Jhon Duran and Unai Emery stun Bayern and put Aston Villa on the euphoric path to Champions League norms

Jhon Duran and Unai Emery stun Bayern and put Aston Villa on the euphoric path to Champions League norms

Unai Emery wants to make nights like this the norm for Aston Villa and if anyone can do it, it’s him. But that was anything but normal. Jhon Duran, you beauty.

When asked by the Aston Villa fans at kick-off, Bayern Munich provided a convincing answer in the first 15 minutes. Who the hell are we? Your team can’t get the ball.

All 20 outfield players were in Villa’s half, with Joshua Kimmich dictating play from midfield while the players in front of him swapped positions in a fluid Vincent Kompany system that emphasized the third man and counter-pressing.

The Kompany side are now a team that lives up to the quality within their ranks, as evidenced by the fact that they scored nine goals on matchday one of the Champions League and have scored 30 goals in the seven games so far this season. Make no mistake – despite this result – after a poor season, Bayern Munich is a force to be reckoned with again; a much better site than the one who knocked the struggling Arsenal FC out of the competition six months ago.

Michael Olise forced a stunning save from Emiliano Martinez with a shot seemingly destined for the top corner, Serge Gnabry fired a shot wide of goal after a particularly good move from front to back as he passed the ball to Harry Kane should have equalized and it felt like Bayern would eventually break through the Villa defense, stubborn as they were.

But Villa didn’t need much ball to show they belonged back in Europe’s showpiece competition, playing in a repeat of the final they won 42 years ago.

And while 1982 hero Peter Withe watched from the stands, it was Aston Villa’s current striker who troubled Bayern on Wednesday. Ollie Watkins won all five duels in the first half, most of them against Dayot Upamecano, who was often left alone one on one with a man you really don’t want to be alone with.

The centre-back could easily have been shown a red card for being the last man to bring down Watkins in the 15th minute – a challenge which the referee inexplicably turned down – and he certainly should have had no further role after that he had been cautioned for a very similar challenge seven minutes later.

“They only had to get the pass right once,” the commentary said. Unai Emery will argue that they did – twice – and that they should have reaped the reward they deserved by playing most of the game with an extra man. Turns out they didn’t need the advantage. Not when they have Super Jhon Duran.

Duran has scored six goals in less than 300 minutes of play this season, five of which secured his team victory; that was another beauty.

Pau Torres – who had a lovely goal ruled out for offside midway through the first half and was absolutely brilliant both in and out of the ball – played a precise 50-yard pass to split the Bayern defense and after a short one Looking over his shoulder to see that Manuel Neuer was doing his “I’m a frustrated midfielder” act, Duran lifted the ball over the goalkeeper in a moment that combined pure joy and a sense of inevitability, because that’s exactly what this extraordinary one does young footballers.

It got us thinking: Do Villa have the second and third best strikers in the Premier League? The debate will perhaps take place another time and there will undoubtedly be further questions about how Emery can get both of them into his team.

Not that we mere mortals should question what the Spaniard is doing. After earning a two-legged win over Bayern with Villarreal just over two years ago, he beat them again with another underdog who had his back to the wall for most of the game but provided the decisive moment.

Villarreal were eliminated in the semi-finals by Liverpool this season, and while we’re not exactly thrilled that Villa can achieve that feat in their first taste of top European football in over four decades under Emery, Da Big Jhon Duran is can score a guaranteed goal from the bench in every game he plays, Villa will want to get a good result against whatever team they face.

“My idea is to try to do something natural,” Unai Emery said in his pre-match press conference, referring to the opinion of all Villa fans that it was “very bad” that the club was not in the Champions League/European Cup since 1983, aiming to make a night of emotion the norm for everyone associated with Villa.

This was anything but normal. It was special; A milestone in the incredible rise of a football club that could soon see a 1-0 win against the six-time European champions as an everyday occurrence. However, not yet. For now, euphoria is not only allowed, but expected.

Fiona McDonald: It’s a knockout, Wombat star dies after ‘excruciating’ battle with motor neurone disease

Beloved Australian television star Fiona McDonald has died after a painful battle with motor neurone disease. She was 67.

The sad news was announced in a farewell note she wrote herself, but which was posted on social media by her sister Kylie following her death.

McDonald wrote that while she never wanted to die, “the thought of leaving my tortured body was a relief.”

McDonald was a constant presence on Australian television throughout the 1980s, hosting the popular game show It’s a Knock Out and appearing on the children’s television show Wombat alongside another famous Australian character, Aggro.

Her sister Jacki McDonald was a buddy of Daryl Somers on Hey Hey It’s Saturday.

In her message, McDonald wrote: “Farewell my friends. My sister Kylie is posting this because I left the building – hopefully I’m looking down from a cloud.

“A very tough few months came to an end last night. It was very peaceful, the boys and Kylie stayed with me to say goodbye.”

McDonald, who leaves behind sons Ryan and Rafe, was diagnosed with MND in 2021.

MND affects the nerves, causing them to degenerate and die, and causing the muscles to become progressively weaker.

Ultimately, the disease leads to paralysis and death.

Last year, McDonald and her sister took a tour of Australia called “It’s A Big Lap” to raise funds for research into the disease.

The GoFundMe campaign for the trip raised nearly $230,000.

“The last few months have been tough. I was unable to swallow normal food, and the tube feeding that was supposed to feed me wasn’t working because my gut couldn’t tolerate any of the different brands of protein drinks. It went straight in and out,” McDonald wrote in her farewell post.

“I was slowly starving and becoming weaker and weaker. I also developed terrible back pain because my muscles didn’t support my body.

“The dark humor that had served me well in the first few years of this journey turned into despair. After much consideration, I made the decision to stop all medical support and ultimately go to hospital for end-of-life palliative care. When you love life as much as I do, it takes a lot of courage to make decisions that lead to parting. “So let’s not call it goodbye because I hope to see you again on the other side. Until then: “May the wind always be at your back, May the sun shine warmly on your face, May the rain fall gently on your fields, until we meet again, And may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.” Carry your love and your laughter with me and hope you remember mine.”

MrBeast is already planning his death with post-mortem YouTube videos

MrBeast is already planning his death with post-mortem YouTube videos

Death may not be the end, at least not for MrBeast. The YouTube sensation is already planning his death, revealing that a series of videos have already been recorded to keep the channel alive long after his “coffin”.

Recent controversies aside, MrBeast is now the largest content creator in the world. As the world’s leading YouTuber, his brand has become a content machine, churning out one viral hit after another, racking up hundreds of millions of views every month.

Even as it expands into a $100 million blockbuster Amazon game show, beset by legal troubles to boot, MrBeast’s popularity continues to grow. But what would happen if Jimmy Donaldson, the face of it all, suddenly met his end? Even though it’s a dark topic, the YouTuber is already preparing for exactly this situation.

Discussing his death on Impaulsive alongside new brand Lunchly co-creators KSI and Logan Paul, MrBeast was embroiled in drama again and revealed he has plans in case he dies soon.

MrBeast has already prepared at least 15 months of content to be released after his death.

On the subject of Nikocado Avocado’s shocking revelation that he had filmed two years in advance before losing hundreds of pounds, the trio admitted their plan was genius. The plans so far in advance led the Prime Hydration founders to believe that MrBeast certainly had some similar tricks up his sleeve, and they were right.

“I have a feeling you would,” KSI joked. “Well, I did…” MrBeast confirmed before being interrupted.

“That’s what I did when I die,” he replied. “I pre-filmed a lot of videos so that my channel can continue to be uploaded.”

15 videos is the current estimate, all recorded and ready for release by his team after his death. However, he teased that they were filmed when he was much younger and that they could definitely use being filmed again before release.

“Certain people at my company know where to find these videos on my old computer. Just upload these once a month to make it look like I’m still alive. These are pretty rubbish videos. One of them is me sitting at a table and opening old fan mail.”

“In the videos I made jokes like, ‘I’m probably in a coffin right now chilling, don’t feel sorry for me, I’m dead.’

MrBeast discusses his death below at 9:35 p.m.

As a joke for his community, he joked that the first of these post-death videos would go live, titled “My Last Video.” There will be another surprise content a month later and so on until they are all used up.

How Trump credits an immigration map with saving his life – and what’s missing from the map

How Trump credits an immigration map with saving his life – and what’s missing from the map

The graphic helps the Republican presidential candidate connect an iconic moment from his 2024 campaign to his most important issue since entering politics. It’s also representative of how Trump’s campaign has approached immigration, vocally advocating for tougher border measures while deleting or misrepresenting key parts of his record.

Here are more details about the chart and how Trump used it in the campaign.

A senator gave Trump the card on his plane

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., said he was aboard Trump’s plane in April heading from an Easter family vacation in Florida to campaign events in the Midwest. During the flight, Johnson showed Trump the graphic, which uses US Border Patrol statistics to show a dramatic increase in encounters with migrants at the southern border.

Trump asked Johnson to send it to his communications team, who changed the title and description and edited some of the notes to begin rolling it out that same day at an event with law enforcement officials in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At that event, Trump referred to people who are in the United States illegally and suspected of committing crimes as “animals.”

“It’s obvious in this chart what the Biden administration has done. “It shows what Trump struggled with and how he dealt with it successfully,” Johnson said in an interview. “And then it just shows the explosion of illegal immigration under President Biden and Vice President (Kamala) Harris.”

Border crossings reached record highs during the Biden administration but have declined since Biden issued an executive order restricting asylum applications earlier this year.

The Harris campaign accuses Trump of pressuring congressional Republicans not to support a bipartisan border security package that Democrats say would have helped fix a broken immigration system.

The graphic shows that border crossings reached record highs

The Border Patrol has recorded about 7.1 million apprehensions of people entering illegally from Mexico since the start of the Biden administration through July, but many of those apprehensions were of repeat offenders. Trump regularly criticizes Biden and Harris for allowing record-breaking numbers, often claiming without evidence that the number is above 30 million.

The graphic lists policies introduced by Trump such as “Remain in Mexico,” a program that keeps asylum seekers waiting south of the border and that Biden halted when he took office. The guidelines are intended to show that Trump crashed border crossings during his time in office.

The graphic’s description states: “Biden is seeing a world record number of illegal immigrants, many of them from prisons and mental institutions,” a claim Trump typically makes at rallies despite there being no evidence that countries are overlooking their criminals or the mentally ill send the border.

The table does not take family separation into account

The graphic incorrectly identifies the month in which Trump left office, marking it as if it had occurred in the spring of 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic led to travel restrictions and arrivals fell significantly. Before the pandemic, the Trump administration was also struggling to handle the large influx of migrants.

U.S. Rep. Robert Garcia, a California Democrat, showed the graphic at a recent congressional hearing to point out this error.

“It’s important to note and point out how wrong this actually is,” he said, noting that border encounters increased in the months that followed and during Trump’s time in office.

The graphic also ignores perhaps Trump’s most controversial immigration policy. Between 2017 and 2018, border officials separated children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. A policy that was condemned worldwide as inhumane and that Trump himself stopped under pressure from his own party.

Trump rarely talks about family separation. Last weekend, Trump claimed he didn’t understand what Harris meant when she said he was responsible for taking the children away from their parents.

The former president has pledged to carry out the largest mass deportation possible, prioritizing migrants with criminal records. Trump said he could count on like-minded governors to support the National Guard in carrying out deportations.

Trump shows the diagram frequently

The diagram was shown on numerous screens on stage during his speech at the Republican National Convention less than a week after the Butler rally.

“The last time I put the chart up, I never really got a chance to look at it,” he said. “But without this card I wouldn’t be here today.”

Trump also took the map with him on his recent border visit to Arizona, showing it on a piece of paper as he spoke from a podium below a desert hill. Since the attack, he has used it more and more often and often tells how it saved his life.

Johnson says he’s glad to have played “a small role.”

“Either the hand of God or just a lucky coincidence is the reason he escaped assassination, quite honestly,” he said. “That’s just the historical fact now.”

He wouldn’t say whether Trump has mentioned anything about the map to him since the assassination. “These are private conversations,” he said.

You deserve to know where your tax dollars are going

You deserve to know where your tax dollars are going

Open the Books was founded in 2011 on a simple principle: Taxpayers deserve to know where their money is going and what it is being spent on.

Americans pay “property taxes to fund local education. “So don’t you want to know where this money is going?” asks Matthew Tyrmand, deputy director of the Florida-based nonprofit Open the Books.

Open the Books works at the federal, state and local levels and submits thousands of Freedom of Information Act requests each year to obtain and publish records of government spending.

Open the Books publishes a “checkbook” for each U.S. state, detailing how much the state spends annually and on what.

Tyrmand joins The Daily Signal Podcast as part of this week’s Money and Transparency series. He shares the history of Open the Books and takes time to honor the organization’s founder, Adam Andrzejewski, who passed away unexpectedly in August.

Family mourns deadly Merced County kidnapping of four people two years later

Family mourns deadly Merced County kidnapping of four people two years later

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — A Merced County family is still grieving the loss of their loved ones as Thursday marks two years since Aroohi Dheri, Jasdeep Singh, Jasleen Kaur and Amandeep Singh died in a frightening kidnapping at the hands of Jesus Salgado, according to prosecutors.

“He pulled out his gun and walked through that door that everyone saw,” family member Sukhdeep Dheri told Action News.

Surveillance cameras captured the tragedy as it unfolded outside the family business. Now the family is showing the inside to the public for the first time.

“There were two desks here, office tables,” Dheri said. “Both Jasdeep and Amandeep, they were sitting here. And Jasleen, she did some dishes in the sink.”

Action News saw the exact location where the victims were working on the morning of October 3, 2022. It was a happy time in her life, family members say. They had opened the new truck yard a week earlier.

Salgado was a former employee.

“He kidnapped her at gunpoint and took her away from here,” said Amandeep Singh’s wife Jaspreet Kaur.

Surveillance video captured what happened next. It appears to show Salgado leading Jasdeep and Amandeep through the back door with their hands tied.

“That’s the door they went through,” Dheri said. “This is the door he took from them.”

According to investigators, Salgado took the family of four to an almond orchard near Dos Palos and killed them. Salgado pleaded not guilty to four counts of murder and other charges.

“We’re not giving up,” Kaur said. “We won’t stop. We demand justice.”

Court records show Salgado is next due in court for a hearing on Oct. 14.

A judge has already sentenced his brother Alberto Salgado to three years and eight months in prison for aiding and abetting the crime.
