Nets 2024-25 roster breakdown ahead of NBA training camp

TThe Post’s Brian Lewis takes a deep dive into the Nets’ 2024-25 roster ahead of the start of training camp.

Nick Claxton

Age: 25

Position: C

Size/Weight: 6-11/215

Coach Jordi Fernandez insists Claxton can be named Defensive Player of the Year. The rising young center could be the most complete player on the roster.

Noah Clowney

Age: 20

Position: PF/C

Size/Weight: 6-9/210

Even the Nets were surprised at how quickly the teenage rookie got up to speed. He has performed well in pickup games. Can he compete for a starting shot-blocking spot alongside Claxton?

Dorian Finney Smith

Age: 31

Position: PF

Size/Weight: 6-7/220

Since the veteran can opt out after the season, he is likely more valuable to a contender. Will he be moved before the deadline?

Bojan Bogdanovic

Age: 35

Position: SF

Size/Weight: 6-7/226

After the season he had to undergo several operations. Although there have been no takeover talks, the 35-year-old dead-eye shooter is still working individually and has yet to play pickup.

Cam Johnson

Age: 28

Position: SF/PF

Size/Weight: 6-8/210

A veteran on the market like Finney-Smith, except he still has three years left on his contract – and the best jumper on the squad.

Cam Thomas

Age: 22

Position: G

Size/Weight: 6-3/210

He has averaged 26.6 points since returning from injury on March 9 and 28.0 over the last 10 games. Can he compete for a scoring title?

Ben Simmons

Age: 28

Position: PG

Size/Weight: 6-10/240

His health will be the first, second and third biggest questions in camp. He’s error-free and has performed well in catch-up games, and the three-time All-Star’s availability will determine the season.

Dennis Schröder

Age: 31

Position: PG

Size/Weight: 6-1/175

As a nominal starter at this point and a proven leader in international play, will he earn the job in camp?

Ziaire Williams

Age: 23

Position: F

Size/Weight: 6-8/185

Brooklyn secured the 2021 lottery pick and a future second-rounder when the Grizzlies took a pay cut in the offseason. He reportedly looked good during summer training.

Day’Ron Sharpe

Age: 22

Position: C

Size/Weight: 6-9/265

Will he lay claim to the backup center job behind Claxton, or will it go to Clowney?

Trendon Watford

Age: 23

Position: PF

Size/Weight: 6-8/237

He showed some talent as a second playmaker last season.

Keon Johnson

Age: 22

Position: G

Size/Weight: 6-5/185

He will receive a $700,000 bonus if he is on the roster on opening night.

Shake Milton

Age: 27

Position: SG

Size/Weight: 6-5/205

Came from the Knicks in the Bridges deal. With his next two years non-guaranteed and the team retooling, his future with the Nets is in flux.

Dariq Whitehead

Age: 20

Position: F

Size/Weight: 6-6/220

Injuries essentially ruined the first-round pick’s rookie season. After a lackluster Summer League, one of the league’s youngest players will look to show he’s healthy again.

Jalen Wilson

Age: 23

Position: F

Size/Weight: 6-6/220

He was the MVP of the Las Vegas Summer League. Can the second-round pick now secure a spot in the rotation?

Yongxi “Jacky” Cui

Age: 21

Position: G

Size/Weight: 6-5/190

Nets owner Joe Tsai has said he wants a player from China, and his national team’s best young prospect just received a two-year, two-way contract.

Jaylen Martin

Age: 20

Position: G

Size/Weight: 6-6/216

Signed as a two-way player in February after playing with the Knicks (and spending part of last season in Westchester).

Amari Bailey

Age: 20

Position: G

Size/Weight: 6-4/189

The former second-round pick, who spent most of last season with G-League Greensboro, is ranked No. 10 and could compete for the final second-round spot.

Killian Hayes

Age: 23

Position: PG

Size/Weight: 6-5/195

Hayes is a solid defender and good passer, but a poor shooter. Correcting his shot could be the key to getting the Exhibit 10 invitee onto the roster, a tall order since his serve time makes him ineligible for a two-way shot.

Tyrese Martin

Age: 25

Position: G

Size/Weight: 6-6/215

An Exhibit 10 – i.e. a training camp invite – spent last season with the G-League Iowa Wolves and will have to compete with Bailey for a two-way spot.
