Atlanta Braves ace Max Fried suffers a historic loss in the NL Wild Card Series

Atlanta Braves ace Max Fried suffers a historic loss in the NL Wild Card Series

The Atlanta Braves were eliminated from the MLB postseason on Wednesday night and Max Fried may have made his final appearance for the club.

The 30-year-old All-Star didn’t exactly have a good figure either.

Fried ran into trouble early in Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series against the San Diego Padres, giving up a leadoff single to Luis Arraez. Fernando Tatis Jr. was next and also received credit for a single after sending a line drive right off Fried’s hip.

After a brief injury delay, Fried stayed in the game and fought his way out of a bases-loaded jam without allowing any damage. He wouldn’t be so lucky in the second.

Fried retired the first two batters of the frame but then gave up six straight hits. This two-out rally earned the Padres a place in the history books while also making it a 5-1 ball game.

Manager Brian Snitker cut Fried off shortly after that collapse and his night was cut short. He allowed five earned runs and eight hits in just 2.0 innings.

As Underdog Fantasy’s Justin Havens noted, Fried is the first Braves pitcher to allow at least five runs and eight hits in a playoff start of 2.0 or fewer innings since Kevin Milwood in Game 2 of the 1999 World Series.

However, Milwood faced three batters in the third inning that night, and one of the five runs he allowed was unearned. Fried is the only pitcher in franchise history to allow more than five earned runs and more than eight hits in the first two innings of a postseason game.

According to StatMuse, there have been 25 instances of a Braves starting pitcher giving up at least five earned runs in a playoff start. Atlanta is now 3-22 in those games after losing 5-4 on Wednesday.

Fried went 11-10 with a 3.25 ERA, 1.164 WHIP and 3.5 WAR in 29 starts in 2024, leading the league with two complete games and a shutout. The three-time Gold Glove winner and 2022 NL Cy Young runner-up also made his second All-Star appearance this summer.

The left-hander played on an expiring contract this season, so he is expected to move on a free transfer in a month. By all accounts, Fried is likely to be one of the most sought-after starting players on the market, and it remains to be seen whether the Braves can keep him.

While Fried and the Braves set their sights on the offseason, the Padres will move on to the NLDS and face the Los Angeles Dodgers.

When will you see fall leaves where you live? There’s a card for that

When will you see fall leaves where you live? There’s a card for that

If you’ve ever wondered when is the best time to see the leaves turn beautiful shades of yellow, orange and red, there’s now a map to show you.

A map from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation shows people the status of fall foliage in the state.

The map is updated weekly and informs users about the status of fall colors in a specific region using a color-coded legend.

The legend ranges from light blue, meaning “no change in foliage,” to maroon, meaning “foliage past the peak.”

According to the map, on October 3, Boston’s leaves are yellowish or in the middle of the leaves. It’s not until October 27th that the city’s leaves reach their peak. The majority of leaves across the state will also not reach their peak by then.

But in some areas in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden counties, leaves are already starting to appear near the top of the foliage.

These areas of western Massachusetts are expected to peak late next week, according to the map’s data.

When most of the commonwealth reaches the peak of its foliage, some parts of Western Massachusetts will already have leaves that have reached their peak.

But don’t wait to go looking for leaves. The fall foliage season will be over on November 3rd.

And the aim of the noise is to use the frustration of Sunday’s defeat to Tottenham as motivation to beat FC Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night.

“If we don’t win, we’ll be very disappointed as always,” I said at the press conference.

“Of course we are not happy with ourselves, especially when you see a game like Sunday, after all we play for so long with 10 players and after the cancellation there is a red card.”

“It frustrates us because it takes a long time to play with 10 players and we won’t always play to our advantage. “That’s crazy, we don’t get any motivation and we have to deal with the next game.”

Meanwhile, Porto coach Vitor Bruno wants to watch out for the threat from Manchester United.

Even if Erik ten Hag page dey enta Portugal like “pipo wey dem tie rope for dia necks”.

Manchester United will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the Europa League after Tottenham defeated Wotowoto 3-0 at home in the Premier League game.

But Bruno says that as a player I shouldn’t despise any of his opponents.

“I haven’t often heard of tying the rope for necks,” said Bruno when asked about Manchester United’s form.

“But no, no, we’re just looking at our goal of getting to the next level.

“We always see them as a threat and not a good reason to take them on.

“We just have to be ourselves, we look at them with respect, with a lot of respect, with a lot of individuals.”

“I know you want to talk about the last game, but we have to see that this isn’t just the last game.”

Man Utd midfielder Mason Mount is not following the team trip after suffering a knock against Tottenham, but defender Harry Maguire cannot play at the weekend.

Midfielder Fabio Vieira, who will join Porto from Arsenal on a season-long loan in August, is also fit for the game.

According to UEFA, Porto and Manchester United do not meet six times.

Porto has won once in a total of six times, Manchester United has won twice and drawn three times.

Porto scores five goals in all slide matches, while Manchester United scores nine goals.

In their first meeting of the 1996/1997 season, Manchester United beat Old Trafford Porto 4-0 in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League.

The last time they met was in the same quarter-final stage of the Champions League in the 2008/2009 season.

In that game, Porto lost 0-1 to Manchester United.

“Law & Order” star Mehcad Brooks on working in New York – and with “legend” Mariska Hargitay

“Law & Order” star Mehcad Brooks on working in New York – and with “legend” Mariska Hargitay

He is involved in the case.

Mehcad Brooks, who plays Detective Jalen Shaw on Law & Order, begins his third season on the show as Season 24 premieres on Thursday. October 3rd at 8pm on NBC.

Brooks joined the cast in season 22 when the series returned after its 12-year hiatus.

“I had this childlike reaction,” Brooks, 43, told The Post about his first entry into the show.

“I just fell down a little bit, laid on my back, put my legs up like a kid and did this giddy laugh.”

“It was great, it was a show that I grew up with myself. It was always on in the house,” he added. “It felt like a staple of our home. When I got the call that I would be one of the lead investigators, it was a dream come true.”

Detective Jalen Shaw has solved some difficult cases – in season 23, he saved a man about to jump off a bridge. The man fatally shot a doctor, sparking a case that raised questions about whether racial trauma stress could be used as a defense for murder.

Jalen Shaw initially worked with Frank Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan), but now his partner is Detective Vincent Riley (Reid Scott, “Veep”).

“I draw inspiration from my father, a civil rights attorney who advocates for restorative justice. I think Jalen has that in his DNA,” said Brooks, who is also known for “True Blood” and will join the cast of the “Sex and the City” spinoff “And Just Like That…” in Season 3.

He continued: “I see Jalen as this other version of me. I believe in the multiverse. I think this is New York 2. Jalen lives in New York 2, and I could easily be Jalen if I lived in New York 2.”

Brooks experienced many “New York moments” every day during filming.

“Whether it’s a taxi driver honking during a take and saying, ‘I love you!’ and I’m like, “Thanks, man – that was a lot of money, you just blew that!” Or the fact that we’re in so many different communities in New York and we go into a coffee shop and the barista looks at us and says “How can I help you?” Then they see the badge and do a double-take like, “Wait, wait.” And then they’re in New York 2 for a second. And they kind of freak out.”

Brooks, who is also known for “Mortal Kombat,” said that “Law & Order” Season 24 adapts to the current TV landscape.

“This is the best season,” he explained.

“We keep the connective tissue, the DNA of the show. You will recognize it as “Law & Order.” But it also feels updated and, if I may say so, enhanced. The television landscape has changed and we can benefit from that. Because it used to be enough if people were interested in crime and wanted to know something about crime. Now people want to know who is solving the crime, how much is it costing them, why do they care, what happened in their past and what is their family like?”

He pointed out that favoring “more character-based narratives” could “benefit” the show.

“They put all these people in the control room of this aircraft carrier called Law & Order and it’s our responsibility to turn it 1 degree north. “It keeps the show relevant,” he explained.

On who he works with on the show, Brooks said: “The thing is, it’s so interesting because you see Mariska [Hargitay] And you don’t think of “vintage cars”, but rather “all-timers”. All Timer Legends. She brings this youthful exuberance to every moment she’s in and this wonder, this joy. I achieved a lot just by appearing in scenes with her. She was just a great sounding board from which to reflect things.”

Aside from working with him occasionally, Hargitay “isn’t really around the other guys who have been around a long time.”

“But we’re finding our own way,” he told the Post. “We have very big shoes to fill, but we step into them.”

Dolphins-Patriots Preview – CBSSports.com

Dolphins-Patriots Preview – CBSSports.com

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) It could have been a clash of exciting young quarterbacks, with Tua Tagovailoa and Drake Maye taking the field for the Dolphins and Patriots.

Instead we get Tyler Huntley and Jacoby Brissett.

The two once-proud franchises and longtime AFC East rivals are stumbling in Week 5 with their best quarterbacks on the sidelines: Tagovailoa on injured reserve recovering from a concussion and Maye — the No. 3 overall draft pick — waiting still confident in being behind the Patriots offensive line.

“We have to keep playing ball no matter what, no matter who the quarterback is,” said Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill, who caught four different passes for Miami this season.

“(Huntley) has a chance to understand the system and how the guys play now,” Hill said. “It’s all connected, man. Once he’s had a chance to figure it all out, it’ll be smooth sailing back there.”

Although not much was expected of the Patriots (1-3) this year as they begin their rebuild after the dynasty of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, Miami (1-3) was coming off an 11-win season and two consecutive playoff appearances Apparitions.

But the Dolphins’ chances fell when Tagovailoa was injured in Week 2 and was replaced first by Skylar Thompson, then by Tim Boyle and now by Huntley, who threw for 98 yards in Monday’s 31-12 loss to Tennessee – Miami’s third loss in a row.

Coach Mike McDaniel expressed confidence in Huntley, who started nine games in four seasons with the Ravens before being released from Baltimore’s practice squad when Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in Week 2.

“I don’t want to think that the best execution of the entire offense is the first week you run the offense,” the coach said. “He’s a professional and there were a lot of things that were very impressive when you put into context the schedule, the language and the way he’s able to do things that our guys are used to sets, and then there is a lot of room for growth and getting to know him.”

Patriots coach Jerod Mayo said he is also sticking with Brissett, who has averaged fewer than 135 yards per game. Maye came into cleanup in Week 3, completing 4 of 8 passes for 22 yards.

“Jacoby is our starter,” Mayo said. “He’s our starting quarterback this week.”

Mayo said he will consider a change at running back — if only to reinforce the message that Rhamondre Stevenson’s four fumbles in four games are unacceptable.

“Look, we can’t preach that ball security equals job security and still have him out there most of the time,” Mayo said. “I think it sends a stronger message to the players that there are certain things we just can’t do to win, especially with the team we have today.”

Stevenson was a reliable defender for the Patriots in his first three years, rushing for more than 1,000 yards in 2022 and earning a four-year, $36 million extension this offseason. He ran for 201 yards and two touchdowns in the first two games, trying to take on an even bigger role in the face of New England’s struggling passing offense.

But he has fumbled in every game this season. (The Patriots brought back two of them.) Mayo said moving Antonio Gibson, who ran for 96 yards on 11 carries in Week 2, into the starting lineup is “definitely being considered.”

McDaniel also said he would hold players accountable, especially as penalties and dropped passes take a toll on the offense. Miami had 10 penalties for 98 yards against the Titans last week.

“Most teams want to be part of the solution, not the problem,” McDaniel said. “This is not good football. You can’t go backwards before a game starts. You can’t turn the ball over.”

With starting pass rusher Jaelan Phillips sidelined this season with a partially torn ACL, the Dolphins need help from other players.

The Dolphins have veterans Emmanuel Ogbah and Quinton Bell, and they will also have to rely on rookies Chop Robinson and Mo Kamara, while Bradley Chubb is still nursing a torn ACL he suffered in Week 17 last season.

“They can do a lot of work together that they are absolutely prepared for,” McDaniel said. “There was a tremendous amount of reps gained in training camp to learn from and grow from, and the most important thing is not to try to be Jaelan Phillips.”

The Patriots said center David Andrews, an offensive captain and one of the longest-tenured players on the roster, will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.

Spotify adds a new offline backup feature for premium users

Spotify adds a new offline backup feature for premium users

Spotify Premium users no longer have to suffer in silence when they are offline and forget to download songs or playlists in advance. The streaming music company says it is adding an offline backup feature that will automatically display a playlist of available songs that can be played offline, even if they were not manually downloaded.

Spotify says the feature will be available in iOS and Android apps starting this week and will work with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The company noted that the feature could be useful for those who board a flight without an internet connection and realize they haven’t downloaded music in advance.

A Spotify representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Spotify says the playlist is generated from songs already in the user’s data cache, so it presumably wouldn’t take up any additional storage space on a mobile device. The playlist is displayed when a user is offline and can be filtered and sorted by artist, mood and genre. The offline backup playlist changes over time and can be added to the user’s library for easy access.

While the offline backup playlist didn’t yet appear in the Spotify Home feed on my iOS device, there was an option enabled by default under Storage in the Offline Listening settings. Users have the option to remove downloads or clear their cache, but this could disrupt the playlist. Spotify recommends listening to at least five songs recently for offline listening to work.

Spotify didn’t say in its announcement how many tracks Premium subscribers can expect to see in their offline backup playlist.
