Golf’s “hand rule” is in full bloom, friends. Here’s what that means

Golf’s “hand rule” is in full bloom, friends. Here’s what that means

Nick Piastowski

Should you play golf this fall, and should you drift left, right, long, or short, and should your ball find cover under fallen leaves, and should you fail to find it even though you know it for sure? has To be sure, there is potential hope. In other words…

Leave Your worries are behind you.

Or!

Make it look like a tree…and leave.

(Sorry. Please stay here. Please don’t click away. It’s late afternoon and that’s all the author has to say.)

The point is that, if a golf course or tournament committee is understanding, players can obtain relief (re-leaf?) under the scenario presented in paragraph 1 via Model Local Rule F-14 – commonly referred to as “Leaf Rule” is known.” You may have heard of it. It might be new for you. So here it is in its entirety, either as a refresher or as a lifeline of sorts:

“During the game [specify hole number]any soil with temporary accumulations of [identify types of loose impediments ] in the general area or in a bunker shall be treated as ground under repair from which free relief is permitted in accordance with Rule 16.1.”

This is also stated in the USGA online rules under “Purpose:”

“At certain times of the year it may be difficult for a player to find or play their ball due to piles of loose obstacles such as leaves, seeds or acorns. A Committee may decide to treat such piles of loose natural hazards in the general area or in a bunker as ground under repair from which free relief is possible in accordance with Rule 16.1.

“This local rule may not be applied to penalty areas, as no relief is possible in the event of abnormal track conditions in penalty areas.

“The local rule should be limited to those holes where problems arise from such loose natural hazards and should be withdrawn as soon as conditions permit.”

In short, the rule essentially means that you get a free drop if you can’t find your ball, you’re sure it’s in the court, and it could be under a pile of leaves, for example. And if the rule is not in force? If you don’t find your ball within three minutes or less, it is considered lost – and you must hit again and take a penalty stroke.

In particular, there are a few other things to consider for fall, and we’ll discuss some of them with a quick question and answer session.

Cameron Young of the United States plays a shot with his left hand from under a tree on the 6th during the final round of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club on January 21, 2024 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Rules Type: If you are right-handed, is it legal to carry a left-handed racket?

Can you move leaves?

Yes, and you can do this anywhere on the golf course, including in a bunker or penalty area – but if your ball moves while doing so, it is a one-stroke penalty and you must replace the ball (unless it moves when putting). Green; then you can simply put the ball back and continue playing without penalty).

Do ventilation holes bring you relief?

No – unless the model location rule E-4 is in play. This rule states: “If a player’s ball is in or touches a ventilation hole: (a) Ball in the general area.” The player may take relief under Rule 16.1b. If the ball comes to rest in another vent, the player may take relief again in accordance with this local rule. (b) Ball on the putting green. The player may claim relief under Rule 16.1d. However, there is no interference if the vent only interferes with the player’s posture or range of intended swing or, on the putting green, the player’s line of play.”

Get relief on fall maintenance projects?

Yes. According to a story written by Danny Vohden for the USGA’s website, “any holes or trenches created by maintenance personnel on projects of this type are considered ‘ground in repair’ and you are entitled to free relief.”

Is there a right way to dress?

Yes. According to GOLF Top 100 Instructor Sarah Stone, it’s important to layer without feeling bulky—and never forget the importance of keeping your feet dry.

“Put on multiple layers of clothing, but try to use thinner performance pieces that aren’t too bulky in the swing,” Stone told GOLF’s Nick Dimengo last year. “Perhaps choosing a vest to wear over the top will also make movement easier.

“I also like to pack a pair of dry socks in a ziplock bag just in case it rains. Wet feet are the worst.”

Spartan Hockey opens Friday with high expectations

Spartan Hockey opens Friday with high expectations

It may not feel like it outside, but hockey season is just days away. After a very successful 23/24 season that put the Spartans back on the map, they realize they have high expectations and are no longer the hunter but the hunted.

This season will be a special one. It’s Munn’s 50th anniversary and the Spartans enter the season ranked No. 4 and the favorites to win the Big Ten. Coach Nightingale is entering his third season and wants to live up to expectations and the sold-out season. Let’s take a look at the five keys to the season we all hope ends with a national title.

NINE NEW PLAYERS

The Spartans start this season with nine new players on the roster, including six newcomers and three transfers. MSU is full of players who have already been selected to NHL teams. The big loss is obviously Levshunov, who is heading to the Blackhawks. Last year’s team played really well together and the team chemistry was very good. Adding 9 freshmen to the mix will take some getting used to, and if the Spartans can recreate the same chemistry with last year’s experience, things will definitely be exciting in East Lansing. While the Spartans return more than 60% of their scoring opportunities on offense, it will be interesting to see what defensive pairings replace last year’s performance from Levshunov and Nienhuis.

GOALKEEPING

Trey Augustine is back and has a lot on his shoulders. The future Red Wing is a preseason All-BIG first-team selection. Augustine has the potential to be an absolute wall and he showed some of that in the tournament last year. MSU gets the defensemen to advance the puck and create scoring opportunities for the offense, which can lead to Augustine being left behind in the net. If he can outperform the competition this year, maintain his growth and stay healthy, he will be one of the main reasons we keep the banner flying next year.

HEADS DOWN

On media day there was a constant conversation between Nightingale and the players about keeping their heads down and focusing. They are all aware of the expectations and pressure and seem determined not to let it get them down or distracted. There was also a lot of talk about how last season was good, but not good enough. The need to continue the trend and finish the job. I like the sounds of all this because it sounds like a team ready to do something special. The players are excited to get this season rolling and so are the fans. We’ll all keep our heads down and focus on the Frozen Four.

Power play and penalty shootout

Last year, MSU was very good in power play scoring and ranked fifth. To win the title, the Spartans will need to maintain and even improve on that performance this year. However, the biggest need for improvement is in the penalty shootout. The Spartans ranked 31st in Division 1 statistics in kills. This is an absolute must when improving. They need to get better at turning the puck over on the kill and being smarter about it. A shorty is always nice, but not always worth the risk.

THE LITTLE STUFF

The Spartans committed a ton of penalties last season, and that of course leads to our previous discussion about the penalty kill. They need to play cleaner hockey and take advantage of the offense’s strengths to avoid playing from the back and putting unnecessary pressure on Augustine. The Spartans also need to get better at faceoff. They had a very low win rate and if they get better at winning faceoffs it will help improve the penalty kill and increase power play opportunities.

The Spartans begin the season on April 4th/5th. October against Lake Superior State, followed by second-place Boston College to finish the season on 11/12. October to open at home. It will be nice to see our guys take care of business this weekend and iron out a few issues before a big test on the second weekend. I’ve been a huge MSU hockey fan and season ticket holder for the four years I’ve been there, and even when I was in LA, I can remember the bar I was at when they won their last title . I’m looking forward to bringing some hockey content to the site this season. So please comment and let me know what you would like to see. Let’s drop the puck and a new banner to Munn in Year 50! Go Green!

Pixel 9a leaks, Thunderbirds Android beta, Google Play vs. F-Droid

Pixel 9a leaks, Thunderbirds Android beta, Google Play vs. F-Droid

Let’s take a look back at this week’s news and headlines in the Android world, including the latest Galaxy S25 Ultra specs, Pixel 9a design leaks, the very thin Honor Magic V3, when to consider the Pixel 9 Pro Fold , the importance of the F-Droid Store, Thunderbrid’s Android beta, and listening to the music of San Francisco.

Android Circuit would like to remind you of some of the many Android-related discussions over the last seven days. You can also read my weekly Apple news roundup here on Forbes.

The place for AI in the Galaxy S25 Ultra

Samsung’s Galaxy s25 Ultra is expected to launch in January 2025 alongside the second generation of Galaxy AI software. The latter suggests that the former will ship with 16GB of RAM, up from 12GB last year on the S24 models:

“There is a good case to be made that all available variants of the Galaxy S25 Ultra have 16GB of RAM, which comes from Google’s latest Pixel 9 Pro models. Nearly 4GB of RAM in each of these models is reserved for Google AI. This was introduced alongside Google’s advances in generative AI and guarantees faster operation as part of the memory is reserved for AI.”

(Forbes).

The Pixel 9a’s flatter design debuts

The Pixel A family of phones takes on the role of the “value for money” model of the range and typically launches six months after the main line. That would push the potential launch of the Pixel 9a to early March, although the early launch of the Pixel 9 family could mean the 9a retains a spot near the I/O developer conference in May. Still, according to the latest leak, Google seems ready to reduce the camera bar’s impact on budget-conscious buyers:

“One of the biggest design changes this year is the camera bar. It appears to be almost flush with the back of the Pixel 9a, perhaps with a small ring around it sticking out. It looks a lot like the LG V60 ThinQ from a few years ago. It adopts the new camera layout like the Pixel 9 and sticks with an ultrawide and a wide camera. Another thing you’ll notice is the fairly large bezels, which is to be expected on a $500 phone, they’re still very noticeable.”

(Android Headlines).

Finding the thin form factor

Spending time with a phone to test it gives you time to appreciate its features, but sometimes first impressions stick in your mind. That’s true of the Honor Magic V3, the Shenzhen-based company’s latest foldable device. There’s no getting over how thin this phone is (at least until something thinner comes out in 2025):

“While the Magic V3 is described as slim. That’s an understatement. When I open the handset, the word “impossible” immediately comes to mind. That’s clearly not the case as I’m holding the phone in my hand and it’s 4.4mm thick when unfolded. Honor is pushing the limits of physical limitations, and there’s no doubt that in a few years this will be considered a chunky and heavy foldable device, but for now it has to be considered the gold standard. “

(Forbes).

Consider the Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Alongside Samsung and Honor, Google’s foldable phone for 2024 has adopted the lesson of last year’s models to create something closer to the mainstream idea of a smartphone, at least when closed. Forbes contributor Janhoi MacGregor takes a closer look inside and out for his review, pointing out the price and unique appeal:

“This is a phone for a power user, both in terms of features and price. The eye-popping $1,799 price tag and not the best display or camera tech make it difficult to recommend the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to regular smartphone buyers…Like me.” When it comes to foldable phones, it’s always recommended to consider something before buying Spending time with the P9PF, even if the store employees are annoyed with you. That would be an expensive mistake if foldable technology isn’t for you.

(Forbes).

The other app store you need

Trevor Slocum highlights the power Google has through control of the Google Play app store. He also points out that F-Droid, a popular app store for open source software, is one of the counterweights the ecosystem needs:

“F-Droid is our best chance to break the chains that the Google Play Store has bound to developers. It’s not always easy to release a previously proprietary app as open source software, and this certainly requires some effort. But it’s worth it.” Open source software allows users to review, understand, and improve the apps they use. And it empowers the original developers because the free exchange of open source software has a reinforcing effect. and potentially achieve greater strength than any single proprietary app developer ever could.”

(Rocket 9 Labs).

Thunderbrid’s Android Beta

Following Mozilla’s purchase of the K-9 email client, the Thunderbird team has worked hard to both offer an updated K-9 codebase and to populate it with the utility of the Thunderbird ecosystem:

“The Thunderbird for Android beta is here and we’re asking our community to help us test it. Beta testing helps us find critical bugs and rough edges that we can fix over the next few weeks. The more people test and ensure the beta.” “The more everything in the testing checklist works correctly, the better!”

(Github via Thunderbird Blog).

And finally…

There is a smartphone high above San Francisco. An old Android smartphone. An old smartphone with a mission (and a solar panel). Listen to the audience below, select a piece of music and add it to the playlist on the website. A musical delight? It’s a mixed bag. A statement on public surveillance? Very much so:

“Heard of ShotSpotter? Police are installing microphones across cities across the United States to detect shots that are reportedly not very accurate. That’s it, but for music. This is cultural surveillance. Nobody notices, nobody agrees. But it’s not about catching criminals. It’s about constantly capturing the mood.

The Falcons are surviving a brutal start to the season, but it doesn’t get any easier

The Falcons are surviving a brutal start to the season, but it doesn’t get any easier

The Atlanta Falcons entered Thursday Night Football at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with only one goal in mind: victory.

Atlanta has tried to silence doubters after the start of the 2024 season, with many question marks surrounding its roster and coaching staff. From a surprise draft pick to uncertainty at quarterback, the team faced skepticism from analysts and fans alike.

In Week 5 of the NFL season, the Falcons are 3-2 after a dramatic overtime win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

But despite their track record, the season didn’t go smoothly. The road ahead looks challenging and questions remain as to how this team will fare as the season progresses.

Under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Raheem Morris, the Falcons have endured a season full of hope and uncertainty. Much of this uncertainty stems from their bold decision to draft Michael Penix Jr. in the first round, even though they chose veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins with a four-year, $180 million contract. Cousins has had an up-and-down start to the season, including a poor performance against the Steelers, raising questions about the team’s offensive consistency.

However, their performance against the Buccaneers in Week 5 changed history. A thrilling 36-30 overtime win on Thursday Night Football lifted the Falcons to the top of the NFC South standings with a 2-0 record in division play. Against the Bucs, Ironically, Cousins broke Matt Ryan’s single-game passing record After throwing for 509 yards on the night, Ryan was inducted into the Falcons’ Ring of Honor.

The Falcons were more successful through the air, averaging 260.6 passing yards per game compared to their opponents’ 187.4 yards. Despite these strong passing numbers, Atlanta’s rushing game lagged, with just 96.8 yards per game compared to opponents’ 148.4 yards. This discrepancy highlights a persistent problem: The Falcons are struggling to maintain balance on offense.

Although the Falcons’ Week 5 win over the Buccaneers was crucial, it doesn’t get any easier from here.

After a favorable division game next week against the Panthers, Atlanta faces a tougher stretch of games in the future.

The games against the Seahawks, Commanders and Vikings are likely to be the biggest hurdles. Seattle has played strong defense under new head coach Mike MacDonald, while the undefeated Vikings, led by a resurgent Sam Darnold, look like one of the league’s best teams. Washington, meanwhile, was an offensive powerhouse, with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels surprising many with his performance.

The remaining schedule poses big questions for Kirk Cousins and his offensive weapons, including running back Bijan Robinson, wide receivers Drake London and Darnell Mooney, and tight end Kyle Pitts. Can Cousins continue to improve his game against tougher competition, or does Atlanta need to rethink its strategy?

On defense, the Falcons will rely heavily on stars like defensive end Grady Jarrett, cornerback AJ Terrell, safety Jessie Bates III and linebacker Matthew Judon to slow down some of the potent offenses they face. So far the defense has been solid but not spectacular, with 5 sacks, 23 tackles for loss and 3 interceptions in five games. They will need more power to keep up with their upcoming opponents.

While the Falcons are in a favorable position at the top of the NFC South right now, the road ahead doesn’t look easy. Atlanta’s inconsistencies in both the running game and defense could be exposed in the second half of the season. Ultimately, this next phase of play will reveal whether the Falcons are true contenders or just a team that benefited from an easier schedule earlier in the season.

Die besten Joker-Filmdarbietungen, bewertet

Die besten Joker-Filmdarbietungen, bewertet

Foto-Illustration: Geier; Fotos: Everett

Der Clownprinz des Verbrechens. Das Ass der Schurken. Juggalo Jesus.

Also verklagen Sie mich.

Was natürlich totales Joker-Verhalten ist.

Coronation Street videos confirm unexpected return as legend’s fate ‘sealed’ | Soap

Coronation Street videos confirm unexpected return as legend’s fate ‘sealed’ | Soap

The shocks are in abundance in another must-see week on Coronation Street (Picture: ITV)

A dramatic week awaits the denizens of the cobbles in Coronation Street, as my new spoiler videos confirm, with unexpected discoveries and a major blast from the past.

DS Swain (Vicky Myers) is called to the station by Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who tells her what he found on Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) device – and it’s horrifying to say the least.

Meanwhile, Carla Connor (Alison King) appears in court and meets the angry father of the boy she accidentally attacked a few weeks ago.

And things are about to take quite a turn as a result.

Elsewhere, Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) is devastated by the unexpected return of Jesse (John Thomson), but contrary to her theory, Jesse isn’t back to see her – he’s back to see Gail Platt (Helen Worth)!

For a first look at all this and more, I’ve put together a first look on the road for you next week in my new video clips.

Carla crosses paths with Tom, the father of the bully she had a falling out with, and a heated showdown ensues.

Tom assumes that Carla got off lightly given what she did, but Carla reminds him that his son terrorized Roy before. It becomes clear that Tom isn’t going to let this go as he sets out to follow her back to the factory.

Lisa is called to the station by Kit, who reveals that he dug up text messages from the perpetrator on Joel’s phone – to Betsy!

Lisa is at a loss, but soon has to deal with other problems as Costello, her boss, wants to speak out after Kit reports her.

Stu goes away for a while and asks Mason not to upset Yasmeen in his absence.

But their attention is soon elsewhere when Logan, Mason’s older brother, pulls up on the road, revving the engine and making it clear that he’s not to be messed with.

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday October 7th from 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
