Major League Baseball’s postseason begins Tuesday with the four best-of-three Wild Card Series. One of the National League matchups will pit the No. 3 Milwaukee Brewers, the NL Central champions, against the No. 6 New York Mets at American Family Field in Milwaukee.

The winner of the Brewers-Mets series will advance to the NL Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The said NLDS is a best-of-five.

Here is the Wild Card Series schedule:

Game 2

Wed, Oct 2nd

ESPN/fubo (try for free)

Game 3 (if necessary)

Thu., Oct. 3

8:38 p.m. ET

ESPN2/fubo (try for free)

Where to see

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 1 | Time: 5:30 p.m. ET
Location: American Family Field (Milwaukee)
Channel: ESPN| Electricity: fubo
Likely throwers: RHP Freddy Peralta (11-9, 3.68 ERA) vs. RHP Luis Severino (11-7, 3.91 ERA)
Opportunities: MIL-135 | NYM +115; over/under: 7.5

In Game 1, the Brewers turn to Freddy Peralta, their chief of staff at innings pitching. The Mets will counter with Luis Severino. It remains to be seen who the Brewers (and the Mets, for that matter) produce from there.

Here’s what you should know about the Mets and Brewers heading into the Wild Card Series.

Mets: The Mets are making their second postseason appearance in the last three years. New York’s chances of reaching October seemed limited after a brutal May in which they lost 19-9. The Mets then bounced back and recorded their 40th second-half victory on Monday, winning the first game of a doubleheader against the Braves and clinching their spot in the playoffs.

As an additional subplot to this series, the Mets are led by former Brewers manager David Stearns. Stearns, who led the Brewers from 2015-22, took a step back for the 2023 season before leaving the organization to join the Mets.

Brewer: The Brewers are making their sixth postseason appearance in the last seven years. Unfortunately, they were eliminated in the wildcard round on three of those trips. Milwaukee will look to change its fortunes in October after the team finally took control of the Central in a season at the end of April.

2024 VP debate start time, live stream and TV channel

Just over a month before the 2024 US presidential election, the vice presidential debate marks the first showdown between Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Donald Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance.

As both campaigns intensify, this could be their only debate before voters go to the polls.

The outcome could significantly sway undecided voters and highlight key differences between the candidates’ programs and their visions for the country’s future.

Vance is expected to focus on the southern border and Walz is likely to focus on abortion access and other reproductive rights.

Jennifer Garner and Channing Tatum make cameos from Deadpool & Wolverine.

Jennifer Garner and Channing Tatum make cameos from Deadpool & Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine are more popular than Jesus – at least at the box office Deadpool and Wolverine broke the 2004 box office record The Passion of Christ being the highest grossing R-rated film of all time.

Now the film is officially available as a digital release, in case you’re one of the few film fans who haven’t yet seen the raunchy action in theaters – or want to relive the madness.

The digital premiere comes ahead of the just-announced 4K, Blu-ray and DVD release on October 22nd.

The Daily Beast’s Obsessed includes an exclusive clip of one of the bonus features, an interview with the superheroes who make surprise appearances in the film to talk about returning to their characters – and their wardrobes – all these years after their first appearances. It is part of a set of features called Loose Ends: The Legacy Heroesin which Reynolds, director Shawn Levy and the cast and crew go through some of those cameos and the characters who finally get the ending they deserve. They cover the intense choreographed sequences, updated costumes and the assembly of the legendary team.

Jennifer Garner talks about returning to the character Elektra nearly two decades after the first film… and the need to change the costume to reflect the times gone by.

“It’s a different costume. A lot less skin,” Garner says with a laugh in the clip. “Elektra always showed a lot more midriff, which we don’t need now. That’s not necessary. Elektra had three children.”

She talks about how the costume was adapted to reflect the different ways she moves now as an action star: “I can move and it still looks like Elektra, which I love.” And the big difference is that I don’t wear heels. I said I don’t know if my 55 year old feet can fight in high heels all day. I don’t know if I can do it. So I have a bit of a wedge.”

Wesley Snipes, who revived the character of Blade in Deadpool and WolverineShe also has a sense of humor about the way the costume has changed. “It’s less shiny. “It’s less glittery,” he says. “I don’t have the same drip as the others. When you put it on, you begin to see where your body has changed or where you need to improve or build. Thank God for muscle suits.”

And Channing Tatum, who steals scenes by returning as Gambit in the film, noted how the costume team took direct inspiration from the original comics to perfect his look: “Down to the pattern on the chest plate and headpiece. It is extraordinary what they have achieved. I still can’t believe it.”

Adams’ lawyers accuse prosecutors of leaking information

Adams’ lawyers accuse prosecutors of leaking information

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and his lawyers are accusing the government of prematurely leaking grand jury materials related to his federal indictment on corruption charges to the New York Times, CNN and other media outlets, according to a filing Tuesday.

“The prejudice from these leaks was severe. “A cascade of critical articles based on one-sided, misleading government information undermined public support for the mayor long before he was ever charged with a crime and could defend himself in court,” Adams’ lawyers wrote.

His legal team claims that classified information, including subpoenas, FBI searches and seizures related to Adams’ criminal complaints, was found in published articles dating back to 2023.

They cite the Times’ complicated coverage of sealed warrants; a description of the items seized by Brianna Suggs, an Adams 2021 campaign staffer; and knowledge of witness statements against the mayor as grounds for termination.

“The government’s leaks intentionally created a façade of guilt, resulting in intense, negative scrutiny of Mayor Adams and his administration,” the filing says. “And by releasing information to the press, the government violated the mayor’s right to a flawless grand jury process and impaired his ability to receive a fair trial from an impartial jury.”

Adams’ attorney reportedly alerted the government to the revelations on June 7 and August 13, to no avail. He claimed they had received no response to the letters they submitted, adding they had been “completely ignored”.

“The government completely ignored both letters. In a telephone call with the Attorney General’s Office on August 20, 2024, Mayor Adams’ attorney again raised the issue of the grand jury leaks, noting that the government had still not responded to the letters and requests for an investigation. “The government once again summarily dismissed the concerns,” the lawyers wrote.

They later added: “The reality is that the ultimate contours of the grand jury’s indictment, as well as the sources from which the grand jury obtained evidence, were available to the public and prospective jurors long before the indictment itself and long before that.” Mayor Adams had the opportunity to defend himself in court.”

That filing came just a day after his lawyers asked a federal judge to drop “extraordinarily vague” bribery charges against him. In the wake of the allegations, several leaders called on Adams to resign, although he showed no signs of resigning.

Action could be taken against Borussia Dortmund because of the “UEFA Mafia” banner displayed in the Champions League

Action could be taken against Borussia Dortmund because of the “UEFA Mafia” banner displayed in the Champions League

Borussia Dortmund is likely to face sanctions after displaying a banner reading “UEFA Mafia” before their Champions League game against Celtic on Tuesday.

The nine individual letters of the message were held up by fans on the “yellow wall” in the Westfalenstadion, along with a second banner that read, “You don’t care about sport – all you care about is money.”

Dortmund fans displayed a third banner promoting the website “Reclaim the Game,” a blog that details fans’ criticism of the new Champions League reform.

As per UEFA protocol, the governing body will wait for match reports before considering any action.

UEFA has already sanctioned clubs for using the word “mafia” as it is seen as a “provocative and offensive message”.

In March 2022, Marseille was fined €20,000 for displaying a “UEFA Mafia” banner during the Europa Conference League play-off match against Qarabag, for which the club later apologized. The banner was believed to convey “provocative messages of a political and offensive nature.”

Dortmund fans have a history of anti-UEFA protests. During the Champions League group stage match against Newcastle United last season, fans threw counterfeit money, gold bars and tennis balls onto the pitch and displayed several banners that appeared to criticize European football’s governing body.

During the Newcastle game, two of the banners contained the same message as against Celtic on Tuesday. Drawings apparently depicting FIFA President Gianni Infantino, PSG President Nasser Al Khelaifi and former Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli were also captured.

Dortmund were fined €7,375 by UEFA for throwing objects onto the pitch, but no action was taken about the banners.

A section of the Reclaim the Game blog states: “The magic of European competitions is being increasingly devalued by UEFA and the European Club Association (ECA). With the reform of the UEFA club competitions next season, this magic is in danger of being completely lost.

“The growing number of games in the competitions will push players and fans to their limits. The significantly increased revenue generated by the reforms also has the potential to destroy domestic competitions and pave the way for an upcoming European Super League.”

The new Champions League format was introduced this season and has expanded the competition from 32 to 36 teams. The group stage has been replaced by a ‘league stage’ and teams will now play eight games instead of six.

The format was introduced by UEFA in the hope that it will lead to more competition from the outset, with bigger games at the start of the tournament, as the top teams compete earlier and are not largely separated until the knockout stages.

Dortmund beat Celtic 7-1 on Tuesday night, with Karim Adeyemi scoring a hat-trick in the first half.

People fill old newspaper boxes with movies and call it “Free Blockbuster.”

People fill old newspaper boxes with movies and call it “Free Blockbuster.”

Blockbuster – the iconic and nostalgic rental film franchise – is making a comeback of sorts. The reason for this is a movement called Free Blockbuster, which offers films for free through the community and not through a store.

In Bend, Oregon, there is only one actual Blockbuster store left, where people can walk to a brick-and-mortar store to get their weekend entertainment and snacks — similar to the pilgrimage that millions often made on Fridays in decades past.

The ritual ended for most with the near extinction of Blockbuster stores and other movie rental franchises (Blockbuster Company filed for bankruptcy in 2010) as they were replaced by home streaming.

Brian Morrison, a former Blockbuster employee and later film and television producer, had an inkling that people might still want to watch DVD and VHS tapes. Additionally, there were still many physical copies of films in the world that he wanted to prevent from ending up in landfills.

Fox News Channel dominates CNN and MSNBC in historic third quarter news cycle as The Five makes history

During the historic third-quarter 2024 news cycle, Americans turned to Fox News Channel in droves for information and analysis.

In the third quarter of 2024, President Biden ended his re-election bid, Vice President Kamala Harris emerged as the Democratic nominee, and Senator JD Vance and Governor Yim Walz were named candidates for their party’s nomination, both in the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention, and two assassination attempts against former President Trump.

Along the way, Fox News had the second-highest third quarter in history, surpassing ABC and CBS and all cable networks in total viewership.

“The Five” became the first non-primetime program in cable news history to be the most-watched program for 12 consecutive quarters.

Fox News averaged 1.6 million daily viewers at the end of the third quarter, making it the only basic cable television program to reach the one million viewer plateau. MSNBC came in second with an average of 889,000, followed by CNN, ESPN and USA. It was the 14th consecutive quarter that Fox News finished with the largest daily audience on all of cable.

Fox News reached an average of 2.7 million viewers between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., putting it in first place among cable channels by a wide margin. MSNBC ranked second with an average primetime audience of 1.5 million viewers, followed by ESPN with an average of 1.2 million viewers. CNN failed to break the one million viewer mark, finishing in fourth place with an average prime-time audience of 924,000.

Fox News has been the most-watched cable news channel for an impressive 91 consecutive quarters, dating back to the first quarter of 2002. FNC also saw the strongest growth in cable news compared to the third quarter of 2023 and retained the largest share of the cable news audience with 52% of total day viewers and 53 % in prime time.
