vikings and the 2-1 Green Bay Packers.

The Vikings are on one after consecutive wins against the 2023 NFC champion San Francisco 49ers (23-17 in Week 2) and the 2023 AFC South champion Houston Texans (34-7 in Week 3). Soaring. Quarterback Sam Darnold had the best game of his career against Houston, throwing a total of four touchdown passes and no interceptions in the win. He will be tested early and often on the road against a Packers defense that leads the NFL with nine takeaways, including seven interceptions, through the first three weeks of the season. New defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has the Packers playing much more aggressive football than his predecessor Joe Barry: The Packers had seven interceptions in all of 2023, a total they have already achieved, and last season only 18 takeaways, a number from Green Bay already halfway there.

Minnesota also boasts the NFL’s best pass rush under defensive coordinator Brian Flores: They lead the NFL with 16 sacks and 54 quarterback pressures in Week 4. That will be a tall order for Jordan Love, the face-of-the-franchise quarterback or backup Malik Willis, who he will face on Sunday. Love’s return from his MCL sprain is in doubt after he took limited part in training all week. When he can’t go, Willis has played admirably in his absence: His 9.8 yards per pass attempt and 9.5 yards per carry both lead the NFL since Week 2 among players who have at least 12 attempts for each category. Willis is just the fourth player in the last 50 years to lead the league in both categories in a two-week span, joining Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts in 2022, Titans quarterback Steve McNair in 1997 and Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham in Year 1987.

Who will emerge victorious in this battle for the early pole position in the NFC North? Stay tuned to this live blog for important updates and analysis.
